Thank you for this fantastic video Jason. Thank you for taking the time to make it and showing us step by step on how to make this. Your an Excellent Photographer and your talent shows. It also shows you do not need thousands an thousands of dollars in equipment to provide a quality product ....... Again !! Thank you
OhMyGoodness Feddy you've GOT A SOLUTION to our Sony lighting issues!! I already have the Phottix Odin and it works fine with the A7 (which I own) and the A7RII (which I've rented for a few events - AWESOME!!), but it definitely is not the same as having a powerful light as you have here, and at a great price!! What I can't understand is WHY aren't there more lighting solutions when there ample proof that the A7 series is booming in popularity and here to stay?? Again, THANKS, FEDDY!!
Nice! I've been doing the same HSS thing with my Phottix Odin/Cheetahstand CL360 combo on my a6000 and A7ii/A7rii. Been able to vary the power from 1/1 down to 1/8. Great to see it can be done with the Flashpoint too.
I tried to tell you could do hss with the flashpoint and photixx trigger when you were in Dallas, think it went in one ear and out the other. Oh well, glad you figured it out :)
I heard you brother! Nobody told me it would change the power ratios though. All previous info anyone said to me is that it would only fire at 1/1 which isn't nearly as important as it being able to go down to 1/16
I love your work and was so sorry I couldn't join your workshop in Tassie. Hopefully you will come back one day. When you talk about specific products in your videos, if you have time, could you list them in the description please.
Thanks for all your great videos Jason, love watching your videos as I learn so much and you speak in layman terms that people can understand. Next time you are visiting Australia please come to Sunny Brisbane and I would like to atch up with you and meet the man in person. Please keep doing these grat videos.
Love your photos and the nice landscape in VIC. Is the HSS flashpoint rl-600b still available for purchase, as I searched the net and it is no longer available. I am in Sydney
Jason, will the Pixel King transmitter work straight from the A7R hot shoe for HSS, or will I need something with a sync port mounted in between (such as the Sony FA-CS1M)?.. Excellent video and results, just what I need for my RL-600B. Thanks for sharing.
Great video and model. If one dosent have a high speed sync flash unit and had a only a speed light (I guess at full power and lots of batteries) and wanted to shoot wide open would using a nd filter plus that be a decent compromise to use to achieve a similar result? Love the videos keep them coming.
Thank you so much for this video and walk through. I have been trying to do my research for my sony a6000 to find the type of light i need for many uses. Thank you Jason
Great video... I just ordered the flashpoint monolight... but the one thing in your video you mention was to put the camera in flash wirelss... for some reason my Sony A6000 is not giving me that option... any suggestion? Only options it is offering me is "flash", "rear sync" and "slow curtain".
Great stuff Jason, another informative video to help with the HSS problem. Its brilliant that you provide us with the information that everybody is asking for. Maybe Pixel king will see the potential for this product and take onboard your comments. There must be tens of thousands of Sony togs wanting this product, shame they can't get you on board (Or can they?) Thanks for sharing
Jason hi, What are your settings for the explor 600(ttl, manual?) I believe that I see your camera is set to manual? I always wait for your videos. Great work! Thanks, William
Great video, Jason. I have the a6000, and I just purchased the 600b. I'm sold on the pixel kings, but can you tell me if they will also trigger my Sony F43 speedlite simultaneously? I'd like to combine them at times and need a solution that will work with one or the other and both if need be!
Hi Jason, I shoot with Sony long time ago. My question is, why did you set. Your camera wl mode? On Sony cameras the wl mode works like, if you attach a speedlight on the camera and this flash trigger it the other flashes. I use the same moonlight but in normal flash mode ad works as should. Sorry for my bad English.
The Flashpoint RoveLight 600 used in this video, is being replace by the Flashpoint XPLOR 600 TTL , HSS All‑in‑One Studio Flash (Bowens Mount) $749.00- or without TTL for $599-. A transmitter is included for one of the following Canon, Nikon or Sony. The XPLOR 600 transmitter appears to been much improved from the RoveLight's transmitter. This is available from Adorama, Amazon or ebay. Adorama offers better deals, say If you buy a 2nd light at the same time you can save $50-. Make sure and checkout the other money saving package deal offers on modifiers, stands, etc. that one can apply at the time of purchase. For an additional $64- XP600 Hand-held Extension Head for the XPLOR 600 series of outdoor portableflash strobe units. The remote head is connected to the XPLOR 600 unit via cord which plugs into the strobe flash socket which acts as an extension cord between the strobe and remote flash tube. It can be handheld or mounted onto a light stand. This same strobe is available with other names brands, to my knowledge the Flashpoint XPLOR 600 TTL is currently the only one offering TTL.
Hi Jason, or anyone, I'm having a difficult time acquiring the Pixel Kings specified. Ive been able to find the receiver only in a couple of places. I'm assuming they are discontinued or about to be replaced. This doesn't help me right now. Any insight as to where I can purchase a set is appreciated. Good job as always Jason.
I had a set of those triggers and sold them when I bought my A7m2! Dang! Jason, do you know if the Pixel King trigger/receiver set will do HSS with Paul C. Buff flashes (e.g., Alienbees or Einsteins)? Will Pixel King release a set that's compatible with Sony's multi-interface (MI) shoe?
Jason, in Amazon are 3 types of Pixel King triggers and the ones I belive you used with the Sony Alpha a7R II are PIXEL King Wireless TTL Flash Trigger Transmitter Receiver For Sony (do not support A55 A65 A77 NZX-77). My concern is that it mentions that do not support a77?? Can you tell me the exact model of the Pixel King triggers? Thanks. I like a lot your videos.
