I know this is old but, why would they do anything wi0th the MD-11? The company doesn't even exist anymore and hasn't for quite a while. Boeing bought them out, as a favor, when they were in bankruptcy.
+BewareTheIdes I believe Boeing bought them out to be able to continue selling their highly successful military jets such as the C-17 and the F/A-18 hornet so as to make money instead of letting their military rival, Lockheed gain any advantage.
As I have understood, the biggest problems of MD-11 were it's old fashion wing desing (from DC-10) and three engine layout. McDonnell Douglas calculated at the late 1980's that it would be pointless to design a whole new wing because Jet-A1 were so cheap.
Trijets are pricy to maintain and no one makes parts anymore nor MD-11s (boeing made the last one in 2000). By 2021, we can expect all MD-11/MD-10 aircraft to be retired.
@@coconutdreams1238 Meanwhile, I fell in love too. I flew St Marteen to Boston - Continental old livery. Tomorrow I will take Dublin to Boston with add-on airports.
It's a fine airplane. Many of the DC-10s crashes weren't the airplanes fault, but rather improper maintenance. Ground crew checking their work and improper production of spares by secondary contractors, not MD. There were some flaws. Every airplane has them, but they were fixed. And before you hate on the DC-10/MD-11, I'll bet more than one occasion, an MD-11 has gotten that Amazon order to you.
pretty sure the reason for that is so it could travel transatlantic since i believe at the time when it was made, you needed 3 or more engines to cross the atlantic
Nothing to do with the third engine.. Look at the 747-400.. And it was pretty successful. The problem was an inefficient wing and and inefficient engines.
Such an underrated airplane. Sadly it had an insulation wich was lightly flameable. wich brought down the MD11 from Swissair One of my favorite planes though
It’s the same aircraft with lots of different small details, such as a bigger fuselage and the rear engine is higher on the wing (also the vertical stabiliser is smaller)
@@originalpadoru It's hardly a "DC-11". The MD-11 has multiple differences over the DC-10. So much so that it flies under its own type certificate. So, no....it's not a DC-11.
The MD-11 could've been just as successful as the Boeing 747-400 was however McDoodle Air failed to design a wing applicable to a stretched DC-10 which is really what the aircraft was. They just added a modern cockpit and winglets really. The 747-400 was better executed as a new gen 747 than the DC-10.
There were plans to cooperate with Airbus and built the AM-300, basically an MD-11 fuselage with a330/a340 wings. Unfortunately, those wings were to big for the McDonnellDouglas's factory.
Nice looking place but a fucking lemon and a half because MDC was too tight to invest in future development of aircraft. MDC was a shit company and once they merged with Boeing it's been like a cancer..
A great bird. I had the good luck to fly it for 12 years in my 40 year pilot career.
Looking forward to flying the soon to be released Microsoft flight simulator version. Love these airliners.
MD11 junto com os 07, 27,47, 67, 77, são aeronaves fantásticas. Maravilhas da engenharia aeronáutica!
classic video! Love the channel guys! This is great!
Such a shame that MD11 is quitting the aviation stage. It could have been in service if they put more fuel efficient and cleaner engines on it.
I'm doing a C check on one now...it's configured for cargo but it's still an MD-11

e uma grande pena por não darem continuidade a essas Aeronaves! Hoje só de Carga são usados por muitas companhias Aéreas Parabéns.
Love the video!
My cousin Amna is in love with MD-11

Excellent airplane 🛬 🛬 🛬 🛬 now just for cargo ✈️✈️😎🙏🙏
I assume this video was intended for airlines/pilots?
Automatic stability augmentation system sounds like mcas to me.
Dont worry they are different
More like a 777
funny
Man I wish had returned to the mcdonelle douglas company gero
5:15 oh boy :( ....... that aged badly
The insulation installed was incorrect
*cough *cough swissair 111 *cough
Compared to the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, the DC-10/MD-11 is a stove-pipe with wings.
The mistake of MD-11 was the engine on tail. Being a two engine aircraft would not prevent to reach the range goals.

@@fixedon yup ETOPS regulations for transatlantic flight
That was a safety move

Bad wiring too.
The wiring insulation was not at fault of McDD. This was an aftermarket entertainment system put in by SWISSAIR.
dat after-body drag 😮😮😮
That smaller and lighter horizontal stabilizer made this plane a bitch to land.
Not even slightly true. It was very easy to land.
I love this dc 11 plane my favoret

julosx I don’t get it
I think he`s referring to Swiss Air 111 where an MD-11 crashed
It’s okay, plus it’s a different livery, don’t be too sad.

rotate for xplane
tfdi for msfs or P3D
soon !
Have only found the Cargo variant of the Rotate MD11 so far, is there a PAX version too?
Another DC10 just like oldsmobile and Chevrolet 😁😁😁😁😁😁American mentality is crazy
Boeing killed this aircraft
Mcdonald douglas md 11???
it also featured a super flamable insulation.. Swiss 111 .. it was a shitbox airplane
Which was not the aircrafts fault but mainly Swissairs cost cutting choice (and also the misleading information that the insulation was fireproof)
MD-11

Bapakmu heang
Too fast V-ref at final and long enough sorta crash easily after landing however they were The American Beauty.
Wtf?
????
These people are actually proud of the DC 10..A plane responsible for thousands of deaths.
DC 10 was later fixed and it's safety was improved.
Man, that chipper 80s music at the beginning just does not fit.
