In my experience, the mk3 is far from forgotten. Everytime I drive my MK3, I have people waving, thumbs up or starting a conversation about how they had one and loved it. Men/women in their late 50’s and 60’s reminiscing to me about their ownership of the car.
@@yotaripI agree, I get the same reactions. I think the Mk3 is a much more relatable vehicle to many because there were so many produced and they were so much more affordable versus the Mk4
The Mk3 has been overlooked for so long. They have been gaining popularity the part few years though. When i drove mine to highschool in 2016 it felt like nobody liked them.
The MK3 was pretty badass when it came out. You could always tell one at night by the headlights. Pretty much nothing else was that wide and that low I'm an import guy from before imports were cool. Bought my 1st MK1 MR2 in 1990. By the time the import scene exploded, mid '90s or so, there were plenty of MK3 Supras in the mags making pretty big power
@@HeyMK3Guy I dailied a MK1 for like 20 years and close to a half million miles. Sold my last one in 2015 before going to Afghanistan for work. Hoping to get a MK2/2GR soon
My mk3 should be done in about a month, after 6! I can't wait to truly experience it and drive it for the first time. Basically it will be a built engine and transmission, but I will be running it stock for a while. Awesome video man, love watching vids on this car, gives me so much inspiration.
And the timing controller was the Apex’i ITC (ignition timing controller), I was really into the MA71 chassis for almost a decade! I miss my red 91 and white 89, really into the content man!
1000 WHP on a stock 7m head and cam is a very steep claim, honestly don't see how that's even physically possible even with dyno proof. lol I just don't see how they can physically push that much air given the factory cam size and exhaust ports.
@@orbital_sx9518 I'm going to look into it some more! I knew there was a different controller with dials for the timing but couldn't think of the name of it lol
@@Billy_Built it’s in the old Supramania archives, either the build section or dyno section but he was the first to get there and maybe 3 more made it aswell. I had an older co-worker who told me her husband's favorite car of all time was his MK3 Turbo. He regretted selling it. Mind you, this is a wealthy guy with a GT500 in his garage. Values are going up on MK3's. I bought my mostly clean '89 turbo in '21 for $10k. Similar cars now are around $17k. It's a great platform and a regular guy can afford a drivable one.
They stopped making a 7m car in Japan once the 1jz came out. So the 7MGTE was only 86.5-89 in Japan. Also yes Japan had a narrow body(fenders) version while we got the wide body. Also the narrow body came with 15" steelies with hubcaps instead of the 16s which were on the wide body.
I have a '91 GE that I'm gonna be tearing down completely and doing a bottom to top rebuild, swapping in a 1UZ-FE. It's gonna be a very long term build, but I'm super excited.
That’s for sure, mine mk3 had major overheating issues, had new head gasket installed. Had to run the heat in 90 degree weather to prevent it from boiling over. Amidst all that it’s still a nostalgic car for me. Prob won’t own one again, but love looking at them. Then I punished myself more and got a z32 lol
Hah! Bought my mk3 for 30th birthday present for myself. 1990 like I am too, now we both turn 34 in a couple of weeks. It was my dream car ever since I was a kid playing Gran Turismo on PS1 and black mk3 was always the first car I bought because I didn't have a memory card for saving 😂😂😂
I may be bias because an owned a 86.5, but I like the emblem on the early years better than the Toyota symbol. Was red origami crane I think. Don’t quote me, that was 26 yrs ago lol

Hell yea couple buddys of mine had mk3s around 2010ish, both gte cars, they were heavy but super fun to drive
Yes they are!
Love them since 1992… mk2-mk3. I’m building my pleasure 1990 mk3 now.

Yeah she's a lil bit of a smoker at times.
The cloth seats are beautifully designed. I remember the seats being very comfortable 25-years ago.
I think so too!

i had the white on white targa turbo.. loved that car.. sold it to fund my hike of the AT that engine felt so good
Can't imagine hiking that thing.. Definitely one smooth running engine!
Good video, great to see Eli showing off. A few of us OGs still lingering around. 🤙
Great to have some OG's hopping on here !

Xman on SupraMania had the record for along time of 1000whp on a stock bottom end and top end. It only had a stopper headgasket and ARP head studs.
