    John F.Kennedy Airport
John F. Kennedy International Airport (IATA: JFK, ICAO: KJFK, FAA LID: JFK) (colloquially referred to as JFK Airport) is an international airport in Queens, New York, USA. It is the primary international airport serving New York City. The airport is the busiest international air passenger gateway into North America, the 21st-busiest airport in the world, the sixth-busiest airport in the United States, and the busiest airport in the New York airport system, having handled just over 61 million passengers in 2018. More than ninety airlines operate from the airport, with nonstop or direct flights to destinations into five inhabited continents.
JFK is located in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens in New York, 16 miles (26 km) southeast of Midtown Manhattan. The airport features six passenger terminals and four runways. JFK serves as a big hub for 3 airlines, one of few airports in the US to do so. JFK is a hub for both American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, and it is the primary operating base for JetBlue. JFK was also formerly a hub for Pan Am, TWA, Eastern, National, and Tower Air.
The facility opened in 1948 as New York International Airport and was commonly known as Idlewild Airport. Following John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963, the airport was renamed John F. Kennedy International Airport as a tribute to the 35th President.

The shadows indicate it was early morning - most likely a weekend - because it's Crazy Good time to get from JFK to midtown in 30 minutes! You round that bend on the LIE and then BAM! - there's the Manhattan skyline directly ahead. I've driven this route so many times yet still get jazzed when the skyline first comes into view.

I was watching this video to see what approaching Manhattan from the east was like. It's not that different from approaching it from the south west via the NJ turnpike. I've crossed over the GW bridge many times. Sometimes we went south into Manhattan. Other times we stayed on the Cross Bronx expressway. Either way, seeing the Manhattan skyline was pretty amazing.

NYC is cheaper than Sidney, which was ranked least cost effective city five years in a row. Also NYC is just awesome. You should definitely give it a try.

You hit the nail squarely on the head gasaholic47, i was saying the same thing myself, i was waiting for the traffic to start slowing down around Linden Blvd till you get to the Grand Central/ Van Wyck split, 9.8 times out of 10 it will happen.

    • @gasaholic47

@@ShadowHawk4219 When I worked in Brooklyn, I avoided it like the plague. I was coming from Westchester, and would take the GCP instead to the Interboro. As long as there were no accidents, it usually wasn't too horrible going that way, as in the morning going east on the GCP was easier than going west towards the Triboro.

My wife and I did this trip by taxi 21 years ago on 6th December 2000, but we crossed one of the bridges into Manhattan back then. Queensboro Bridge I think it was. Crossing it was all part of the magic of that first and so far only journey into New York from JFK....
