    They made Starfox's legs metal cause they didn't know how to make the actual animal legs look good. Since fox is a fox they would have to give him fox legs, and slippy is a frog he had to have frog legs and etc. So they just made them all the same by making them metal robot legs. You can find Miyamoto talk about this in some interviews. "I wonder why people aren't asking how fox can sit in his chair even though he has a tail"

      Captain Lackwit I like to think that the modern, current Smash Bros versions of Fox and Falco (from brawl to smash 4) still have Prosthetic legs, but just more fancy looking, they're made to resemble boots. that's how I see it.

    • @kcdodger
      @kcdodger 9 лет назад +5

      XxAngiexXRPI Nah nah, see, the prosthetics are under the boots. Prosthetics are expensive, you wouldn't just leave them exposed, y'know? But I see what you're saying. In fact, I thought about this- that comically big toe in the boots? Could be a reason for it. Toes. Different structure on their legs/feet than ours.

    Did you know: The Star Fox series has a more dynamic and epic feel in its Japanese games? The voice acting in both Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Assault were handled by the same cast, and were done in the style of an action-oriented television serial, like the puppet serials Miyamoto was inspired by, i.e. Thunderbirds. It's dramatic and even serious at times...so why is it so corny in Star Fox 64? That's because of the way it was localized here in the states. The voice acting was some of the first done on a Nintendo Console, and as a result, it was cheesy and primitive.
    Finally, Star Fox Assault came out, and Nintendo of America saw that the game and its Japanese counterpart actually relied on its more serious take on the story (given the plot and direction of the game). So they called in new voice actors to give the game a little more serious and substantial tone. As a result, these "new" style of voices have become the standard now seen for the characters in games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where Fox is still played by his Assault VA, Jim Walker, and the other VA's for Falco and Wolf imitate the style of voices for their respective depictions in Assault.

    The Virtual Boy Star Fox thing was known internally as "Star Fox: Red Zone" and was pretty much only intended as a tech demo.
    Nintendo might've attempted a Star Fox game on the Virtual Boy had it not bombed so spectacularly, but what was seen at E3 '95 was nothing but a demo.

    lol G-diffuser system is so the arwing doesn't get destroyed by strong gravitational forces

    • @Zadamanim
      @Zadamanim 7 лет назад +3

      The G-diffuser system seems to be an anti gravity system that allows the ship to fly horizontally even at a low speed. At low speed, the wings wouldn't be able to provide enough lift by themselves. The atmospheres of different planets may also be difficult to deal with (providing different amounts of lift). So my interpretation is that the G-diffuser system works like a harrier jump jet by changing how much gravitational pull the arwing experiences to automatically create an even amount of lift. Since it updates automatically based on how fast you are flying, having a G-diffuser that isn't properly calibrated could make it very hard to slow down without falling out of the sky, which is why Falco rushes past you in Corneria once he realizes the G-diffuser isn't working.
      The way I see it, the G-diffuser only helps the craft stay in the air by making it relatively lighter. It is not meant to compensate for centrifugal force, which is what causes blackouts/redouts during intense aerial maneuvers.

      Game THEORY not fact

    • @JapanYamatoman
      @JapanYamatoman 8 лет назад +4

      While I'm not a fan of GameTheory, it's already been confirmed that Star Fox are NOT amputees.  Not too mention there were A LOT of holes in this theory to begin with....A LOT. ;-)

    • @JapanYamatoman
      @JapanYamatoman 8 лет назад

      +Idazmi7 Yes while this is true, said-WWII pilots never WILLINGLY amputated their legs on purpose. Basically they crashed/shot-down, and ended up having their legs amputated/partially-amputated to save their lives, and they were allowed to return to service. Yes, they could still perform their job well. But again, they never intentionally removed their legs for the sake of better blood flow.
      Nor do any Airforce endorse any policy to intentionally amputated one's legs.

    • @JapanYamatoman
      @JapanYamatoman 8 лет назад +1

      +Idazmi7 except that once again, that's not evidence. Saying "oh it looks like it," still doesn't prove anything. Especially in more recent game where graphics are way better. They can easily be seen as boots. And even further, saying "it kind of looks like it" doesn't prove anything. Still am waiting for actual evidence. The only image that shows them that looks like actual prosthetics is the Nintendo Power image and some manual image, but that is easily just a design choice for that specific image. No one ever states that the Star Fox characters are actual puppets (as oppose to flesh and blood anthropomorphics), yet in that same image, those are clearly puppets. Fun fact: G-diffusion systems actually were in the SNES version (even though it's not really canon anymore).
      And I find it funny that you say "Star Fox is not a real air-force" yet people who blindly defend this theory use real life leg amputees that have flown in the air force as further proof...of which it is not ;-). Sorry when you use one piece of evidence but then that same piece of evidence works against you, you can't just say "oh well that part that somehow ambiguously supports my argument is true, but the one that actually support your argument more greatly, is wrong.
      Again, still waiting on actual evidence, no one has given me any.

