As I mention in the review (and above) the camera is not going to be for everybody, if you don't particularly like the camera, please don't "thumbs down" the video. It doesn't help me and make my kids really sad. It's a camera that is absolutely beautiful and a mammoth step up from the X-Pro2. Have a great day folks.
This is literally everything and more that I could have hoped for. Fuji camera developers (and Kevin), if you're reading this, thank you for building this camera. Thank you for challenging what people think can be done with a camera, and gifting people something unique.
I really like the flip-down screen and rear LCD. There has been so many who don`t like,I think it`s cool. More in camera edit features are nice, overall it`s a great camera. More of an enthusiasts camera with all the bells and whistles. Thanks for the review Kev.
As always Kevin, A straightforward, very informative & honest video. I love the Pro 2 & as a camera dealer here in N. Ireland, I have mine pre-ordered in Duratec black. So glad to see that Fuji have continued with this incredible range.
YES!! Ive been shooting Fuji Superia Xtra 400 film for the past two years and the Classic Neg NAILS it!! Take my monies!! (As an aside, I happen to be asian and have lots of friends who are asian. I think Fujifilms color palette (for their film) skews a bit cool and does much better with asian skin tones compared to kodak portra, so I actually like Superia for portraits!)
I'm just wondering what other future models you have discussed with them or even held in your hands given you had this for so long. I'm very glad these pre production models don't get leaked to rumour sites too, keeps it as it should be pre release!
Managed to pick up a great deal on a used XP3 and 2 lenses. Took a little getting used to but gives great results and I just love the classic neg simulation. Thanks for your vids always reasonable and rational.
Hey Kevin, thanks a lot for your review! I am using Leica M cameras as well as a Fuji X100F, and I really like and appreciate that Fuji has the guts to produce a camera like the X-Pro3. Since the X100F, this is the first camera outside the Leica world that tempts me. And of course thank you so much for your honest review. Yes, I know you’re a X-Photographer, but it’s obvious that you’re speaking from your own experience and that you’re not holding back things you don’t like or you think are up to a very individual choice.
I’m not convinced by the LCD implementation. Will have to try it for myself. Aesthetically, I wish they would’ve kept the crease on the front, which makes the X-Pro2 look sleeker imo. Thank you for your take.
Thanks! It's really nice to see things through the eyes of somebody who actually uses the cameras he reviews. I watched bad pre-production samples and worried about image quality but yours are perfect. What a great camera!
Since I have the XT3, I may get an X-Pro 3 just for the experience of shooting with a range finder and I really like the looks. I have an XT20 I could give to my daughter also!
Thanks Kevin, that's a really helpful review. The black and white pictures at the start of the video are especially beautiful. Can I ask what lens and especially film sim you've used here at 1:05 and 1:09 ? Thanks.
Thanks very much Kevin, great review, also, glad that you are back, we all missed you! Have you tried the back button focusing (BBF) setup in the X-Pro3? I was never very satisfied with the tiny, closely placed (so, easy to confuse them by touch) and not easily reachable by your thumb, buttons, to be used for BBF in XT-1 and XT-2. And I think the focus speed was marginally slower when not focusing with the shutter button (closer to contrast-detect speed with the back buttons, than phase-detect, really). Only the X-H1 slightly improved on that. I think the X-T3 (I haven't tested it personally) has slightly more pronounced back buttons for AE-L & AF-L that can be used for BBF, but I see that the X-Pro3 has only one tiny AE-L/AF-L button. What is your opinion on this? Many thanks!
Great review, thank you Kevin. I was waiting for the X-Pro3 to come out in the hope of getting the X-Pro2 discounted. But two things have changed this; it looks like the X-Pro2 isn’t going for discounted prices and, your review has got me interested in the X-Pro3. 👍
Good to see you back and I look forward to seeing many of your photo’s taken with the X-Pro3. I’m undecided about the screen but I get why they did it and think it’s refreshing to see a camera manufacture try something new. If there’s one thing I wish Fuji would change it would be the joystick, I have the X-E3 and although it works fine it just feels a little weak and small. Also, although you didn’t mention it here, I like the new Q menu customisation, I hope that finds its why to the other X series camera’s too.
Yes, the Q menu customisation seems to be popular though I never use it myself. It's cool that you can make it semi transparent too so you can see in realtime the changes.
