I'm a mechanic in NZ. We had a decommissioned International 1970s fire engine to fix and then i got to deliver it to the owner 20 miles away. They haven't been used for years in the NZ fire service, but people still recognize it as a fire engine so on the motorways people see it and get out of the way for you. It was the best run i've ever had on the motorway. And no I didn't use the lights and siren.
Ok i noticed it too and commented then i figured id go look in the comments to see if im right. Im assuming i am but ive never even touched a fire engine other than sitting in one as a kid. But glad to see im not the only one that noticed
my mate said he works on fire engines that are still in service. that red bar is for strengthening/support rod. that is not used to hold it up, it's being compressed up with cylinders, pumped up manually and for to release you let the air out :D
@@BoozySZN You can clearly see it is bolted to the chassis in the front end and the back end is secured only with a pin. Pull that pin and the red bar can move. I don't think you would support anything with a loose pin... you can see it clearly at 10:43
The ladder is a LACON 13.5 metre ladder, it weighs 100kg, and is usually removed by 4 men! Its a great bit of kit, really strong. Ring your local fire station and ask them for advice.

To get the cab tilt to work remove the ladders first not by the line 😂 turn the cab tilt button on then put the cab lock into the raise position, go to the near side front locker. Should have a non latching switch near the top of the locker and that will raise the cab electronically. In the engine bay is a big red bar. That is the safety prop and I would definitely use it. The engine carries on going when the key is out so the driver can aid the scene while the engine, pump, lights etc are still working without the keys being stolen. It works the same way in police cars and I imagine ambulances too. Hilarious video!
Just an idea, if you don't know what your doing , contact a professional company and pay them to do it for you. Even better, contact your local fire service, those lads lived with these for a few years and would know them inside out.
Theres a master switch on them. Also with the ladder the pawls have become free so you have extended the ladder. The two red handles you should pull and the whole ladder should roll free. you will have to re-set the ladder again. This is fun to watch, I was shouting at the screen! Haha. Easy when you know. 👍 good luck.
