@@TheTruthlady I can imagine!☀️
I really love this neighborhood but I can’t afford it. I am living in Dycker Heights! I am Asian American it is a safe place to live!
@@TheTruthlady I would actually love to make a video like that.
Absolutely fascinating. Every second of it was interesting. Can you make more videos like these? (About other cultures & communities, for example Italian, Mexican, Russian & others....).
Aren’t you yourself Jewish?
Shloime is such a good guy. Genuine honest good man with a good and pure heart.
he sure does knnow his lineage culture and city, its cool to have hi show us around.
I once stayed in an AirBNB that was very close to Boro Park, and I sort of wandered into the heart of that neighborhood by accident. It was like going back in time with the women wearing, dark, conservative clothing and baby strollers everywhere. The people were so friendly, and the shops very clean and inviting. I love to see and feel different cultures and people, and those few days near Boro Park were a happy and welcoming experience for me. I have MAJOR respect for people who preserve their ways of living in today's world.
Thanks for the positive feedback it really means alot❤❤
Shloime is such a great ambassador for his community. He was a star in Peter Santanello's series of RUclips films.
Yep, just simply get along with everyone. Well, not so simple but try...
@@viadharmawheel The wife and I will definitely make a side trip here to visit when we come to New York !!
Raised in Borough Park! Loved my neighbors 🙏🏽
Me too, wish I still lived there..
hi, boro parker here :) Thankyou!
I appreciate this video, as a delivery driver in Jewish neighborhoods this gives a very different perspective and better understanding of the amazing diversity here in New York ! Thank you for this !
Im jealous that you live there! I always wanted to live in NY.
OMMG the deli alone wouk make me visit . i wanna try a pastrami sammich! lol
Shloime is a great guy! So smart, so real, so open.
I loved seeing this community. It looks like a great community. Bens reaction to the burger is awesome!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Read my comments Maria I think it will give you a different perspective
Lack of personal freedom and choices
ur invited for a private tour.
@@marilynringel9228 Behind closed doors, it's a very different situation. It's a very closed minded and misogynistic community.
@@fredsmith6401Stop spreading hate.If you know anything about Jewish women you know that nobody tells them what to do. Jewish women don't take crap from anyone least of all their husbands. In terms of being closed minded, they don't wan't much of the outside world to influence their culture and families. This isn't a cult and if they didn't want to live that lifestyle they could leave once they become adults.
This important video needs to get a LOT more attention than it will get. Great job to you both!!
I am absolutely fascinated by the Hasidic community. You don't see Hasidim in the South, so they are very exotic and foreign to me. I really enjoyed this video and I would love to see more videos from this community. Hopped over and gave Shloime a Subscribe, too.
Thanks 🙏🏻 Teresa for the early patreon comment. Yes 🙌🏼, a lot of special communities in nyc

