I'm here now for my confession. After I let a kid start up my Kodiak for fun, it later refused to start. I checked everything - connections, switches, fuses, battery, grounds, relay, even regulator. NO LUCK. Then I sat on the quad and tried to remember what he might have done while sitting on it. Then I discovered a very small button I NEVER KNEW EXISTED under the starter switch - the engine kill switch. So after replacing the solenoid and almost submitting to a mechanic for help, I found the problem. The kid had hit that button by accident I never knew it. I told my wife I had finally found a loose plastic wire connector, so we'll leave it at that.

      Honest mistake.
I have known many people (myself included) that has done this on pretty much anything with a kill switch, be it an atv, motorcycle, etc...
Glad you got it running again.

Changed starter and solenoid. Now the solenoid is just "buzzing" 🤷🤷

Did you figure it out? I'm literally trying to diagnose the same thing.

    Hi,
I have a 2000 Kodiak 400 that is blowing the starter solenoid 30 amp fuse without the key being on. I have unplugged the 4 prong plug and installed the fuse and it does not blow but as soon as i plug it in it blows, what does the plug wires feed? It has a red, blue, and blue with white stripe wire in the plug, Thanks

Ok so I have a grizzly 660 4x4 had it since 2021 my ex sold it to me bc he hates it well he has got about 8,500 in it he should have never bought it bc he can't fix things anyways it's never started right so now I've replaced the starter, the thing ur fixing in the video here, carb, battery, and the rectifier. Now I don't get nothing not even a clicking sound I'm starting to think it might be something in the wiring harness.if ur experience alot with Yamaha could u give me some advice it's a beast of a fourwheeler n fun to ride but keeping it running it's like a Ford truck if u know what I mean. More of a Honda Chevy Mopar kinda person I know nothing about these Yamahas😊

    I have a 2019 Kodiak 450...crank no start
    New battery
Fuses on the solenoid look good and the mini fuses in the little fuse box look good
Still no start but it cranks and sounds normal

If its crank but not starting your problem is not electrical unless its the coil or spark plug.
Make sure you also have fuel flow and maybe double check your kill switch while you're at it.

Hey my friend , did you figure out issue? I'm thinking a fuel pumping . I also have a 2019 and it's doing the same thing . I was leaning towards solenoid but after reading comments it may be a fuel issue ?

    • @turtlescycle

@@jeremyross5164 it's highly possible a few issue. You can disconnect a fuel line and see if it's pushing fuel or not. Another way you can check is to disconnect the spark plug wire, turn the switch on and try to start it (only a couple seconds on the start button) them pull the plug and see if it is covered with gas.
