- Marco and Gloria, an Italian couple in their 20s, moved to London to find work as architects. Only a few months later, they died in the Grenfell Tower fire. Marco's family and friends have written a children's book turning what happened into a fairy tale - but unlike real life, the story has a happy ending.

Made me teary eyed and I don’t cry easily. But losing a kid, it’s undoubtedly a parents worst fear. When I first had my baby and would look down at that tiny, precious face and I’d feel overwhelmed with my love for her and my terror of how incredibly fragile she was. I moved her into the bed with me, up high near my head surrounded by rolled up blankets where I could sleep with my hand on her chest so I could feel her breathing. Her slightest movements would wake me and I’d lay there terrified of something happening to her. I realized I was becoming paralyzed by my fear of and only found a sort of peace by acknowledging that I couldn’t live without her. If something were to happen I decided I’d go with her so she wouldn’t be alone and bc so I could always be with her. It’s morbid but it helped me live with the fear. I adored everything about her first months of life but I was relieved when she passed the age when SIDS was a possibility. Unfortunately the new terror of a mobile baby replaced that previous fear. When I heard a quote that being a parent was existing with your heart walking around living a life outside your own body I completely related. There is nothing like having a child that will fill you with the deepest of loves, the most extreme joy but also unrelenting terror. I feel for that mama so much and hope she’s found some measure of peace.

@middy444 - Callous, nasty, underclass scum are everywhere in Britain; I've just read that Gloria hung up on her final call to her mother as the fire closed in, to spare her from hearing her daughter die - can you imagine that?!
Those utter scumbags who created that Grenfell bonfire with drawings of people screaming for help as a "laugh" should be made to listen to the inquiry testimonies...although lack of empathy is one of the traits of a sociopath, ergo most probably wouldn't care!

In a time gone by, in a land far, far away, when the BBC was a serious news organisation, they would have devoted their time and energies to investigating who was responsible for this terrible tragedy, and highlighting their culpability. But now it seems, fairy-tale picture books have taken the place of hard-nosed journalism, and we are treated to cloying, sentimentalised fluff pieces such as this. I don't know what you'd call it, but it sure as hell isn't journalism.

You probably ignore all the news reports about the black/brown residents and focus on the reports about white residents (of which there were many) because you're racist. Regardless of the victims' race, they were all subjected to the same fate, even those who chose to pay a premium to live there.
My parents came to this country and were forced to live in terrible blocks like this one on estates that the rest of the city and the country look down on. I know first hand how we get treated and that our lives don't matter. That is why they picked the white couple to focus on.
