Jon, I want to thank you so much for this video. It is close to my heart, I grew up here. Even lived here after moving out. 1958-1987. Great neighborhood. The demographics have changed since I moved. Used to be half orthodox/Chassidic and half Italian with a smattering of other cultures thrown in. Being a reform Jew, I associated more with the Italians and most of my friends were. Now over 30 years later I really appreciate the uniqueness of this neighborhood. You can walk the streets any time of day and feel safe .I also . have a better understanding of who I am and have a deep appreciation for the people of Boro Park
Look forward to part 2. Peace

Definitely interesting seeing a guide on Borough Park. I've noticed that Hasidic Jews here in NYC are more traditional and reserved in their values. I'm aware that here and Williamsburg carry the largest Hasidic communities in the country, and I think it's interesting a video has been made here. I might go down to Boro Park to buy a yamaka from Eichler's before Passover starts this year. Can't wait to see Part 2

The ones in South Williamsburg are Satmar Hassidim (actually now divided into two sects) are are probably the most closed to outsiders - which include other Jews who are secular or even "modern orthodox:. They also have a large presence in Rockland County. They particularly dislike anyone who drives through their areas on the Sabbath and on important Jewish Holidays, and people who are not very modestly dressed. Just don't expect them to be as welcoming as the ones in Crown Heights (Lubavitch, which are the most welcoming in my opinion) or the many communities in Boro Park.

I’m a Muslim from Malaysia and I’m not really religious so whenever I travel to non-muslim country i do not strictly observe halal since I want to sample the local cuisines. The last time I went to NYC I was comfortable at eating at Jewish joints since kosher is much stricter than halal. After that experience i can say that i love Jewish food. I am planning to go again to NYC to eat at other boroughs 😋

Diana Yusof, please check this out with your Alim/Moulana, as we cannot make rules as we go along.... all such circumstances are covered in our Ouran * Hadith.... just an advice when you travel or at home you are a Muslim... when u travel is the real test... don't leave ur believe system at and international boarders to puck up on ur return.

Mourning for the One They Pierced 10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

Thank you! Interesting and fun video. That pizza made me really hungry. What are the main sects of Hasidim in Borough Park? I've visited Williamsberg where there are many of the Satmar group and Crown Heights where there are many Lubavitch/Chabad Hasidim.

They also have one of the best hospitals in the city and that is Maimonides.

As a black man born and raised around the Hasidic community I never had a problem with them no kind of interactions but he said something that I experienced most of my life with them and that’s the staring like why the satring this is by a diverse city yes I understand there’s bad apples but there’s ripe ones too and I’m one of the many so if you see me say hi I will say it back oh and I say oy vey when I get frustrated lol

I am sorry you had to deal with that. At least in North America there is this weird idea that Jews never seen POC people within their communities or near them. It's a very racist way of thinking, and many POC Jews face a lot of discrimination in the US at least. I am obv not trying to speak for them but I have definitely seen it with my own two eyes. I remember a family that was POC got judged so badly within the Jewish community I was raised in because of their skin color. (I am glad I left it) The funny thing is, there is a huge amount of African Jews, to Ethiopia, to Morocco and other regions in Northern Africa. They make a good percentage of Israel too which is insane to think that Jews got a problem with them, (Big racism issue in Israel too which is very sad) when they are just the same as us.

I know, bro, I'm an Orthodox Jew from LA and when I was staying with some Hasidic friends in Boro Park people stared at me too. I think cuz I was wearing mismatched earrings and docs. I went on a tirade after to my friends and they were like girl, they stare at everyone in this neighborhood even other Hasidic jews," so dont take it personally friend, tho I get it, its uncomfortable.
