- I walk through the Jewish Community of Borough Park, Brooklyn during Hanukkah. The streets are lined with various businesses for religious items, clothing stores, toy stores, kosher grocery stores, and bakeries. Many people were outside and about throughout the area. Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a Jewish festival and is observed for eight nights and days.

Wow, this video was like taking a step back in time. So many families out and about pushing strollers, groups of children walking together, old folks shooting the breeze, and a dazzling array of shops. I think it would be wonderful to grow up in this neighborhood. I live in the suburbs and it can be so lonely and isolating; Neighbors don't talk to each other, most of the "mom n pop" stores have closed- The ones that are open are only accessible (safely, that is) by car. And, you rarely see children out playing anymore.
Very true!
I would like to visit Borough Park again. I walked along the edge of it in 1986 and found it fascinating. It was like being in another country.
Sooo many strollers. Obviously a very fruitful bunch. Yes, it's part of their culture.
I love also the walks with no talks, you let the city speak for itself, that’s a huge neighborhood! So nice to see and hear Brooklyn again
I'm happy you enjoyed it!
This is a very vibrant community. Thank you for posting the video!
Hasidic Jews are a branch of Orthodox Judaism that is considered ultra-Orthodox. They tend to interpret the Torah literally and follow charismatic leaders called Rebbes. They believe that piety and devotion are more important than Torah study and religious scholarship. 31:42

Oh! ActionKid! Thank you for acknowledging Chanukah!!! You are such a mensch!!!!!!
🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️
My pleasure
I live in Manhattan, but it was so good to see this area and understand this close community, their shops and bakeries. So heart warming. Thanks ActionKid. You bring the city to our livingrooms.
🕎 Happy Hanukkah friends. Prayers for a sweet holiday season to all 💐
Thank you
Happy and safe
I grew up in West Hampstead London. On Sunday we would walk to Golders Green. It was very much like this area with the little shops and the great bakeries.
Grew up in this area from age 7 n left when I was 16 boy oh boy so many stories and memories from 1989 til 1998 !!! You took me back this morning AK thank you stay safe!!!
Cool
Thanks for sharing
I grew up in Crown Heights not Borough Park --- if u want good food, this would be the area. Happy Hanukkah to all. Thanks AK for showing us so many different areas in NY and California. We may look different - but we're all the same. You're the BEST!!!!!
Thank you very much! I've never had a bad experience in this area.

I grew up in Boro Park, at that time it was a diverse neighborhood of Jewish and Catholic families. There were delis, pizza and falafel restaurants. It was a great place to grow up.
@suzanne perry What happened since, did Italian, Irish and Turkish families moved out, or is it still the same as you grew up?
@@dvchel it is now a Hasidic Jewish neighborhood.
Thank you for doing this particular walk. Loved it.
Glad you loved it
I miss BoroPark Brooklyn i grew up there and i wish i never left. What a good neighborhood it was.
Happy Hanukkah 🕎 from Israel!
Thank you!!
David I am coming for you this is joe from state farm
This was an interesting walk . I like to watch how communities live together , I noticed they have quite a family vibe very kool . Nice to see you out in the suburbs again it show the real NY thanks AK great work .

This is so interesting. I never saw so many strollers and buggies and black clothing. Thanks
It's really a different world in this area!
Thanks for this glimpse of the neighborhood. Nice to see all the families and children. Happy Hannukah to the residents.
You're welcome!
Thanks for making this Hanukkah themed video walk. Just to clarify there weren’t candles during the Temple time but the oil did last for 8 days (instead of one) which was enough to make more oil to continue lighting the Temple Menorah afterwards.
this is a part of what i have always loved about Brooklyn. different worlds
There's so much culture and diversity all throughout Brooklyn!
NYC boroughs are all different. That's why i ❤ NYC. The food the cultures and the people. ❤❤❤❤
Enjoyed this video. Never seen so many children and young people. So beautiful to see. Greetings from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I really enjoyed walking through this neighborhood. Thanks for watching!
As a New Yorker, I love the diversity. Such a shame people can't appreciate each other's differences and educate themselves. 💙🍎

I am having so much fun watching this as a rerun I can't begin to tell you. I forgot for a bit it wasn't me walking through the district. Kudos
Glad you're having fun

I grew up near lakewood nj!! I'm familiar with Sundays in the jewish community.

32:58 I used to live in this building, for one year, including 2000! I used to work in Borough Park, before pandemics.
What a beautiful old school community The streets are so clean the storefronts are so beautiful. So many families walking together. Very similar to how the street I grew up on was when i was child.
Very refreshing to see all God's people beautiful faces mask free and enjoying the fresh air as our God intended for all of humanity my kind of people.
😊
Happy and Blessed New Year Shalom!
I love the music that lingers as your walking around.
The Hasidic ideal is to live a hallowed life, in which even the most mundane action is sanctified. Hasidim live in tightly-knit communities (known as "courts") that are spiritually centered around a dynastic leader known as a rebbe, who combines political and religious authority. 10:50
The number of Hasidim in New York has doubled, from around fifty thousand to over one hundred thousand, in twenty years.

