Hello bandy love this video
This is an amazing video! It really brings me back to playing games in silence, which I hardly ever do anymore, so I haven't heard the sounds of the controller in years, and completely forgot about it. This really brought back amazing and satisfying memories!
Job well done bandy
I love this original and unique video! ❤️
Thanks for the first video of 2024
I think for me my favorite controller sounds will always be opening and closing the 3DS. While not be in one of the actual buttons on the controller, I'll never get over it just how satisfying that click felt.
except in the middle of the night when supposed to be asleep...
lol true@@Starlight_Star23
"UMM ACTUALLY the DS, DSi, and the 3DS do have the hinge closing/opening as an input because they respond to it by going to sleep mode whenever the lid is closed or the 2DS's sleep switch is pushed. The GBA SP did not have a sleep mode when its lid was closed." - Massive 🤓, 2024
lmao i hate the sound of the 3ds hinge because it always makes me feel like im gonna break it
@@prettymuchabandonedaccount9141 I said button not input
Interesting thought. I think the only "modern" controller sounds, if you would count these as controllers, that we still recognize today are the mouse and keyboard, as depending on the model they could be super loud, but gives the unique sound.
True
And keyboards and phone screens like my Samsung S22 ultra screen with out HD rumble sounds different to my pixel 3 standard screen... Like It's not a problem at all and I'm sure kids today on the ipad will rember it's sounds as much as we do gamepads...
How did you comment a day ago?

This reminds me of how when movies depict typing, they still use audible click-clacks. I sometimes purposely "over-act" in games to hear more of the click-clacks.
Many people still use mechanical keyboards tho. Especially professionally. They're more accurate, more satisfying and more efficient than rubber dome keyboards
I type incredibly loud because of how fast I type even on a non-mechanical keyboard. It would be hard to find a totally silent keyboard for myself.
The only modern controller sound that I think I'll remember is the D-pad on the Series X controller which has a very distinct click
My mom absolutely loathes the noise of controller buttons. She could hear them several rooms across and end up infuriated by the noise. I even asked once how to make controllers less noisy specifically for her sake. Turns out that companies indirectly heard me, and nowadays the DualShock 4 onwards is basically soundless.
ASMR Bandy is the best Bandy
ASMR Nico is the best Nico
ASMR bandy is the Best ASMR ever
As someone who used a Game Cube controller, I literally just fidget with it even if I don’t have it plugged in. It’s just so satisfying to slam the stick into the edge and hearing the click
same
I too, love edging with the stick
Yes! I did this too lol 😂😂😂
Same with the Wii nunchuck joystick and classic controller joysticks.
Brooo I do this all the time, my top favorite controllers to fidget with are definitely the SNES, N64 and GameCube. I have an addiction to pressing those concave buttons...
I’m mostly familiar with the Gamecube, N64, and Dreamcase controller sounds, I spent the most time playing on these consoles and pressing the buttons has that satisfying clicking sound
The Dreamcast is weird overall. A system that failed, but is loved and supported after its failure
@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 Yeah Dreamcast is weird, but still a good console nonetheless
@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 Because the Dreamcast didn't really deserve to fail, SEGA did things right for the most part. Gamecube and the original Xbox were kinda failures too, and they are great and widely loved today too. All of these consoles just stood in the massive shadow of the juggernaut that was the PS2, which is a bit of a shame.
This video is so unique! The way It's written and the edited is so good, legit one of the best videos I saw in a while. You should do more of these, they feel so special.
Surprising, music is charming so it’s kinda weird to hear this much of a controller
Bandy has now transcended into an ASMRtuber. Can't wait for his mukbang era next
I don't really play games the way described, so I do still hear the sounds of modern controllers, though they are much quieter. More so than the sound though is recognizing controllers by their feel. I don't mean general vibe, but rather the exact amount of wiggle the buttons have and how much pressure is needed across the range. This also serves to make the sounds more memorable as they're caused by the exact same factors. Often the pressure needed to press a button increases over the range before suddenly dropping as when the threshold is reached, also triggering a audible click. Interestingly, my favorite modern controller has unusually smooth triggers. There is no hardware threshold to trigger a button press and the force needed to press it stays very constant until abruptly hitting the end making it stop instantly, with sound coming entirely from the impact. The buttons meanwhile are _very_ sticky are take a lot of force to trigger, but also make a satisfying pop when they do.
The gamecube controller is just...perfect. everything about it is just perfect.
THIS is content. Sometimes it felt like I was the only one who cared about this. It's EXCELLENT to watch a breakdown like this. Thanks a lot!!
3:46 I will always remember "Play the game Nathan"
Powered by monster energy drink
why is sounds of controllers so satisfying lol
All I hear with the GameCube controller noises is wavedashing lol
It's funny that Mario Wonder wasn't mentioned at all. The sound of running across the note blocks when using the joycons was fun.
