Saw countless videos about the Flashpoint/Godox AD600 and after watching this video with samples, it clinched the deal for me and I purchased it about 7 months ago. No regrets whatsoever....other than I have not been able to use it much due to horrible California Bay Area weather. Soon it will be consistent and then, it's on!! Thanks, as always, Jason!!
Same light, same C stand, same camera.. awesome combo. Great video Jason. The Godox/Flashpoint system is bringing so much to us non hi end pros. Loving this series ..and yes, you lookin' good!
Ok, not to sound like a total noob, but this is the first video/resource I've ever seen stating what a bowens mount is...I've had no idea! hahaha! I love the step by step description and review. Many thanks!
Jason thanks so much for this review. by far the best one is have seen on this godox/Flashpoint flash. I have been really wanting to watch a review on this product that was short and straight to the point. you always seem to hit the nail on the head with your reviews on any product. once again U DA MAN and thanks bro.
These really are great lights, and a great system. I dumped everything I had, and replaced with these, and have recently added the zoom speed lights. I've not had a moment's trouble out of the triggers. Glad to see you using, and endorsing them. As I have to rely on others to feel better about my decisions.. ;)
Man you are looking great Jason, look so much more healthier....respect for the effort you have put in! And your videos are awesome too, love the new series.
Finally a great review...You're the only one who has answered the question:"HOW CAN I SET MY CAMERA TO SHOOT MORE THAN 1/2000... I just received the FP RL600B thanks to your recommendation from the wedding couple photo shoot at the beach that you did and I just realize that in order to shoot over 1/2000 I should get the Trigger Adapter R2 that will allow me to shoot at 1/8000. Thank you SIr!!!! Keep doing it great!!!
Ditto, I had the Profotto D2 500W with the TTL Air Remote, and loved it, until I had to go out on location and my D2 but it was way too powerful to run on my miniVagabond. I sent it back and got the Flashpoint Xplor 600 and I have not missed a beat. The wind got me when I had it on a light stand and it fell on the cement, I picked it up and brushed it off and it still worked. Love being able to work with groups. I use my Godox 360 as a fill light (had to buy a flashpoint receiver). I rarely shoot full power, and my battery lasts almost all week (3-4 different shoots). Great buy, Adorama just had the TTL version for $550.
Jason, I have 2 Xplor600's, one with TTL and one Manual. I shoot Sony A7R2 and Canon 5DM3 and I have a R2 transmitter for both cameras. I can trigger the Monolights with either camera with out loosing any time re-setting the monolights.
It truly depends on your style of shooting. I have one TTL that I use when the run and gun style is needed, and I have a manual version that I use much the same as Jason does. I shoot manual for most things and thus, I'm very versed in both camera and off camera metering to determine the lighting I want on my subject.
Jason, your videos have led me to the Xplor 600. My question is are you using the TTL version or manual? If you plan on doing any tutorial sessions on the East coast please let me know. I’d love to learn some of your tricks. Great video as always!
J...brother...I just got my set of lights... Flashpoint...I value your feedback... dude...I LOOOOOVE this thing! So awesome, easy and the price point was perfect! ...I didnt need the TTL for my Sony... URGH! Thanks a million!
there can only be one Master, and you're it Jason. incredible shots. I had recently purchased earlier this year the Flashpoint 600 and the triggers. I believe you used it for a wedding shoot on the beach. I use a nikon d600,but it only goes to 1/4000 of a sec. appreciate your videos. best to you.
Thank you brother! The sync speed is determined by the camera, not the light in this case. So if it only goes to 1/4000 it's due to the D600, not the light. The same is true for the A6000 series cameras as well..:)
Since you commented that you will cover the entire Godox line, you might want include that trigger will also adjust the power of all groups while maintaining the set ratio. Nice video for a relatively affordable option.
these videos is just giving me the itch and excitement to go further with my photography passion! thank you! looking forward on getting one (or 2) for my own! subscribed!
Awesome stuff Jason my one just turned up cant wait to use it. You gave me the reason not to fear flash with your videos thanks so much and keep the vidz coming love them
At 3:54 you mention the Old Days. LOL Now what I remember of the Old Days were the Photogenic studio strobes we used in photography school in Daytona Beach. Great strobes but you were limited to 1/60 or 1/125 a sec unless you shot with a leaf shutter. LOL Great video.
Hi Jason, thanks for these videos...they have been so helpful as I have started out with my photography. I am about to buy this flash...have been debating for awhile but your video has clarified things for me.