Jason, a couple of questions. When you initially set up your camera, are you taking a scene exposure, of lets say, 6400, f- 1.8 , 100 iso...... Then under expose (to gv scene drama)the ambient by about a stop?? Now light your subject with flash. Thanks! William
Hi @jason, Thanks for share!! you have an amazing chanel. I se this video and i want to buy s sync for my Canon Camera, can you let me know what type do you use in your setup? Thanks!!!
+Sean Laughlin The cyber commender and triggers will work but only in the manual mode to fire the Einsteins. I had the CC on the A7II and it would fire the lights and allow me to make adjustments while the CC was attached to the hotshoe!
+Jason Lanier Thanks for that perfect video ;) I am a big fan of your work. I also shoot with the a7r2 with metabones iv and the results are stunning.. I am still looking for a monolight solution with hss. did you try the pixelkings with the jinbei hd600? does hss work with that as well? greetings from germany
+Jason Lanier , HELP PLEASE. Ive got the Pixel King triggers, the Jinbei 600V strobe & I'm using the Sony A6000, I have set it to the Rabbit & the high sync setting & have set the camera to both 'Fill' & to 'Wireless' flash- My issue is that i can't get it to capture the flash at speeds higher than 1/160th. Am i being stupid? Please assist as getting frustrated. Thanks heaps.
Hi Jason, I'd like to make sure I'm fully understanding this. At a wide aperture you bring the shutter speed up high enough so that the background/sky is properly exposed, then the flash comes in to expose your subject?
Hi, I'm looking at a portable system with HSS. Have you seen the Godox 600watt second setup? Also thinking about a Paul Buff Einstein and ND filters. I want to be able to shoot on the beach with shallow depth of field.Thoughts?
For anyone wondering... The RL 600B monolights in this video can be triggered with the Flashpoint R1 transceivers. The R1's are only 39 bucks each and I'm using them with my Nikon camera.
I have a quick question...I have a Flashpoint FP600 monolight and I just bought the Godox X1T-S TTL transmitter. Does this work with the FP monolight? Am I missing a receiver? Or does this transmitter only work with Godox flash?Thx so much!
Anyone know if Yongnuo triggers/receivers would work on this? Also do the Pixel Kings use the old Sony/Minolta shoe (for which one would need an adapter on the A7 series) or do they use the Multinterface shoe? (oh, by the way, great video)
So the Sony detects that the flash is wireless and HSS capable. Then the monolight receives a command to do HSS. But it seems like manual is being used on the camera and the power level on the monolight. Does this setup allow for TTL automatic metering modes or only HSS triggering?
Hi Jason. Thanks for everything what you dooing for all of us. Its a great job !!! I watch all of your tutorials and don`t know how to say thank you for all your knowledge that you share with us. And You absolutly right about this trigger for Flashpoint Rovelight. I got this flash, ( I bought it because of you... ) - its amaizing but trigger is so bad. The manufacturer should make the new one with LCD and possibility use High Speed Sync. Maybe for Christmas? Tomek
hello, i would like to ask you if all studio flash's can do HSS? or it is matter of the trigger's can do this? i want buy a Godox X1C TTL with NiceFoto Portable Flash 680A, so is can be doing a HSS?? thanks
No light meter was used. He did a few test shots, but got it together very quickly. We only had about 30 minutes to do the shoot, so set up was very minimal.
you can use the pixel kings on the strobies and get HSS ...from 1/8 to 1/1 power...I do it on my Godox ad360 (which is the same unit) and it will sync up to 1/8000 sec...
Jason, is it the Pixel King for Sony or does it matter which you use. I know you've stated that Sony will work with Canon an Nikon flashes also but for this scenario which are you using?
Hey, I subscribe. I just received an Expore 600 TTL with R2 trigger for Sony. I have the camera set to Wireless flash. Shutter 160 or below. Just one question about those speedlite, flash lite whate ever they called, onece i attached on my camera NIKON D3200 (cheap one) my shutter speed is only 1/200 sec,,if i try to go for higher shutter speed they not allowed me it stays only at 1/200,is there any trick or tip how to use higher shutter speed once you have speedlite attached on camera, what kind of mode need to selected...Thanks if you can understand my english writing please answer... :)
Your explanation about that hi speed sync and showing the samples between high speed and normal sync speed with the DoF is so good that good old Joey McNally can take a leaf on that hehehe (okay gimmie the thumbs down). Great environment but what on earth about that tattoo on her upper leg...... Thanks for sharing and can't wait till your next vid. Keep up the good work.
you can purchase them from amazon or ebay www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MRU81UM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1447564724&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=pixel+king+triggers+for+sony&dpPl=1&dpID=41pVsEpOVbL&ref=plSrch
Are these the older Minolta type mounts on an adapter? What software version are they running, I couldn't get my old PIXL Kings working with a loaner A7II :( Or are they a Nikon/Canon King?
+Blake Griffin At 0:22 it looks like it's an old minolta shoe on top, so I think he's using a minolta/sony transmitter (I think it's this one www.pixelhk.com/Proshow.aspx?id=158 ) into an adapter (ADPMAA). I think he could also use it without the adapter and use a flash sync cable instead, but cables get messy...
So I purchased the pixel king for sony and the required adapters. I am trying to do hss with my sony a6000 and my older Nikon sb600. It will flash at higher speeds but screen is black or partially black. Can I do hss with this setup or do I need a newer flash that says it can do hss?
+Jeremy Gray If you have not figured out by now, you probably received some very old units that were manufactured in 2011. You will need to update the firmware in order to get HSS!
Helpful and informative, Thank you Jason for sharing the BTS! Good luck and keep creating!

