I once took a picture at the Promenade that I still can't believe I got. It was sunset and the sky was cut in half because of the skyline. No photoshop or editing just pure nyc.
In the middle of a world that is seemingly falling apart comes this video to remind us all that there is normalcy and beauty around us. This was one of the most enjoyable videos I have seen in quite a while. I was born and raised in NYC and lived the first 34 of my 68 years in the New York area but curiously never went to Brooklyn Heights. I am now living overseas and will definitely visit Brookyn Heights nest time I come to visit. Many thanks!

Totally Beautiful. Everything About Brooklyn Heights is second to none. Brooklyn has sensational neighborhoods in other areas; however Nothing beats Brooklyn Heights.
My parents lived in Brooklyn Heights. That's where they met in 1941. They lived on Grace Court at the Promenade end. It was a lovely neiborhood then but not expensive. During the war there were required blackout periods along the waterfront. My parents were married at Plymouth church.
Nice spot. I lived in Dumbo for just over a year but only really discovered Brooklyn Heights in the last few months, when I expanded my running route to include it. Grace Court would be a lovely place to live.
Had the blessing of living on Columbia Hts. for nearly 3 yrs. in the 70’s. Hard to describe the unique sense of it - the neighborhood muffled the usual din of NYC, although it allowed in the distant hollow of harbor tug horns & the constant rumble of the BQE and the B. bridge. There was a certain feel of leather walking on blue-stone sidewalks while humming along with the warbling birds conversing 8 feet above you resting on the branches. The sight of following the arcs of the sun (both daily & seasonal) provided a tacit awareness of time by means of brownstone shadows. The occasions of savoring 10 cent 8 oz. glasses of tap beer at McGraths or grabbing a hero and a quart for less than a buck at the Plymouth sated the belly…and seemed to be the thing to do at the time. On the walk back west I could count on passing the Greeks playing dominos outside on their break from working at the St. George. When walking through Cadman Plz. I’d catch the whiff of the MTA drifting out the High St. entrance. Wow, great place, great memories - embedded!
Just returned from our first ever NYC vacation and had a wonderful time. We watched almost all of your videos before the trip and were so thankful that we did. Brooklyn Heights was my favorite of all the things we did. Thank you so much for what you do!!
All the years you have been doing this and all the videos of yours I have watched and you still keep finding new spots to highlight and a fresh take. Testament to the city but also to you. Well done. And thanks.
Once again thanks for making us aware of another area of New York that many people including myself have not visited. I have been six times but never ventured over here. Will make note and check it out if I can. Looks an interesting area of Brooklyn to explore.
Ross & I lived in a tiny studio 2 blocks back from the promenade for our first 2 years in NYC! We decided we needed more space and had to move, but I miss living there a lot. Brooklyn Heights is one of my favorite neighborhoods!
You are definitely making the most of NYC. I can't think of any other city in America that's as great as NYC, especially when you're making the most of it like you and your wife are.
We we're there yesterday. It is beautiful, the weather was the best day of the week and it's great to let the hustle of Manhattan behind and enjoy this beautiful neighborhood in Brooklyn.
I was born and raised in NYC. First, in Greenwich Village on Perry Street. Then, my parents moved to Brooklyn Heights (Montague Street) when I was 10. 1/2 block from the promenade. As much as I love Brooklyn Heights, my heart belonged to Greenwich Village where I continued to attend school. After college, my first apartment was in Brooklyn Heights (Joralemon Street). After a year, I moved to a lovely garden place in a Boerum Hill brownstone. Got priced out and returned to my Greenwich Village roots where I currently live. That said, Brooklyn Heights is gorgeous and a step back in time. Thanks for this lovely video! ❤❤ P.S. Other famous Brooklyn Heights residents include Norman Mailer, Arthur Miller, Rod Steiger, and others. Also, the iconic film, "Moonstruck," was filmed there.
This looks like such a cute neighborhood to just walk and explore! I’ll be staying in LIC this upcoming March and have been meaning to explore more of the outer boroughs, so I’ll defs have to make this a stop!! Thanks again as always Jon and congrats to you and Adriana on the baby at home!
I’m a Manhattan resident myself but I’ve owned property in Brooklyn Heights for years although I’ve been selling it off to buy properties in Florida where I plan to retire. BH is surely one of the nicest places to live in NYC (if you can afford it of course) and don’t let Manhattaners tell you otherwise. I started raising my family there, not far from the Miller house, and we were very happy during our years there. Then we moved to Midtown which is closer to the heart of things but we do miss the Heights from time to time. BTW, I’ve probably visited every major pizza joint in the 5 Burroughs and I can categorically state that the pizza at Dellarocco’s is in the top 3 in NYC. Very nice people run the place too. Appreciated this video.
