Hi everybody. Proud to see that so many people like the documentary I produced together with my DP Wolfgang Raith and editor Joerg Schoemmel for German TV in 2006.
I really enjoyed watching this. Especially the Honolulu to Auckland trip since I live in New Zealand. Next time maybe you can visit us in Wellington...
well, it is quite tiring to carry a suitcase packed with 15-days worth of clothing and stuff up to the aircraft. maybe they brought it with them in their transport to the aircraft. then, the ground staff helped them keep it in one of the cargo holds. i don't know about the MD-11, but on the 747F, the crew check-in bags are usually kept in the bulk cargo area.
1:36 “The slightest bump or scratch could cost the Earth.” Someone please tell me if there’s an individual that’s actually figured out how much the Earth costs.
Most a/c cruise at around Mach 0.8 (80% of the local speed of sound), the local speed of sound decreases as temperature does, so the higher you are the 'faster' you fly, at cruise altitudes Mach 1 will probably only be around 280-300 knots.
Good observation. Lufthansa may have a hub in New Zealand as they were partners with Air New Zealand at that time and switched planes so the previous could be maintained.
Just curious, is this 66 hours non stop ?, is sure for an airliner to work that hard ?, I mean, motors are supposed to take a break or can work continously till reach a limit of hours for a programed inspection / service ?.
Didn't noticed that point. What a small range !!!, I was asking for a 66-hour short range flight and Douglas let me down Seriosly, I noticed the stops and refuelling of corse. I mean if engines and aircraft can cope with this duty cycle, perhaps that is the normal rate of use on every aircraft, just wondering if it's safe, even when landing and making stops engines worked almost the whole 66 hour flight, that pretty much IMHO, just imagine driving you car 66 hours, well, 60
Nice video,,,,I watched it twice and made me to but the PMDG MD11 simulator and start learning about it hopefully i will simulate this around the world trip

Hello everybody, if some of you do understand german a little , the link shows you the same video in better quality, but in german. Both are great, for my point, learning english, in german it just looks better.
My Grand Father was a pilot for British Airways World Cargo out of Stansted and Manchester. He said its the best job in the world and from this video I can tell it is.
that will be determined during your medical examination that determines if you're medically fit to fly. When you enroll at a flight school, you will be referred to a doctor who is certified to check on pilots.
Congratulations to Sven and his team for a wonderful film! It is really good to know what goes on behind the scenes with air cargo. So often I see these planes without any idea of what is inside them, or who is flying them. Also I hope the 3-holers keep flying for years to come; they have such character and make a pleasant change from all the similar-looking twin jets.
Well, Lufthansa Cargo is an own company owned by Lufthansa. LC has own pilots under contract and due to the fact that regular Lufthansa doesn't have MD11s I guess they are cargo-only pilots
No. They're MD-11 type rated. Lufthansa's passenger division has no such aircraft, so these guys almost exclusively fly for the Cargo side until they're rated on another aircraft.
Excellent video - really enjoyed it. Had to laugh at the closed captions @26:14 "bankage has been with with instructor Hitler for half a month now"
Thank you so much...

Good job Sven Herold!
Great documentary. Put in a play list and liked.
I really enjoyed watching this. Especially the Honolulu to Auckland trip since I live in New Zealand. Next time maybe you can visit us in Wellington...
thanks for watching
You are correct. Depending on winds, right around 4.5 hours +/- a few minutes.
It takes under 10 people in Germany to produce world class documentaries, while every where else you need 50? very nice work indeed.
at first i was like meh, this will be a slow doco, but it had me wrong, very cool, thanks for the upload and thanks for makeing it :) yay
The plane looks so cozy inside! That small kitchen and everything!
What an excellant video 5* the commentary was brilliant the whole production was brilliant.
Amazing!
Wonderful job on the end credits LOL
Super video , Thanks
hey never say never.. dont give up on you dream, if its truely what you want, it will come to you. good things come to those who wait.
Thanks!
also they deliver useful items and yes they ave less responsibility. This documentary inspired me to become a cargo pilot

Fantastic!

Hats off to the professionalism of Lufthansa.

Great Video!!!!
Fascinating. Lufthansa looks like a classy outfit.
A long time ago author Arthur hayley foresaw how being a cargo pilot would be much better than a passenger plane instead.
Just curious, is this 66 hours non stop ?, is sure for an airliner to work that hard ?, I mean, motors are supposed to take a break or can work continously till reach a limit of hours for a programed inspection / service ?.
LOL didn't you see the plane on the ground or what?

I think the max range of an MD-11 is about 13 hours :p
38911bytefree well all commercial jets are flying all day, every day. i dont see the problem

Anyone watching in 2021?
Is there more films like this cause I got interested in watching it. I'm bored so I like to watch these kinds of stuff!
true. i noticed that part. But overall ordering things by air for luxury is expensive, so most items are necessary like the surgical instruments
Nice video,,,,I watched it twice and made me to but the PMDG MD11 simulator and start learning about it hopefully i will simulate this around the world trip
very good video

That horse caretaker has a tough job! Respects to the young Lady 👍
thanks. I agree.
yes coming to think of it it makes sense. how would you do 15 days away from home? I didnt know cargo pilots had such a work schedule.
What a fascinating documentary! I thoroughly enjoyed that thank you.

Thank you for uploading!
Its exactly the same licence, ATPL for Captain, ATPL or CPL/IR for FO.
Interesting video.

Well, Lufthansa Cargo is an own company owned by Lufthansa. LC has own pilots under contract and due to the fact that regular Lufthansa doesn't have MD11s I guess they are cargo-only pilots
its free shipping from Ebay
5:42 i ❤️
could it be because it was a cargo flight, making the payload heavier and slowing down the plane? i dont know for sure but a guess.
how can some one dislike this?
Seeing that thumbnail made me think Bill Cowher became a cargo pilot after his NFL career…😂
yeah you're right. its a mix.
welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. The stopover in Australia must have been interesting for you also.