phottix odin trigger and reciever
and just for the record i don't even know what a flashpoint streaklight is, so can't say if it will work or not

I want to thank you for your video, I just bought the flashpoint 600b from Adorama because of you. so far I'm in love with it.

Great job Jason! I've been eyeing this piece for a while... thanks.
What type of light modifier do you have on that Monolight? Is it a honeycomb or just softbox-type?
+Chris Davis Not Jason, but that small modifier comes with the light!!
Jason, I appreciate cha. No other words...

Fabulous Jason, will Commander Mode on my Nikon 750 fire that bad boy Flash Point RL 600B ? Has the transmitter improved since 2015 ?

+bowenrichardc Did anyone reply to you question? Cause I'm wondering the same thing.
No reply. However, Godox has a new line of speedlights, studio flashes, and trigger that work with the Sony MI shoe and are reasonably priced.

I am still looking for a monolight solution with hss.
did you try the pixelkings with the jinbei hd600? does hss work with that as well?

Glad it helped. I believe the Jinbei is the same thing as this light so theoretically it should work.

Hi Jason,
I'd like to make sure I'm fully understanding this. At a wide aperture you bring the shutter speed up high enough so that the background/sky is properly exposed, then the flash comes in to expose your subject?

Awesome. What location is that at?
Now that Godox makes a 600w/s battery strobe with dedicated Sony trigger, are you gonna try it out?
Anyone know if Yongnuo triggers/receivers would work on this? Also do the Pixel Kings use the old Sony/Minolta shoe (for which one would need an adapter on the A7 series) or do they use the Multinterface shoe? (oh, by the way, great video)
Did you have an adaptor for the hotshoe?
I have the same pixel kings and a HSS speedlite and can't get it to work... Could please explain a little more on this? Thx!!
Will High Speed Sync Flash work with other Sony mirrorless cameras such as the NEX5R or the a6000?
Which pixel king trigger are you using? There of course are different models
Is this monolight high speed synch or hypersynch? can you explain the difference. Also, can i do HSS with Flashpoint R2 transmitter with this light?
That will work using the Witstro AD-360 plus the FT16 along with the Pixel King, right?
So the Sony detects that the flash is wireless and HSS capable. Then the monolight receives a command to do HSS. But it seems like manual is being used on the camera and the power level on the monolight. Does this setup allow for TTL automatic metering modes or only HSS triggering?