    I didn't take the time to read all the comments so I don't know if someone else already said this but, the G-diffuser has actually been around since the original star fox, while it wasn't necessarily referenced in-game, it is mentioned about in the Nintendo Power comic adaptation that ran along side the game's release.

    • @leonro

      They probably amputated their legs before the G diffusers were included in the Arwings. And the amputation doesn't solve the problem completely, so the G diffusers helped.

    • @TheSonicfan129
      @TheSonicfan129 8 лет назад +2

      +Bramaged Goods I saw an interview with JWitz and Miyamoto recently, (about Star Fox Zero) and JWitz DID get to that question, which Miyamoto answered. He said that it was mostly a design concept, since back then, they didn't know how to make them appear human like, while looking like animals as well. You can see the full interview on JWitz's channel, its pretty neat!

    • @inazumadrop
      @inazumadrop 8 лет назад +1

      +Idazmi7 He gave them metallic legs as an easy way to make them look human without having to do much redesign. Making them anthropomorphic would have required changing them too much. They essentially just used the metallic legs as a way to just chop off the lower half of the designs and attach human legs to them, without having to do a complete design overhaul.
      That being said I do like the theory. Even if it is just flat out wrong, I like the idea of finding an actual logic behind sporadic design choices like these.

    • @TheSonicfan129
      @TheSonicfan129 8 лет назад +2

      What we mean is, the artists back then couldn't figure out how to make them look human while being animal at the same time. Example: A fox's foot is much smaller than a human's, and would look strange if it was drawn like that, while the fox is on two legs. I sincerely hope that makes sense in some way. Besides, like I just said in an earlier post, Miyamoto confirmed in an interview that it was a design choice back when making the first game.

    Did you know that there are two Starfox manga: Farewel Beloved Falco, which explains why Falco's not in Starfox Advenures, and a Starfox Adventures manga, which is just a bunch of silly jokes that take place during the adventure such as Tricky changing color when playing with the ball, and Tricky wearing wrist bands around his legs that are made of fox fur. The shopkeeper in Thorntail Hollow's name is Shubunga, and Kid Icarus: Uprising was originally a Starfox game.

  • @akumati4061
    @akumati4061 10 лет назад +10

    The argument against the whole "Metal leg" theory is actually nothing but a theory. I'll explain as simply as I can.
    If you look at the original Arwing design, the blue portion of it next to the wings are the Ge-Defusions. In both Star fox and Star fox 64, they are present, but only 2 of them. In assault they get doubled for more Gravity Defusion.
    Now the support for the Theory is the fact that in art, they're robotic indeed. However they're only puppets on the box art and Manual. No one in the original star fox is actually shown except their face, so no actual solid proof exists about the whole amputation theory.

    • @vaderfan360
      @vaderfan360 9 лет назад

    • @DevilHunter1994

      Jimmy Mitchum Did. They did have robotic legs. Nintendo basically allowed that to be written out of canon because they thought it was too dark for children or something. Now they just wear boots, as we see in Starfox Adventures and Star Fox Assault.

    For you guys bad mouthing Star Fox Adventures, I can't blame you. There were problems since the adventure gameplay was new to Star Fox rather than its traditional rail shooting gameplay, but it wasn't that bad. I actually had fun playing the game and the story was nice. I just wish Adventures had more rail shooting than adventure to make it more seperate from Zelda rather than similar. But if you guys are going to hate Adventures, then give me your legitimate reasons, not rage quit reasons. I had my fair share of rage quit, but I got over it.

    • @MasterJunior93
      @MasterJunior93 10 лет назад +2

      I agree with everything you said. But you missed out something: the fucking Krazoa Spirit trials. They could have at least toned down the difficulty because some were goddamn difficult. Krystal was nice to put in the Star Fox universe because at least Fox would have someone to think about other than just money. He's technically not a bounty hunter, just some badass who wants to get shit done and get paid. Besides, don't you think Fox deserves a girl to hook with because of the shit he has to put up with? From blasting Andross's ass with his arwing to avoid getting eaten alive by dinosaurs while his only defense is a magic stick that isn't even his. Fox's life is fucking awesome, but it's also shit when things don't go his way, he deserves a girl. Thanks Rare for giving Fox a girlfriend. Also thanks for the Fox and Krystal fan art you fanboys/fangirls: beautiful, romantic, and awesome. Just tone down on the rule 34.

  • @ActuallySanFrancisco

    this is the best star fox video i've yet found - totally subscribing to this channel! and yes i always wondered myself about the metal feet - surprised no one else has mentioned that. i also thought the whole universe/design/aesthetic for the original star fox (and to a slightly lesser extent star fox 2) was SO much more engaging, deep, mature, and believable than any of the games later in the series. it felt a lot more star wars esque - making a concept that would otherwise feel highly unrealistic feel like a perfectly realized and tangible universe. and to do that with such limited graphics power is truly a statement - though the character art helped. i also highly prefer the original arwing design to the later more shiny and cartoony models. as much as i love the whole star fox series, i feel everything nintendo did with it after the SNES was a serious dumbing down of the original concept at best, and a bastardization at worse, on pretty much all fronts from level design, to musical score, to art direction. oh well. i suppose it's not always easy to live up to something that was as epic and groundbreaking as this game was when it first came out. the SNES star fox universe holds as much engrossment for me now at 31 as it did when i was 11 - and i can't say the same about any successive console release in the series.