Agreed to the joystick could be more stout. It feels like I could break it. Could be flat and concave like a mini Nintendo or PlayStation joystick just not like the early 2000s Sony Ericsson phones
Thanks for the straight-up review, Kevin, and for all you do to support us.... The final image -- Classic Neg -- is stunning....I wonder if Fuji left off backlighting the sub-monitor because it might be a distraction when using the EVF/OVF, IF it could not be dimmed....I have to say that what's wrong with my photography is not the X-E3 I hold in my hands, but how I see and execute. The X-Pro3, lust object that it is, will not make me a better image maker/story teller. Although that new OVF.........
Thanks very much for this honest assessment of the X-Pro3. I was really on the fence about this camera because, like you, I really didn't care for the hidden lcd screen implementation nor the removal of the d-pad. But after seeing this video and how you addressed both of those issues, I've decided to go ahead and purchase an X-Pro3. Fuji should really thank you for this type of honest approach as opposed to some of the straight shill videos I've been seeing, as it kept me in Fuji (yes, I was considering ditching Fuji over the handling of the X-Pro3). Thanks again.
I just bought the camera. So im excited to try it. It seems like the major issues of this camera could have been solved by: - removing the LCD screen or make it articulating - backlight the small LCD - more OVF options
I'm not sure any of those are issues - they are all by design. I personally don't need the rear LCD but some people will of course. It's a great camera.
Another value-adding review! Thank you Kevin! I'm still diggin' the XE3 as my mobile, lightweight, wedding workhorse as I'm pushing my composition capabilities as much as possible, but am fine not having to push the technology envelope. For me, the movement from X100 to X100F was of necessity; but the XE3 platform [similar to XPro2] became a place of tranquility - where technology limitations [and awkward user interfaces] weren't holding back my artistic and compositional capabilities. That being said - would I buy an XE4 with quicker AF and improved EVF? Hhhhmmm. . . .
What lens have the beach b&w photos in the first minutes of the video been shot with? Bokeh looks so shallow. Plus, the b&w conversion is wonderful... is it your own personal editing? Other than that, the new film simulation is gorgeous! There is a color esthetic that other manufacturers just don't manage to create. I like the minimalistc small LCD for film like information, but I agree, it would have been to be backlit, plus, the LCD fully articulating. Like that, they will loose many potential customers....
The good screen has already been invented before and implemented well in the X-A70. You can hide it, Show it or flip it. That's the best screen option I've seen. And the sub-monitor could be also part of this design. Why not?
Please explain why you would prefer to use the X-Pro 3 VS the X-T3 in a working situation. I get that the X-T3 may not be the most fun for some in regards to shooting, but I'm sure it makes your wedding gigs much easier? Or is it a matter of feel and access to buttons that's off-putting? I'm curious. To me, though I love the X-Pro 3 for personal use, I would go nuts if I had to use it professionally due to the lack of tilting screen and other features that make the X-T3 a working rig. As usual, an enjoyable video for sure. Love your work.
Hi Kevin, actually I use two xpro2 for weddings and I always use screen to point and shot when my position doesn't permit me to look into the viewfinder. That happens so quickly and with a xpro3 means to leave always screen opened. I am really sorry for that, do you use screen often for point and shot ( quickly switching from viewfinder to screen)? If yes don't you think xpro3 will force you to loose some pictures you was able to catch only with a screen?
@@kevin_mullins so sad because of it I also love range finder and also to use OVF during night dance moments. Thanks for your answer and have a good day. Bye
I have the same problem, I need to change from evf to screen as quickly as possible, if I have to flip the screen down always that could be a nightmare
Those shots in the beginning are EPIC !! (I love BW and your style in particular, heavy on the contrast, like Ted Vieira) I owned the X100F and seeing the X-Pro 3, the dual function dial scared me, nightmares if you will, cause that is one of the main reasons I sold the X100F, I hated that dial and still do. It simple does not work when you want to change settings in a hurry. (I shoot manual 90%) Changed it for the Leica Q (not the Q2 cause that camera is less light sensitive due to the more MP that basically don't add up to the quality of shooting IMO ~ FF 24MP = sweet spot ) and man that is a relief besides the Summilux lens and colors SOOC. Based on that, I would go for the X-T3 any day of the week. Thanks for sharing your opinion and thoughts, btw any news on Zach, I miss his video's !
@@johnnykempo The ISO/Shutterspeed dial. If you don't put it in the right position, the lock button will not be set. When shooting all manual, this becomes something you do on touch and feel while you keep looking through the EVF. So you keep adjusting ISO instead of Shutterspeed. The Pro has the same system where the XT-3 has 3 separate dials.