I'm just an auto-cam, picture taking dad. Info on this one piece of gear, in a short vid, has inspired me to take that next step up. I have already begun researching a direction, and have decided to go with a mirror-less Sony, or comparable. You seem old school. Is this a good path, or should I aim higher to a more expensive DSLR?
Nice! I recently bought Flashpoint's medium Streaklight 360, also with the integrated receiver. Now I have my sights on one of these Xplor600 units! :)
I love everything I have seen about this light. The only thing is no one ever speaks about the light settings and everyone says you can shoot HSS and the light just knows when you are going o shoot in it. But not one person has said that you have to have a camera that supports HSS in order to shoot HSS. I made that mistake but the SB700's thinking of the things I would be able to do outside in the day time. I was wrong as I didn't know at the time the D5000 Nikon doesn't support HSS.. Thanks great video...
Hi Jason - thx. a lot for you great movies. Your really inspire and guide in cool way and very easy understanding :) ! I'm new in your world - but you make it so shoot on that my next camera is Sony a7 III
great Video i also own the 600b , there one more positve thing thing to mention , its multi system capabilitys, u can use the same 600b with a canon and a sony you just need different trigger, that is especially interesting for many canon folks switching to sony but keeping their canon as a back up like me
TTL version is pretty expensive. It's usually arount $750. So it's about a $200 or more option. The lower tier Godox flashes don't have this big of a cost penalty. I would learn to use the flash manually, because it's not hard to learn. To adjust for Ambient in TTL, you make the same kind of adjustments with HSS as manual. HSS flash is mostly ratios between your subject and ambient lighting. So, HSS isn't much different with either manual or TTL. With TTL the camera will adjust for your subject, then you adjust shutter speed for ambient. With manual, you make your setting for ambient then adjust flash power. You will essentially end up doing the same adjustments, just different order. TTL is probably more useful under your camera's synch speed. It will adjust for things like clothing color variation. But in HSS, TTL you don't really get much because you are dealing with the double exposure of flash and ambient. Nathan, your call on whether TTL is worth it. Mind you, you could buy a Lithium Ion Powered Godox flash that you could use for rim lighting with the difference in pricing of AD600 versions. I own the AD360ii, it is full TTL and they don't make a non-TTL. Outfitted with all the required accessories, the AD360ii is about the same price as non-TTL AD600. The real bargain within the Godox system is the AD600 non-TTL. The only benefit over the AD360ii over the AD600 is the compactness, the AD360ii will fit in your camera bag along with your camera. I got my AD360 on a Lightning deal for a $100 discount, so I am happy with purchase.
Nathan Dahler There is nothing to learn with TTL. The camera make the initial exposure. Works in the same manner as auto white balance. Just does a bunch of calculations based on a flurry of pre-flashes for a final exposure setting for the flashes. As with auto WB, it will give you decent performance, but, the outcome is quite generic. Best use again is that you can quickly take of picture of bride in white then take a picture of the groom in his black tux. So for candids TTL can be useful. Other than that, understanding what the correct manual settings from experience is better than relying on a bot to make a creative decision for you. I doubt you will be using a monolight for candids. Definitely save the money. If you aren't in a hurry. Keep an eye out for a Lightning deal on Amazon. You might get a really good deal. The deal I got for my AD3600ii included spare bulb for $10 more. I think they sell for $75 separately. It wasn't the true lightning deal listing, but if you clicked on the link, you got extra options. I think the AD600 are well over $100 for the bulb. They only make one AD600. It works with all triggers. So if you find a kit deal with a trigger that you can't use, it might still be a good bargain. I bought the Canon AD360ii. Godox won't make a plastic foot for it, so you have to buy either a Canon or Nikon to use with Sony. I would get the Bowens Mount so you can use widely available modifiers.
Rapid Box XXL - Bowens - Westcott discontinued the fixed Bowens mount model. They now sell a "switch" model with an interchangeable adapter. Unfortunately, most people report it is crap as the adapter "spins" freely, making it near impossible to mount/remove the box from the flash...
Excellent tutorial videos. Those who question his look should remember this is a RUclips video channel and his liveliness brings good energy. Don't really feel he's objectifying anyone. Additionally, I've been taught by outstanding teachers, whether they've got a strong personality or not they accomplished their goal to educate. This guy's got a great personality. I'd like to try one of his workshops.
this is great news for the photography world... could never consider bying a battery flash like that before with a pricetagg of 2-3000USD each, but 550USD aint any more then the most expensive canon speedlights cost, its just insane... just bought the x1t trigger and couple of TT600 speedlights, and if those works out well, I'm sure gonna save up for atleast 1 of those ad600.... great video as usual by the way:)
What do you do when you’re taking sunset or sunrise shots and there are NO CLOUDS around? Without clouds in the sky, it just seems so bland/boring. Suggestions or tips?
