Founded in 2015 by Visual Capitalist and Texas Precious Metals, the Money Project will look at the evolving nature of money, and will try to answer the difficult questions that prevent us from truly understanding the role that money plays in finance, investments, and accumulating wealth.

I've been in business for 30 years. I would never think of stiffing my crew and subs by declaring bankruptcy. He has screwed thousands of people millions of dollars time and time again. That in my opinion is the definition of a crook.

....didn't know that!!! Learn something new every day about Trumpy ......usually not good or impressive.
It is now March 2024 - HUMPTY TRUMPY just hit with $83 Million judgement against him for RAPE .....and $454 Million judgement against him for FRAUD. Humpty Trumpy really rich? Well apparently not so rich. He is whining and complaining about how much money this is. I thought he was "really rich"!!! He still keeps telling everyone ....or anyone who is listening ....how rich he is .....but he hasn't paid a plug nickel so far.
Guess it's a surprise that he is NOT rich .....which is more than likely. What he owns is merely the ownership paperwork ......otherwise, he has very little money. AND, there are two more court cases pending. The first one being his claim he is IMMUNE. Immune to what, I have not idea. THEN there will be the trial for his act of insurrection .....which will make him ineligible to a president ....ever. But he will keep electioneering because there is nothing to stop him from electioneering. As stupid as this sounds, because there is a CONSTITUTION that clearly states, in the 14th Amendment, Section 3, that he cannot be president .......he will IGNORE the CONSTITUTION. Sound like an ANARCHIST? His name cannot be put on any ballot .....anywhere. This proves, there is "dumb", "dumber" ......and then, I suppose ....."DUMBEST".

The 8/530 stat has been widely discredited. Firstly, he has absolutely not "founded" 530 businesses. He's a trustee, president, chairman, or just a member. Secondly, he's rarely the business director of those businesses and thus their success and failure is often dependent on the decisions of others. Third, there are estimates that at least 30 of the businesses he has been a controller on have failed (here's a quick list of some well-known ones: gawker.com/a-complete-list-of-donald-trump-s-business-disasters-1764151188).
Trump inherited $40 million in 1974 which, if he had just invested in an S&P500 index fund, would be worth $3 billion dollars right now (slightly more than his actual net worth depending on which valuation you believe). He was worth $200 million in 1982 which, if invested in the same index fund, would today be worth $8 billion.
Oh yeah, and don't forget that Trump was born into a life of privilege, quality education, and had all the business connections of his father who was a very successful real estate developer himself. That "small" million dollar loan was actually worth $4,493,104.09 when you factor inflation. Combined with all the advantages/connections he had over most middle-class people, it would have been pretty hard for him to fail. (Though there are some stats which show he needed 2-4 more loans from his father in subsequent years to remain solvent).

Even with the right technique and
assets some investors would still make more than others. As an investor, you should've known that by now that nothing beats experience and that's final. Personally I had to reach out to a stock expert for guidance which is how I was able to grow my account close to $35k, withdraw my profit right before the correction and now I'm buying again.

Don't buy this downplaying one million dollars. That's more than most working class people will be able to have throught their whole lives despite their capcity or good ideas. It's easy to make money if you already have it. That's what he did. And even so he failed many times. His father didnt 'chip in' , he made an illegal loan. He was GIVEN money over and over cause he ALREADY had money. He underpaid workers and materials, outsorcing whatever he could, exploiting people, not paying taxes...That's ot a huge impresive success. That's a spoiled brat. That's luck at birth. That's the most likely consequence. He is a scoundrel not a role model

Also, they are pushing the narrative that Trump is a billionaire. The Forbes list started in 1981 and Trump was worth 5 million dollars and you had to be worth at least 135 million to be on the list. So Roy Cohn told Forbes that Trump was worth 135 million which was his fathers net worth and that his Father was worth 5 million. Also from 1985 to 1994 his IRS tax transcript showed that Trump had a net lost of 1.9 Billion Dollars during that time period. So he was never wealthy enough to be on the Forbes list. More smoke screen and mirrors.