New York Has an Obligation to Secure the Education of Hasidic Children
Making sure that every child in New York has an adequate education is not only a moral obligation. It is necessary to allow those children to fully exercise their rights in our democracy.

Shalom thank you for showing me this video it's amazing how things changed through the years I was brought up and Penn Street and Williamsburg I can't wait to you show me that video it's going to give me so much memory of my childhood 😃 I hope you can show me that video I really will appreciate it thank you and have a blessed day ❤️
I'm from the East side a Penn Street in Williamsburg I haven't seen that area since I was a child
Thats so nice for your to take time to do this, I always enjoy looking how other hasidic people live in NY. I lived in London in the jewish area for many years and this brings memories, thank you!
Wonderful 🏯 Blessings to everyone this holiday🐦
Great walk, especially for those of us who will like never have a chance to go there. Thank you!
So interesting Action Kid, to learn different cultures and religions. Thank you so much for doing that walk and showing us the Jewish community.
Much appreciated! It was very fun and insightful to walk through this neighborhood during Hanukkah.
@@ActionKid I wish u could help me I had a lot of set backs in 2020 I lost 2 jobs I also discovered that I was adopted. I do not have any family and I'm stuck in a homeless shelter which sucks during the holidays

Good video. Happy Chanukah AK!
I grew up in a small town in North Dakota, population was 350...25 kids at my graduation. I can't imagine growing up in the city...no green grass, no trees, no fresh air. It's a different world and I appreciate you sharing it! Be safe!!
I grew up in NY decades ago. The air was fresh at that time --- people have each other and there's lots to do in the city. Orthodox parents love big families - they raise their children well and they're well educated. The children are taught to do a "mitzvah" --- doing for others - giving charity and helping out when needed. Just Be Kind.
Thanks for this walk AK it's definitely different, enjoyed as always I'm addicted to your channel 😊
So interesting! Thank you ActionKid so much for what you do, always!
Hi Action Kid, we just watched this walk and am grateful for you once again. The sounds in particular took me back to my Brooklyn roots. I'm very much looking forward to you hitting some neighborhoods I'm more familiar with and miss. Hints; Brooklyn; Marine Park, Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach - boardwalk. Manhattan, Yorktown, particularly E. 83rd Street 1st - York and then a visit to Gracie Mansion. Thanks for doing this, it's sweet and swell. Your fans from green and quiet Oregon.
So interesting seeing all the different businesses. Thanks AK x
Good info about the history at the beginning of this video! 👍 It was nice to see people out and about in the neighborhood. Thank you for sharing this walk, AK! 🤗 Happy Hanukkah to All who celebrate! 🕎
Thanks!
Ty for this. Happy Holidays ❤️ Tracey and Jon
Hey! Thank you so much for taking us along this walk. I found it very interesting to see :)
You’re the best! Thank you. These videos relax me.
No plans to ever walk through there lol, so it was nice u recorded this walk..good video ak..
Great video!!! thanks for making it.
Cool place to take a stroll through!💫✔️❤️
Thank You very much for sharing this beautiful video!
Jewish Pumpernickel Bread and the baked goods are tasty I would try those if I was there
Don't for the delicious Challahs, Bagels and Jewish Rye. Haven't had pumpernickel in decades.
@@sandyrose2398 I am enjoying your comments! 🙂
@@sandyrose2398 I'm not Jewish however I found out my maternal grandfather was Sicilian and Jews and Arabs are one in the same. I have had Jewish bread but there isn't a large Jewish community in Oregon. I am moving back to Eugene Or.
This area reminds me of the similarly Hasidic area around Bathurst and Lawrence here in Toronto (although that area's not as dense as this one, owing to it being in the sprawl-orientated part of Toronto, North York.)
Love the old traditions! I would go nutz going into the delis and all the bakeries! Happy Holidays!
The best food.
Lived there my whole life thanks nice to see new look and new stores
Thank you, ActionKid 👍
This is very interesting, I didn't how huge the community is. I want to go to the bakeries. I am so jealous, down south we don't have a bakery on every corner. NYC looks like the most diverse interesting place and it's right here in the USA!
The best bakeries - Jews love sweets.
I've had some great food items from this area.
@@sandyrose2398 we do!!!🙂
Yes we are diverse.
