I'm dying to get back to NYC! I've been twice before and I've done a lot of what you suggested here, but the rooftop bars, the transit museum, and great pizza -- that's what I'm looking forward to! One of the things I really want to see that you don't have mentioned here is the City Hall Subway station. I think it's expensive, but I still want to see it. Good suggestions!

@@kellywilson3759 im going in a week and will be spending 5 days! Do you have any more recommendations? Where did you go and where did you not go from his recommendations?
Instead of top of the rock which costs a lot of money, you should get a drink at the William Vale Hotel in Brooklyn. The bar is set at the top of the hotel on the 22nd floor. Views are incredible and it's a way more affordable option.
Big goof because you can’t afford to live in NYC. People from other countries risk their lives and leave everything behind to come and live in NYC. NYC is the place to live for the rest of your life, doesn’t the fact that it is the most populated city in the US prove this? Almost 9 million people live here. NYC is the city that has absolutely everything, you can do everything here, it’s not just a place to visit for a few days at all, not even close. It is the most amazing place to live.
Here are 10 more New York City great Dos in addition to John's great recommendations: 1. To see celebrities in person go to the corner of 53 street and Broadway in Manhattan and go north a few feet up 53 street around 4:30 pm Monday to Fridays (only when the Stephen Colbert Show is taping because sometimes the show is on vacation or is off for a day) and stand behind police barricades that will be there. Then, you'll see the celebrities coming in between 5pm and 6pm across the street from where you'll be standing. Then, when the celebrities finish being on the show they will come out of that side entrance to leave. Many celebs when they are leaving (not when they first arrive) will walk up to the fans and take selfies and shake hands with you. The celebs will walk up to you between 6pm and 45 minutes after that. But, you have to be there early before the fans area fills up. 2. You can also see celebrity guests going to The Jimmy Fallon Show and Seth Meyer Show and if you're lucky Saturday Night Live Show inside 30 Rockerfeller Center (yes that's the same building that the TV show 30 Rock is based on with Tina Fey). That is near the corner of 50 Street and Avenue Of The Americas and try to be there around 5pm inside the lobby and just ask someone which is the elevator to go to The Jimmy Fallon Show. Then just stand in that elevator side where there is a guard that will not let you in that the elevator side. But, you can stand just outside the elevator side. 3. If you want to see a specific celebrity that is staring in a Broadway stage show, go to that theater early (especially on weekdays) and ask one of the theater employees where is the side entrance (not the main entrance) where the celebrities come in through and at what time do they arrive which can vary since some celebs come in hours before to put on make-up or costumes for the show. Others don't. 4. If you are a fan of basball (The Yankees, The Mets), you can find out when they are in town playing in their stadium and get tickets for The Yankees (in The Bronx) taking the 4 train to 161 Street or for The Mets to the stop called Citi Field on the 7 train. This way you can see some of the most famous athletes. 5. If you want to see a free live music concert from the top singers in the world, during the summer NBC TV network has free concerts near the ice rink in a court yard area in between buildings away from traffic in Rockefeller Center. These shows are presented by The Today Show in the morning during weekdays. Check listings to see when and who will be performing. 6. If you want to see celebrities being interviewed check 92 Y celebrity interviews on RUclips to get an idea of how that place is and call that place by Googling it to find out the upcoming schedule of future celebrity interviews. 7. If you are a Seinfeld fan, there is a Seinfeld bus tour that will take you to the famous real places mentioned on the Seinfeld Show. Google it. 8. If you want to go to the actual dive bar where Lady Gaga hangs out (and used to perform at before she became famous) go to 123 Rivingston Street in The Lower East Side of Manhattan. Google Map it. 9. If you are a fan of old Jazz and of Louis Armstrong, just Google Louis Armstrong house museum which is in Queens, New York across the river from Manhattan to actually walk around Louis house inside and see and touch his furniture which is still there the way he left it when he died. 10. If you want to visit the graves of some of the most famous celebrities in the history of this planet, just search on RUclips famous celebrity graves in New York City and look at those videos and pick which celebrity graves you want to see and just Google Map each individual cemetery that has those graves. Google at what time each cemetery opens and closes and go early to spend a quiet peaceful day walking around those iconic tomb stones. I hope my recommendations helped some of you. Remember to stay away from expensive overpriced places. Some of the best food in NYC are in ethnic neighborhoods like China Town in Manhattan, Little Italy on Mulberry street, the Latin Neighborhood of Washington Heights in Manhattan, the Russian neighborhood of Brighton Beach in Brooklyn and some hot spots like Ethiopian Food, Indian Food, Thai Food, and Philippines Food areas throughout the city. Cheers.
