It's a decent mindset. He is not holding out vain hopes of a true to form paper mario game, but he is ready to go for it if one is announced. Edit: It's honestly the mindset I have now.
Toaf Loast I think everyone feels like the old (good) Paper Mario is dead. We still won't be happy if they announce Paper Mario "Sticker Star 3" for Switch.
I like how everyone came back to this video after the announcement of Origami King, and then now everyone’s coming back to this video for the exact opposite reason
How did they fix Tennis and Party? I haven't kept up recently. Does Mario Party still make you follow around others in that stupid car? If it does, its far from fixed. I'm independent >.>
@@Nik-zb7kr mario tennis aces got new abilities that makes the game fun and can be turned off, a story mode and lots of cool characters with different abilities The car is now DEAD, so the game is enjoyable again
I think it's likely that the results of that Club Nintendo survey are due to most people just rushing through the survey to earn their points rather than filling it out honestly
CremeCheeseBagel I was gonna bring that up too. I found out that less than 1% gave a shit about the story and was like, THAT'S STRAIGHT UP BULL. Sadly it was true. I really hold Club Nintendo Japan responsible, I wish they wouldve asked Club Nintendo America because I wouldve gave a "HELL YA, ALWAYS INCLUDE STORY IN PAPER MARIO!"
Kairu Hakubi In japan? Because in America I got as long as I wanted as long as I didnt type in the code that was in the box marked "Club Nintendo", those things have a really long expiration date. So much so I was able to use all my friend's codes that she didnt give two shits about (which got me big rewards) Even then, when filling out those surveys I took SOME time (even though there were like 50). I answered all the questions but left things like problems or feedback "N/A" if it was a series that i didnt play.
Well sure, but most people put in the code right away when they bought it, and at that point you only have a short time to put in your review.. meaning most people didn't get to actually give a review when they had PLAYED IT yet. Chances are they were all just salty that the gameplay was changed
If they made a Paper Mario with The Thousand Year Door game play with Super's story, I would buy that in a second. Shame that would most likely not happen anytime soon though. Super Paper Mario was truly the last good Paper Mario game.
Issue is that Nintendo likes to use these to appeal to kids and they just ignore the larger audience who love these games... They see them as spin-offs that they don't need to try as hard on, unlike Odyssey and such. I'd love to hold out hope for some true sequels but we probably have to accept that it won't happen.
There's a starman waiting in the sky super paper mario was my first paper mario game. I then got sticker star, thinking it was gonna be good like super, but it was a major let down. I then went back and played the old ones on vc, then some real cartridges that my cousins had. I agree though, super was the last good game. color splash was bad in my opinion and I didn't like sticker star.
There's a starman waiting in the sky I didn’t like Super Paper Mario when it came out because it was incredibly short and easy, and got rid of the RPG mechanics, but now I’d be glad if Nintendo went back to that style
Now, if they could take Colour Splash's artstyle and apply it to something like Paper Mario TTYD, that wouldn't be a bad idea in my eyes. We already know that Mario and Luigi has been getting remakes recently. At this point, if they're not going to go back to the old style, the least they could do is make the old fans somewhat content with a remake of the best Paper Mario game.
I'm honestly torn between which artstyle to like better. Don't just remake the game though. Add to it. They could give use an additional post game quest, and maybe a comedic side story based around Luigi's adventure. *AND MAKE PRINCE MUSH A BONUS BOSS!!*
Minus Bros. No, I HATE the Color Splash art style. The Graphics are amazing, but I hate the theme they're going for. EVERYTHING'S PAPER. Paper Mario was not made to be Mario featuring Paper, it was Mario Story! By having the Paper aesthetic it contradicts what we want in a Paper Mario Game. We want Mario STORY! Not PAPER Mario.
Paper Mario can still have a good story with paper. But I prefer it as an aesthetic. Wasn't paper Mario meant to be a book? Which is why everything looks like paper? Lol.
Arlo, I see your strategy: Since Nintendo always does the opposite of what you say, you do an episode saying Paper Mario is dead so they HAVE to make one. Clever.