As someone living in the community, I have to say I really value and appreciate such videos!! Just so positive and showing the world what the community is about!! It’s really so pleasant to see such nice comments out there!! More love and less hate!!!
It’s nice to see so much love for us out there!! I don’t think u come across that often!!!
LOVED this! One of my childhood friends married into a Hasidic family and lives in Borough Park, so I'm familiar with a lot of these places. Amazing food and very friendly, kind people (btw I'm Catholic).
Great content, that always has me learning something new, even though I'm a Native New Yorker. 😊
I wish there were these videos 15 years ago! Those restaurants look amazing!
My favorite guy ! Schloime ! You have a kind hearted man and with wonderful soul right there with you ! Great video sir! Love the background music!
Seriously. This video is beautiful. We need more barrier breaking in the world. Hate is misunderstanding. We need to understand one another to move society forward.
The way Hasidism is practiced today is very different than it was practiced by its founder the Baal Shem Tov
Today much more lack of personal freedomnand choice
Very fundementalist and rabbinic based
There is very little personal freedom or choice
It is set up this way as control
You are expected to marry young and have large families
You cannot just go off and go to school _,get a job/apt.
You get married after approx 2-4 meetings
There is no dating people are introduced for purpose of marriage
There is no expectation of love it is believed it happens over time after marriage
If wife wants a divorce the husband has to be willing to give a "get" and if he does not she cannot remarry
Very strict modesty dress rules-if you deviate not good
Yiddish is primary language not English
Most time in school spent on religious study
Very minimal time on secular subjects
College viewed as waste of time and frowned upon
Emphasis on Talmud and Torah studies
If someone wants to leave community can be challenging just based on lack of education
No tv/no smart phones
reason to keep people uneducated and dependent .
They are discouraged to go to the police for help and beware of the outside world
Those who rebel risk big problems not just for themselves but for their families
There are exceptions I would say Lubavitch is more liberal and Satmar very conservative and strict .
Not everyone is the same.
I would say except for Lubavitch you really have a tough life if Hasidic
@@marilynringel9228 no tv or smart phones because we dont want the liberal agenda shoved down our throats. Most of the community is highly educated. They manage to earn nicely with or without a college education. They are a very giving and charitable community. The kindness and caring are unmatched.
@@surikatz123
Politically we are the same
I'm guessing you are possibly Modern Orthodox as I don't think you would be on tbe internet
Whatever you do is fine
Let's put it like this
As you know there are many Hasidic sects
I have come across situations where people wanted to leave their Hasidic communities but were afraid due to repercussions
in bad marriages
could not go to college
Can be religious and not be Hasidic
Lastly wide range of practice.
I see Lubavitch at one end of the spectrum and let's say Satmar on the other
very little personal choice
That's all for now
Busy with life
Be well
Hasidism today would be unrecognizable by the Baal Shem Tov
Enjoy your Pesach !!
@@surikatz123
Not so kind and caring, towards the Palestinians though.
And, they were kicked out of 109, Countries.
Doesn't it make you wonder, why?,
Loving these videos. I really like the fact that in videos like this series, we learn not only about the neighborhood, but the perspectives of the people that live there.
Shloime thanks for taking the time to explain so much of the Hasidic Culture. I never realized and was curious so I did a RUclips search and very happy to see the two of you going thru the neighborhoods and into businesses. I really gave me a good perspective that I never would have imagined. You guys did a great job. I grew upstate NY. And now reside on cape cod in mass . And I would love to try some of the foods there my mouth was watering every time you guys went to a restaurant. Thank you both.
the best it to actully come here yourself and see the community with your own eyes as most stuff you see online will actually portay us so much different but shlomie is the best😁
As I wastched the video, I could stop thinking about the Hamentaschen. It looks so delicious. Thank you again for enlightening video.
I'm not Jewish, but look forward to Purim every year so I can get my Hamentaschen fix!
I love watching vids about these folks. What a great community. They are doing it right, for sure.
I am thinking it would be fun after seeing this to visit Brookline in Boston and go to a Jewish bookshop and eat at a Jewish Deli. I want to experience different cultures. Thank-you for posting this! I really enjoy learning about different communities.
Live and let live , it costs nothing to be nice and show each other respect regardless of belief
Great to see these videos! Thank you for shining light on the community.
I love visiting Boro Park. Thanks for this video!
Absolutely incredible video.
I got here by way of Peter Santenello's vids w/ Shloime. Both of the video series are excellent and show different aspects of Hasidic life.
While I may have a more liberal bent to my views, I was raised a strict christian - and there was not an emphasis on happiness or helping others with no thought to ourselves, which is a true shame....and likely why I no longer consider myself christian. Shloime seems like a truly giving and good man and I appreciate his love for his family and culture. I also appreciate the openess he shows to other cultures and people: I wish more people would show this type of kindness and generosity of spirit.
Thanks to both of you for the videos.
I was raised a Christian and my faith says to love all men . Love people and do as you would do yourself . Peace comes from loving God and when you love God ,you will do as he says and happiness will result as being obedient to God. Unfortunately you weren’t taught correct Christian doctrine . Read Bible for yourself , and your life will change . God loves you !🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️
@@pinkypromise111 maybe I wasn't raised as you were but I spent at least half my life studying the bible, I've read it several times, and I spent years attending different churches & studying different religions.
My favorite was the Catholic Church... Mostly because the franciscan sisters were so lovely.
Your proselytizing is pretty self righteous. I have a darn good life without the existence of a god in my life.
@@Kymberlee_W You studied religion half your life and no relationship with God ? Well as the scripture said, 2 Tim 3:7 always learning but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.
Romans 1:21,22 Because that, when they knew God ,they glorified him not as God, neither were they thankful; but became vain in their imaginations ,and
THEIR foolish heart was darkened . Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools , ( The wisdom of this world is foolishness unto God)
Doesn’t matter how much you read about God ,it’s about having a relationship with God . Devil knows and believes all about God,
but he ain’t getting into heaven !
As for your remark about proselytizing , Scripture states to preach the truth.How will people know what the scripture says unless they hear the truth of Gods word and not mans word? 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God - breathed and is profitable for doctrine ,for conviction,for Correction for instruction in righteousness;
And my righteousness comes from what Jesus did for me not anything that I earned .Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves : it is the GIFT OF GOD .
2 Corinthians 4:4 In who the god ( little g) of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God ,should shine on them .
You have no need of a god in your life because that is what you chose! Matt 13: 15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed THEIR eyes . Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and TURN,and I would heal them .
P.S. You said you have a darn good life without (a god) little g , in your life right? How would you know if you never had a relationship with GOD???
same
I was born in Israel Zion, now Maimonides. When I was a teenager, I was a "candy striper" volunteer there, after moving to Bay Ridge. As a retired teacher who has lived in NJ for the last 50 years, it was a pleasure to visit the old neighborhood. Being Catholic and attending parochial school in Brooklyn, I have always felt a deep connection to the Jewish communities of Brooklyn. This was an excellent video!🤗🤗🤗
Great video. Thanks for creating it. I've never explored this neighborhood before and I will definitely visit to try all these great foods.
Another awesome informative video! Thank you for the work you did putting this series together!

