  • democracynow.org - A series of new investigative articles have revealed Donald Trump’s shady business dealings in Atlantic City, his failure to pay contracted workers over the years, and his decision to partake in what may amount to "calculated tax fraud"-a felony. We begin by looking at how Donald Trump bankrupted his Atlantic City casinos, but still earned millions. "Even as his companies did poorly, Mr. Trump did well. He put up little of his own money, shifted personal debts to the casinos and collected millions of dollars in salary, bonuses and other payments. The burden of his failures fell on investors and others who had bet on his business acumen," wrote Russ Buettner and Charles Bagli in The New York Times. They join us to discuss their piece, "How Donald Trump Bankrupted His Atlantic City Casinos, But Still Earned Millions"

Thanks to obama, yes. unfortunately trump then cratered that economy, leaving biden to pick up the mess. not a temporary blip, either, unfortunately: the deflationary pressure of globalism gave us a generation of unprecedented low inflation, and trump's nationalism wrecked that. Not only does that mean we will now struggle with inflation indefinitely from here on out but anti-inflation measures will now necessarily put a cap on economic growth which we were free from for a generation. thanks, antiglobalists.

@@LPkOhOnIz he got nothing of the sort. He inherited a growing economy, and tanked it by handing trillions of taxpayer dollars to corporations, which then undercut mom and pop businesses which went out of business, which in turn leaves the corporations without competition hence free to jack prices up so you are now paying much more than you need to for groceries, utilities, etc. That inflation and high prices everyone's complaining about is due to trump's mismanagement, and it took several years for Biden to turn it around. the unfair advantages trump gave the corporations will take decades to reverse, and your taxes paid for them to fleece you.

Sometimes going bankrupt is a smart & good thing....but going bankrupt over & over & over & over again is not and shows people, investors, and bankers just how bad of a businessman someone really is...And it's why U.S. banks refused to loan him any more money!

going bankrupt is sometimes the only way for a company or person to survive or settle its debt, but business or personal failure is not a good thing. somebody or society bears the burden of that failure. tRump's business and personal failures have burdened others as his thousands of litigations proved.

As currently on view in the USA, the FASCIST SCAM started over a hundred years ago when Coors (as in Coors beer) put together a fascist right wing group and agenda to counter the socialist progressive policies that were beginning to be implemented in America.
The protestant groups, such as the evangelicals, baptists, assemblies, etc., were chosen for this project PRECISELY and INTENTIONALLY, because they were NAIVE, incredibly IGNORANT, and very EASILY and READILY MANIPULATED.
Money, capitalism, power, fascism, plutocracy, and oligarchy were and are the singular goals, the absolute objectives; though most of the deluded members of these cults are not aware of these things and would die defending this con.
These ultra right wing barrons knew it would take some time for this cold-blooded, purposeful contrivance to work its way to the forefront, but it started to bear fruit in the 50's, showed up in force in the Reagan 80's, the Gingrich Congress, Dubya's era, Delay's Congress, the Claremont Institute, (and many others like it) and came to full, grim, nightmarish fruition with the republicaneviks, trumpeviks, magaviks, q'anoneviks, etc.; with the RIGHT WING, conservative, fascist MEDIA at their side AMPLIFYING the SOPHISTRY/MESSAGING 24/7.
It would take hundreds of years of deprogramming - and that with limited success - to start to solve this problem, if at all possible, because it was done under the auspices of religion. The naive left fell prey to right wing pr and did absolutely nothing to counteract this evil, nefarious scheme. It was dismissed as under the sponsorship and guidance of 'religion.' They were afraid to touch that system model. Instead, they actually helped cater to it, particularly during the Reagan and Dubya era. -- The so-called 'christian right' is NOT Christian. They are old testament fundamentalist reconstructionists and dominionists. There are varieties within those, most of which are predatory, fraudulent, grifting, larcenous, and criminal. They do NOT follow the teachings of Christ as laid out in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the New Testament of the Bible. The word 'christian' as applied to these people is a DELIBERATE MISNOMER. -- -- --
Additionally, the Muscovite-Russian State has been plying its propaganda for hundreds of years. But it came into full play in the USA with the Reagan years in all possible categories, such as: economy, commerce, business, politics, finance, entertainment, religion, education, etc. Putin intensified the predatory ruthless scheme to a highly targeted level by not only using human assets but all media resources available, particularly television and internet; concentrating on the venal, CORRUPT, uninformed, IGNORANT, and GULLIBLE political and religious right. This Infiltration/Manipulation is ONGOING. - Crudely but accurately stated, Trump and the religious/political right are Putin's 'butt boys' - (though Trump is particularly 'special' in that regard). That goes for the entire religious and political right throughout the planet. Think Europe, India, Africa, etc. The muscovite brainwashing has been profuse. -- -- --
The right planned hundreds of years into the future.
The left was lazy, and in many instances, arrogant and unsophisticated about reality.
The consequences and results of lack of counter-action are self-evident and on full display. -- The only long-term answer:
EDUCATION, education, education. With real SOLUTIONS and absolute, actual RESULTS.
Not following through would be terminal. ---
Everything Trump does is CALCULATED, MANIPULATIVE, DELIBERATE, MALEVOLENT, and SADISTIC. Always.
Trump IS a LIAR. So he has been his entire life. It's both his NUMBER ONE PERSONAL IDENTIFIER and his PROFESSION. Ditto for his progeny.
Everything the Trump Organized Crime Family does is CALCULATED, MANIPULATIVE, DELIBERATE, MALEVOLENT, and SADISTIC. Always.
The Trump Organized Crime Family MODUS OPERANDI: Delay, Delay, Delay.
      Deny, Deny, Deny.
And above all: LIE, LIE, LIE. -
In conjunction with: Cheat, Bribe, CORRUPT, Deceive, Defraud, Dupe, GRIFT, Hate, Steal, DENY RESPONSIBILITY, REFUSE ACCOUNTABILITY, THREATEN, INCITE VIOLENCE, Assault, Attack, COMMIT TREASON,
be utterly self-absorbed, self-adulating, self-aggrandizing, self-promoting braggarts, cretinous ignoramuses, arrogant entitled bigots and racists, narcissists, criminal thugs, criminal treasonous sociopaths, and criminal treasonous psychopaths. -
      And that's just for starters.
They have LEARNED NOTHING IN LIFE.
They are immeasurably, profoundly, and unfathomably IGNORANT, flat-out stupid, MORALLY/ETHICALLY BANKRUPT, and EVIL.
ALL IN Putin's POCKET, GOING ABOUT Putin's BUSINESS.