I live in Long Island but I’ve been to the city countless times. The best pizza in all of the boroughs is New Park Pizzeria located in Howard Beach, Queens. If you’re flying in to JFK, definitely stop at this spot, it’s right outside the airport.
I work at the 911 Tribute Musuem and I can really tell you it's a must see experience and a true show of what makes New York a special place and her people some of the most resilient in the world!
But please remember where you are. I see too many people forget themselves and clown around taking selfies and acting like it's a tourist attraction. Its NOT!! its sacred ground. Respect it!
"some of the most resilient in the world" - there are a lot of people in the world who have undergone and undergo much more hardship the New Yorkers and, indeed, Americans. It was a terrible event but please remember thuosands and thousands who experience hardship on a daily basis.
For people who love history, I recommend a guided tour of the Brooklyn Bridge. I did that last year, and the tour guide was excellent. Learning of the history behind the Brooklyn Bridge from what it was like before it was built and all the suffering that went into building it made the experience of walk so meaningful to me. The tour company was Inside-Out.
I cannot even tell you how much your videos helped. We just got back to small town Indiana from the big Apple. After watching your videos I totally felt like we did NYC right! Went to Chelsea got them tacos from Numero Uno! Learned the subway system, Brooklyn Bagel, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, ate at off the path restaurants. Even though our hotel was on Times Square we ventured out and didn’t stay confined to the tourist stuff. Thank you a thousand times man. Between you and “Clatt” I felt like I just knew what I was doing!
I always recommend (if they don't stay in brooklyn) to go first to brooklyn with the subway before going on to the brooklyn bridge. Maybe get an ice cream (italian style) and use the bridge to walk back to manhattan. That way you walk towards the skyline what I prefer instead of always turn back around. Keep up the great videos! As someone wanting to visit, I really like how you recommend "touristy" places anyway because they're just a fun experience "at least once". Perfect mix of recognizing newbie excitement and combining it with your local insight!! Thanks!!!!!! Really glad I found your channel!
Your videos helped my trip to NYC and we did have a great time, we also did it with 9 & 10 yr olds it really is a place for everyone. Will see a show next time though. We did not plan to see the memorial but being in that area felt like we had to and it is a must see. Love how patriotic 🇺🇸 is!
I am a life long Nu Yawker and I watch your vids all the time. Thank you for making me look heroic on my NYC dates and giving me locations for my photography.
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. One of my life goals has always been to visit NYC, however I feel so overwhelmed of how gargantuan it is. One of these days I’m going to make it happen. The pizza alone looks absolutely amazing!
I love New York's architecture and its massiveness! That's one of the reasons I use New York as background to my YT videos where I talk about living in USA from a perspective of a Polish girl;) With English subtitles obviously ;)
The very BEST , Cheapest way to see NYC is take the Madison Ave bus on the full route RT / Amazing to see All kinds of people & dialets .. perfect . We lived in NYC for 4 yrs in the 60’s .

Helpful! Because am here this weekend with my wife and it's her first time in the city. We've coincidentally already done several of your suggestions, and I think you and I must have similar tastes because all but one of your suggestions are in our plans.

John - I just returned from a two week graduation celebration trip (my daughter from UCLA) to NYC. She has always wanted to go there! I had a lot of time and fun in reviewing probably all of your videos and a bunch of the Traveling Clatt as well. Thanks a million for making and posting those videos - we packed so much into our time there and based much of what we did on the information you provided through your videos. We felt like it was a trip we will never forget and boldly explored NYC with confidence! Thanks again... even though the trip has ended I know I’ll still watch your posts (we actually left a couple things undone for next trip). Regards, Steve.
