  • Rabbi Yoni Katz takes us on a journey around his Crown Heights, an area in Brooklyn know for both the growing Hasidic community and their newer hipster locals. Rabbi Yoni has chosen a path to "Unite the Beards", taking anyone who is interested on a guided tour around this often seen as closed part of the neighbourhood.
Rabbi Yoni Katz wants to show the true life and character of this neighbourhood and to bring the communities living there closer. On the tour we were taken to the main synagogue 770 Eastern Parkway as well as to local homes and the main streets, interviewing as we went. The tours are run by himself and his wife and teach the customs and traditions to anyone who wishes to join them to learn about their neighbours.
Take a look at Hasidic Jewish life through the lens of the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement.
Full of Jewish humour and welcome, this video takes you around the neighbourhood.
This was my first trip to the neighbourhood. I met Rabbi Yoni Katz on a windy day. Waiting, I sat watching the locals walk in and out of cafes, their was a huge buzz from the holiday.
RECOLOURED IN 2023 - This is a recoloured version of my original film. Since filming, I have made two further documentaries on the neighbourhood with Yoni.

I used to live in NY and only saw Jewish life from the outside. This is a great door that has opened for non-Jews and it gives my heart joy to see the chosen people safe and free to worship God in their own communities. We still have a long way to go in terms of uniting the faiths but I have hope. Maybe invite some Christian people over to tea with the family. Thanks for showing us around.😄

We have a Hasidic rabbi who came to our Christian Bible Belt city and set up a chabad. I’m not Jewish but my husband is and the rabbi knew he was Jewish and invited him to the chabad. My husband goes once a year but doesn’t want anything else from him. I grew up in a Hasidic neighborhood and we were the only catholic family there. They never talked to us but I would go to their bakery for challah and cookies.

Female rabbis are in the reform Jewish faith. Not in the Hassidic. Like the Christian faith has different sects in their religion. The Jewish faith also has different sects and traditions.

@@geklauteslidlhemd6759that's absolutely untrue. Chasidic Jews are the most kind, welcoming loving people. I attend a Chasidic synagogue, Chabad, and I see it all the time. Our mentality is "A Jew is a Jew, no matter what."