They wanted to gear Paper Mario toward kids. Here’s the thing - it already was perfect for kids! My story with Paper Mario: I was 5 and my sister was 7. It was 2001. We rented Paper Mario from Blockbuster. We got stuck in the very beginning (I think we couldn’t find Goompa’s hammer). We were disappointed, as it lacked the straightforward fun of Super Mario 64. Eventually, we gave it another shot. We either rented the game again or bought it (or it was a gift; I’m not really sure). We fell in love with it. My sister and I would play for hours at a time, getting lost in the story. I couldn’t really read, so she had to read everything out loud. Like I said, she was 7, so she mispronounced most things. We still laugh about how we thought “Repel Gel” was pronounced with a hard ‘g’. We loved Thousand Year Door, were mildly put off by Super Paper Mario, and pretty much abandoned the series after that. I’m currently playing the original with my wife, who has never played it. I turned it on one day and I got a kick out of my wife’s first time holding an N64 controller, as she held the outside prongs and tried to reach across to the control stick. It was pretty hilarious. She also laughed about how blurry the graphics were. We ended up playing for 3 and a half hours straight, getting engrossed in the story. Playing the game today, I am surprised about how much I remember from my childhood. I’m perhaps more surprised by the fact that my sister and I were able to figure out the intricacies of this game at the ages of 5 and 7. The game respects the player and doesn’t dumb down its language nor its humor. It encourages exploration rather than holding your hand. Instead of reducing itself to a digestible, surface level enjoyment, it brings the maturity out of its younger players and creates a happy medium between its diverse customer base. It finds this balance in its sense of adventure and enthusiasm for creativity. Few games have had this magical impact on me, and I believe others share this sentiment. It’s why we care so much for this franchise and hope that its central qualities are resurrected in future games, whether in the next Paper Mario installment or in the gaming industry at-large.
I agree. I wasn't born in the 90's, rather early 2000's (2005 to be exact). I heard about this game online somewhere (most likely Stryder7x) and wanted to play it. The second I got it on my emulator and played it, I was hooked. It's currently my favorite video game, and I'm even already speedrunning it. The original Paper Mario is a masterpiece.
Ok. Let’s assume you got married the day you posted this comment, (it’s over a year ago so I can’t see, but I’ll say the first of April 2019) you got married at 24. That’s being very generous probably at 20-23 so darn.
Arty Castro yeah but what I think Miyamoto is trying to say is that little kids need a simple story or not even one. But the thing is, we love stories even when I was 6, and Super Paper Mario is the thing that got me into storytelling, with a few other helpful things such as movies and whatnot.
Woah, Koizumi was behind some of my favorite games' stories of all time? Thanks for explaining why I should really respect this guy's impact on the company and their games!
Nintendo Mii Lp Cocky? How so. It's not made for the core Mario fans. It's made for little children and people who haven't played a Mario game before. The game is probably the easiest a Mario game has ever been. Not even the final level you unlock when you get 500 moons was that hard. Well over half the moons are filler and require no thought or challenge. This is probably my second least favorite 3d Mario ever with 3d Land being the worst. Watch Joseph Anderson's review if you want a review from someone who knows what they're talking about.
Kiz Epic Journey Im sorry but I don’t count your favorite RUclipsrs review as reliable sources try something else and as far as easy goes it seems someone hasn’t played the last few Mario games in the past like 11 years Odyssey is no different as far as difficulty these games are made for everyone Paper Jam was the only Mario game that tried being difficult and people didn’t like that so it makes sense why they’d walk down the easy road the whole “it’s easy” Excuse Is a load of bullshit just to dislike a game Thousand year Door was easy and so was Galaxy and the only challenging level in Galaxy 2 was the final and same goes for 3D world but people enjoy those games hell even BOTW was easy now u don’t have too like the game but if your gonna deny it’s success and the majority of people who do like it then your just being petty and stupid and treating your personal feelings towards a game as fact than your someone that has stupidity written all over your forhead
I want a Paper Luigi. He had such a cool adventure, that he would tell you about, during each chapter of TTYD. I want to play a game, that takes place during his adventure. Each time he finishes a chapter in his adventure, he can travel back to the dock in TTYD, to tell Mario about his adventure, for continuity between the two games. Also, I want a Paper Luigi that takes during Super Paper Mario, as well.
