@@omaralfar1666 Cavill never managed to play Clark Kent and you couldn't spot the difference between Superman and Clark Kent in his potrayal, simple as that... Reeve is brilliant everywhere when it comes to both characters and their differences... Nobody will be better than Reeve.
The best Superman of all times ! Christopher Reeve was a beautiful human being , it shows . Henri Cavill is a deeply " human" Superman as well .He is the only other "Superman actor" to do justice to Chris Reeve' s portrayal
Brandon Routh also did a pretty good job in honor to Christopher Reeve but noone can play superman or Clark Kent better than reeves cause he just born to be superman
Great actor, and quite bright too, I mean he had an intellectual side to him that few actors have today, especially at such a young age too. Reeve wasn't even 30 in this interview, yet he spoke with the erudition of a 60 year old college professor or something like that, and keep in mind, this was before the internet too, so knowledge wasn't as easily accessible back then. Not saying Christopher Reeve was an intellectual giant, but you can tell that this guy was more than just a good-looking actor. He could play the piano and was even a pilot, and played a pilot too in The Aviator, and because he was a pilot, he also knew a lot about flight and that's also why he was perfect for Superman, because he really understood how to make Superman's flying so much more believable and realistic, than say, John Travolta or Arnold Schwarzenegger would be capable of. He's so far also the tallest Superman. No Superman actor comes even close to Christopher Reeve, and I don't think any Superman actor will ever be as perfect for the role as Reeve was. Christopher Reeve really set the benchmark standard for all Superman actors, and he actually made Superman into a serious superhero action star, that could be taken seriously, from what used to be sort of a caricature comic book character that was similar to Popeye or Tarzan, I mean just look at Adam West's Batman or the George Reeves' Superman, to get an idea of what a clown show the superhero genre was. All post-Reeve Superman actors owe a great deal to Christopher Reeve that they were given a career boost by playing Superman and are part of a legacy, similar to being a James Bond actor, and not just Superman actors, but the superhero genre in general (Avengers and so on). If there ever was a man born to play Superman, it was Christopher Reeve; he was destined to become Superman on the silver screen. This is not true for all Superman actors, and some of them in that role, are a misunderstanding, like Brandon Routh. And Christopher Reeve was a great man too, kind, humble, good role model even when not playing Superman; all around a "swell" guy ;)
I think you hit it on the head. Not only was he physically perfect for the role and played the role with the right balance of earnestness, humility and optimism, but Reeve also gave off intellectual vibes through how he speaks, his mannerisms, his facial expressions. This is a man who, if you met him, you would just feel like this guy is nobility. Not in the sense of being an arrogant aristocrat, but in the way he carries himself that makes you feel his is of high character. And for the role Superman, that's quite important because otherwise you are just a good looking man with big muscles (which is how I see Henry Cavill). He has the looks, the build (although he's too short, to be honest), but what he really lacks is the high character that Reeve has in spades. And we saw after his injury that this high character was authentic. It wasn't just an affected facade coming out of good schooling, good parenting (although that's part of it), it's also from just innate character, We are just super lucky that the director and producer stumbled on Reeve and had the good judgment to pick him for the role. Everyone else that came after him has failed to even come close to equalling his portrayal. Routh lacked the confidence, ntellectual intensity and quite frankly, the acting chops. I could not even sit through Routh's movie because he looked /sounded like he was reading lines the whole time.
I disagree, with internet is a knowledge advantage to the old days. Yes it is easier to get stuff on the internet, but back then you had to go to the library and spend more time reading and you would see other books that might be of interest. Usually you would read entire books that you might of not read in the first place. So, I think you would be more deeply rounded in subjects verses shallow browsers like the internet. Plus, you would have no cell phone interruptions. Come to think of it, I believe we had a knowledge advantage in the old days. As you can tell by Christopher Reeve's interview, both the interviewer and interviewee were deeper in thought and not just looking for a click bait laugh.

Good interview. Reeve was always such a grounded person. It was very respectable how he didn't pander to the public's desire for how he lived his private life. I had never heard that take on Brando while filming in London in '77, that he was behaving like a "country squire" and "sending up" the crew. Reeve was one of the few actors to have worked with Brando who, even years afterward, didn't go on and on about what an acting legend he was, nor that he was intimidated by Brando's presence.
What a class act. His identity is in his family, not his roles. Acting was his livelihood. No more. Also, the 80s were amazing. We who were young kids and teenagers, were the luckiest to live in that era.