Jamaica Queens, Spanish Harlem , Little Haiti, China Town , Flushing Queens is the biggest Asian community in NYC. Russian community at Coney island Brooklyn. Washington Heights Dominican community and its called little Dominican and farther up is spain. Bathgate Bronx little Italy . Middle eastern in Brooklyn and the Bronx. There is a place in the Bronx called Yemen. Corona Queen's is Mexican and the whole south America. Woodlawn Heights is a Irish Community. I ❤❤❤❤my city and i don't care what other people got to say.
Thank you for this informative video!!
I enjoyed this city walk but those horns! LOL I'm spoiled, I moved away from city life years ago so the noise was a change for me. Good video showing the neighborhood. Thank you for sharing this. :)
So interesting and exciting to learn something new !!!
Happy Hannukah! Would be cool to see Brighton Beach some day.
Just a great vlog. Miss the neighborhood and shops.
Interesting walk in Brooklyn. I've never seen so many black puffy jackets in one place. Any particular reason for this?
I was just thinking the same thing
And baby carriages
I think it's their religion which determines the type of clothing they can wear.
Black is worn as a "non color" to not bring attention to self or stand out by wearing bright colorful clothes. Black is also the color of mourning, to remember the destruction of Israel, The Temple . The main stream branches of Judaism will wear secular clothing, ( Orthodox might wear conservative clothing) but this is a Hasidic community, the theology is very different from mainstream Judaism! 🐻❇️
@@karenbuckner1782 No birth control allowed --- that is strictly forbidden in the Orthodox world. That's the reason you will see many young children and babies around Borough Park, which in turn is the reason for so many baby carriages. In the Torah (Old Testament), God commands Adam and Eve to be 'Fruitful and multiply" something that is taken quite literally and seriously by the Orthodox community. I myself am not a Jew but I did work in this neighborhood for over 26 years so I do know my fair share about this unique society and its ways. A reserved but very peaceful people ---- the neighborhood itself is also quite safe though somewhat congested with vehicular traffic (tough to find good parking spots --- best to come by train).
nice and clean neighborhood! Happy Hanukkah 🙏👍thanks for sharing this videoclip!
Here from Lao Oceans utube ( he does walking tours of Seattle) He did a shout out to your channel! I really enjoyed this walk! New subscriber here!❤️
Very interesting thank you
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I LOVE THIS BEAUTIFUL, TRANQUIL NEIGHBORHOOD.
I FEEL THE PEACEFUL ENERGY. PERSONS WALKING WITH KIDS, COUPLES PUSHING STROLLERS --- ALL ABOUT FAMILY. WHAT IS UNIQUE IS THE LACK OF NONSTOP HONKING HORNS, SHOUTING VOICES, RACING CARS, PUSHING THROUGH HEAVY CROWDS. NO
GRAFFITI ON WALLS, NO GARBAGE ON STREETS, NO STRAY DOGS BARKING, NO THIEVES RUNNING OUT OF SHOPS WITH STOLEN GOODS, NOBODY WITH WEAPONS, NO ALCOHOLICS LAYING ON SIDEWALKS, NO IMMODESTLY CLOTHED STREET WALKERS, NO FIGHTING. A VERY, VERY ETHICAL COMMUNITY.
THE ONLY NONSTOP SCREAMING NOICE WAS AN AMBULANCE BY THAT STORE WITH A BIG SIGN SAYING "DRUGS". ALL PERSONS CALMLY
DOING THEIR BUSINESS
IN HARMONY. BEAUTIFUL.
Nice winter walk AK.
Shalom Actionkid! I see you celebrate and respect all the holidays of all the cultures! Would you wish to come to Brighton Beach on 9th of May? (Not sure about the date, but Brighton Beach celebrated WWII victory somewhere in May) and they have their own neighborhood anniversary in August.
It could be an idea!
it us, indeed May 9th, regardless of day of the week. Russian V day ( in Europe it us May 8th). It is the end of Great Patriotic war- part of ww2, June, 22-, 1941- May 9, 1945. in USSR).

very interesting RUclips video, enjoyed it a lot!
Very interesting and entertaining video! Traffic seemed very bad, with impatient honking_ drivers!
Lovely day for a walk
Brooklyn is so beautifully diverse, only here you can walk through three worlds in a matter of a few blocks. If you keep walking down you'll reach the Asian community in Sunset park that later turns into a mini Latin America and even on the opposite side of Borough Park you'll reach the South Asian/Middle eastern Neighborhood in Kensington.
Nah nothing like queens , queens is the most diverse borough
@@niceandflyy I agree with you, I haven't gone to Queens in a while so I'm not really familiar lol

Hi I noticed u were mainly quiet throughout borough Park area, that seems to be Orth odox Jewish people, I couldn't tell are they speaking in Hebrew or English? And where are the kosher deli's ? On every corner or kosher pizza or corner luncheonette s that I remember in NY?
Also where is Borough Park in relationship to flushing where I used to live , if you could tell me.. Thanks