My grandparents lived there from the 1960s up until 2000. Back before the explosion happened and the prices went to craziness. It was such a relaxing neighborhood to be in and enjoy. I was born at Brookdale Hospital. Miss Brooklyn every day.
My wife and I got an apartment at Columbia Heights (Two blocks alway from the promenade), this place is absolutely stunning. Our favorite neighborhood in NYC!
Brooklyn looks like a really cool place to live, you are so lucky, its looks like you have all the thrills of living in a big global city like NYC but with that intimate neighbourhood feel.Marilyn Monroe sadly said in one of her interviews that she would just love to just go and live and get a place in Brooklyn as it seemed she found it comforting and real and down to earth in some way and an antidote to the Hollywood film industry maybe ?!!
I grew up and lived in Redding Connecticut and would take the train to Grand Central all my life. I've always been fascinated with New York. I've got to say this is a wonderful portal into a part of the soul of the city I never knew until now. Very well made video and a joy to view. Nicely done!
Rob i wanted to say thanks for all the tips and tricks. Got back from my trip Thursday -hasn't been in NYC for 10 years. This was my 4th trip. I put a lot of bookmarks on my map because of you and I also utilized Khonsu. If it hadn't been for seeing that in one of your videos I wouldn't have known that a service like that exist that isn't ridiculously priced. The team over there is really something special and between them and you had the best trip and possibly a few of the best days I've ever had.
One tip, I have been there on a week day and on a saturday because I wanted to visit the DUMBO Flea Market. There´s a different vibe on saturday but I would definitely recommend going on a week day. Saturday it's way too crowdy!
A video on tips on how to move to NYC in 2022 would be a great one. It has been a while since you made one. Keep up with the great videos, love your content!
Hello John. Thank you for your new video. I always discover something new about New York from your beautiful and very well done videos. Great art work!
Adding Dellarocco's to my Brooklyn list. I've walked around Brooklyn Heights several times, love it! Took some great sunset photos on the Promenade in July too! Beautiful!
*And some of those small pizzas are, like, $32 or $34!!... I had one in a fou-fou area of Brooklyn, but I was on a business expense account, so the money didn't come out of my pocket* .
When I lived in Brooklyn the Promenade was easily my favorite place to go to. And now when I visit I'm so happy that most people go below to the BB park because I prefer the Promenade not to be so crowded especially in the evening.
The Promenade was where I watched the Twin Towers fall on Septembe 11th, 2001😢I couldn't return there for several years afterward but I go now and love it. Brooklyn Heights remains on of my fave NYC neighorhoods.
Hi, I am just LOVIN your channel. I came across it going through cooking channels. Cuz I so enjoy watching and learning from cooking channels. Whether Prof Chef, Home Chef or just a Mom. I learn loads with them from authentic cooking, to sheet pan meals, casseroles, one pot meals, airfryer meals, & so on & so on. With your channel, I am so very INSPIRED to go and see the sites, try many different foods (street foods in particular). Sooo many spots I want to try. For the food and sites I cannot wait to see. I see NYC in a whole new light. THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing!!! Arlene
I love how all the sidewalks are still visible and the leaves are still on the trees. Just got the first snowfall in Saskatchewan yesterday and spent today shoveling snow. I miss the warm weather already. That bridge looks like it has an amazing view of the city! I never knew Truman Capote lived in New York. I love the "Breakfast At Tiffany's" movie! That's awesome that they have a cat cafe in Brooklyn! There's a cat cafe in my city of Regina that costs $7 per person for 45 minutes. I haven't been there that often, though. I have two cats at home, so I feel like I'm already living in a cat cafe every time my cats bother me in the kitchen. That's cute that they have rats there, too. At least they seem friendlier than the rats people might encounter in the subway.
I am currently a senior citizen and retired. But I went to college in Brooklyn Heights. I think I never appreciated the gem that it was and sadly never really took advantage of the neighborhood. The Promenade was there even back then, and I did spend time there...
I grew up in that neighborhood. My grandfather was a tugboat fireman and his tugboat was down on Atlantic Avenue. My dad and his friends used to go to that Atlantic Avenue tunnel before it was officially discovered in the 1980s.
I would have went to Brooklyn & probably would have never made it to Brooklyn heights. Thanks again. It’s definitely on the list for my next trip back to NYC.
Well part of the fun is making mistakes if you’re not picky. Back in the old days I used to frequent NYC. There was no internet. NYC felt more mysterious and adventurous due to lack of information. In some ways, it was more fun.