@@johnnykempo it depends, I have big hands and the x100f has smaller dials and it only if you shoot Manual and want to dial in the setting whilst looking through the evf . It really annoyed me after a while. Bides that it is a super camera, xpro2 too
Kevin, don't you think it would be a better solution to not have a screen at all on XPro, or to have two versions of it? For ppl who are using screen to review pictures this hidden lcd is frustrating as hell, and if Fuji wants photographers to focus on shooting and not reviewing pictures then they should show some guts and do what Leica have done with M-D and M10-D series - removing lcd completely. Being in the middle - having but not having lcd - neither justifies Fuji's "new philosophy" neither satisfies modern/regular photographer. Great overview of the camera btw, you are the reason I own X100F, I lovin' it!
Hey Kevin. Thanks for the video. Any idea if and when the XT3 might get some of these xpro3 features via firmware such as classic negative, the HDR function -6 shooting etc?
I know a lot of people don't like the rear LCD being hidden but I don't really use it anyway. All I wanted from my x-pro2 was a bigger magnification on the EVF, would you say it's substantially bigger? Also, what camera and lens did you use to shoot this video? Love the colours. Guessing your x-t3 and a 23mm?
Great review, thanks. I’m partial to the XT series, but it’s an interesting concept all the same. Kudos to Fuji for not going with the flow and release a camera with unique features. The Classic Neg sim looks gorgeous.
Was there any discussion at Fujifilm about the angle on the dial deck? Love to know what those who wanted to clean up the lines more like the X100 series was. I would have prefered them straightening it out. I like cameras functional and the angle doesn't seem to have one and make the thing look like a wedge. Of course that's just an optical illusion, but there it is.
Hi Kevin, you say the OVF has been improved in terms of brightness and clarity. There seems to be a downside, though: its magnification is fixed now, and the compromise Fuji chose leaves us without framelines for the 18mm lens, which is my most-used and in fact very popular with street photographers.
Thank you for your informative and highly professional video. I truly enjoy your style of photography as well. On your B&W photos, what film simulation did you use or did you edit from raw? Thank you!
Kevin, I’m a huge fan of your work, both personal and professional. I find your work and style very inspiring. I would love to get your opinion on the XPRO 3 as my main rig for portraits. I am a professional headshot and portrait photographer, working in a small studio with strobes and also often shooting outside with natural light. I have an XT3 and most recently, a X100V, and I’ve fallen seriously in love with the rangefinder style of the X100. So much so, that I’m considering selling the XT3 to get the XPRO3. I’d love your thoughts on that. I actually like the idea of the “hidden” LCD, and I love the connection with my subject when I look through a rangefinder style camera. It’s intimate and I can feel the camera get out of the way. It feels good to have an eye on my subject. I have no problem with the XT3, it’s great and reminds me of the old Nikon FE that I trained on as a teen, but the rangefinder size and style of the XPRO and X100 series has my heart. I feel a deep connection to rangefinder style. I trained on film, shooting since I was 13, and something about the analog feel of the XPRO is calling to me, but unsure how it would be for professional headshots and portraits. Would you feel confident to have the XPRO as a main portrait and even a studio camera? Could it replace my XT3? I also very occasionally shoot family portraits and small events. My work is all about people and the human connection to clients. Thanks for any thoughts! I trust your expertise and thoughts. Would I regret moving to the XPRO from the XT3?
Good to have you back, welcome back. Great review, I appreciate the straightforward manner without getting to deep in the technical minutia. Thank you.
I hope they do a software update for the X-T2 to include the new film simulation. Really liked the look of that! I still can't see the point of having the screen hidden though. Just seems awkward for awkwards sake? If it's going to include one then use it to the best of its ability. Don't hide it away!
But I think hiding it away is meant to be a good thing- to encourage you to look through the viewfinder, both eyes open, waiting for the next shot. Not looking down reviewing your photos- that will be for home, because you trust your camera (and you already confirmed it was a good shot on the EVF). So with that perspective, it was a design change that should enhance the efficiency of a rangefinder-preferring photographer. It also means your back LCD wont accidentally glow obnoxiously in a dark room when shooting events. Just my two cents!
Agree with you on fixed LCD- this flippy thing isn't a help to photographers it is an extra fiddly step - which could have been avoided - was almost enough for me to just walk away from Fuji X series tbh- but ....I will suck it up and use the thing only because I like the viewfinder on the left side of a camera - what people mistakenly and inappropriately refer to as a rangefinder - the Fuji has never been a rangefinder- but you already know that. More detail on quality of EVF as a photographer would have been interesting and helpful...it is very important for me what the actual magnification factor is - again if this isn't up to par - another strike against the camera from a photographer's actual use POV. Thanks for the quick overview Kevin.