Hi Jason, great video!. I bought a AD600 a few months ago and I got a question... when I shoot in HSS with my nikon D610 I'm always watching a strip of light on the lower edge of the sensor and I don't know why, I have used 1/4000 and 1/2000 with different apertures and ISO's and nothing, something is happening with the shutter I think, but it has happened to you or someone else?
Jason, a great video. Thank you. So you are saying that the Godox QS699II is the same as EXPLOR 600 HSS? Are there any differences that are known between them and what are they. Also what is difference between xplor 600pro and xplor 600hss. Assume you used that xplor 600hss?
I thought monolight just meant it wasn't part of a pack and head system, and all the pieces needed to make it fire are within the unit. Monolight has been around longer than battery powered studio strobes. I think self contained is in reference to the power controls, triggering, flash tube, and circuitry needed to make it work separate from the pack/power source.
The videographer did an awsome job, well lit, shorter video format, straight to the point,, also i was looking at this flash online prior to seeing this video but now i will buy this flash, (you look slimmer too).....
In the video you're using a wide angle lens, so it seems like the model is way further back. What was the actual flash to subject distance. Also, I notice you are shooting at dusk. How will this flash work in broad daylight? Will it have enough power so that you can move it further back for full length shots and group portraits at weddings?
Nice video do you get the ttl version or the regular version of the Flashpoint 600

Hi Jason, hope you can find some spare time to reply. I've just bought my AD600 unit, and plan to use it on beach locations like you do. I'm worried regarding its weather sealing (there's a fan inside of that thing!). Can salty moisture coming from the waves, an overall salty humidity you find on beaches hurt the strobe's electronics? I mean, the fan inside will be literally sucking air with particles of salty water, that can't be good for the flash. How is your experienced regarding this? Keep up with the amazing work! I subscribed to your channel!
I see from your link that there is a TTL and Non TTL version. Could you briefly describe why you recommend the Non-TTL. What is the difference? Besides the price? THANK YOU!
There is a formula for pleasing studio flash portraiture. The distance of the light to the subject should be equal to or less than the diameter of the light source to eliminate hard shadows. Unless that's what you're after.
canturgan agreed, but most studio work isn't happening in the middle of the beach with ocean water shooting at 35mm..:). If I put the light 36 inches away from her it would be in every single shot..
I religiously watch your videos and they are really really worthwhile in this particular video would you have used a circular polarising I don't often see you mention using polarisers and wondered what you thought?
Tip for shooting HSS flash in bright light... Use a .3 ND filter on your primes... This will cut the light by 1/2 and allow you to shoot at F1.4... I live in Arizona, so I do this most of the time.
I only use it when shooting into the sun...I mostly do watersports photography... .3 ND is the right amount to get the shutter speed below 1/8000 at F1.4 or F1.8 without any quality reduction.
Can those who have used both the Flashpoint Xplor600 and the Rotolight Neo 2 explain how these two lights compare? Seems that the main advantage of the Neo 2 is that it is compact; the Xplora600 seems to do all that the Neo 2 does. Just weighing the options before investing in lighting.
How is Godox Ad200 to begin indoor and Outdoor Off camera flash , We have used Speedlite for off camera flash so far and was thinking off upgrading to ad200 , Any recommended Flash modifier to use with AD200 Wistro ? I have small Umbrella Softbox (Neewer 28 inches x 28 inches/70 cm x 70 cm Speedlite ) but want something better with AD200 . Thanks
Do you recommend the Godox AD600 over the Jinbei Hd610 (both TTL). I only ask because you use to shoot with the Jinbei (i think in the U.S. its called Rovelight).
To save even more money for an amatuer photographer, would a Flashpoint R2 with Li-ion (for fast recycle) or with AA batteries, along with a speedflash bracket with Bowen mount, work as well with the softbox? Would the flash power of the speedlight vs. the monolight be the deal breaker?
Hi Jason, great videos mate very informative. One question, I have a number of nikon sb910 speed lights & am looking at getting a Godox AD600, do you know if the AD600 will fire with a pocketwizard tt5 as I would like to use the two different light brands (systems) in conjunction with each other or is there a better firing set up. Your help with this is appreciated, cheers
TCM photography ...yes you can ,just buy new godox x1 receivers for Nikon and you can use as normal including TTL high-speed sink. I am using same setup as well, mixing my Nikon flashes with godox...just remember to leave your Nikon flashes in TTL mode..in manual mode you can't see any change on Nikon flash itself but power changes without showing...
