Christopher Reeve: Superman interview with Jimmy Carter

  • One of the most difficult series of interviews for me to watch....He was such a joyful, full of life ,nice person to work with.....What a loss....in case you never knew him...this interview will help you get a feel for him.....
Christopher D'Olier Reeve[1] (September 25, 1952 - October 10, 2004) was an American actor, director, producer, and writer. He established himself early as a Juilliard-trained stage actor before portraying Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent in four films, from 1978 to 1987.
On May 27 1995, Christopher Reeve was paralyzed in an accident during the cross country portion of an Eventing competition. He was confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
Although Reeve was tall enough for the role and had the blue eyes and handsome features, his physique was slim. He refused to wear fake muscles under the suit, and instead went through an intense two-month training regimen supervised by former British weightlifting champion David Prowse, the man under the Darth Vader suit in the Star Wars films. The film grossed $300,218,018 worldwide (unadjusted for inflation).[30] Reeve received positive reviews for his performance:
"Christopher Reeve's entire performance is a delight. Ridiculously good-looking, with a face as sharp and strong as an ax blade, his bumbling, fumbling Clark Kent and omnipotent Superman are simply two styles of gallantry and innocence." - Newsweek
"Christopher Reeve has become an instant international star on the basis of his first major movie role, that of Clark Kent/Superman. Film reviewers - regardless of their opinion of the film - have been almost unanimous in their praise of Reeve's dual portrayal. He is utterly convincing as he switches back and forth between personae." - Starlog
Won a BAFTA Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer to Leading Film Roles.
Reeve used his newfound celebrity for good causes. Through the Make-a-Wish Foundation, he visited terminally-ill children. He joined the Board of Directors for the worldwide charity Save the Children. In 1979, He served as a track and field coach at the Special Olympics...
Such a loss....died at age 52 of complications caused by a horse accident.

I saw him once in NY. He was in a cab next to me and my friend. He was laughing at how we were freaking out. He smiled ear to ear and and waved. We were next to him for a while and he kept looking back and pretending he was hiding his face. We were teens so it was such a thrill.

It's amazing to consider that, when it comes to Superman - Christopher Reeve STILL has never been topped. It's been roughly 25 years since he last played the character, 35 years since he first played the character, and he remains the only one who really 'nailed it.' Others have tried, but no one has eclipsed him yet. Henry Cavill's got his work cut out for him!

He looked me dead in the face and said very serious, " That is the real Superman. " All I could do is cry. since I miss Christopher Reeve and all the lives he touched. This is coming from a 6 yr old who loves Transformers. Lol. I asked him who told you that. He said," nobody. He went on to say that cartoon Superman is a cartoon but he pointed to my shirt of Christopher Reeve as Superman and told me that is the real Superman ! Wow out of the mouth of babes!

Amen to all you've said and totally agree and I too loved watching Superman as a little girl in the 80's and he was my superhero then and still is even after his death and now in 2023. He was so lovely in real life and just seen a RUclips clip of Chris at tge Oscars after his accident and to me he was still my Super Man!He was kind, humble, and so lovely and it's so sad how his life ended but I thank God I lived to watch Superman and the sequels and no modern ones come close to Christopher Reeve. He was the entire embodiment of a true hero to me. His stage presence, in his role, charisma, gentlemanly, quirky, so sweet and cute as Clark and so lovable. He lit up the screen and even aged 45 years old in 2023 I still love them epic scenes and especially when ge saves Lois Lane the very first time. Yep still think it was epic when Lous'ss helicopter on the daily planet rood and that stunning John Williams' piece called Superman as Superman flies up to save Lois and the the crown on the ground all cheer and even louder when Superman even saves the helicopter oh boy I have watched the scenes over the year's many times but oh boy I still get goosebumps all these many years later. Being an 80's kid really was the best! It's sad Louis Lane aka Margot Kidder passed, a few year's ago. My first ever Lois Lane from Superman starring Christopher Reeve, and Margot Kidder. I'd always wondered why we'd not seen much of her in Superman 3 and 4 and learn't she'd been battlng a serious condition, I'd so have loved to have met her. She kit up the screen and she too, I feel can never be replaced. They sure don't make movies like they used to. Back then we didn't have CGI, because it was much more realistic. CGI ruins it. In Hulk it looks really computer generated when hulks jumping. In all the Superman and the Helen Slater stint and movie as Supergirl, that too was epic on screen visually because CGI wasn't used. Too much CGI makes films look slightly like computer games and less real. As for these film's it would be amazing to give them more recognition. Does anybody know if Christopher Reeve is on the Hollywood Walk If Fame?

Robert Downey jr, is a bolder person, awesome but outspoken. It's also why chris Evans makes a good Cpt America, because of his genuine humble nature

So this is a promotional interview for Superman IV. So this was around 86-87. He seemed like such an easygoing guy. A humble guy too. If I looked like him, I tell you, I'd probably be in love with myself lol. No joke. He's 6'4, chiseled features, and I'm just comfortable enough with my sexuality to admit these things freely about this guy. Most women I know, even some lady members of my family, would go for this guy hands down. I just am grateful he was such a humble guy who made Superman such an iconic role. Though Part IV sucked, he made it watchable. Bless him.

Brandon Routh is actually A Christopher Reeves clone. Every move he made is just like the original Christopher Reeves.

Wow. Extremely handsome and thoughtful. I admire his honesty, particularly about Superman III. I don't think actors now would dare be so honest.
I also rather like what he said about the part playing the actor. I think the same could be true of many arts other than acting, such as music or dance. I'll be thinking about that when I next play a song.

Why shouldn't you say such things? It's just the simple truth. In fact, it's better than not saying it and allowing people like this to be forgotten.

0: 12 , I know why Christopher Reeve did that ! ..And because my little brother used to do the same thing, which I couldn't understand why back then, until I underwent a nasal surgery myself and ended up doing the same thing and much much worst for many years to come, and then I finally understand it was because of an air bag pocket forming near the inside region of the nasal structure coRnets responsible for it. And because my little brother had a surgery to remove some kind of airbag forming inside of his troth at a very young age,
this must has caused it to move upward near the region of the eyes and that alone would cause that tick.(and probably Chris reeve had the same type of surgery at some point of his life)
As for me it was because of a doctor by the name of Gilles Beauregard who must have done his own little experimentation on me, by displacing some soft skins inside of my right nostril and caused my Lacrimal pouch and inside eyelids to completely sink down out of its place and caused me and unbearable discomfort for decades and up to this day
and his reason must have been to cover up a few mistake done by some of those incompetent surgeons that we have here in Montreal Quebec. And this unbearable discomfort had cause me to stop lots activities ever since. things I was very very good at, such as becoming a professional bodybuilder which I started training for since I was barely 13 and also I used to be a very gifted artist in many many other domains.
all of this was ruined because of doctors such as Gilles Beaureagard, Jeffrey Khoury and a few others including their president back then which I can't remember the name but was involved in the death of Micheline Charest, one of the co-founder of Cinar Animation.

What tragic life this man had. I remember seeing Superman, back in '80. As a boy you are jealous of all his power, height, etc. Later you start to realize how hard the life of the human behind this Superman has been. Thanks for this vid.

Arguably the greatest performance in the history of superman films particularly parts 1 and 2 . It deserved an Oscar. His gentle touch, his simple demeanor, and his way as an actor to make you really believe he's here to save the day like the scene with the helicopter saving Lois lane. Then she says "who are you" he replies" a friend " just brilliant that part made you believe thier is a superman out thier.