Tbh I'm actually lowkey hoping for a Thousand Year Door HD remake, with a bonus adventure that goes through Luigi's respective adventure. Basically what they're doing with the Mario and Luigi 3ds remakes.
it's such a tragedy that Super Paper Mario gets such a bad rap since it's viewed as the beginning of the end for the series. That game is excellent, and stays true to the spirit of the previous two games in all things but the Gameplay, which was so radically changed.
What's a tragedy is that the series has gotten butchered so badly that "stays true to the previous games in all but the GAMEPLAY" is a reasonable comment lol
Super Paper Mario is my favorite video game. The first two are fantastic, but I just liked SPM better. The story is GREAT, and I LOVE games with great story! People mostly don't like it because it's different than the originals, but that doesn't make it a bad game. Yeah, it's different, but it's still very good. The gameplay is different, but it's not BAD. I think people should stop judging SPM by comparison to the originals, and start judging it as it's own game.
they improved battle in super. i dont like turn based because when you need to get somewhere in a hurry, and there are a lot of enemies around you, you are gonna slow down a lot if you have to fight them turn based. with normal time combat however is good because you can just stomp on them or hit them with a hammer right then and there, and they'll just die. plus, the oringinal 2d games, and even the 3d ones use normal time combat, and i really like it. so there
Whenever I hear about anyone--particularly video game developers--dumbing something down this way to "appeal to kids," I have to wonder if they've ever met a child. The first Paper Mario titles were perfect for ALL ages. How many of us were 7-10 playing them for the first time? How many of us still connected to the charming characters and developed storylines? Kids aren't stupid. They love to be engaged by carefully-crafted mechanics, puzzles, and a creative story. A kid's favorite way to wind down at the end of the night is to be told a story. They naturally enjoy being whisked off to fantasy worlds through reading or creating their own characters and stories. The implication that kids won't like a video game if it has depth or plot is frankly absurd and shows just how out of touch with kids some developers are, and it's particularly bad when it's Nintendo, which is supposed to be the most "all-ages" of the bunch.
I’m not an adult (I’m not giving you my age), and yeah the whole basic bowser plot is starting to get real old. As a huge Mario and Luigi fan I always thought to myself “what if paper bowser stole real Peach and bowser Jr, and vice versa for real bowser. Or what if the jrs betrayed there fathers,” when I played paper jam.
Right? The original Paper Mario is perfectly kid friendly-- I'm sure I beat it before I turned 10. In fact, Paper Mario was the only "story" game that I ever *replayed* as a kid, start to finish. And replaying an N64 game 4 times is a pretty big deal coming from a casual gamer like me who had to share the console with three older siblings! I really don't get how they think dumbing the story down and adding puzzles makes it more kid/casual friendly.
Man, these videos about Paper Mario make me so sad. But Odyssey surprised me so much! Who would have guessed that a game like that would come after 3D Land and 3D World? I'm still rooting for a new Paper Mario like the first two, even if it's unlikely.
The problem is that even if a new PM-game will be announced, it is very likely that it is made by the same team who developed SS and CS which consists of people where most of them never even played the original games.
I hope the next Paper Mario will be so good, it'll make a lot of people forget Odyssey's ending because............................ admit it... to you who is reading my comment, I know there's a 70% chance that you're a f*ckface who overreacted to Peach rejecting Mario's flowers and falsely accuse her of "ditching" him.
It's funny, I remember seeing your reaction to Yoshiaki Koizumi in the Nintendo Switch Live Presentation and going "who is this guy, why haven't we heard of you before?", and now you're singing his praises! ...Granted, I was in the same boat of not knowing who he was and finding out some time later, but yeah, he's actually been working his way to the top for quite some time, and out of all the people who Nintendo decided to put in charge of the Switch, I'm glad it was this guy!
I have an idea. Just remake the original game in HD with enhanced music, extra levels and extra members. A second storyline also to connect to the rise of the thousand year door.
I'd love to believe that there will be another Paper Mario game like 64 and TTYD but... I can't. I'm sorry but, if Tanabe is producing the next game, it's a red flag for me. That comment about making the game for the 7 to 10-year old demographic was very pitiful for multiple reasons.
Except Tanabe is directly behind LM3. If another Paper Mario game is in the works, I doubt Tanabe is behind it because there is no way he'd work on two games at once.