      I love both those games too. and if you think about it, it goes with the Starfox team's occupation. They're a team of MERCENARIES. So wouldn't it make sense for Fox to understand multiple forms of combat? from Hand to hand, to wielding a Staff, his blaster, and of course, air based combat with his Arwing. So to me, if anything, those games make the Starfox team look more badass. I hope the new Starfox game for Wii U has the more serious tone that Assault and Command had. Also, what ending to Command is cannon. In some endings, the team disbands and Fox and Krystal have a son, in some endings Krytal is an outcast, wandering Space alone, detached from both Starfox and Starwolf. So I'd like to know what the hell happened?!

    Did You Know: According to the Lylat map from Star Fox 2 it's clearly state the Lylat System is a binary system, In Star Fox Command: Solar is clearly state is a planet due to the molten state by the triangle of the Sector XYZ and the parent star is called Lylat, also the yellow star seem in Star Fox Adventure's map maybe is Lylat, but Lylat is suppose to be a blue giant Star, maybe the Lylat System consist more than two star.

    Did you know: The barrel roll in game is called the Aileron Roll in real life. The real life barrel roll is actually half of a DNA strand shape. Both the Aileron Roll and the Barrel Roll are reserved for Air Shows as well. So when you do a Barrel Roll in Star Fox you do a Aileron Roll and the thing called the Barrel Roll in real life is a single helix shape. Look it up. It is true. While I was typing that in I pressed a button by accident and opened up the API Code in another tab, fuck you Google Chrome.

    • @NyQuilDonut
      @NyQuilDonut 9 лет назад +6

      You're an idiot.. I've seen you before. Starfox Assault was bad because more than half the game was third person shooting, not very good third person shooting at that. That's fine if they wanted to have like 20% of the game or so be on the ground shooting, but not %50 or more.. It's a Star Fox game. You're supposed to fly around on rails and shoot shit in space. Not spend the majority of the game on foot. There were only like 3 on rails space shooting levels in Assault. I don't know what's so hard for you to understand about this. Nobody buys a game that promises exciting space combat so they can spend the majority of the game on foot. As far as Starfox Adventures goes, I like that game. I think it's pretty good. My only problem with it is that it's not a Starfox game. It was originally called Dinosaur Planet and was supposed to come out on the N64. The original game also had two fox protagonists in it, but I guess Nintendo figured they'd sell more copies if they put a more familiar face on the cover. As far as that graphics reboot for Star Fox 64 and the fact that most people didn't care for it.. Well yeah. It's not really a game that's screaming for an update. It still holds up pretty well today. The controls are good, the levels are still fun so there's really no need to update it. Really all Star Fox fans want is more Star Fox. If they want to add in other elements to the game like third person shooting, more tank levels, submarine levels etc. That's great! I'm totally fine by that. What myself and other Star Fox fans aren't fine with is drastically cutting down the amount of flying missions which made us love Starfox in the first place. If they want to change things up that's totally fine and I encourage that even, but you don't fuck with a formula that was close to perfect to begin with. If you add in third person shooting then it needs to be a very small part of the game. The game is about flying around in space and shooting shit. You don't play Tony Hawk so you can spend half of the game body surfing. That's not what anybody wants. If I want to play a mostly third person shooting game then I'll play one. If you like the crappy third person shooting in Assault then you my friend are in the vast vast vast minority of people who do. To be perfectly clear (because you're really stupid and ignored the points I made last time) I'm only annoyed with the AMOUNT of third person shooting there was in Assault compared to space shooting. The controls were crappy but I wouldn't have cared if it only took up like %15-20 of the game. But no, it took up half the game.

    • @GiordanDiodato
      @GiordanDiodato 9 лет назад +4

      lasoogneypubes Subjectively, it's bad.
      So far, Assault is my favorite in the Starfox series. Yes, I like it more than the original SF on SNES because I feel like it doesn't hold up with slippery controls.
      Just because it does something different doesn't make it bad. I mean, seriously, do you like the New Super Mario Bros series?

      Giordan Diodato Lol ok you're trolling now. You have to be. I don't know how many times I've said this. I don't care that they're doing something different. I just wanted there to be LESS ground missions because it's a game about flying in space and shooting shit. You're just one of those douche bags who don't understand that you can actually change a game TOO MUCH. It's fine that they added ground missions, I'm totally fine with that. The problem is that THERE WERE TOO MANY OF THEM. How hard is that to understand? Are you drunk all the time?
