The crazy thing is I got my mk3 with the the int being a 9/10 and the paint being like a 7/10 it was really well kept and it’s all original on the interior.
I just found an 88 7m-ge (non-turbo) in amazing garage kept condition. 124k mi and zero rust. I wanna keep it stock except for maybe coilovers, a set of enkei's wrapped in some nice rubber. If i can take it to classic car shows ill be happy. I just want it to be as clean and stock as possible. I have a thing for unmodified classic ricers. MK3 is a GT car straight up. Obviously with an engine swap it will smoke most of the cars out there, but I've come to enjoy the fact that It's meant for cruising rather than burnouts.
@@rushnerd no need to swap the engine just need to know to build the cars 7mgte just as capable as 1j, 2jz with metal head gasket, arp studs and properly torqued. Can make 6-700 hp on a stock bottom end if tuned right.
Just got my Mk3 fixed. One bad problem you missed (no disrespect) is the 7M has an absolutely horrible problem. The head gasket WILL blow or has blown at some point.
Absolutely correct 💯. The Mk3 Supra is a gorgeous car and super reliable once you've put the time and money 🤑 into them. Trust me I've done everything possible too mine. 🏁🏁🏁🏁
Engine bay looks incredible man. I'm still on stock 7M-GE, but I've really made her look nice. I'm just happy to own one of these that looks cool. Such a fun car to drive.
Great video Mark! Youve been doing amazing videos and have definitely been inspiration for my channel. I ended up doing a "History of the Supra" after seeing this video, and posted it today. Keep up the awesome work man!
You missed the Ultra bad, the head gasket goes quick on the 7mgte engines, you have to torque the dowel pins higher to prevent the destruction and also get a better head gasket.
I came here with the mindset that this video was going to be any other video talking about Supras, but actually, it was very interesting and funny. Definitely enjoyed this video! 👌
You forgot to mention that it is the first Supra to be named Supra instead of Celica Supra. Also the MA70 has a racing history in the JTCC in which they made a limited edition MA70 which is called the Turbo A and only came in black. The motor that was used in this Turbo A is called the 7M-GTEU which made 267 hp and limited run of 300 or 500 cars. Yes I have a MK3 Supra for the past 23 years with a 7M and I drove it all the from Toronto, Canada to Las Vegas for the big Supra Meet in 2004.
I just talked to someone who said her mk3 could fit two costco carts full of groceries in hers with the rear seats folded down. Its a gangster hatchback that is sick if you wanna put the work in (and vbucks). Saw one in person and was amazed at how huge the interior was
Two words - "7M Headgasket". I love that car, had one for several years, but if you need to keep it stock with the 7M, either GE or GTE, REPLACE THE D$%^ HEADGASKET.
I bought mine with that job already done. Hopefully everyone who buys one knows about that issue. It really sucks, but once it's done right along with other things this car needs, it really is a reliable superhero.
Red Supra MK3, stick shift twin turbo with 235 HP was my first car. Put in a custom down pipe to help the turbo not glowing red hot all the time. Not sure what you complained about with the sound. When you show it on a contraption that gauges the HP as you shift up, what do you expect to hear when the engine is at 8k rpm ? The rumbling and vibration as you turn the ignition is unique... Definately not a drive daily car, unless you're floating in money to keep it maintained. Kinda need to overhaul the entire motorblock every 100k KM and it consumes almost as much oil as gas cause it just always leaking somewhere. The most stock problems imo are the sound noise from the mirrors at higher speeds, and the issue with rear drive while the weight of the car is in the front making it basically undrivable on snow. Oh and the stock soundsystem is a complete joke. When i showed the original loudspeaker (5W) to the guy at the car shack, he wanted to buy it off me just to show his buddies what kind of shit was built into cars late 80's as stock.
me: listening to him say this is not a daily drive car and don’t buy as a first car also me: bought mk3 supra as first car at 16 and drives it as my daily
Ima go for it. I always wanted a fc or fd rx7 but I can't daily it. so ima use that money and all in on a good condition a70. It has the same fc vibe to me, and its gonna be a nice daily drive car. I just wish there is a bigger after market support.
Fantastic vid man. These are project cars no matter how you buy them. I got an 88' NA Auto last year for $8,000, it's a garage baby and the engine stuff is taken care of. Even so I've spent $11K since then just on basic fixes/custom LED conversion/fiberglass rear window panels (as seen in the video) and redoing the brakes/wheels/tires/suspension/brakes/rotors etc etc. The car is straight up phenomenal, it's just perfect in almost everyway except for the raw engine power (still good) and the heavy weight. Not giving mine up ever. I do DD it when I want.
@@nicko9725 Eh, mine was a bit of an outlier. Was 115K miles when I bought it, but the paint and interior were perfect (of course even a month after I bought it sitting in the sun, all three bumpers started fading/peeling so they all need to be re-sprayed) And the headgasket and valves were all taken care of. Plus it was all stock with rare stock wheels. Frankly it's rare enough to find one in really good shape like this. The guy I bought it off was a car nut and his wife had one too. When you really get into the MK3, you know that very few are nicely kept so in my mind at least it's worth it. Would have been cool to get one back when they were almost worthless though lol. Turbos are 12-13K minimum.

Sounds like a good time to cash out as I really don’t have interest in them any longer.
@@nicko9725 I cannot imagine owning this car and losing passion for it. But you're dead wrong on the time to cash out. I probably ruined any value in mine with the custom stuff, but it accents the way it came stock, plus I love quarter windows louvers. Hope you hold on to yours for a while, these babies are only just now ramping up.
I don't know where your from but I'm from the U.S.A and the 1JZ-GTE engine was never offer for the U.S market in the MK3 unless I'm tripping, but for what I know the 1Jz was never offer for the export market and was only offer for the Japanese market. Got quite a few things wrong about these cars. They never have major issues weird speedo or ps issues. Just basic maintenance. It does take alot to put and keep these cars on the road. As long as the head is properly torqued to 72 ft pounds (stock) or 80 ft pounds with metal head gasket and arp head studs these things run forever and make great power all the way up to 6-700 hp stock block if tuned right. And these cars actually handle better than mk4 supras. All in all a great car just have to know what to do with them
Yeah, putting new tires, fortune 500 coilovers and a beefy whiteline front swaybar on mine, it's the best handling car I've ever driven. It's huge and heavy as hell, but still whips it out. Not sure if it's because of the RWD, but the steering is so effortless and light compared to every FWD car I've owned, including my 01' Celica.
I'll probably catch a lot of flack for this comment but I think it's a perfect candidate for the 3sgte swap you could lighten it get a healthy five 600 horsepower even have room up front for a v-mount keep things cool and it would be really different all the famous big name mark for Supras that people played in video games that made them famous didn't use the 2jz's look at jgtc they all ran 4 cylinders 3s GT e beans engines

The 88 is sitting in a storage unit. I love the cars. You forgot to mention they have the 80s colors inside. My 89 is a maroon type of brown color. The 88 is blue. Bright friggin blue. Aside from that, head gasket issues on them. Lately people been selling em like their gold without them running. Also, anyone know where those three Supras in the vid are? The only rust is on the passenger door the size of a silver dollar, and 0 rust anywhere else. It only needs a rear hach glass and a passenger side taillight. I'm looking to sell it but I don't know how much I should be asking?
A lot, depending on how nice it is. We're talking 12K bottom floor unless something is wrong or the body sucks. I've put so much into my 7M-GE that anything I sold it for would be a loss.
