0:11 AirFrance CONCORD on the background. Ahh those good old days.
I used to work on the DC10 series & the MD11 series, miss them!
i love how airports back in those days were dominated by MD-11’s and 747 classics. But now they’re a rare sight.
Yeah now we just got now A bunch of 737’s and dreamliners
My company operates only 747 and MD11s. They make any mechanic and pilot today a damn good one. They're so fuckin hard to work on and parts are rare are harder to come by
There were Concorde's, too.
MD-11s are still in use. Go to Memphis, FedEx has a huge fleet. They we're never a good passenger jet.
When ETOPS 180 came in, that was the beginning of the end of the tris and quads
I worked for AA in 1974 or so. My favorite ride was the DC-10. At that time, AA had a camera that looked out the front, so you could watch on big TV screens the take-offs and landings almost like you were a pilot. Lots of fun!
Richard Shelton Unfortunately the passengers on AA 191 had that camera too.
When that DC-10 crashed after losing an engine on takeoff at O'Hare. The passengers could see their fate. That was the end of the "video takeoff" feature...
Alex Lopez a Mexican airline called Interjet still does that and it’s pretty cool but unnerving to see how much the plane is actually moving
They had those cameras on their 747s as well didn't they?
Had the pleasure of flying on a Finnair MD-11 to Helsinki back in 2004. Great ride.
Erick Figueroa me too dude, JFK to Helsinki
As a current MD11 Capt for UPS, I can attest it’s a great airplane to fly! Automated system controllers and nice flying characteristics make it a joy to fly!
A B always heard the DC-10 and MD-11 referred to as “gentleman’s aircraft” due to how nice it was to fly
I have hundreds of hours on an MD-11 sim. the LSAS system made the handling feel very smooth, like an Airbus or 787 fly by wire. good times.
CaptainSazzman as an Aircraft Mechanic for UPS I completely disagree with you! Haha
@@adashiell1 compared to the jets like the 767 or 747, the MD11 handling feels nicer
MD11 is just so awesome along with the MD80
0:58, Varig, MD-11 and Twin Towers😕
Two Amazing things we lost and will be missed forever
Ohhhhh!!!,Yesssss!!!.Two of the most admired icons on Earth, gone for ever!!!. What a pity!!!!.I was at The Twin Towers shopping in the lobby, just 2 weeks before that horrible 9-11 terrorist attack. But nevere could fly,in a MD-11. :-( !!.
I wish I was born and was an adult when during the 2000s in NY
Swissair...
3 things varig, MD-11, and twin towers
That VARIG md11 at 1:40 is just perfect ❤
So satisfying seeing these beautiful old birds, such magnificent beasts! The pitch attitude on take off & landing is so cool, and that Finnair machine absolutely aced the landing in what was notoriously on of the "tougher" jets to handle.
I'm happy to see brazilian aircrafts on this channel. VARIG and VASP. Thanks JP.
Very welcome Renato!
@@justplanes a Vasp plane with a test registration

The Varig with the Tetra livery, just magnificent
Still amazes me to this day something so big gets into the air and stays there. I love watching these videos.
Twin Towers in the background, may all that were lost on that day find peace..
Frankie Chileman Nice gesture Frankie. Such a sad day for colleagues, family and friends.
I recall flying out of Newark in the late eighties, seeing the top hundred feet or so standing above the low cloud cover has the sun rose behind them. Two perfect stainless steel cubes floating on a bed of clouds. That's something I will always remember and Never Forget.
Timestamp 1:05.
Amen!
0:58 I miss those twins :(
So sad 😔
Never Forgive
me too
It was a different era.
And the best airline of the world, Varig.
VARIG used to have the most beautiful livery with the compass on its tail
Compass rose, not "compass [sic]".
Great video. Airports back those days were so much fun. Full of MD-11 and 747.
The Shamrock MD-11 looked amazing
This a/c was on lease for 3 years to Aer Lingus from World Airways, reg N272WA
Thanks, @@edpatterson2135.
@@edpatterson2135 it wasnt 3 years actually they leased it for 3 months
Keep Calm and love❤ the MD-11😍
One of my favorite flights was on an Aer Lingus MD-11 (leased from World Airways) from SNN to JFK in September 2001.
As far as I know the MD-11 wasn't built in high numbers, but the variety of airlines that operated the type was really amazing. Great video of these operations!
Only 200 built
I miss the md-11

