      Right? This could easily be nothing more than conspiracy theory nonsense, but I feel like if a game gets too close to a Nintendo IP the company tries their best to ignore it. Like they'll let it come to the system but they won't promote it or anything. They let this one slip by without a word despite it looking good enough to be in a Nindies Showcase, easily.

      Arlo nah, this game had its fair time in the spotlight and made the most of it. The developers couldn’t be happier with their switch results. It’s also been on sale at a delicious price. You guys were just sleeping on it.

    Also, the feeling of releasing a new video, that you know thousands of people are going to watch and have their own different opinions about, is incredibly nerve racking and at times scary. But at least my videos only take a couple days to make, I can't imagine working weeks, months or YEARS on a game, then having no one like it or talk trash about it. So yeah, I agree. HUGE respect for game creators who try their hardest.

    Aw, geez dude... I'm an indie developer who's published a game online (not Switch, sorry) for free and am working to turn it into a career. My game and company haven't gotten much recognition yet, but I take what I do very seriously, study the good practices, and do everything I can to make sure my end products are nice and polished. And your bit at the end felt like it was aimed right at me and darn near brought a tear to my eye. That's never happened to me like that before. I mean, geez...

    Nintendo needs to keep up not just letting ALL indies on the Switch. Pick the decent to great ones and leave out all the rest. They had it right early on with how strict they were, they just needed to make sure they weren’t strict to the wrong games.
    Secondly, they need to revamp the eshop and make it easier to look for stuff, as well as enough advertising for the good and decent ones (which should be most of them if they stay strict). As we get more games, this becomes more and more necessary.

  • @Stephen-Fox
    @Stephen-Fox 6 лет назад +104

    The thing that I'm most worried about going forward with the Switch eShop is that there aren't that many tools there for discovering old games that aren't currently on sale or have managed to stay in the best sellers for donks. If things keep going at the current pace - around 10-20 games a week - the new stuff has a chance to be found, but new purchasers of the Switch won't necessarily know to search for Golf Story, Celeste, or Dandara, next year unless they find out about those games outside of the Switch itself. (Though the comments Nintendo have made about only being as restrictive as they currently are being with dev kits due to them being in short supply right now also leaves me nervous for that going forward)
    (I also think an advantage indies have on Switch over PS4, at least, is that the eShop doesn't promote the latest AAA third party game, or even the latest Nintendo game, over a small unassuming $5 indie that might be exactly what you want, like it often feels like Sony does when I wind up popping onto that digital storefront, I don't think even on release day I've been able to just grab a smaller title without having to go through the search page there - one of the main pages is sorted by release date, one is sorted by current sales trends (Where it's rare to not see Stardew Valley in the top five - it's currently #3 in the UK, incidentally, behind Minecraft and the Spreadsheets: The Game that is Football Manager))

    • @TonyJenn
      @TonyJenn 6 лет назад +2

      Gizensha Fox there's no perfect solution to this issue. As new games come, older games will lose visibility. Thats gonna happen. Word of mouth and social will be needed to help keep those games in the limelight. Plus that comment about dev kits availability is pretty old as that's not really much of an issue anymore.

    • @mikep9903
      @mikep9903 6 лет назад +1

      I agree about games being hard to filter and getting lost! There are some great ones out there too, and the best part is you can grab a few for the price of one AAA titles!
      There is a website dedicated to indie game reviews called **NindieNexus.net** that helps filter out what indie titles are worth purchasing. It helps! Also checking out the **Nintendo switch sub Reddit** usually has really great suggestions too!
      Support indie devs and support Nintendo for this awesome console!

    • @stwbmc98

      What the Switch eShop needs is a home page with categories, like the eShops of the past. If you’re looking for a game of a certain genre or style, you can find it from the home page.
      Also, the parentheses are unnecessary.

    • @KuraIthys
      @KuraIthys 6 лет назад

      Yeah, I noticed looking at the eshop just now that it listed something like 589 titles so far, but the way it's organised means unless you know what you're looking for by name, good luck finding anything at all that isn't in the top 50 or so most recent / most popular games.
      That's maybe 1/5th of the current library at most that's easy to find, and that's only going to get worse as more stuff appears...

    I think you should be able to downvote games. The ones that get downvoted a bunch, they should be pushed away, and the Odysseys and the BOTW should stay visible. And Nindie games should have their own tab where the best games are in the public eyes and new games that are quality tested by Nintendo are pushed to consumers. And the shit games get pushed to the bottom where you can't find it. More trailers and screenshots as well

    • @tristanneal9552
      @tristanneal9552 6 лет назад +20

      Taylor Jones But what about new games? A week in the new games list won’t give it time to catch up to the upvotes of other games even if it deserves it, so it’ll end up still getting buried.

    • @VGJustice
      @VGJustice 6 лет назад +27

      There's also the possibility of people review bombing a game for something unrelated. It can be really unfair, and if their game gets pushed right off the store front because of that, then how many GOOD people lose out?
      Why not just a downvote system where, when a game goes far enough, someone at Nintendo takes a closer look at the game? Or, like Arlo is suggesting, a more heavily curated storefront to week out the bad games before they even make it to the shelf.

    • @undisclosedsteve6361
      @undisclosedsteve6361 6 лет назад +1

      Tristan Neal That's why I would want Nintendo to be more hands on with choosing those high profile games. Also, you can upvote when the games are in the "Upcoming games" section, for games that look decent, so again, the trash gets filtered down. I think the process would go Nintendo decides if it's a piece of shit asset flip, then those games get put in new games, then we vote over the month, and they rearrange slowly. And idk about that buying black market likes, but this, again, would need more hands on from Nintendo, just like Steam needs

It's one of the few aspects where the Switch is a step down from Wii U and I hope it's resolved soon.

    • @Silentgrace11
      @Silentgrace11 6 лет назад +2

      Eh, it depends on the game. Some linear style, story line games may not have a good spot to throw you into the fray without revealing plot information or just being really crunch-heavy, so having them start at the beginning isn’t a bad idea. If it’s a game with multiple levels without much story context within them (ie the N. Sane Trilogy, although I have no doubt there are others that aren’t just a game remake) then it’s a lot easier to just throw someone into an easier level for the demo.
      There’s always the option of just making a simple battle demo separate from the main game, but sometimes a developer, especially a smaller one, may not have the time or funds allocated for that.

    Here's a few things they could do to make the eshop better:
    - Let you sort through all games from a developer/publisher by clicking on (or searching for) their name.
    - Rating system where you can exclude games below a certain rating when searching.
    - Honestly.. Maybe a tag-system? Not sure about that one, but it could be good.