Wow. Koizumi has been doing everything I loved the most out of some of my all-time favourite games for years now and I wasn't even aware of him. Thank you so much for bringing him to my attention, Arlo!
To be honest, I’m not sure why they changed such a loved series so drastically. I still can’t come up with a logical reason for the complete change despite everyone loving old mechanics. Color Splash wasn’t as linear, but the story after Super began to slip. Just my opinion tho
NintenDude Because I guess they think change is automatically good no matter what change they bring to a series. Well sticker star and color splash pretty much serve as prime examples of when change can be a bad thing.
Uh, yeah, pretty much. Nintendo as a company is sort of unique to the extent they're willing to change up old properties, and (perhaps as a consequence of how often they're accused of 'coasting' on Mario, Zelda et al) often see change for change's own sake as a good thing. Sometimes that turns out well, and leaves them as a breath of fresh air in comparison to their competition. Sometimes it interfaces poorly with some of their other hangups (Miyamoto's slavish devotion to simplicity, a desire to appeal to the general populous, a fierce desire to avoid seeming controversial, etc.) and leads to shit like Sticker Star. It's a balancing act. Their willingness to change is a unique strength to the company, but also means they sometimes ditch what any other company would consider invaluable strengths.
Nintendo’s philosophy changed after the Wii’s fluke success. They forgot about making their games for people who wanted to play them and made them to draw in the casuals, and the kids. All of their games changed right around then, in smaller or bigger ways.
I loved Super Paper Mario, it was my first Paper Mario game and I was just so swept up in the story and characters. I had no idea a Mario game could be so involving. I don't mind how they do the next Paper Mario as long as they focus on story.
Hey. That game was MY first paper mario game too. Dimentio. But, I have to disagree on the not caring where the gameplay goes though. I think paper mario should return to its roots.
the first 3 games are still the only true paper mario games for me in my opinion, sticker star and color splash were simply not as memorable as the first ones.
A fallen warrior. R.I.P Paper Mario. 2000-2012 It turned from an amazing game to sticker Yu-gi-oh. (Color Splash was actual Yu-gi-oh) Edit: For the salty Yu-gi-oh fans in the reply section, this was a joke!
Yugioh is a very fast game and a very oppressive one. You basically win by having the unfairest tactics possible to shut down or obliterate your opponent. Paper Mario strategy shouldn't get nearly that complex, but there should be strategies to keep things fun.
I havemt bought a paper mario game since sticker star and i was so dissapointed by sticker star that inever bought colour splash but ove pre ordered origami king and i hope its amazing
Super paper Mario is probably my favorite paper Mario, actually. The story was phenomenally entertaining and it didn't really suffer for dropping the admittedly fantastic take on turn-based combat.
maybe the other 99% voted for the classic battle system lol the next paper mario game will go back to its routes i feel as nintendo finally has the worlds attention again and will most likley not want to release another slap to the face of us die hard pm fans
Super Paper Mario might have been the most different but it is my favorite Paper Mario because it has an amazing story, and that's mainly because I love deep stories and lore, which is why I hate sticker star and think color splash is ok. Paper Mario probably won't get any batter if they don't listen to the fans. If they just make more games like sticker star I am going to lose ALL hope for Paper Mario... As if I have any left.
Builder Bumpers Gaming I love games with a great story, the first Paper Mario is like they took the basic plot of the original Super Mario Bros (& by extension most of the games in the main series) & gave it steroids, Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door blew the story out of the water with it's awesome lore, Super Paper Mario was like a new breed of the same species of the story/lore of Thousand Year Door
actually i would prefer a sequel to super paper mario than another game in the traditional style. I mean... even if its hard to admit, the gameplay is very similar to mario & luigi, and i actually prefer the combat in mario & Luigi because there is a lot more to manage with two characters that can attack, dodge, and receive damage. Super paper mario was more like "what if traditional mario was an rpg" with 2d sections, and all the combat in real time. I think thats pretty cool
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door wasnt just loved for the story its self but the setting was so unusual for Mario and really interesting and unique because of that. In alot of Mario games you have the Mushroom Kingdom, a desert world, a tropical world, a lava world and so on, with ttyd you get non of that. The main hub is a thug town with a Pianta Mafia and a stand to hang people in the center. The Japanese version had a chalk out line of a Toad implying it was murdered and their is bars and graffiti and you get around through the sewers. And that is only the Hub world. There is a grassy medow village, sure. But that Village is terorised by a Dragon that lives in a Castle that eats the people there. The Boggly Woods doesnt look at all like and forest in any game and then you move to Mario becoming a professional wrestler... I could stop there but there is a Pirate treasure Hunt very much like the Goonies, an Murder Mystery style level on a train, a really creepy twilight town where Mario's identity is stollen and then Mario goes to the Moon. I miss this type of creativity.