Myeah, although not all games use it, controller vibration adds a lot to game immersion, and has been a loud feature since long ago. While quieter than most, the HD rumble for the Joycons and Pro Controller is so precise that it can produce different tones, as shown in Mario Wonder as you mentioned, which is a really cool use for that.
Meanwhile my third-party Joycons go NUTS on those noteblocks lmao
Other than the Gamecube controller, the best sound has got to be the fightstick. Hearing the buttons get slammed and the deep and loud movement of the stick is top tier. Its adds punch do the inputs you do more than any other controller.
Now we just need a ranking every controller based on their sounds.
Or you know....10 hours of controller ASMR.
1 of the two.
Ranking sounds great
Bro time travelled to comment
@@aIIax ik I was just being unfunny, if yk me that's a trait
For me personally the PS3 and PS4 controller sounds are so iconic I can think of pressing a button and it makes pretty much the correct sound
The controller sounds filling the sound space instead of the music alone makes this my favorite video of yours!
Never would I have ever expected a 10 minute video on controller sounds and noises, but here I am completely invested
5:16 imo that’s the most iconic controller sound of all time specially the strum bar
Melee and Mario Kart Wii streams wouldn't be complete without the sound of the sticks
Exactly. The sound of classic controller joy sticks is burned into my brain
Thought this was a Thomas Game Docs video from the thumbnail haha
I can relate to this a lot! I played the entire Halo 2 on the Xbox Original when my TV didn't have sound for some reason and the only thing I listen to is the controller sound and the rumble
😆
I always kinda hated the clicking and clacking of the controller it always felt right to play the game with sound on but I gotta say the 3ds circle pad felt so good to fling best controller addition ever
I just watched a video on someone rank the crusty wiimote sounds when you pick a character in super smash bros brawl. Yes. That exists.
This video is very satisfying to watch with the clicky buttons in the background
Now I wish I had clicky buttons on my keyboard ._.
I remember first watching your videos when the mario sunshine episodes for the frustration series came out. Glad ur still posting.
Great video! I personally like when buttons in controllers or (keyboards) make sounds. I just find them so satisfying.
This is probably the most quiet and Zen video you've ever made and it's honestly pretty refreshing
Man imma be watching your RUclips vids probably when I’m 40 chillin retired as fun man
ive played and worked on the same computer for about 6 years now
ive been killing the z, x and arrow keys tremendously, because i tend to push hard when i press them
and i think i got them a lobotomy with pizza tower
0:57 when I turn the Wii Nunchuck stick
I saw the title and thumbnail and my immediate thought was “didn’t the Wii remote have a speaker in it?”
Loving the more experimental content. Genuinely never thought about controller sounds before, usually the feel gets my attention more, but it's a really interesting topic!
i hate sometimes when people press hard on the buttons cause it can sometimes trigger my sensory overload
Wow this was a great and interesting video. I'm very familiar with game controller sounds but mostly the retro ones stand out to me the most more than the modern ones do.
as an arcade stick enjoyer it's crazy how much the noise a controller makes can elevate the experience, the tactile feedback from the clicking they make when you do a motion input and press a button makes you feel in tune with your character, especially because fighting games already design their special move motions to make player input and on-screen actions feel connected, it's a big part of why i enjoy the genre so much
I really liked the nostalgic "everything in the past was better" vibes of this video.
loved this thanks bandy 👊🏻
Asmr: video game buttons edition. By nathaniel bandy
I really liked this alternative style of video! I don't really feel a connection with any controllers myself, but I completely get the sentimentality you might have over them.
I felt like the Wii U gamepad is the final controller with loud button mashing
The best AMSR Video
7:01 I noticed a lot less usage on the a and b button
I'm happy you made this video about button sounds and joy stick sounds.
I have a Switchplate for my Switch. It barely works after 2 weeks, but at least it has Sound.
I don’t have that much of a connection with the sounds of my game controllers, but I do have a connection with the sounds that consoles make when they turn on. I’m not talking about the start up sound on the tv, even though I do have a connection with those sounds too, I’m talking about the sound the game console itself makes. Take the Wii turning on when there isn’t a disc inside. The sound that the disc drive makes is very memorable to me. I also remember the sound the PS2 slim makes when it turns on.
The 360 and PS3 did it best in my opinion. The loud clean "ping" of the PS3 is nostalgic as hell, and its something so cool to hear when you turn a brand new console on for the first time. As for the Xbox 360, I have the Gears of War 3 edition of that makes the distinct sound from the game when you turn it on. It's just *perfect.*
The first bandy video of 2024 🎉🎉
i only use the wii, i always get to hear the sound :)
This is such a cool idea for a video, love that there’s no background music so all the focus is on the controller noises. I know that was probably an obvious choice while making the video but still it’s just a brilliant idea
I’m so happy you made this video the sound of controller clicks and clacks like you say lol , the sound is asmr to me .
Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons still have pretty loud ZL and ZR buttons.
Mechanical gaming keyboards can make a lot of noise, too.