The food in that part of NY is awesome. You should show more.👍
That pastrami sandwich looks great! And so does the beef rib
Was so good
Thank you for taking us on this tour. I feel I have some entrée now into this compelling, mysterious and loving community.
Community is not as loving as you would think
Please go to my comments
@@marilynringel9228 hey Marilyn. Thanks for your words. I kind of did know what you say - I think, as a more world-engaged Jew, I was quite relieved and taken to see the fun and inclusion evidenced in Here be Barr's video.
And I was a little romanced to think "what if I could keep my own daughter so protected?" from the miseries and confusions of the world, especially most recently.
I do know from my own involvement in a certain spiritual community, things can get creepy when they stray from principles and become tethered to people. I have suffered in such a situation and even as a mature adult found it difficult to disentangle myself.
I spoke in sincerity and admiration for what I saw in the video. You mentioned, we Jews are sometimes the most mystified and distanced by the culture shown here.
I would be ever so curious to hear what I am guessing may be a complex story you have involving this culture.
Many gratitudes and happinesses, Rebekah🌼
@@rebekahcuriel-alessi2239 I'm not Hasidic and never was but have had many years of exposure of others and from meeting people -reading
My feeling is that any group that puts such severe limits on personal freedom needs to be questioned
I understand the level of protectedness you talk about
There is alot of garbage out there on internet and TV.
People have no guidelines how to live so I am very respectful
What I am talking about is the level of lack of choices
For example in some sects your daughter woukd even would be required to wear thick stockings in the summer for modesty reasons.
Actually would be all year round and skirts covering 4in or so below knees
If she did not dress within a guideline even as a child there would be a problem for you.
Daughters cannot just go off on their own and get their own apt and go to college and be single .
It does not work this way
There is an expectation to marry let's say by 20 and start having children
Many children
Men do not have it so easy.
Most of their waking time is spent in study and prayer little focus on secular subjects.
Push for marriage and for both men and women there is no dating.
I won't say you are forced to marry anyone but you cannot just marry anyone even if Jewish
In some sects even something like sports is frowned upon and viewed as a waste of time
You cannot just go to a library - if you go you have to go off to a different neighborhood so you do not get caught
If there is a questionable abuse situation it is not encouraged to go to the police.
Hasidism have their own beit din (justice system)
Again there are many different sects
Lubavitch is probably the most open and accepting of other Jews and interaction and strictness-they do alot of good work and although they are Hasidic I view them a little differently.
Satmar/Gur/Skyver are very different and more isolationist.
Hasidism is not traditional Judaism -it only came into being last few hundred years -practice of it today is not the way it was founded.
This is no different from many other groups.
There are good people and bad people in every group.
Read about Kiryas Joel and the level of poverty
Many kids and dependence on government for benefits
Is it everyone no
Similar to other groups.
One of may reasons people do not want Hasidim in communities and taking over school boards
This happens in all different groups in society
My point is that any fundementalist group or sects of any religion that severely limits personal freedom is questionable
We need guidelines in society.
Does infidelity exist 'yes
Abuse -yes
Benefit abuse yes just like other groups in society.
Just emphasizing that you cannot just go off and live the way you would in mainstream society.
You cannot just go off toba college and study what you want.
Imagine living with restrictions like this.
It is not good to just live loose
and crazy but it is not good to be at the other extreme where you need to live very strictly and without much personal freedom - in addition to being in big trouble and reported within these groups
Lack of education and limit in life choices is not good
There needs to be a healthy balance and Hasidism is more about conformity at the other end .
It can be difficult to leave when you lack resources.
Some leave with loss of family lack of support .
Think about having a good part of your life determined by others.
Lsck of choice and freedom
Again there are exceptions.
You can be a good loving person without such a high level of strictness and other people getting into your business snd privacy. You cannot justpick up and leave when you have limited resources .
Again there are exceptions. For example I saw a great video about a very loving Satmar woman who was very accepting of her children who dud not necessarily follow her way
All these comments are with sincerity.
Basically each follows his or her path but it should be done without fear or control -this goes for any religious group of any kind
I really think this may be my favorite out of all your videos.
The reason they were taking you all's picture was they were seeing 3 good looking gentlemen 😂😂. This was a very good video. My last cruise Jan. 2020 there were a lot of Hisidic Jews on the ship. Some people never saw Hasidic Jews before and didn't know who or what kind of people they were. B/C I lived in NYC yrs ago it was no big deal. I felt bad for the wives b/c trying to feed and keep up with all the children the wife I saw looked overwhelmed. The husband was no where around. I kind of like helped her keep up w/the kids. I told her, don't worry they will be big soon. 😁😉. Shloime is a good ambassador for the community 👍🏽