I've never seen this before. Totally different than I expected. A lot of that has to do with the pace of talking, when he answers, he doesn't equivocate at all, he has specific things to say and he says them without any umms and ahhs. It borders on the vibe of stern confidence, and I guess the reason I wasn't expecting this is that I expected him to have mannerisms more like Superman and Clark. Which is a real short changing of his acting ability. So it's quite a privilege to see this side to him, this normal life side to him, it's a lot less mild than I'd imagined.
His warmth his attitude professional classical actor how he approached his work his dedication this is why his Superman has valisimilitide what a lovely man to talk to wish you spoke to him after 3
A really miss Chris, brilliant actor and such a great guy and very down to earth gent. I often wonder what if Chris never got on that horse on a fateful day, would he probably still be with us today? Almost an impossible question although we all know that Christopher Reeve loved horse riding! Sadly life is full of many what if's. Same goes for Margot Kidder who played Louis Lane who sadly passed away in 2018 who was somewhat of an activist upto her lattar years. Really sad to think the duo are no longer with us! One thing is for sure as many of the actor's who've played Superman after Chris will all testify am sure especially Henry Cavill and that is that Christopher was their main motivational on-screen inspiration for this particular kind of role. No doubt extremely difficult it was too to pull it off but as far as cast directing goes am sure Chris would be very pleased by Henry Cavill's portrayal of Clark Kent by bringing the character upto the modern age! But there's one thing we can all say for certainty am sure and that is they could all look upto Christopher (no pun intended) in how best to express the Superman character along with his alter ego Clark Kent! 🕊🕊💜
Pure class. A person I admire and aspire to be like. I read both his books and was amazed by his life. A physical specimen as well, slightly taller than The Rock and Jason Momoa with wide shoulders. He has a presence that not many of the current movie superheroes do. He didn’t need steroids. He was a real super man.
He is really restrained here when talking about Brando. There is an appearance on Letterman from 1982 when he promoted Deathtrap at the time. He didn't have much flattering things to say, thinking Brando was unprofessional. I wish you had interviewed him for Superman III later. I know he strongly disliked the script but did the movie anyway. I wonder why considering how adamant he is here that the writing would need to be good.
i think if he were alive today and hadn't gone through what he did, he would have been an academy award winner actor. his work is masterful, he really was a stellar actor gone too soon.
I love his strength and integrity he will not divulge an inch of any subject matter that doesn’t suit his principles. It’s always amazing to see that the core of someone never changes. He always was an extraordinary human being even before his injury❤
Seeing him here shows just how good his acting in the character parts was. Will never be bettered. 😊👍🏻 Also, love the way he wants to protect the “magic” behind the movie.
I had met Chris Reeve on two separate occasions back in the summers of 1984 and ‘85 at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Without a doubt, he was the NICEST celebrity I’ve ever met. Not a lot of “Class Acts” and gentle souls found in Hollywood. Chris was BOTH. May he and his wife, Dana, ALWAYS Rest In Peace.
“And over the last few years we have heard a lot about something called ‘family values’. And like many of you, I have struggled to figure out what that means. And since my accident, I've found a definition that seems to make sense. I think it means that we're all family. And that we all have value.” - Christopher Reeve, speaking at the Democratic National Convention in 1996. What a Super Man.

They did stay living as a family for 10 years. I think he talked about it being a tough crossroad they lived in England he wanted to go back to ny change his career up. He also talked in his book about he feared marriage b/c both his parents remarried started new families than divorced again. He hit the jackpot w/ dana esp when u consider the accident what a couple. I believe Jane said she fell in love w/ him they stayed great friends. He seems to always keep friends for life. He's such a great guy. Somewhere in time has such a following too. It's hard to believe how young & mature chris is when u watch somewhere in time or superman he was only 24 in superman & 27 in somewhere in time. Robin also said women models even at juliard threw themselves at chris & seems he only had 2 big relationships. Gae then he met dana right away. Interesting u never heard any statements from gae after his accident or his death only given they shared 2 kids. All his kids seem so great. Jane glows about him she named her child after him too.
John thank you for the upload great interview. Out of superman 2 and superman 2 Donner cut i prefer the Donner cut. Yes back then in the 1980's i didn't know that Donner filmed so much of his cut.
I can't believe knowone recognized him as a major celebrity after that first film became a blockbuster. Maybe that was just him being humble. By the time Superman II was released though he had to have started being mobbed by fans and being recognized alot more.

Great comment! Thank you for your thoughts and observations.
How wonderful to see him young and exhibiting a thoughtful character
No the Rock and Jason Momoa are all around the same height as Christopher Reeve. They are all like 6'4 - 6'5.
I love that he wanted to preserve the magic.
Yeah this was before DVDs. The extra features give away every thing now.