Beautiful video.🥰 New York City is my second home, my love my heart beat 🥰❤💯 The promenade is my favorite place for my alone time. I love watching the sunset 🥰
That is the only Brooklyn to me. I was born and raised in Red Hook now known as Carroll Gardens. A walk to the heights was an activity. Any pizza in any part of Brooklyn is superior.
This is where the movie "The Sentinel" was filmed! Great movie- very creepy! Great NYC locations- Brooklyn Heights was & is stunning! Park Slope is another nice area in Brooklyn.
I visited Brooklyn heights a few months ago (i don't live in the USA) I'm wish i had seen this video then. 😭. But the thing is as it begins to get dusty the lines to the restaurants are crazy long. Lol. There's also a Christmas store somewhere around there🤯 i was so excited to see that. Lol
Great video! We’ll be going back again this Thursday. To get there from Manhattan, we’ve walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, but this time, we’re taking the ferry for the price of a subway ticket. I think it’s Pier 11/Wall St. to go across. What streets do you recommend as the prettiest for looking at the brownstones?
We are going to NYC in May and because of this video I booked a place in Carroll Gardens for a week (couldn't find anything suitable in BH) it will be a very quick walk to the promenade & should be easy to explore BH from I hope. Thanks for the video.

@@20-NYC despite its fame... I never made it to Bensonhurst!
Yeah, just be extremely rich, and you can experience beauty even within NYC...
Who'd have thought...
It's good that not a lot people wants to go there, the locals appreciate the quietness for sure.
Its far from the entertainment and a way too expensive.
😩 “ Better ‘ keep it quiet ’ or nearly Everyone will start flocking There. ”
My parents lived in Brooklyn Heights. That's where they met in 1941. They lived on Grace Court at the Promenade end. It was a lovely neiborhood then but not expensive. During the war there were required blackout periods along the waterfront. My parents were married at Plymouth church.

My parents honeymooned at the Bosert, quite a high end hotel in the 40s

Mr. O'Leary, if you get a chance, visit DUMBO and Park Slope. I think that you'll like both places.
It is beautiful - I've been there many times. Looks a lot my Victorian neighborhood of Spruce Hill in Philadelphia.
Ross & I lived in a tiny studio 2 blocks back from the promenade for our first 2 years in NYC! We decided we needed more space and had to move, but I miss living there a lot. Brooklyn Heights is one of my favorite neighborhoods!
That’s some prime real estate

If someone is really adventurous and doesn't mind going deep into Brooklyn, Bay Ridge is must see. The Cat Cafe 😻

Yes, it's amazing.
Love Brooklyn Heights. Miss home so, thank you for this video. So beautiful so healing so hopeful so comforting. Home

Thank you Jon, this video was very educational! When I visit NYC again, I definitely will walk on this promenade 😊

epic and classic shots i've only seen in movies.
Jewel of East Coast
Beautiful neighborhood the pizza looks delicious
Wanna go somewhere in NYC that is gorgeous? Explore Hudson Heights. I lived there in 2010. So pretty.
Born in BH, moved to Park Slope in my late 20’s, moved back in my 30’s, now I live in DC.
Beautiful Place
Yes. But it is very noisy from the underneath highway. Thank you for your video and work.
I grew up in that neighborhood. My grandfather was a tugboat fireman and his tugboat was down on Atlantic Avenue. My dad and his friends used to go to that Atlantic Avenue tunnel before it was officially discovered in the 1980s.
Really enjoyed watching this one, more relaxed pace & not so many bustling people around. The pizzas 🍕 left me hungry. They looked so good.
We were there last august. Brooklyn Heights is a jewel! Love it!
Man you are a pro... thanks for sharing and thanks for taking your time to produce such great quality videos.
Greetings from Uruguay.
I lived there for several years, a quiet spot in a busy city. Lived on Willow St
I would have went to Brooklyn & probably would have never made it to Brooklyn heights. Thanks again. It’s definitely on the list for my next trip back to NYC.
The amount of mistakes I would have made in nyc if I didn’t find your channel lol thanks so much I’m gonna go in super prepared
Happy to help!

Thx for the vids. I miss Brooklyn Heights. Have you ever done a video on Park Slope?
Hi 👋 Wow, thanks so much for exploring this area! What a truly majestic neighborhood! I need to go and explore it! ✌️
Many thanks!

I didn't to wonder too far and miss the meet up time. @2:52, they are called muse houses in the parts of London where they still exist and are also expensive. The cat cafe, heaven.
Love Brooklyn heights and the promenade
You're killing me - that pizza!!
What a beautiful neighborhood!
Brooklyn Heights is beautiful. I still would put Greenwich Village as the most beautiful though.
watching this with my cat who i adopted from brooklyn cat cafe! great to see them come up :)

I'm a former Brooklynite and this video is spot on. Park Slope is also worth exploring.
I think the Patty Duke show was supposed to be set in Brooklyn Heights.
Well done; you took the Last Exit to Brooklyn Heights.
Great video - Thanks - Another neighbourhood to add to my list
This is where the movie "The Sentinel" was filmed! Great movie- very creepy! Great NYC locations- Brooklyn Heights was & is stunning! Park Slope is another nice area in Brooklyn.

Start near Truman capote house 🏠 and bk heights promenade
There is also a terrific park near the river. Basketball courts, roller skating rink, soccer field, etc.
We are going to NYC in May and because of this video I booked a place in Carroll Gardens for a week (couldn't find anything suitable in BH) it will be a very quick walk to the promenade & should be easy to explore BH from I hope. Thanks for the video.
BH was featured in the Patty Duke Show way back. The building at 0.14 is reminiscent of the shot of their house in the opening theme.
Also, The Cosby Show was set in BH.