by 2005 ,atlantic city suffered from areas around it passing casino gambling. that took a lot of business away from atlantic city. it was no longer the only game in town. people from pa and ny no longer traveled to ac. that put a big dent in ac. and ac is a coastal town with beaches and a beautiful boardwalk. so, on a major holiday that celebrates the beginning of summer, most of the visitors are doing outside activities. but trump did screw @100 contractors involved in the construction of his casinos. i voted for him , because he was a good president, but as a businessman, he was a scumbag. he screwed hard working people, while everyone else that was developing paid their bills.

Atlantic City saw gambling as its salvation, but the local economy got little of the economic activity. Casino owners took the profits from gambling. Casinos pay low wages, so they are not creating a middle class. Most of the gamblers were coming from Greater New York or Philly and returning once they lost their bankroll. They were not staying in Atlantic City hotels that at the least generate huge tax revenue for a city. So about all that one spends in Atlantic City is for fast food, gasoline, or a highway toll. Contrast Detroit, which at least insisted that casinos intermesh with the local economy.

If an employee leaves that employment then the value of their shareholding moves with them. This will give the people who actually create wealth, the workers, security and a just reward for their contribution to the business. That's true capitalism by the way.

Now he's asking for as much money from his constituents as possible to fight supposed legal battles that all have no merit, but, he gets to keep all of the money his donors give him, which is tens of millions nearly on a daily basis. Seems like a scam far worse than Trump U. He can get 1,000 lawsuits thrown out of court and still come out on top simply by asking gullible people to send him a check to supposedly fight an election outcome. I'm not criticizing you. I am asking you to open your eyes and not let him take advantage of you anymore.

"I knew when to get out, my timing was great" [in leaving Atlantic City]. No Donald. Your casinos went through multiple bankruptcies in a city that was once far easier to make money than it was in Las Vegas and you lost all your equity in the properties you financed. You didn't go through the exit door voluntarily, the banks pushed you through it. Always blew my mind at how packed the casinos used to be in Atlantic City and could charge what they wanted to non-gamblers, and could attract many heavy gamblers but you STILL were losing money. The wood-fired pizza at the Taj Mahal buffet was really good, I will give you that.