They passed a law stating that a minority could no longer own land of a certain value and in certain district. They forced him to sell or just outright took the property. They then passed a law he could only sell and service Ice boxes in black Communities, then the local government imposed a tax on minority business's not white owned or shared. When he and my grandfather went to the government for a loan , even after serving his country , he was denied, despite "whites" with less credit worthiness or success received loans over him. Indeed he was luckier than most of us, but nonetheless, he didn't go bankrupt (i'm talking about the man not any of his companies). And no it's not easier if you have more money. $1 cant buy shit thats why its hard to turn into 3000
however with 1 mill, you can turn it into 2 the next day. if you have 1 mill liquid cash and a name like trump (replacing his resume in this instant) then a bank would match it.
what people are missing is, its not about the bullshit cash his dad gave him, its whats he is worth and the connections and access he gave him. the fact that his dad was building for the gov, he was at the best position to buy any building in NY, you with the same price on the same night coming from europe with no NYC connections wouldve been laughed of.

@ryan_sebastian Trump wasn't as well connected as you think. When he first got started he had to make his own name for himself, people didn't care about his father because he primarily built real estate in the poor areas, while Donald was building in the wealthier areas. He only became known after his major success at the Grand Hyatt. He also struggled early on because the mayor of New York (Ed Koch) absolutely hated the Trump family and tried blocking them from government funding for a while. Trump is a successful businessman, I still dont understand why people try to downplay it so much. Id suggest you read The Art of The Deal before commenting on him so you can have a more informed opinion.

If youre doing well and make a little over 10% a year, you can turn a million into a billion in a lifetime. If however you dont start with a million but with a 2000$ monthly income of which you need 1800$ to live and 40 hours a week to actually make that money, try calculate what you can make of that with slightly over 10% ROI. If you have time of course to think about how to invest while youre working to make your living.

***** The amount of money has everything to do with it. If you invest in something with a lot of capital and it crashes, then that could be considered a failure (which really could mean anything due to how crazy complicated getting a business running is). If they are low investment pushes, then it doesn't matter if they failed or not. maybe of them could just be pet projects. Also, for every one success an entrepreneur makes he's going to need about twelve failures. That's just a nice little rule of thumb when thinking about business. It doesn't grow on trees, this isn't a sitcom. Making shit work is an incredible achievement, and losing out on a dozen is just apart of the deal.

Yu Kiu Lau There’s no way to know how much money he actually has because he lies so much about it. One journalist estimated his wealth as between 150-250million. Trump sued him and lost. His tax returns could verify those inflated figures, but obviously he’s hiding them and the fact that he’s actually worth far less than he claims might be a big reason why he’s hiding them.

People keep talking about this $1 million. What's important is to mention WHEN he got that money. It was worth significantly more then than now and that wasn't his only loan from his father. Another thing would be the inheritance when his father died worth more than all of those loans combined. It doesn't take much business prowess to succeed when you have the business blueprint, all of the front money, a standing name to brand in business and connections from your father. Other billionaire businessmen have said many times that he'd be worth 3-4x more if he had done nothing but reinvest dividends on what he already had to start with.