@@adamkogut6084 I agree. Miyamoto got to big for his own good and stripped away the creativity Mario had. I think with Mario Odyssey he is heading back in the right direction though.
@@zacharykim295 I agree, Mario having a water jetpack, Link being all cartoony, Metroid being experimental enough to go into a first person veiw was insane back then but it worked. I agree.
Super Paper Mario was an outstanding spin-off that never got marketed as a spin-off and was thus burdened with the weight of being a sequel thousand year door.
How about a Mario role playing trio? 1) A true sequel to Paper Mario TTYD. 2) Super Paper Mario 2. Longer than the first one, more difficult and with more puzzles. 3) Super Mario RPG2. Developed by Square with 16 bit style graphics (maybe switchable graphics modes between 16 bit and modern HD?). All three with their own set of unique amibos.
Honestly, I'd prefer they go all the way back to Super Mario RPG and try something more in that vein....perhaps with a different art style than Paper Mario had. Paper Mario just didn't hit me the same as SMRPG and it could have been the art style and reduction to 2 PCs in combat, but overall it just didn't have the wow factor for me like SMRPG did.
Funny this popped up in my feed after I watched you die and resurrect when they announced the thousand year door remake. Sometimes, not always but occasionally, hope is rewarded.
Nintendo Beyond Yeah. It was very funny. But at the same time, it felt kinda weird since we all believed that was true story in the past(except for the lizard part, wizard part and etc) and now we know he wasn't the main and only issue with the series going down the drain.
Dimentio was one of the greatest villains ever created in the Mario universe. His methods range to that of a Dr Strange villain then to that of a Mario villain He wants to merge dimensions together because his holy cult book The Dark Prognosticus demands that they be merged and in the inevitable chaos it will bring forth a brand new world where only the strongest will be able to survive the massive culture shift during the dimension distortion. And as a being of pure chaos he relishes at the idea of it because his entire body is just concentrated dark energy. In a lot of ways he like Klarion the Witch Boy a powerful sorcerer with no concept of order or upbringing only mindless chaos
16:50 Uhm... *WHAT?!?!* I *loved* the Story in Super Paper Mario! The Gameplay was surely not as good and tight as in Paper Mario 1+2, but the Story made it still to a great Paper Mario (that, and the combat and gameplay wasn't all too bad) Also, I once borrowed Sticker Star from my best friends sister, gave it back to her after a few days, couldn't play it for longer than 3 hours, and couldn't play further than the first boss, it was just too bad. Then, about a year later, I bought the game in store, thinking to myself: "It probably wasn't so bad, and I just overreacted" I refunded it the day after, it was as horrible as I remembered...
They should put Kensuke Tanabe on a team to make an original IP or game for children so somebody else can make a good Paper Mario. There is nothing wrong with having some games targeting young children, they just should not be IPs with an existing audience that is not composed of young children.
Nintendo needs to stop emphasizing on the whole paper theme and go back to RPG/story > Paper and Stickers. Thousand year door had the perfect balance of this where we had Mario turn to a paper plane etc but the main core was turn base combat with fun RPG elements. Paper Mario was more than just paper. The good ol days.
Overblowing the paper element won't automatically make the game not good. But I still prefer for them to just keep the paper idea as an aesthetic choice. Like ttyd.
It's possible that BotW had so many fresh, new ideas because Nintendo had been suppressing them for so many years, and people were finally allowed the freedom they needed to let them come to light.