Nothing quite like the GameCube controller sounds :)
I used to love hearing the controller sounds while watching a lets play. It added to the experience
Another thing controllers need again are the ones where it's really colorful, but see-through so you can see all the wires and stuff. THAT'S the stuff I need
They’re such a little novelty
Let's admit it
This is secretly an ASMR Video. Too calm I almost asleep
Very interesting to learn!
Man this is such a cozy video I love it
2:50 - dang, never knew somebody actually liked the speedboard!
It's mostly to know on what's pressed and how it feels
This is why controller asmr needs to exist more
Notice how when you get a new kind of console. Like for example you had a Wii and then got a PlayStation a couple years after. After a couple days of getting used to that new controller, you don’t need to look down to find what button to press. From then on you get used to that. Something I’ve noticed since I got my first console.
The best sound for any controller will always be the joy-cons clicking into the switch, even just the actual sound it makes.
When I play with my switch GameCube controller on my computer, I really make sure to press the button’s and joy sticks loud enough so I can hear it over my ear buds.
To me the wii classic controller sounds
Euphoric and nostalgic
Nathaniel´s first ASMR
Nothing can beat the sound of the GameCube Joystick, just releasing it after pulling it back makes one of the best sounds to my ears
The GameCube controller buttons are just so satisfying to click. It just feels so good!
My fave controller sounds are the 3ds or wiiu the touch screens and buttons though soft yet peaceful and slightly loud or the wii remote sounds from the speaker doing a trick in mario kart or mario galaxy spinning in a launch star or shooting a star bit with the B button so lovely
The sound of the 3DS circle pad brings me back to playing it all the time when I was 8 to 11.
modern arcade sticks/fightsticks can still have some decent volume to them, with their clicky sticks and wide buttons. playing fighting (or other) games on them can feel super satisfying. sometimes i like to use mine on random arcade-style games just to feel immersed, or rhythm games (surprisingly, fightsticks feel really nice for those in my experience, as long as you have all the buttons you need).
I love the sound of the DualShock 3's vibrations!
I like how Bandy’s wearing a Melee Fox shirt for controller sounds.
Props to anyone who gets it
the NES controller sound, my first memories of video games. the sound of the Zapper forever craved into my mind while I was playing Duck Hunt. The one from the PS1 without a joystick which has different sounds than the dualshock version with the iconic sound of motors. all these memories (with those also of the GameBoy Pocket, Color, Advance and Advance SP) make me so nostalgic almost 30 years after starting to play video games. And yes I have no memory of the sounds of the buttons of my 3DS and yet I played it for hours, same for my Nintendo Switch or my controller for PC and Switch.
This is an interesting ASMR video about Game Controller sounds.
I like that not once was there any music
For me personally was the gba when I first got one for my 5th birthday back in 2006, I remember so many late school nights playing it muted hiding underneath my covers lol..
When i used the sega genesis mini controllers, I always adored the whole clicking noises the controllers had
Great video! I kind of ignored controller sounds before, because you can't go wrong with keyboard sounds (typing for a PC)
Pc players are never gonna get tired of the clicks of their keyboard and mouse
Man that squishiness of the start/select button on the NES controller is so nostalgic and hard to replicate.
Only Nathaniel Bandy could come up with a video idea like this :-)
both the game boy advance sp and the original ds are the controllers/consoles that i have the most nostalgia for. between taking them on long car rides and secretly staying up late to play games, i almost never had the sound on (plus the gb sound was… something) so the sound of those buttons, plus the stylus sounds on the ds, scream childhood to me.
The sound I remember the most is the GameCube controller. I had a computer keyboard from the 90s and the keys made a clicking sound when you pressed them.
GameCubes joystick is so satisfying
My only though about modern controller sound is the Xbox series x controller's D-pad who makes a clicking sound but the rest of them I didn't notice really.
Why use the N64 controller when 3rd party controllers last longer than the 1st party offerings? The stick alone makes the N64 controller bad.
Been watching NB since 2013. Ofc I remember the Spirit!
5:25 I love that you mention the strum bar on the Guitar Hero controller. I remember a review of Rock Band from back when it was still relatively new and how the reviewer didn''t like the Rock Band controller as much because the strum bar wasn't clicky like the Guitar Hero one. That strum bar has an iconic sound to me. On the subject of modern controller noises, I couldn't tell you what a DualSense sounds like, but I can kind of tell you what a Joy Con sounds like because of how clicky the buttons are and I can tell you how an Xbox Series controller sounds like since I mainly play single player games on it and the d-pad is very clicky and the sticks aren't the quietest when hitting them as far as they'll go.
loved this one nathan
Sometimes when I'm bored I would grab my controller and just press all the buttons
Thank you for bringing back so much controller nostalgia
On a slightly unrelated note, I love that "Hiyaa" shirt by TerminalMontage and I wish it was still for sale on his store.
I never thought I'd see Guitar Hero and Rock Band representation on a video about video game controller sounds, but those are probably the most iconic sounds in my life. The clickyness of the strumbar and the clacking of the frets to the beat of the music screams "childhood" to me lol