Kept being promised the payment as it was pushed back again and again, constantly told how good the job was, and a promise of bonus jobs etc...the first drained his bank account and mortgaged his home to keep his workers being paid. Suddenly, he was told, "I'll give you $xxx....which came out to about 10 cents on the dollar. Eventually, when he was far too broke to bring a long term law suit, he accepted about 20 cents on the dollar, the workers all lost their jobs, and he has been scrambling working 100 hours a week to keep his house. The truth huh? It may have some truth, but it's very vague and leaves out a shit load of truths and the reality of his "successes" which pretty much always ended up as massive failures for his investors. That big win, the grand hyatt hotel he sold in 96, it was leveraged to the fullest extent possible and the only reason it was able sell it was because he unloaded it at 100 million dollars over the true appraisal value to the publicly traded company he had started with investor money he duped out of people thinking his name still had value and he was still a wealthy man. He shifted his own personal debts onto the investors in a fashion that would likely be considered criminal today. It was this scheme that started the utter destruction of his publicly traded company tanking the share value from a solid $35 per share to a next to worthless 17 cents per share. Knowing this would be the result of his scheme he almost instantly began his move to depart from this doomed company the day he screwed over every single investor, the day he finalized the sale of his massive liability, the leveraged hotel. He pocketed just over 56 million dollars on that deal even after the sale being $100 million above the true value of the property, but ended up costing his investors over a billion dollars and he was gone from the company by his own doing (he was fleeing the scene of the crime) in just shy of 6 months and already had the lawyers filing his 3rd bankruptcy protecting him from any financial blow back caused by his scum bag ass scheme.
This is not even close to the only shady ass shit thing he has done to screw those who invested in him. He has forced his creditors to sue him so many times that he can't even get a loan from any banks here in America any more. They know he's a dead beat who won't pay and who will force them to sue him costing them a lot more money and allowing him to once again simple file bankruptcy. His Washington D.C. hotel he bragged about so much during the latter part of his campaign was only able to be done because he was able to secure a $100 million loan from a foreign bank only after signing over his entire stake as collateral and agreeing to an unheard off, absolutely insane 14% interest rate!
This is the man who claimed he will be the best jobs president ever because he will run our government like he does his business! The only thing he has ever succeed at was owning property his father basically purchased for him because he was confident in the future of the investment. This is the man we elected to the highest office of the country!

    • @zedek_
      @zedek_ 7 лет назад +35

For the record, his own 'estimation' is complete bullshit, and also, *by the way, he got $40 million from inheritance.*. Additionally, it's interesting to note Bloomberg puts it at $2.9 billion, last I checked.
However, even more important than that is how people who actually have close ties to his assets put the net worth at $150 million to $250 million, and estimation that prompted Donald to trying, and failing, to sue Timothy O’Brien for libel. This article does a great job covering the topic:
      www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/that-time-trump-sued-over-the-size-of-hiswallet/2016/03/08/785dee3e-e4c2-11e5-b0fd-073d5930a7b7_story.html
Even just $150 million seems pretty successful, right? Well, maybe... unless you consider that he dramatically under performed in comparison to the market. In fact, people have done the math and concluded that:
_"The simplest version of the comparison seems to be that if Trump had taken his $40 million inheritance from his father in 1974, converted it into cash, and invested it in the S&P 500, reinvesting all dividends and spending no money along the way, he'd have about $2.3 billion or so today, depending on how you do the math."_
      www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2015-09-03/should-donald-trump-have-indexed-
Who has the right numbers? Well, I'm inclined to go with the guys who actually have direct knowledge, and didn't expect to get sued for just casually stating what they thought to be just facts. Regardless, if we ever get $40 million, we'd now know how to be about as successful, or even more successful, than good ol' Donald.

LAUS art trump is a real estate developer. most of his assets are real estate. when you own a piece of real estate, you have the say of its value --- not forbes. unless donald trump put up everything he owns for sale and listed the prices, it's impossible for forbes to have an anywhere-near accurate account of the worth of donald trump. also, if forbes had decent researchers they wouldn't block people from coming to their site who are using adblock, because they'd know that most people would just bounce off the site. and that's exactly what's happening.

Dear all i understand if the government has given tax payers money and the person used it to build things then he should have given jobs to many ppl.this is the way in capitalism to give money.ppl has to earn it.
But lazy ppl like socialism and COMMUNISm as they want free money.
Charitable trusts are best example that could work in capitalist arrangement. But giving away money by government for free is the biggest sin.as its repurcurssion is citizens soleley dependent on government help, lazy citizens.this is not a right thing to do.
But the failure of banks and other companies like freddie may, lee man brothers etc. Is ok untill it give away millions of dollars of incentives to presidents vice-president,executives rather than paying of employees who lost job or who deposited money or bought shares.this is unethical.
Socialism and communism will not work as it involves government to run enterprises.givernments role should be limited to governance, policy making law and order, finance policies, providing security to citizens and required infrastructure, foreign affairs, trade policies.not in running socialist or communists type Government.
China may have achieved much but you should not undermine how it did that.its on expense of freedom of people, their will, their suberversions, artificially created demand and other things.