My favorite aircraft. MD-11 has the most awesome startup sound. Was a thrill to push them back on the ramp in its time. Its a shame they disappeared other than cargo.
Beautiful MD-11 at its best
I loved both the MD 11 and the L1011. Especially when the engine on top started to reve up at take off. That low drowning sound would put me to sleep every time.
Stunning video!
It'll always be the DC-10 in my memory.....great bird !
So beautiful yet short loved. The MD-11 was behind of its time.
Truly miss those days. The MD-11 is a great airliner and I enjoyed every flight on it.Landing in Hongkong Kai Tak is still vivid in my mind...felt like sitting in a fighter jet
Beautiful planes, I remember when the last batch came out in the 90's from Long Beach CA.
My First Love. The Mighty DC-10.
Changed my mind on the DC 10/ MD 11. Beautiful bird after all.♥️ Have a blessed Easter you all.
Those were the days, a lot better than the modern aircraft on my opinion..
Why ?
@@peterroe8800 More variation and noisier.
@@peterroe8800 Less fuel efficient, noisier, more variety, simple liveries
Miss these tri-jets
4:05 that touchdown though
Varig was very powerfull. The most beautifull livery, in the most beautifull plane. VARIG, VARIG, VARIG!
Brings back memories of my very first flight on a Philippine Airlines Mc Donnel Douglas DC-10 from Manila to Dhahran via Dubai, June 25, 1991.
That Aer Lingus MD-11 ❤️
The Lufthansa Cargo in this video is still operating for them :)
Wow
But Lufthansa is looking to retire them sadly😩😩😩
Carlos yes maybe in the next 5 years but to be honest I like the 777 even more because of its ge90s
FedEx and UPS won't be retiring them for a looong time.
At timestamp 4:43, the tail number/registration can be seen D-ALCB OR D-ALCE.
It is hard for me to definitively identify the last character.
Miss MD-11 and -10
I flew with these beauties when I was a child. Lovely memories. Thanks for this video !
That VASP MD-11 was the first widebody I ever rode.
Circa '92 I flew LA to Sao Paulo in brand new VASP. My first plane ride. When I returned from Brazil, I got my pilots license : )
I know this video mainly focuses on MD11 but the first minute of this video is amazing with shots of The Concorde and the original WTC in the background Classic!!!
Sooo miss that sound, retirement sucks!!!
THANKS
One of my favorite wide-body jet
I miss the time when I took MD-11 to Helsinki and Amsterdam.
varig and air lingus my favorites on video.
MD-11😍😍😍😍😍
Damn,Very beautiful! I love Md-11 ❤️😍
0:12, love the Concorde in the background!
VASP ❤❤
Good memories!
Such a majestic aircraft! I always noticed it lands in such a high nose attitude....
very nice , i loved MD11n and B747
So happy i got to fly with a Thai MD11 from MEL to BKK once
An Avianca MD'-11 :), I wish it had that beautiful red and white 70s and 80s livery
Great Video, Miss the Tri-Jets :(
Stunning and timeless plane
Had the pleasure of flying on a Thai MD-11, enjoyable experience
I miss DC-10's and MD-11's, as well as the L-1011. They were great aircraft, ive heard nothing but good things from those who flew them.
Back in the day 👍
Worked for Quantem Aviation (Subcontractor for UPS that would do all the ground work at KSLC) and these things would be delayed more than any other plane due to mechanical problems. Also suck to work in because the cargo bay AC never worked when loading or unloading. It felt like a blessing when I got transferred to the A300-600
Can't wait to recreate this in MSFS with the TFDI MD-11
2:41 Wow that was a lot of flare during landing lol
A look into what would have been had McDonnell Douglas’ Execs not sold out and taken Boeing’s money.
0:58 The Twin Towers!!
The most beautiful aircraft of all time.
@The Valenzuelas ok. 1t is the 747. But, my preference is the MD11.
Memories many of them have been scrapped
HYPE PUBG some yeah but a good half became cargo planes
@@151BSSG yep
🔴Avianca MD11 Awesome ✈
Never knew AV had a MD 11..great!!!!
@@roch9940 World Airways leased the Macdonnell Douglas MD-11 (ER) N278WA (msn/ln48746/597) to Avianca Colombia for the peak Holiday Period from Dec.10,1998-Jan 17,1999 for the Bogota - JFK route .
@@alejandrosaninmolina9208 ...thanks for your information my friend! I worked for Avianca the year before and I remember they wet leased a B747 for Christmas! I have nice memories from my time in Avianca. Greetings Alejandro
@@roch9940 Awesome..!! You most be proud of working in that big airline. What was your job in Avianca..
Greetings from Canada🍁
Very nice md11's
Varig Vasp best the best.
Beautiful unique planes, all there is now is twin engines...
VASP & VARIG ❤🇧🇷