The last time I saw an non-back lit LCD must be about 20 years ago now, on my old Gameboy Colour. We had to buy a wired light to plug into the USB on the side just to play games in varying light conditions.
Thanks for your great review, and having just got an X-Pro3 working my way through the menus and custom settings. Just one question if I may, when I import to Capture One can't find the option not to convert the Raw file as well with all the Jpeg styles, eg If i chose Acros that is what I get for both jpegs and Raw. Love the camera so far and a worthy upgrade... the focussing speed of the original 35mm 1.4 is lightening fast! Agree the Submonitor could do with backlighting. Thanks again
What about the ability of focusing as far down as -6 EV with the X-Pro 3 as opposed to the X-T3's -3EV? I have shot SLR style cameras for work for the past 17 years (X-T2 since July 2017). I might be interested in moving to the X Pro 3 just because of the -6EV. What about the EVF? Is it equal or better than the X-T3? I'm very curious. Please keep up the great work. Thanks!!!
Hi Kevin How much better is the EVF compared to the X Pro2 in your opinion? As I get older, I tend to find the xp2 makes my eyes strain these days. Great video!
Appreciate your feedback/review as always. I completely agree with you on the screen and desire to have it stay as it was...fixed...or if need to move then fully articulating giving the option to the user to hide or have facing out as opposed to forcing one or the other. The lack of D-Pad is potentially not as much of an issue depending on the touch screen interface and how that actually works...or adjusting to the joystick. Given this is Fuji's only rangefinder style it forces long time X-Pro1 & X-Pro2 owners/users like myself to consider it as it's the only game in town...but functionality of the body design/screen continues to be a disappointment given how I use that feature...shooting raw and using in camera conversion as a major point...let alone instant access to the menu via Q button. Just more comfortable to than staring at the ground and looking a the EVF...why limit yourself? To actually buy this the internals/software would have to really be leaps and bounds above the X-Pro2...not sure if it is for me. Question for you...how many of the other ambassadors like yourself were hesitant or opposed to changing the screen? Where did the major push for that feature come from...I assume marketing/design areas of Fuji...
I think opinions were divided. A vast majority of the guys and gals wanted a tilt screen of some kind. I think I was pretty much in the minority of not wanting one. TBH though, the camera (screen appreciation aside) really leaps and bounds above the X-Pro2 - but it does depend on what you need. If you find the AF, and other features OK in the XP2, then there perhaps isn't a reason to upgrade. For me, the camera is much more advanced than the X-P2 for the features I need.
Hi Kevin. Time back you inspired me (a lot) when you showed your custom settings, will you do that again again? Im changing from xt2 to xpro3, so Im a little behind :-)
Call me crazy but I would much prefer this camera with no LCD screen at all like the Leica MD (but keeping the new little screen on the back) and with a straight L shape angle on its right side like the X100f. I love my XPro2 but this design going lower towards the right is something that really bothers me a lot. Other than that, no need to change this camera’s design anymore. Correct me if I’m wrong but I feel that Fuji is attempting to touch a niche market (and I think they should) however, they are doing it in a subtle, shy and almost afraid way. I believe they would be much more innovative if they make the changes I suggest above so the customers would appreciate even more the X-Pro3. They could just keep the production and the price of the X-Pro2 for those who really need or want the LCD and offer a new and really innovative, challenging, desired and special X-Pro3 (with those changes I mentioned) for the, let’s say, different level photographers, a different breed... The way Fuji is doing it now will scare the average photographers (because the screen is weird) and make the more experienced ones skeptical about the camera because the screen is necessary (almost useless) for them. I currently own a good deal of Fujifilm cameras and lenses (X100S, X100T, X100F, X-T1, X-T2, X-T3, X-Pro2, X-H1, WCL100, TCL100, XF-14mm f2.8, XF-16mm f2.8, XF-23mm f2, XF-35mm f2, XF-50mm f/2, XF-10-24mm f4, XF-16-55mm f2.8, XF-50-140mm f2.8 and XF-100‑400mm f/4.5‑5.6) so I believe I can say that I know Fujifilm products enough and that I have been observing how Fuji progresses in its camera lineup and that’s how I feel about it. Fuji is proposing that this camera is for more experienced or purist photographers, right? This kind of photographers usually spend their time setting up their cameras before the shooting and don’t waste their time looking at the screen, sweeping, changing unnecessary settings as if shooting with a phone. The X-Pro 3 with no LCD at all could be setup prior to the