This video leaves out the Plaza Hotel which Trump acquired in 1988 and was featured in the film, "Home Alone 2".
The Plaza was a New York landmark hotel that Westin sold to Trump for $390 million - all leveraged through loans from banks like Wells Fargo and Citibank. At the time, the price was considered to have been above market. Trump pumped another $50 million into renovating the hotel and it went downhill from there, never generating enough revenue to cover the loan payments. To avoid foreclosure, a group of banks took 49% ownership and forgave $250 million in debt as part of a bankruptcy arrangement.

He went broke in months, because, while he had enough to buy both, he did not have enough left over to pay salaries (can we say idiot). My mom had some cousin money come back to her in the form of inheritances, but nothing more then 90,000 at a time, with the exception of once, enough money to buy a nice upper middle class home. She also blew it all, and has nothing to show for it, except a nice room in the assisted living. But she is broke.

Interesting to note, and he said this himself. His business interests while president are not a conflict of interest. In this time since the voting happened. He actually hasn't been fulfilling his duties, leaving them with Pence. In fact, his approach with foreign dignitaries also including him trying to expand his business with them. To add to this, he refused to have staff other than him, and his "blind trust leader" Ivanka in attendance of the meeting. To add to this, he also wishes to have two of his sons, which are part of his blind trust, given "the highest security clearance" perpetuating his intent that he is not relinquishing control of his money to his children, in fact, they will be part of the negotiations with foreign entities. This is, arguably, a conflict of interest that is listed within our constitution involving two separate parts, which imply that he is not to accept money from foreign states or persons of foreign government. This is an investment into his wealth. And a good reason not to accept the, rather menial, salary that the President would have, as he would have to list all his assets publicly as per federal law.

Actually, he has to attend these as he is responsible for the transition. Though true, he has not actually been elected yet. That doesn't happen till December 19th. There is also evidence that tampering happened in favor of Trump. He does not assume the power till January. This seriously is the time frame, where, like most new jobs, they tell you how the job is done, his training period. That's what this transition is about. Those are his duties, just like listening to the security meetings that involve the wellbeing of our nation. Does he have to listen to them. Nope. But he should actually listen, because he is daft, and needs as much info as he can to actually do his job. Besides that, I think you assumed allot. Read my statement again, you jumped to some conclusions. Also, I think it's fine to defect on a defective president. As a democracy, we the people, have the right to name, appoint, and even impeach our elected officials. Seriously, we vote for the people who vote for the president and for who would vote them off. Admit-ably, less populated states, have more power than larger states in this. I do not kid myself, just so you know. It's a history that we need to correct, not accept.

kalinwang1 What I referring to is passive income and the amount of losses one can take. Back then you were allowed to take more losses than you actually invested in. Many rich people dumped massive amount of cash in bad companies to have carry forwards for future tax years.
Today you can only take losses to the amount your invested in and ONLY in passive activity. So if you quit an activity that you have losses in you have 5 years to carry that forward into a new activity or its gone forever.
What Donald trump did was exactly that. I can't blame him since it wasn't illegal at the times but it most definitely helps to write off some losses you actually didn't loss.
I'm not even sure how both of your comments are relevant to tax regulation but giving you a benefit of the doubt I explained what my original post meant. And personally, so just as long as money is in the bank not being used it really doesn't mean anything. It just shows that his companies pay little dividend if not nothing at all which proves his companies profit are held in retained earnings and not focused into grabbing the attention of current and potential investors. an addition, having money the bank is great but if its not active and just sitting there its just money sitting there and not growing and has not fight against inflation. "10 Billion" if that, I think its less, was just cash he slowly saved up to remain in the billionaires list. I believe a Billionaire is someone who continuously makes a Billion dollars either in a calendar year or a Fiscal year. I don't think he makes close to that.
As an investor we want to see how profits are this year compared to last year, did you meet your goal? exceed it or fall short? Is your company actually growing? are you paying dividends? Are benefits matching companies performance? Things you should ask not how much do you have in the bank? as a banker yes, as an investor no.

Trolls The King one small problem with that. When you own a business, lead a country, or are in charge of anything there is only one way you can allow it to go. It must go up, you must find ways to improve, because if you don't, some other company or country that does go up, will eventually drown you out and force you to go down. There is no staying where you are. Either business improves, or it fails.