Callinater Open world games all boil down to: action rpgs, action adventure, and fps. Action adventure open world games are nothing new. See: horizon zero dawn, tomb raider, infamous, red dead redemption, prototype, assassins creed etc. Nintendo just hopped on a popular gaming trend. It isn’t innovation
btlaalnt the nto brneint baotu wpappens brekai link become week psus who dies to easy withw a never cade befor and re color boss lame trials remove dugnes no just no ther hit ton black lahs about no dugnes in btow dude
I'm sure we'll get a good Paper Mario game. there's no way they'd make another experimental game after the backlash Color Splash got. despite being a decent improvement of Sticker Star.
Jeremy Knight I hope so. I enjoyed Sticker Star for what it was but it wasn't paper Mario. Even the Mario and Luigi games are faltering right now it seems. Paper Jam isn't really all that great.
Yeah, I hear that Mario and Luigi games from Dream Team onwards have been simplified. I haven't heard that complaint from Superstar Saga plus Bowser's Minions.
One of the problems with Color Splash was the generic designs. They would've gone a lot farther if they made the Toads unique in appearance as well. The original 2 had toads with HAIR and HATS!
Honestly the two main problems I had with Paper Mario was that A: yeah, they took out everything interesting and made it Mario but Paper, which is honestly just as boring as SEGA removing all the characters from Sonic and focusing purely on Sonic himself and B: the endless, incesscant jokes that begin and end with "WE ARE MADE OF P A P E R PAPERPAPERPAPERPAPERPAPER". IF they could just get rid of that and return to the whole Paper aspect being a design choice over a literal attribute of the world, that'd be a good sprint in the right direction.
Kazoorion I didn’t know a 0.1 percent chance of services equals hope the Mania teens can only do so much people are clamoring for another adventure styled game Sonic Team thinks there listening but there not if anything there already dying a painful death Sonic Mania is only slowing that process down which is a shame because the mania team are passionate about sonic but Sonic Team themselves aren’t that makes no sense have they seriously never heard of “delayed for added polish” Sanzuru games have and they made Fire and Ice and shattered Crystal I mean how do you do that that is just plain lazy how do you do that with a smile on your face
Taylord the prequel movies where his perfect vision whereas the OG trilogy was his vision plus everyone in the studios 2cents on what should actually happen
Super Paper Mario, despite being different, has always been my personal favorite Paper Mario game. TTYD is a close second though. If going based solely on story, TTYD takes the cake. If Nintendo made a game that may even be just a Paper Mario but with Super's gameplay and TTYD's story, I'd still get it. Bringing in the RPG battle system would make the game that much better. Basically what I'm trying to say is: even if it's just another Super Paper Mario type of game, it'd still be better than Sticker Star and Color Splash *combined*. C'mon Nintendo. We're waiting. Give the fans what they what they want. Bring back -the good- Paper Mario.
The background music was so distracting, It felt like the music was off rhythm to Arlo I couldn't concentrate on what Arlo was saying I had to stop the video half way through. That was an awful decision who ever chose that.
Watching this now is painful, all of Tanabe's interviews were the opposite of all these hopes. Tragic idk if my ember is burnt out I kinda have hope since it seems like the current team (or certain producer) is so keen on just not making a RPG I'd say things could change with some staff changes. I can't see them doing 2 more of these OK feels like the best they could do with the SS formula
Me personally i feel like Super Paper Mario is kinda underatted. I know there are a handful of people that loves that game, but i still feel like there are more people that hates the game still. I think the Paper Mario series got bad when sticker star came out
I agree. There are people hating on SPM and they complain that story isn't enough to make it enjoyable. Sorry to those Paper Mario fans but I play Paper Mario because of original plot with new characters & RPG elements even if its not turn based.
Colorsplash blew me away, the amount of detail and fun clever moments was insane! It was an amazing game, just not an amazing paper mario game. (Favorite part was fighting the steak lol) It was a puzzle game, wish they left out the battles all together, and made it a spin off and not a main series paper mario game. But wow everyone looks past it’s dialogue and charm and literally every level is insanely creative. One of the most creative games I’ve played tbh. But YES the older paper mario games are better, no doubt about it lol
Here's a hot take, Super Paper Mario is a true sequel to TTYD. It has the diverse characters, and the partners system, even if the partners were a bit bland. It has a deep and unique story, making it a sequel to TTYD, even if it was a different gameplay style. People hate on Super because the games after it were terrible, and mediocre. Super doesn't deserve to be ignored and hated upon. But that's just my opinion.