shooting and when necessary changes are needed it could be done with the dials and bottoms at camera because they are more than enough to change the setting we usually need when shooting (ISO, exp. comp., ss, film s, and aperture on the lens). Really, why do we really need the LCD for the kind of photography that they are advertising the camera for? And this little appeal saying that the camera can be used at waste level is BS. It sounds like the designer team was needing some extra excuse to convince others about the design during the meeting at Fuji and someone who was quiet all the time just said: “look! It also can be used on waste level for more discrete shooting! Like a TLR CAMERA! Isn’t it cool?” It doesn’t look like it was previously thought... If someone really need the LCD, then the right camera should be the X-T3. I thing Fuji is taking a “strange” and risky move. Or maybe its just me being crazy... lol
Dear Kevin. After your review, the Xpro3 is a must buy for me. Just one question. Did you use different Jpeg settings (Colour, Sharpness, Clarity, Tone Curve, NR ...) with your Classic Negative Samples, or they SOOC with standard settings? Please let me know, because I love shooting with your Jpeg Settings. Thank you and Best Regards from Austria, Oliver 😊
First off, I love my X-Pro2 (and X-100f), but earlier reports about the hidden LCD screen in the X-Pro3 was kind of a turn off. Your review has given me a fresh perspective on this camera and I look forward examining one at my local dealership. Will I trade up or just add to the gear I use every day? .... we'll see.
Thanks for this. I moved to the X-T3 from X-Pro2 for similar reasons as yourself (and Fujifilm’s trade in bonus!) - I’ve never felt emotionally attached in the same way, but appreciate the vast functionality of the X-T range. I have 2 concerns about moving back - firstly how does the EVF compare to the X-T3 - is it a lot smaller? Also some reviewers have commented that he LCD can’t be lowered when mounted on a tripod - do you see this being an issue even with an L- bracket?
Hi thanks for your review! Sorry, have you had chance to try the 18mm (27mm framelines)? I've been concerned about this. As far as I know now the ovf has a 27mm coverage area which make this pointless while using the 18mm. It's my favourite focal length so far.
It took Fuji so many years to finally release a Filmsimulation that brings me back to days my dad took photos with his analog Camera! I love the look of classic neg but feel a bit confused about the giving name
I really enjoy the XT and XPro lineups... Always have... And while I'm excited to get my hands on one of these (eventually), I'm almost more excited for what this means for the X-T3 firmware and features looking to the future.
Thanks for the great overview Kevin. I swear I read somewhere that the max video recording time went above 30mins for the first time - are you able to confirm this? Thank you.
Kevin, very little seems to have been said about the OVF on the X-Pro3. Do you still use it in the same way as you did on the X-Pro2 and do you find the reduction to the single magnification a problem or not?
I imagine they will eventually extend the new film simulation to all cameras via a firmware update. Looking forward to it. It seems to be a more saturated classic chrome
One of the benefits of shooting on film (I'm not trying to make an argument a professional wedding photographer should shoot on film--unless that's just a niche for them) is that the camera bodies are so damn cheap and they don't matter to the outcome of the images. Like, just shoot M39 mount cameras. You've got hundreds of camera bodies to choose from and thousands of lenses. A Canon P (Leica clone that uses the same mount) can be had for around $100-300. And the lenses range from $5,000 for official Leica telephotos to $20 for cheap Soviet lenses (which their cheapness often contributes to a really cool effect). But with digital, the body contributes to the quality of the image and has a lot more technology. There is a persistent film built into them and that "film" and everything it needs to operate are quite expensive. So, it's a hard pill to swallow when you need more than one body. I recently bought a Leica M4. I spent way too much on it, but I could afford it and knew that I might not in the future because they are increasing in value and I wanted to collect it, to be truthful. But, the practical choice was the Canon P. It's still so cheap, I'm thinking of getting a Canon P just to be a second camera when I go on a film shoot, so I can minimize how much I change lenses. And most of my M4 lenses are actually M39 lenses with M-mount adapters, so they can share. I'm not trying to persuade anyone of anything. I just think it's interesting how little camera bodies mattered in the film era compared to now -- beyond things like build quality and tactile feeling; subjective things.
If you can give fugi feedback, please ask them to make an xpro3 with an option to get it with a LCD similar to that of the x100v. I love this camera but hate the fold down screen. Thanks!