Man, you are a truly inspiration...thanks for everything...a question...what about the Wescott SkyLux? I'm a Sony owner...thanks!!! (come to Argentina PLEASE!)
These gear videos are brilliant. Thank you for taking the time to help us identify gear we could use to better our photography. Do you ever use ND filters in this situation if the light is just too bright, and 8000th sec isn't allowing you to use your widest aperture? Cheers! Paul.
Is there a situation where you would recommend the TTL version? wedding? lots of changing light situations? or you prefer manual no matter what? do you have a link to that Sea/C stand?
do you know if the R2 transmitter will change the TTL compinsation ? I have the other transmitter and everything works but I can't change the TTL settings. Thanks!
Thank you Jason, Does this product work with "Canon ST-E3-RT Speedlite Transmitter" for Canon System or Photographer has to use the X1 Transmitter !!???
Hey Jason . Thanks for all the videos. Great job, keep them coming. I would like to ask you one thing. I would like to add battery powered light to my setup, and i was wondering if modelling light in the Flashpoint Xplor600 can be used to do the same job as Rotolight Neo? This way i could have both strobe and continuos light in one. I know both are different pieces of gear but as i currently can afford one, i would like your take on the subject. Thanks a lot
Marc Hörrmann the HD600v is pretty new, I believe one for Sony is coming. I want it for Fujifilm.... there is a work around Cactus V6 Mark II supports HSS and can fire, but not manage, studio lights. I have not verified this... You need a trigger that supports HSS. it sends a signal before the shutter opens. It can be a speedlight, it doesn't have to light the subject. You need studio lights, or a trigger, that responds optically. The light has to stay on for the sync speed. I imagine that if you have an HSS trigger for the studio lights you can control the lights with that. I think a lightning trigger might wwwork too, to trigger the camera when the flash flashes.
Marc Hörrmann That is true. I decided that I didn't want to spend the extra money for TTL, so didn't investigate it. The TRS-V does control the HD600v, but doesn't support HSS. For HSS you need a trigger that understands your camera. I have TR-A6 for Canon.

Robert Holloway thank you brother!!
Did you get?!? No. . . YOU NAILED IT! Thanks for your no nonsense tutorials. They've been helping me greatly! Keep up the great work!
Thanks!!
Ok, not to sound like a total noob, but this is the first video/resource I've ever seen stating what a bowens mount is...I've had no idea! hahaha! I love the step by step description and review. Many thanks!
Dude...maybe it's our last name tocayo because I said the same thing when he explained it LOL!
Johnny Guerrero no worry my man..

oh yeah and that shot where u stopped the water.... fuckin!!! awesome!!!!!!!!!
had my wife over here losing her mind over that shit.
Just got this last night (Godox Sony version). So excited to use it on my first outside shoot. Thanks Jason

Can't come up with any unique comments I am afraid so, Great video Jason, as always, and BOY, did you get that shot! Stunning.
LOL, thank you!
I've really been enjoying these videos Thank you so much for putting them out there.
Jason that was epic. I was thinking of getting one of these. Now you have made my mind up. If it's good enough for you - I'm sold.
Awesome!
Thank you for all of these videos Jason! I am working on taking one of your workshops soon.
This series is epic, nice nugget size movies straight to the point and easy to understand.Thank you.
Tony Seddon thank you brother!
Jason, I have 2 Xplor600's, one with TTL and one Manual. I shoot Sony A7R2 and Canon 5DM3 and I have a R2 transmitter for both cameras. I can trigger the Monolights with either camera with out loosing any time re-setting the monolights.
Kirk Sharp hi Kirk, i am planning to buy one for my Sony. Would you suggestbthe TTL version or non TTL version?

Jason, not only a great video... again, but you're looking great, too. Congrats, man!
Jerry Giles thank you!!
Couldn't agree with you more Jason. I absolutely love this light!
Just purchased this light. Glad you did a small video on it.

Thank you, Jason! As always...
Ad600 still holds its own today. Before I owned an alien bees which I had to use separate receiver and battery to operate.
Yes it does
I am sitted here wondering how to use this same light I got. Do you have a video for the whole basic set up?

this is great news for the photography world... could never consider bying a battery flash like that before with a pricetagg of 2-3000USD each, but 550USD aint any more then the most expensive canon speedlights cost, its just insane... just bought the x1t trigger and couple of TT600 speedlights, and if those works out well, I'm sure gonna save up for atleast 1 of those ad600.... great video as usual by the way:)
Perfect topic and great video! Thank you.