VARIG, VARIG, VARIG!
Sweet memories!!
Almost Twenty Years Ago
The good old 20th Century!
Cool
I have not seen Avianca on a MD-11, a lease maybe?
On lease from World Airways, reg N278WA
Reminds me of the handful of AA MD-11s I’d see when I lived near DFW. This was around 9/11, as the airline was already getting rid of them. Always a beautiful sight.
0:58 Coincidence as I was typing this.
what a beauty
Man That Scene From 0:45 to 0:58 with the Varig Md-11 and the Twin Towers is so depressing. 3 amazing things That are gone and I will never be able to experience 😕
Wow !!! an Avianca Colombia MD-11 😀😀😀
Never been on an MD11 but I flew on many NWA DC10s. They're the sexiest aircraft ever built.
Very nice and nostalgic Please send to #md11 👏
AA & DL Md-11s should have been used as LAX-JFK trans continental flagship planes rather than retired because they should be 8-10 years newer than a B767-200 or B757-200 both were 5-10 years old when MD-11 entered service in 1990-1991
@ I agree with you on that one but if you're around the 1970s 1980s you would have seen Trijet domestic flights in the United States. Examples are AA DC-10 ORD-LAX with a notable crash AA191 and UA DC-10 DEN-PHL TWA LGA-MIA
I liked seeing four world airways me-11s in different livery’s
Avianca could put its great corporative livery colors in this wonderful plane...
I went on cal air 1987 my first and only time in a DC 10 🙏
Fortunately most of these planes are still in carco use! :)

4:04 isn’t that the infamous MD11 bounce landing characteristic that caused some accidents?
I was A MD 11 Captain when I worked for FEDEX but after one of the planes crashed before i could even take a picture I stopped working for Fedex and started to Work for swissair
MD-11 could have been a commercial success if they ditched the tail engine, and made wings much longer with much bigger winglets, the third engine really made it uncompetitive against A330, 777 and 767. The airport gate size wingspan limit is 65 meters, but the MD-11 only had a wingspan of 52 meters, that is 13 meters wasted, if the wings were 64.8 meters long with bigger winglets the MD-11 could have been about 10% better fuel economy, and ditching the tail engine would also improve fuel economy by 20%, MD-11 with 2 engines and longer wings with bigger winglets would have been about 25% more fuel efficient and that would have made the MD-11 much more futureproof and more competitive and would have sold 1,000+ units instead of just 200. McDonnell Douglas also might not have went bankrupt if the MD-11 had been a commercial success
Love MD-11
Década de ouro da Varig e Vasp.
I was set to argue whether these aircraft were DC 10-30 or DC10-50 models not MD-11’s but you were right. I’ve flown DC-10’s with LTU, Finnair,, American, United, BA, butnever an MD-11. Delta flying an MD-11 that’s a new one
I miss Varig.
I never got to fly on the MD-11.
Spent MANY hours building then, though.

hai all any one share there experience on MD 11
Councilman Les Wynan same......once in a while though a UPS MD11 lands here and that’s always nice to see.