The most beautiful opening so far and sincere as usual, lovely sample pictures also, especially with Classic Neg! How do you use the LCD screen overhead since it stops at a position hard to see? Any work on noise level compare to X-T3 and its AF, as they said they have improved it over X-T3?
You can bring the screen down to 180 degrees which is fine for most things but the screen is certainly something that people need to consider if looking at this cameras. Noise should be same as XT3 but perhaps a little better at higher ISO due to the -6ev focusing ability compared to the (I think) -3 on the XT3.
Looks lovely! One important factor for my middle aged eyes: is the EVF size any bigger than previously? On X-Pro2 and 1 the small EVF started to be a bit of a hindrance, and one of the single but important reasons why I actually like to use my X-T3 more with its superb large EVF. Thanks!
Two things. First, I’ve noticed that no reviewer has demonstrated the autofocus capabilities yet. Second, what sorcery do you use to get that excellent black and white look that is unique to your Fuji photos? Ive tried manipulating the highlights and shadows setting in the menu, but can’t quite get there. Is it post processed?
The problem is that there is no HDMI out function so we can't record the EVF to deomonstrate the AF stuff. I wanted to, but simply couldn't. There is a video on my channel showing my mono conversion process.
Hi Kevin, I always enjoy your videos and your amazing photos! Thank you so much. You mentioned Lightroom. Since you shoot Fujifilm, do you use Capture One? If not, do you consider to switch to Capture One. I have and I find the results from the RAF files much better than Lightroom. Also the film simulations in Capture One are so close to the ones in the camera. Lot's of greetings, Dennis 🇳🇱
Thanks for the replying. I really liked your video on how to set the x100f! That is how I started with fujifilm. I know you said you gonna sell the xt3, why would you sell it and buy the xpro3 when both have the same sensor that you really like? I ask because I am torn between those 2! I have both now and cannot make up my mind why one is better to keep and the other to give away. I would like your opinion, thanks!
Hello Kevin, Can you tell a bit about the Focus acquisition VS X-Pro2? i would like to upgrade but only if there is a substantial improvement on AF Acquisition, thank you very much if you can answer anytime
Great video. Just subscribed to your channel :). One question, I own 2 xt-2 now and I`m looking for an upgrade. The more logical way would be to go for a x-t3 but I`m really interested in the new x-pro3. What would you think? Shall I give a chance to x-pro3 or just go for the x-t3? Regards from Brazil!

Thanks so much! How is that DURASILVER holding up? I think I want that one over the durablack. It seems it’s a champagne gold. True? How else can you describe the color? :)
Sure am happy to get this reveal of the Xpro-3 from you, Kevin. Stunning shots on the beach! This will be a worthy upgrade from my Xpro-1! Black on pre-order.
Hello Kevin. How is the low light focusing on this compared to the X-T3? Is it noticeably better than the X-T3 considering that it is rated at -6 ev compared to the -3 ev in the X-T3? And do you use back button focus?
xpro3 you love! I do have a question: do you believe that xt3 is very different than xpro3? also, do you believe that the x100f will have an upgrade? since the xpro3 will be an upgrade of the x100f? I love my x100f! however, it seems like the xpro3 is pretty much fixed lens, in that case, why not wait for the upgrade of the x100f? What do you think?
Is there room for an 18mm frameline in the optical viewfinder? Currently, it only goes down to 23mm, which is a problem. I'm hoping they can add it back in a firmware update.
As I mention in the review (and above) the camera is not going to be for everybody, if you don't particularly like the camera, please don't "thumbs down" the video. It doesn't help me and make my kids really sad.
It's a camera that is absolutely beautiful and a mammoth step up from the X-Pro2.
Have a great day folks.
will you be using the xpro3 for your weddings or sticking to the xt3?
@@Griffinallianceaustralia X-pro3 for sure.

This is literally everything and more that I could have hoped for. Fuji camera developers (and Kevin), if you're reading this, thank you for building this camera. Thank you for challenging what people think can be done with a camera, and gifting people something unique.
Great to have you back Kevin, you've been missed!
Thank you & sorry. Been a bit of a hectic time both professionally and personally.
I really like the flip-down screen and rear LCD. There has been so many who don`t like,I think it`s cool.
More in camera edit features are nice, overall it`s a great camera. More of an enthusiasts camera with all the bells and whistles.
Thanks for the review Kev.
That new film colour is wild. It’s subtle and I sure hope that’s in a FW update for the XT3. Super review and pleased to see you filming again!