have you ever tried the Brenizer method with the Batis?
Omg ...you was here in victoria !!!!
Great ocean rd is one of my favourite place 🤩

Did you use a light meter to set this up, or was it pure luck that the lighting was so dead on?
No light meter was used. He did a few test shots, but got it together very quickly. We only had about 30 minutes to do the shoot, so set up was very minimal.
is the connection from the receiver to the flashpoint just a sync cord?
Really useful, thanks so much.
you can use the pixel kings on the strobies and get HSS ...from 1/8 to 1/1 power...I do it on my Godox ad360 (which is the same unit) and it will sync up to 1/8000 sec...
Exellent Job! Thanks!
do u have the links for the products? thanks
awesome video!
Jason, is it the Pixel King for Sony or does it matter which you use. I know you've stated that Sony will work with Canon an Nikon flashes also but for this scenario which are you using?
the pixel king triggers jason was using are for sony . but they also have for nikon and canon
Hey, I subscribe. I just received an Expore 600 TTL with R2 trigger for Sony. I have the camera set to Wireless flash. Shutter 160 or below. Here is my problem: The flash only syncs with the iAuto mode for my a7R2 or a6300. In any other mode the flash fires, but not during the time the shutter is open. Any ideas?
Great video as usual! #greatphotogscanpostsooc (shots fired!)
I would like to see a review on the ad200 lights.
Would an ND filter help compensate for wider apertures?
I use hss with my phottix indra 500w and have no problem with recycling time, works fast and never missfirering.
Also $1,200... You could buy 4 of these and have money left over for one of those.
I'm no High Speed Sync photographer.
I just want to know if this unit will solve my studio problem to sync my Sony RX-10 to my studio strobes.
Thanks!
I don't have the cash for such equipment. But the new Nissin Di700a with air 1 controller does the job @ 1/4000th of a second for me on my Sony camera 👍.
Nice comparison in between with and without hss. 👍👍
Great vid
You could use an ND4 filter or something to keep aperture when going to 1/250th
Just one question about those speedlite, flash lite whate ever they called, onece i attached on my camera NIKON D3200 (cheap one) my shutter speed is only 1/200 sec,,if i try to go for higher shutter speed they not allowed me it stays only at 1/200,is there any trick or tip how to use higher shutter speed once you have speedlite attached on camera, what kind of mode need to selected...Thanks if you can understand my english writing please answer... :)
Which modifier did you have on the strobe?
Without any high speed sink. Can I also use ND filter. Is it possible?
every time you shoot the flash didn't fire ?? Reliability issues with flash ? what do you think ?
can you do that on elinchrom ELB quadras? if so which heads?
Is this good for Indoor, Studio and boudoir shoots too?
do you know if it would work on XT1 Fujifilm camera Jason, trying to buy strobes etc but not getting good info on this.
would this work for a fujifilm xt2 jason lanier?
awesome beach ;)
Sweet video brother!
Thanks! I'll be picking up at least one of those bad boys.
Can't find the pixel kings anywhere? Any other options?
how about for the cost of helpers and models, etc???
Your explanation about that hi speed sync and showing the samples between high speed and normal sync speed with the DoF is so good that good old Joey McNally can take a leaf on that hehehe (okay gimmie the thumbs down).
Great environment but what on earth about that tattoo on her upper leg......
Thanks for sharing and can't wait till your next vid.
Keep up the good work.
What Hotshoe adapter did you use below the PK TRIGGERS......?????
adp-maa adapter sony
So, if HSS works now with the Pixel King, does that mean SCS works as well?
what mic are you using?
jason Lanier is there any way you could put a link to where to pick up this equipment
+seanimal3 please?
+Sian Pearce Gordon absolutely please
you can purchase them from amazon or ebay
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MRU81UM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1447564724&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=pixel+king+triggers+for+sony&dpPl=1&dpID=41pVsEpOVbL&ref=plSrch
Does it also work for Fuji x camera's?
great video and love the shots!
p.s. you can use the pixel king tx as a rx if you hook it to the flash via the pc port
the 85mm batis is effing incredible
Are these the older Minolta type mounts on an adapter? What software version are they running, I couldn't get my old PIXL Kings working with a loaner A7II :(
Or are they a Nikon/Canon King?
+Blake Griffin They wouldn't register at all, and wireless was completely greyed out :/
+Blake Griffin At 0:22 it looks like it's an old minolta shoe on top, so I think he's using a minolta/sony transmitter (I think it's this one www.pixelhk.com/Proshow.aspx?id=158 ) into an adapter (ADPMAA).
