I'll never forget walking into Sam Goody's in NY and hearing this play when the album came out . How is it possible that music is still so good 40 years later. What an amazing band.
The Allman Brothers Band and this record in particular will ALWAYS be relevant and loved by millions! The fact that these 5 men happened to come together and make music in the 60s/70s is nothing short of a miracle, imo! Jaimoe, Butch Trucks, Berry Oakley, and Greg Allman are probably the most solid foundation of any band ever but... The high-contrast combination of Duane Allman and Dickey Betts guitar playing is (what I consider) best two guitar players have sounded together in the ENTIRE history of the instrument!! What makes the music timeless is that it was NEW! The Allman Brothers Band literally created American Southern Rock and with Duane Allman's slide playing, changed the landscape of American music forever! Tho there is plenty of terrific music being made today, COMMERCIAL music is a pretty terrible (with a few exceptions). I believe the reason no contemporary acts will ever reach these heights is because after the birth of Grunge in the 90s... No subsequent generation has created its own, distinct variation of Rock n Roll!! With no advancement in the genre, bands are easily forgotten!
One of Dickey's best solos ever. A perfect lead up to Duane's smoking slide guitar. It doesn't get any better than this. Everything about this song is Musical Perfection!
This is a great solo from Betts but, imo, Dickey's 2nd solo in 'You Don't Love Me' off this record is not only HIS best solo ever but possibly the very best guitar solo ever recorded!! I absolutely love Duane's slide in this tune too! When I started playing slide, my main concern was nailing Statesboro Blues (the gold standard of great slide) but now that I'm proficient, 'Done Somebody Wrong' is prob my favorite slide song to play!!
I absolutely agree! Takes me back to SF Winterland in the 70's (and why my hearing is shot today lol) I always was front and center of the crowd at the stage! OMG I love this song and this band so much!
there are some of the baddest musicians ever! just listen to the crystal clear harp and gutiar licks wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! today, you got nothing!!!!!!!!!!!
This ones for you Big Brother Bart who blasted this album so loud in our 1970s Howard Beach Bedroom, that I could hear it across the room even though you had HEAD PHONES ON...Love you Brother ..In my prayers . Matt NYC
The blues will never die , and even the young players coming up , they all love these tunes too. It's a tradition and an art form that demands respect , there's a great many musicians who believe the greatest songs have all been written .and sure new music is cool too, but it's often variations of those same chord changes from so long ago
I was at this concert in NYC at the Fillmore East around 1970. Elvin Bishop was the opening act; Johnny Winter And with Rick Derringer was the 2nd act and The Allman Bros closed it and it was 7am in morning when we were let out. Also there was a bomb threat after Elvin’s first song and New York City’s finest had us evacuate and later let us in when all clear.
Absolutely one of my favorite recordings of Duane playing slide, right up there with Statesboro Blues. He's "answering back" every line of Gregg's vocals with a slide riff, so cool. Then his solo starting at 3:00 is so freaking amazing, nobody ever played slide like that, before or since. It's just so tragic he was taken away from us so young. I was pissed when I heard the news almost 50 years ago and it still pisses me off today. But that's life. He inspired many, many guitar players like me and that's worth something. I hope he's feeling the love we all have for him.
i was soooo pssed as well ,my brother, but sadly was happy it wasn't the "voice" sorry,it be's like that sometimes..shit. life, does go on,now? we fucking lost that motherfuckng voice bruh,and...I got nothing, but God has givenus tapes BABY!

@@rebel-yell9453 Duane Allman is my favorite guitar player of all time but I'm not a fan of Derek Trucks (tho I love Susan Tedeshi). There's no denying how unbelievably talented Trucks is but (it may sound weird if you don't play guitar yourself) there is something distinctly white about Trucks slide playing. Trucks is missing the soul and the off-the-cuff feel that made Duane's playing so incredible.
Saw Dickie Betts two more times at the Paramount, Seattle after Duane was taken from us. I don't forget. I was fortunate to see The Allman Brothers at Gold Creek Dome before Duane died.
Many great bands out there but at their height they were the best. Fillmore live is their greatest album and the best live album ever. Long live the Allman brothers 4:29
Of course not. There not Duane. Nor will be another Johnny winter... It's not revolution, it's evolution..... My favorite saying Duane said. Hopefully the torch will always burn hot n bright by many generations to come.