I am English and seeing videos like this really interest me, generally we don't have large communities which are different to our own. It's also great to see such acceptance of differences, if we all had the chance to see other cultures in this way there would be less conflict between humans.

I was born in union city NJ we had a community of hasidic jews there and a temple and I was in awe of them they are very nice people. I have great respect for them. As a catholic I realize how close to God they keep themselves. It's really a humble beautiful way to live
Wow my sister lived there.
After seeing the video, must admit that I got a bit curious and have cautiously driven around this area with my family. Hope to take my daughter to that bakery and make some friends one day. Completely agree with the comment that at the end of the day, most people want to just pay their bills and enjoy the life. My best wishes to this community.

There is very limited personal freedom.and choice
Would you want this for yourself ?

Lubavutch is very open compared to other groups and I view them differently in certain ways
Other sects much more strict and rigid
Satmar/Skyver and Gur
Good and bad people in all groups

Not having control and freedom
Hasidism is not traditional Judaism
It is not thousands of years old
The founder of the Hasidic. Movement in the 1700s the Baal Shem Tov would not recognize its practice today in many areas.

I remember when my son was younger and going to the local Yeshiva, in shul, whenever the cantor would say "Haman" we'd start making noise with the groggers. 🤣🤣🤣 I love apricot hamantashen. The only memory I have of Brooklyn was from so many years ago when I brought my son to the Jewish Children's Museum in Crown Heights. Another was when we visited my ex-husband's aunt (on the mother's side). Thanks for this video. It brings some fond memories.
Then several years ago, when my son was very young, they had Avraham Fried perform at a festival there. I was more of a Mordechai Ben David fan, though. But I love Avraham Fried's "Chazak."
Love these videos So Nice and funny at the same time to see how you reacted to so much in there Great video. Maybe come to Crown heights Right In Brooklyn Right near park slope where you have so much and the famous 770 Eastern Parkway headquters of Lubavitch. There’s so many Jewish communities in Brooklyn. I was born and raised in Brooklyn New York and Hasidic Jews lived right around me in crown heights area. But I never understood anything about them they felt and looks so different like living in another past time.
All I knew is that they own a lot of buildings and great business people. I’m 28 now These couple videos helped a lot! And is a start for me.
if u reah-out u will learn alot.