Pizza: Take the N train to 86th Street in Brooklyn and walk to L & B Spumoni Gardens for a classic Sicilian slice. Not only will you have your NY pizza, but you'll also ride the subway, which, for some reason, didn't make this list. As alternatives, or in addition, to Greenwich/West Village, wander around SoHo or again, take a B/Q, or F train to their respective Seventh Avenue stations (east end and west end, respectively) in Brooklyn and wander around Park Slope. Same cute shops and restaurants, but a little more traveled. During late Spring or Summer, head to Coney Island. Walk the boardwalk, take in the breeze, go on some rides, and enjoy hot dogs at Nathan's. Set out early though--in summer, it gets crowded by late morning.
We went for 4 nights, Went up the Rockefeller Center and did the tour, Went up Empire State and One world Trade. Did Ground Zero and museum. Did boat tour out to Statue of Liberty with tour guide, Times Square several times. Taxi to Yankies Stadium and watched NYCFC, Attended MSG to watch NY Kicks, Central park and saw Dekota building. Walked The Brooklyn bridge and photographed Manhattan at dusk from Dumbo. Visited Grand Central station. Shopped in Macys, Walked in China Town, Ate Pizza, Stake and Pancakes. Rode the Subway and as there were 4 of us, used the taxis often. Booked the bus tour, but didnt use it much. And lots in between. Fantastic visit.
As a native New Yorker. You forgot to mention getting a street pretzel or hotdog. Just part of the service timers experience that I think would be awesome sauce thank you for all your amazing work
My 1 and only visit to NYC was in 1975 - I was 12 years old. I had a dirty-water dog ( loaded :D ) and a can of cream soda for $1.25, at that time. Dinner that night was at Mama Leone's.
Unlike New Orleans, food is not a major topic to start a tour. I would put Grand Central and the Brooklyn Bridge as tops ( with David McCulloch’s “The Great Bridge” to understand the unbelievable engineering by which Roebling created suspension bridges). The Cloisters. A Staten Island ferry ride for the view of manhattan . Rockefeller Center.
Hi ! I’ve been in NYC this month and I want to thank you for all your advices. It was my second trip to the big apple and I enjoyed it much more this time thanks to your so precious items. I will continue to listen to go again ! So many things to discover in this incredible city that I really love 😃
Yes. Thank you for those suggestions. Knowing the cost of these visits helps me to have an idea of the cost of visiting for a week in addition to traveling and hotel expenses.
We visited for the first time at the end of March. We literally did everything on this list except a museum. We came on a limited time for a play so we didn't have time. Still, great list man. Would highly recommend. I would also add taking the Staten Island ferry, that was fun.
im from australia and am planing a trip around america with family and friends when we can travel again and this video will help me to plan fun stuff to do when we get to nyc
John, thank you for the great ideas. My family and I are making our first trip to NYC over the Labor Day weekend and we'll definitely use some of your suggestions.
Listen to this guy. He knows what he is talking about. If I’d add anything, I add this: start at the battery and walk.... walk upwards through all the neighborhoods, including Chinatown and Soho, and all the way to the upper east or west side to one if the museums. NYC is an aggregation of neighborhoods, and the bast way to see them is to walk them with a subway stop here and there. Good advice here if limited in time. Of course, one can never leave Manhattan (and many never do) and live a remarkable life. Short on theme? His advice is sound. One note: many of the major museums are free. The charge you will see is discretionary. Simply pay what you can afford,, and go. One often doesn’t have to pay the price suggested. It’s a suggestion, not mandatory. Read the fine print at admissions. Offer $5 and off you go.
I have been itching for a Nee York trip. Visited the airport more times than I can count but it doesn’t count in visiting New York! I have to go!!!! Love traveling and blending into a crowd. Seems easy here. I absolutely love your guide. I’ll be using it for sure. Thanks!
Great tips. Regarding the pizza, you definitely need to travel to Napels, best pizza is in Italy & Brazil (yes Brazil, insane Italian community and kitchen influence in São Paulo / Rio etc)
I am in Australia and I would love to go to New York one day, this was so very helpful thank you for all the great information. New York looks amazing,.
I'm from the Albany area, but went to a place in NYC called Bravo Pizza near Times Square. Best boffola chicken pizza ,garlic nots and mozzarella sticks I've ever had.

