I was the Test driver for Manchester Airport for Reynolds Boughton (Winkleigh) back in 1989 - Drove the Marlin to Bournemouth for its x country/ hill descents / brake testing - tthen drove to Chertsey (London) for its tilt testing and circuit running. Then upto Darlington to get the Blues and twos etc fitted. On route me and the "Fitter" in his sherpa van stopped over night at a Motorway service Hotel overnight. Could cause some issues with the court when you call the police to inform them in 2 days there will be a fire where you will need to drive this fire-engine on the public road
Well these are specifically base on airport ground to avoid that scenario, if they have to go on public roads (for example another airport bought it or it's going somewhere else) then they have to notify, if theres a fire anywhere other than the grounds it's based its normally for local fire to sort out, however if theres an emergency that is aircraft related and is close to the airport but too remote for normal firefighters to get to (in rough terrain) then they have an exception.
In that case it would be an "emergency situation" , and when there assistance is needed they are clear to go. In Germany they had a situation where a fire engine could cross the country boarder to assist the local fire department, but when they drove back they got a ticket for driving on toll roads without paying...in emergency it was allowed, but not for transfer back. It went back and forth...they canceled the assistance...in the end an agreement was made to guarantee free passage
Few years ago I was doing a confined spaces course at Gatwick Airport fire service and they had these in service. We had chance of a blast down one of the runways. My god an awesome experience! The acceleration and speed was incredible,, I’d love see how Stewart gets on with this project.
I always thought these would make a great custom rv. Gut the inside and make sleeping quarters. Save room for large fresh and dirty water tanks and large fuel tanks. Then you can spend long periods away from people in this. Not to mention the off road capabilities would be awesome.

Wow brings back my memories when I worked at Gatwick. We had javalin and I remember I did a servive on one that had the skymast ladder, 2 days just to service the engine. Fantastic engine, I even did the engine course. Love to see her on the next video. Does she use a power divider for the pumps.
Yes, she has a power divider attached to the flywheel housing for the pump PTO, I believe it was Fire Trucks/ Boughton's own design but I have not been able to find any information on it.
@@thomascatford2627 the superchargers are required at low rpm for scavenging, as this is a 2 stroke diesel, it requires positive intake air pressure to bring in air and begin to expel exhaust gases as the intake ports are in the cylinder wall, not in the head. We are now in the gallons per minute stage not gallons per mile! Plus special privileges required for road use, bridges, weight and width restrictions etc means this baby would be off my wanted list. Nice to dream about though, interesting video, keep em coming!

More proof that real fire engines are powered by Detroit Diesel. They do well with sustained high revs that are needed for running water pumps.
Doesn't really take high revs to run the pumps, just depends on the application and type of apparatus