I hope so too

This could be my first ever Fuji camera.... I love the form factor and simplicity of the X-pro models.
Good job Kevin. I can't wait to get my hands on this thing!
Managed to pick up a great deal on a used XP3 and 2 lenses. Took a little getting used to but gives great results and I just love the classic neg simulation. Thanks for your vids always reasonable and rational.
Great to hear!
Thank you for the kind reply, Axel.
Gorgeous intro photographs! I love your gently-contrasted b&w shots. Please come back to NYC for another photo walk soon!
One day I hope to.
I’m not convinced by the LCD implementation. Will have to try it for myself.
Aesthetically, I wish they would’ve kept the crease on the front, which makes the X-Pro2 look sleeker imo.
Thank you for your take.
Gamal Saleh Think it’s a great camera. But yeah, it has some strange design details on the front.
Thanks! It's really nice to see things through the eyes of somebody who actually uses the cameras he reviews. I watched bad pre-production samples and worried about image quality but yours are perfect. What a great camera!
Thank you!
Keep up the work Kevin. Your wedding photos always inspirational .
Glad you like them!
Excellent review Kevin. Thanks. I look forward to getting to know the used X-Pro3 I just purchased.
Good choice!
Thanks.
These were on the 50mm F2 with Acros though edited a little.
Thanks very much Kevin.
👍
Overall looks nice. I agree with you Kevin. I would have loved the screen to be fully articulating. Maybe in the xpro4.
Great to see you back and thank you for this wonderful review!
Lovely video, shots and camera Kevin. The Neg film stock looks stunning. Thank you for all of your great content over the years
Welcome back dude, great video and as always very impressive images
Thank you :-)
At last a guy who talks the walk, and walks the talk! The Images are wonderful and the chat keeps it real.
A mature in-depth review from a real pro. Good to see you back Kevin.
Thank you!
It seems like the major issues of this camera could have been solved by:
- removing the LCD screen or make it articulating
- backlight the small LCD
- more OVF options
Elaine D fair. But I guess you can have both if your pro
I rarely use the LCD for shooting stills so it won't affect me. For you, who do, then that certainly needs to be a consideration here.
(I love BW and your style in particular, heavy on the contrast, like Ted Vieira)
I owned the X100F and seeing the X-Pro 3, the dual function dial scared me, nightmares if you will, cause that is one of the main reasons I sold the X100F, I hated that dial and still do. It simple does not work when you want to change settings in a hurry. (I shoot manual 90%)
Changed it for the Leica Q (not the Q2 cause that camera is less light sensitive due to the more MP that basically don't add up to the quality of shooting IMO ~ FF 24MP = sweet spot ) and man that is a relief besides the Summilux lens and colors SOOC.
Based on that, I would go for the X-T3 any day of the week.
Thanks for sharing your opinion and thoughts, btw any news on Zach, I miss his video's !
What dual function dial annoys you? Please elaborate
@@RS-Amsterdam thanks. You mean the xpro2 has same problem? I have xpro2 and don't find it too much trouble.
Really have no idea what/if any of these features will make it to the X-T3. I'd be surprised if it didn't get some of it soon though.
I shouldn’t have watched this. I have XT3, I don’t need Pro3. But this guy makes me want it (welcome back, Kevin)
Hi thanks for a nice review. Do you think the Classic Neg film simulation will come to x-t3? Best regards Kasper
Kasper Nørgård I would like to know toooo
I have the X-pro 2 and i love it, and i really been waiting for the x-pro 3. Thank you for the review.
as always a wonderful review Kevin, i look forward to checking this cam out when it releases!
If you check out the extended review on f16.click you can see the full tech specs. And yes, X-T3 with 23mm f1.4 lens :-)
I would miss the d pad and the easy option to change wb, film etc
Thanks for this review. The sample pictures in here are stunning !
When they release a normal LCD version I'll get one for sure. Great camera.
Great review, thanks. I’m partial to the XT series, but it’s an interesting concept all the same. Kudos to Fuji for not going with the flow and release a camera with unique features. The Classic Neg sim looks gorgeous.
Popped the kettle on. Can't wait to watch this video. Missed you Kevin 😀👍🏻
It will be nice to see the new film simulation being added to the other X-series cameras via firmware update.
Check out the text review on f16.click which has all the tech specs.
The last time I saw an non-back lit LCD must be about 20 years ago now, on my old Gameboy Colour. We had to buy a wired light to plug into the USB on the side just to play games in varying light conditions.