I love this video, and I love the jazz music in the background. I have only seen Times Square when I was there for one weekend, so there is much more to me to see the next time I go to NYC!
Have done every one of those 12 things over the course of 3 1/2 weeks (in two trips). NYC pizza is hands down some of the best pizza I've ever had. Rockefeller definitely better than Empire State Building. Mate my heart forever belongs to your city and your videos just remind me why. Never stop!
@@georgebethos7890 I lived in the Bronx when they took the old stadium down and built the new one right next to it. The history may be gone, but it's still the home of the Yankees and I still love going to see them play. -Brian

Perfect mix of recognizing newbie excitement and combining it with your local insight!! Thanks!!!!!! Really glad I found your channel!
I lived in New York for one year and three months. So that was the best time of my life.I am looking forward to go back.
One of the best little known museums is the Tenement Museum. Take one of the tours that they offer. They are wonderful.
I need to go actually
@@HereBeBarr You should go. Right up your alley. You will love it.
The main reason I'm going to New York in Oct 2021 is to do a pizza tour. Can't wait
Thanks for the video and thank you everyone for the comments , so many great tips.
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. One of my life goals has always been to visit NYC, however I feel so overwhelmed of how gargantuan it is. One of these days I’m going to make it happen. The pizza alone looks absolutely amazing!
ty man this video helped me complete my homework
Love ur channel and the city. But, best pizza in the world? Maybe outside of Italy.
I love New York's architecture and its massiveness! That's one of the reasons I use New York as background to my YT videos where I talk about living in USA from a perspective of a Polish girl;) With English subtitles obviously ;)
Wow, so amazing!! Thx for the tips. Ill be going soon but only for 3 days. Ill try to go to as many places as I can.
Thank for the tips to travel New York City! You are great in the podcast!
Good advices, man! Thank you so much.
The Vdo is truly like visiting NYC sitting in armchair at my home in Kolkata, India.
The very BEST , Cheapest way to see NYC is take the Madison Ave bus on the full route RT / Amazing to see
All kinds of people & dialets .. perfect . We lived in NYC for 4 yrs in the 60’s .
I've actually done all of these things! Glad to know that I haven't missed much.
Trying to plan a trip for my bday.. thank you for all the helpful tips
Times Square at midnight is *incredible* ! I'm so glad I got to see it when I was there!
Together
New York City looks great!
You read my mind, I'm counting down to my first trip to NY very soon, can't wait to do all these these things. Thanks for all the great NY advice as always!
No problem !!
Me too! Headed there in 2 weeks!
How was it? When did you go?
Went in September 2019! One of the best trips I've ever had, had the most fun and used so many of Jon's brilliant recommendations! Can't wait to go back again asap!
It’s on my bucket list! Just waiting for direct flights from my hometown to be back again!
Helpful! Because am here this weekend with my wife and it's her first time in the city. We've coincidentally already done several of your suggestions, and I think you and I must have similar tastes because all but one of your suggestions are in our plans.
Take her to Bloomingdales and Tiffany's
13 months on from my 4th visit to the best city in the world!! When we see the back of COVID this is my flight. See you at the dead rabbit!? Thanks for the video to keep my withdrawals at bay...
I like this video because it isnt basic like the other ones and i actually learned something
When you are at grand central station, you can take the elevator to the fourth floor and see an indoor tennis court. It’s Vanderbilt tennis club.
Right you are about Bleecker Street Pizza, John! Sitting there eating a slice of Nonna Marie and Mushroom right now. 👍
@@MrSteve420b was it good?
Yo John
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022
BRO
Going next month this video has me hyped asf
how was it....
I recommend going to Madison Square Garden. The World's Most Famous Arena
Hi ! I’ve been in NYC this month and I want to thank you for all your advices. It was my second trip to the big apple and I enjoyed it much more this time thanks to your so precious items. I will continue to listen to go again ! So many things to discover in this incredible city that I really love 😃
Hi 👋 😊
I would also add taking the Staten Island ferry, that was fun.
that's mentioned in the video
im from australia and am planing a trip around america with family and friends when we can travel again and this video will help me to plan fun stuff to do when we get to nyc
Thank you very much for your kind attention to New York tourist spots.