I loved the jokes beside the work you did. Thanks. You really convinced me into buying AD600. I was considering it nowadays.
FYI, the pronunciation is God Ox, after the Chinese brand name 神牛
The videographer did an awsome job, well lit, shorter video format, straight to the point,, also i was looking at this flash online prior to seeing this video but now i will buy this flash, (you look slimmer too).....
Thank you for these details! Love this series.
This new series are very helpful thanks o and your looking very slim keep up with it 👍🏽
I see from your link that there is a TTL and Non TTL version. Could you briefly describe why you recommend the Non-TTL. What is the difference? Besides the price? THANK YOU!
Or do any of you on this thread know. I’ve seen a lot of people ask, but no answer. Thank you in advance!
Jason Lanier In that case you need to use a larger light source.
canturgan lol yes I'm gonna take a massive parabolic into the ocean...
Jason Lanier Good idea.
canturgan lol well obviously it isn't. But I'd sure love to see a video of someone trying it. You up for the challenge?
I religiously watch your videos and they are really really worthwhile in this particular video would you have used a circular polarising I don't often see you mention using polarisers and wondered what you thought?
Neil Bigwood I'm not opposed to polarizers but I don't use them very often
Thanks so much! so many questions answered, you are great!
I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE!!! Thanks J!
You're welcome brother..:)
Thank you, sir. you're amazing.
I really want to get one. The other one I saw you shooting year or so ago had issues with HSS I think.
Jason what focus mode are you in on your camera and how do you focus so accurately using the LCD? Thanks and great videos!
Tip for shooting HSS flash in bright light... Use a .3 ND filter on your primes... This will cut the light by 1/2 and allow you to shoot at F1.4... I live in Arizona, so I do this most of the time.
Thomas Lenard yes I know. But as I mentioned the purpose was to show what this light could do without any other diffusers, ND filters etc..:)
better not use the ND filter if you dont have to..... the best filters are quite expencive and still gives a little bit of image quality reduction...
I only use it when shooting into the sun...I mostly do watersports photography... .3 ND is the right amount to get the shutter speed below 1/8000 at F1.4 or F1.8 without any quality reduction.
By far one of the best things I have bought. Good video Bro! What was your location?
Thank you my man. This was at Venice Beach.
Yes....that's what I'm looking for 🖒🖒🖒 Thank's for your nice Video..real great work. WOW !!!
Thanks
Jaon. Thank you! Two questions.... on the last shot, what focal length and lens did you use?
Do you recommend the Godox AD600 over the Jinbei Hd610 (both TTL). I only ask because you use to shoot with the Jinbei (i think in the U.S. its called Rovelight).
Fantastic as usual!
Gran video... siempre el mejor!! :D
Great Video!!
(come to Argentina PLEASE!)
fantastic video
Please try out the new Fotodiox Fusion adapter Nikon to Sony e mount. Supposed to make Nikon lenses operate natively
Did I get it? Did I get it? What kind of question is that? Of course he did. Jason makes no mistakes, he's perfect in every way and humble. Lol
I would like to see you in turkey, if you want history and different architectural structures you can take a few photos
These gear videos are brilliant. Thank you for taking the time to help us identify gear we could use to better our photography. Do you ever use ND filters in this situation if the light is just too bright, and 8000th sec isn't allowing you to use your widest aperture? Cheers! Paul.
Yes you could do that Paul..
Thanks!
Thank you Jason,
Does this product work with "Canon ST-E3-RT Speedlite Transmitter" for Canon System or Photographer has to use the X1 Transmitter !!???
Thanks a lot
looking good man, keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
same thought!
can u do more vids like this specifically showing the light on full power with ND filters @jasonlanier
Jinbei has one too. It's pretty similar to this one. And Jinbei also has one that does TTL. Protog has videos about them both.
If u mean the HD610. NO, NOT FOR SONY
Marc Hörrmann the hd610 does TTL.I think there is a trigger for the HD600V. I'm interested in Fujifilm and Canon.
John Summerfield but u cant control with the trs-v trigger the new HD610V.
Marc Hörrmann That is true. I decided that I didn't want to spend the extra money for TTL, so didn't investigate it. The TRS-V does control the HD600v, but doesn't support HSS. For HSS you need a trigger that understands your camera. I have TR-A6 for Canon.
Hey Jason, I have a question... Would you suggest using the TTL or Non-TTL version of this system?
Henry Eiland i have the same question lol :)
Same question here.
Hello. Does the godox trigger produce any shutter lag with the Sony's multi interface hotshoe?