I wonder if that wired light is still available :-)
Thanks for your great review, and having just got an X-Pro3 working my way through the menus and custom settings. Just one question if I may, when I import to Capture One can't find the option not to convert the Raw file as well with all the Jpeg styles, eg If i chose Acros that is what I get for both jpegs and Raw. Love the camera so far and a worthy upgrade... the focussing speed of the original 35mm 1.4 is lightening fast! Agree the Submonitor could do with backlighting. Thanks again
Hi Kevin , Many Thanks for this review ! do you think that "classic Neg " will appear on a future update on XT3 ?
I really don't know, but I hope so as I'd love to make some movie footage with it.
@@kevin_mullins Thanks Kevin ! Let's cross fingers ;-)
Thanks!!!
Hi Kevin
How much better is the EVF compared to the X Pro2 in your opinion?
You take amazing images regardless of camera model!
You are very kind. Thanks.
Will I trade up or just add to the gear I use every day? .... we'll see.
Enjoy trying the camera. It won't be for everyone, but for those that it is, I think they will absolutely love it.
I'm guessing the name is due to copyright type issues. But I'm not 100% sure. Agree it's slightly confusing.
What is the Piano piece?
I really enjoy the XT and XPro lineups... Always have... And while I'm excited to get my hands on one of these (eventually), I'm almost more excited for what this means for the X-T3 firmware and features looking to the future.
Thanks for the great overview Kevin. I swear I read somewhere that the max video recording time went above 30mins for the first time - are you able to confirm this? Thank you.
Kevin, very little seems to have been said about the OVF on the X-Pro3. Do you still use it in the same way as you did on the X-Pro2 and do you find the reduction to the single magnification a problem or not?
TBH, I rarely use the OVF these days - except perhaps in very low light. There is a noticible difference in it though.
Do u have a tutorial on setting it up for better use ? Great video thank you
Not at the moment, sorry.
Thanks!
Yup, it is bigger. www.f16.click/gear/fujifilm-x-pro3-review.html will give you all the tech specs.
Subbed. Your images are stunning!
Kai W has shown off the AF a little bit, it's impressive
The problem is that there is no HDMI out function so we can't record the EVF to deomonstrate the AF stuff. I wanted to, but simply couldn't.
There is a video on my channel showing my mono conversion process.
Just received my X-PRO3, for no logical reason it feels right. And I mean RIGHT. My X-T4 is now up for sale. On paper, this makes no sense.
I'm planning to get this camera but nothing would get me to do wedding photography. Street portraits are my thing!
Hi Kevin,
I always enjoy your videos and your amazing photos!
Hi Dennis. I've not switched to C1 but have toyed with it. I can't get the workflow from it that I can from LR at the moment.
Shooting at night or low lighting, is the OVF a better option? I notice there some hunting during EVF shooting?
Hello Kevin,
Can you tell a bit about the Focus acquisition VS X-Pro2? i would like to upgrade but only if there is a substantial improvement on AF Acquisition,
thank you very much if you can answer anytime
Thanks Kevin, great review! Does the rear LCD work OK for shooting overhead, or from low angles?
Does not work from overhead at all as it only folds out 180 degrees. Waist level of course works fine.
Lovely video Kevin. I applaud Fujifilm for being brave not following the herd; personally I love the intent/concept :)
Yes, they are being brave - but I think it's an obvious and clever distinction now between the XT and XPro ranges.
I think Champagne Gold is a good colour description for it.
Wow.. the classic neg are amazing..
Yea, I really love that sim.
@@kevin_mullins do you know if it will be coming to the XT3?
It looked a bit dull in other places but you made it look great.
@@blood_n_guts_murphy I really don't know. I hope so though.
It’s been a while since I’ve dug back into X gear. Can you bracket *custom* film settings yet?
Believe you can
Interesting thanks. Beautiful. Any more in-camera crop options like 5:4? Good value I'm sure but too expensive for me, even if I trade my XT3 😥
Pretty sure it's the same as the other cameras. 16:9 etc. Not sure of any new ones.
xpro3 you love!
X-Pro range of cameras are interchangable lenses, Elizabet.
Is there room for an 18mm frameline in the optical viewfinder? Currently, it only goes down to 23mm, which is a problem. I'm hoping they can add it back in a firmware update.
Very interesting review, and do you consider to upgrade your actual wedding and street (or personal use) gear for the xpro 3 ?
Yes, I'll be using XPro3 for my professional work.