That letterman interview surprised me as well.
No, how could someone possibly dislike Marlon Brando? ;D
i think if he were alive today and hadn't gone through what he did, he would have been an academy award winner actor. his work is masterful, he really was a stellar actor gone too soon.
thanks. rare indeed. 1st time watching it. enjoy it very much. love him.
What an intelligent interview reeves was on top of this interview
That's really the key of what he said .. don't rush it .. a mistake that too many people growing up make
I love his strength and integrity he will not divulge an inch of any subject matter that doesn’t suit his principles. It’s always amazing to see that the core of someone never changes. He always was an extraordinary human being even before his injury❤
a beautiful man....
Seeing him here shows just how good his acting in the character parts was. Will never be bettered. 😊👍🏻
Also, love the way he wants to protect the “magic” behind the movie.
Forever Superman !!!
Chris Reeve
I had no idea the terrace scene in Superman was mostly improvised. One of my favorite scenes.
Lois: 'How big are you?...Uh, how tall are you?'
Nobody among actors was more handsome as Chris Reeve. Maybe Marlon Brando. He will always be Superman for me.
amazing, It really looks like a good...."friend"...and his "steak and fudge" recommendations sounds great!!....Godspeed our beloved superman...
Maravillosa entrevista !!!Gracias por enseñárnosla !!! Amo a Christopher Reeve, y verle en material nuevo siempre me encanta !! Gracias !!
Smart talented man. ❤️🕯️
Christopher reeve didn't play superman HE WAS SUPERMAN ! i mean he still is forever
Beautiful interview.
Great interview!!
Very much enjoyed that. Thank you for sharing. A real fan
Thank you so much for this. I teared up. I'm going through a bad time right now. This was sunlight. Thank you dear Sir.
I'm glad Chris was able to brighten your day. Take care.
@billbrock85 Agree....I met him too and he he was exactly as you said. The nicest person and celebrity. He made you feel so at ease
What a find. Great interview. Thanks for the upload !!
“And over the last few years we have heard a lot about something called ‘family values’. And like many of you, I have struggled to figure out what that means. And since my accident, I've found a definition that seems to make sense. I think it means that we're all family. And that we all have value.”
- Christopher Reeve, speaking at the Democratic National Convention in 1996.
What a Super Man.
Christopher Reeve proved it’s ok to be idealistic when you’re also heroic.
The one & only Superman.
Terminator-arnold schwarzenegger
Hulk-lou ferrigno
Rambo- sylvester stallone
Indiana jones- Harrison ford
Superman- christopher reeve
Robocop- peter weller
Beastmaster- marc singer
Batman- michael keaton
Miss him so much.
Somewhere in Time was a lovely movie too. With Jayne Seymour. Beautiful soundtrack.
Btw. What a difference it makes, hairstyle and a SHAVE 😏
Bless you for posting this!!!
He seemed very smart! - Luke
Thank you for sharing this interview of my favorite Superman actor.
I am so inspired and amazed by this and your entire back catalogue of interviews you've done with true stars of movies. Modern Hollywood is so empty and fake compared to the stars of old school Hollywoodland.
Thanks David. Much appreciated.
I like this chillin at home scruffy style, way more like a working actor
I love Christopher
At 2:24 Chris gives the perfect answer to interviewer’s dumb and nonsensical question, as to “how does Super Man fly in the movie?”, he answered by simply saying “No I can’t, it would then ruin the whole movie for everyone”
Perfectly answered!👌💯
I would still love Chris with longer hair and stubble in his face. Nothing kept him from being his genuinely sexy self. That beautiful face . ♥♥♥♥
What a sweet, insightful man. His horrible accident allowed him to show his true character and bravery, but it was there, all along.
If Gae Exton hadn't gotten pregnant, I believe he and Jane Seymour would have lived one of the greatest love stories of our time.
She pregnant twice, but he still did not stay with her… fascinating…
Donner cut is indeed better and almost a completely different movie to the one released.
The Richard Donner Cut is the far superior version of the film, and it's always my go-to choice for when I want to watch Superman II
@@theunknowncommenter725 I will only watch the Donner Cut, i won't watch the 1980 lester cut anymore. i rather watch Brando.
I can't believe knowone recognized him as a major celebrity after that first film became a blockbuster. Maybe that was just him being humble. By the time Superman II was released though he had to have started being mobbed by fans and being recognized alot more.
16:05 "A good actor is never out of work". I agree, if someone was "Typed Casted", it is because they did know how to act. Buddy Epson, did will have playing Jed and Loren Green did will after playing Ben.
Thanks so much for posting!
THE BEST SUPERMAN