Going to New York soon for the first time. Thanks for the info
Spot on with the locals avoiding Times Square. Unfortunately I work in Times Square so I can’t avoid it. Great video!
Why should locals avoid it?
Ellens Stardust. The waiters singers are amazing!!!!!
John, thank you for the great ideas. My family and I are making our first trip to NYC over the Labor Day weekend and we'll definitely use some of your suggestions.
Thanks for sharing! Nice videooo🎉😍
Here be barr is the my favourite you tube channel
Great work and Nice video thanks
Thanks for lot of information ❤
I have been itching for a Nee York trip. Visited the airport more times than I can count but it doesn’t count in visiting New York! I have to go!!!! Love traveling and blending into a crowd. Seems easy here. I absolutely love your guide. I’ll be using it for sure. Thanks!
Great tips. Regarding the pizza, you definitely need to travel to Napels, best pizza is in Italy & Brazil (yes Brazil, insane Italian community and kitchen influence in São Paulo / Rio etc)
Now let's not get too excited with the best pizza thing (Italian here :D) but the video is so useful! Thank you!
Only pizza in Napoli is real pizza
Thank you so much 🎉 That was great information about what place there in Newyourk is
I am in Australia and I would love to go to New York one day, this was so very helpful thank you for all the great information. New York looks amazing,.
It is! I grew up in Brooklyn and now live in Puerto Rico, which is also amazing, but my heart is beating for New York.
I'm from the Albany area, but went to a place in NYC called Bravo Pizza near Times Square. Best boffola chicken pizza ,garlic nots and mozzarella sticks I've ever had.
"New York has the best Pizza in the world"
And this is when Italy declared war
INTERESTING & HELPFULL.THANK YOU
This video is absolutely what I needed right now because I was planning my first trip to New York city and I can't do it just because of the coronavirus. I started to follow this channel. Regards from Tuscany!
Stay safe and feel free to binge watch my channel to pass the time in Italy during this tough period.
@@HereBeBarr thank you man!
"While most locals shudder at the thought of Times Square" lolol. It's funny because it's true.
5:39 made me do a double take. I always forget you have a twin brother.
😂
Great video 💯🙏🏽👍🏽🙌🏽
So happy that in my first trip to NYC I did all of these things. Such a marvelous experience 🙌🏼
How much did that cost you?
Yea how much was it all
I love this video, and I love the jazz music in the background. I have only seen Times Square when I was there for one weekend, so there is much more to me to see the next time I go to NYC!
Hi Kim
Have done every one of those 12 things over the course of 3 1/2 weeks (in two trips). NYC pizza is hands down some of the best pizza I've ever had. Rockefeller definitely better than Empire State Building. Mate my heart forever belongs to your city and your videos just remind me why. Never stop!
NYC is the best city ever! Been there a Million times! ❤️
Great video. I think you hit everything I was hoping you would. Maybe I'd add Yankee Stadium if it's during the season. -Brian
Thanks Brian :) I'd go to a game with you if you're back.
Yankee stadium is gone dude where have you been for the last few years?
@@georgebethos7890 I lived in the Bronx when they took the old stadium down and built the new one right next to it. The history may be gone, but it's still the home of the Yankees and I still love going to see them play. -Brian
If you want baseball cheap and easy in NYC, check out the Yankees' and Mets' minor league teams. Yanks play in Staten Island - you get there by the free ferry. Mets play in Coney Island, which is another must-see place in NYC.
Thanks for sharing. Welcome to US
Pls make a video on the East Village of NY especially on the places where Punk music was born. Thanks.
I did an east village video last year, check it out.
I just saw this show called Art Continuum Experience.in Tribeca. WOW!. I think its up for the summer. A must do this after this pandemic.
We just took our second trip to New York this past July!! Did almost everything on your list ( we vlogged everything!) We cant wait to go back!!! Southern California girl who is in love with NY!!!!
Hi 👋
Thanks for the suggestions! I didn't get to do all of it, but I did enjoy my visit in NYC.
Bravos has good pizza. The $1 pizza was good too. I had some horrible pizza in Little Italy.
Great video! I’m visiting in July. I’m so excited! We will do some of these things! 😍
