- Is the Toyota Supra Turbo Mark III or Mk3 or 86.5-93(?) third gen Toyota Supra Turbo a "cope car"? Is this Toyota Supra only driven by the weak who only truly yearn for the mk4 jellybean? Or does this hefty grand touring turbo stand on its own?

I own a mk3 supra, and I have not regretted it. Currently getting rebuilt but it is by far the best handling car I have ever owned

Personally I think the Mk3 is a better looking car and it has pop up headlights too.
I think the Mk4 is overall a better looking car, but the Mk3 looks *damn good* in that bright red.

I have a clean 1989 mk3 and personally it’s been my dream car since I was ten. Ten year old me just didn’t like the mk4 as much
I bought an 89 supra, the 2.5 twin turbo. Needs work since the previous owner didn't exactly take care of it but it's immaculate. No rust on the frame whatsoever. Only a small bit of rust on the quarter panel. Wasn't even the car I really wanted but it had the power train I was looking for. I love the car so much, going to school for body repair and paint so I'm glad I get to do all the work myself. Loving this thing. Soon to be getting a whole new suspension setup and general quality of life things. Doesn't have AC so I'm trying to source an AC unit for the car.

After owning one in a manual (an R1 mind you), even one that was bought with just the seals blown on a new engine? Shit always breaks man. I've sunk just under 5 grand into the car fixing problems that the previous owner neglected to fix. Granted, if I didn't have such a negligent previous owner? I wouldn't have the headache but still. Owning a supra doesn't come without deep pockets if you know what I mean hahaha

Yeeaaah the price on these has a lot of context to it. The cheaper they are, the more likely you have a lot of stuff to replace or problems.
You buy one of these babys to take care of and enjoy it and they often need quite a bit, ESPECIALLY if you want to modernize with LEDs and wheels/suspension etc.

80s Japan knew how to make a good GT car, FC RX7, MK3 Supra, Z31 300ZX, honestly the Starion with those borderline chrysler cordoba seats. I kinda prefer 80s JP stuff to 90s just because of how nice a lot of it was when new.
I don’t believe the A70 is a “cope car” for the A80, in the same sense as I don’t believe the FC RX-7 is a “cope car” for the FD; both cars are equally unique and have their own features that make them attractive. I think calling either a “cope car” just makes no sense

Mk2 is my favorite supra especially low on some nice 15s . But I'd still have mk3 over a mk4

The NA 7M-GE Supra made 200 hp, the 7M-GTE made 232, and the 1J made 276. Honestly, the NA Supra with 200 hp would still be a fun car. To me, a turbo is another failure point, and I love the response of NA power. Totally my kind of car.

You seem to get a lot of cars in the Chicago area, if I've learned anything buying shitboxes, never buy a car from Cicero Il. I've had on 3 different occasions, the person clear the codes before I see the car, and the CEL always came back before I was done driving it.
the MA70 is honestly one of my favorite cars. My dad owned one and was gonna get passed down to me but it was just endless hassle as it had cracks in the head. as well as other major issues. he planned to repair it but age caught up with him.
also the car almost killed him when it fell on him and nobody was home. so that was funny. I never drove it but I did technically drive it down a hill with no power or power steering perfectly onto a ramp for a car carrier so that was the most horrifying experience of my life.
oh uh, yeah I'm tempted to get one because I just have a lot of memories of this car, not all good but I feel like it's a sentimental value of just me going out and buying one.

I used to have an S13 coupe and I do love clean ones, but I'd take that Yugo all day at 5k over that pile of trash S13 on FB marketplace. The Yugo honestly is pretty sick and is probably easy af to work on too.
The mk3 Supra is an awesome cruiser from the 80's. Even the non-turbo car is fun to drive, and the stock turbo version does 0-60 in 6,3 seconds so pretty sweet if you ask me. Also I'm more of a fan of the late 80's styling of cars with very simple, sharp lines and a more boxy look. People can jerk off and drool all over the mk4, that means the mk3 will actually stay relatively cheap. Then again, the one asking 12,5 grand for an automatic NA mk3 is definitely smoking some and thinking he/she can ride the wave of the mk4 hype

I only consider it a cope car in that its not a sleeper Cressida with similar parts, but on the used market buying something like that is usually a ticking time bomb, anyone who built that properly is likely to have used every last drop of it before parting.
But i think considering on prices anything remotely similar, Mk IVs, old BMW 6-series, take your pick, its really not a bad buy if in good condition, 7Ms can legit.

A chassis like a tank. A 8 inch LSd diff that will take pretty much anything you'd like to throw at it under a 1000 Hp, a 5 speed transmission that will hold 600+ WHP all day long(much more if you don't hard launch too often), and the easiest car on the planet to swap a 2jz outside of any 2z purpose built car, and there is complaining about 10K? Ditch the &M , or not, and you have a solid RWD good looking, targa roof option car. Show me a RWD platform for 10K that's better? Hint , nothing from nissan.

The A80 is incredibly overpriced for what you get nowadays... A A70 with the right specs I.E R154 gearbox and 7M-GTE with replaced oil line between pump and block, steel headgasket and ARP headstuds and clean condition like mine will sell for about 12,000 dollars easy here in Sweden. Seems like they aren't that appreciated in America and with many of them being auto N/A

The Mk3 Supra is my favorite looking Supra, but to say it's the best Supra is a cope through and through.
IMO the styling is perfecto despite it being a lil thicc weighted.

Do not put the Turbo MK3 variants in this discussion. The car is a legend and a Great Grand Touring Sport Coupe that has that 80s appeal and if you have a stick version you should not let them go for less then 20000. The 1JZGTE with the R154 Transmissons should not go for less then 30000 the 1JZGTE engine alone is 5800 dollars plus the R154 Transmission prices today at 6500. Your talking about 13000 just for engine and trans swaps for the 1JZGTE and R154 Transmissions. Plus the car has that 80s Appeal which in my Opnion is way F cooler then then the MK4 bubble butt