I was really put off by the radical change tbh. I found the square looking dudes designs lazy. a bit too abstract and simple looking for me at the time, I much rather prefer to look at the full extent of mario universe characters. I was able to finally play it many years later and I did enjoyed it. but it sure was the beginning of the end.
@@kurikuraconkuritas This can easily be explained. SPM takes place in other dimensions that are very different from the Mushroom Kingdom. It makes sense to have races that aren't normal for typical Party Members because they are beings from another dimension that were created by an ancient evil to perform specific tasks. Also, they were appointed to join the Heroes of Light on their quest. This already makes things very different from the past 2 adventures. (In PM and TTYD, it was never really required to have your new friends with you, but it did add to the awesomeness and charm. Meanwhile in SPM this added to how dire the situation was) They raised the stakes with each following addition to the series and that's what makes it an epic trilogy.
I wouldn't mind, if they change Paper Mario from an RPG to an action adventure, but they really should at least keep the heart of this series alive: A good story, charming characters, great world, funny dialogues etc.
No. If the gameplay is garbage like it has been on the last 3 games (yes, I'm counting Super) then it won't matter if it has a good story. No one would want to explore it because of the awful gameplay. Either go full true Paper Mario or don't bother at all, at least for me at this point. We've had 3 duds and that's more than the amount of good games in this franchise already, return to what made the series so beloved.
Yes, because the battle systems in the first two Paper Marios were sooo great. The combat has always been somewhat lackluster in every Paper Mario game if you ask me.
I agree. That being said, I'd much prefer if they stuck to the RPG gameplay like PM64 and TTYD, but I do feel that other gameplay styles could be pulled off well if they focus on making said gameplay fun and engaging (like SPM) rather than throwing in random gimmicks for the sake of differentiation (SS and CS)
3D Mario and Paper Mario have a lot in common. Started on N64, improved on GC, tried something new on Wii, reinvented it for portable play on 3DS, with a sequel on Wii U. And finally, reinvented on Switch... We hope.... Someday... (The difference is that Super Mario 3D Land is good)
Super Mario 3D Land was good but very forgettable and way too short. I think it was seriously hurt by how it tried to mimic the design philosophy of the 2D platformers.
“A wildcard has been thrown into the mix, and that wild card is a little thing, called the switch” *cue an origami king advertisement Me: what in the ever living....
I still have some hope for a new Paper Mario Game that brings back the classic style but if they announce another sticker star or color splash my hope will shatter until Paper Mario gets revived. Honestly I would take Super Paper Mario 2 over the current style. Probably other people would have that opinion too.
"A true Paper Mario 3"????? Bruh, Super Paper Mario was AWESOME! It was different, but still awesome! I'd like the series to go back to it's roots as much as the next guy, but come on!
I would be totally fine if the next Paper Mario was Super Paper Mario 2. I'd prefer it to be TTYD 2, but I would be happy with either! If a new game does come, however, I don't think it will be Super Paper Mario 2. I'm on the same page as Arlo in that I'm not getting my hopes up for the most part, but there's still that tiny part of me that wants a new real Paper Mario game so badly to exist.
Joe Abrego I sometimes like to think that some really important employee in Nintendo is a huge Arlo fan, and that's why so many of the things that Arlo says he wants have actually happened recently, like smash bros. and more story for splatoon in the recent direct. I wouldn't even be that surprised...
I'd love to see the fans reactions if in the next direct, Nintendo was like "Yes! It's finally here! We've heard your pleas, and it's here! A brand new paper mario game based on the cult classic Super Paper Mario!"
I do want a true Paper Mario RPG, but even if Nintendo only has “one Mario RPG series”, Mario and Luigi isn’t doing so well either. Paper Jam was pretty mediocre and right now all we’re getting are remakes. (I can excuse Superstar Saga because it was on the GBA, but BiS does not need a remake, and I’m worried for the future of this series as well.)
My fan idea for the next Paper Mario is very different This game focuses on Bowser Jr. (whom is older) from the future kid napping Mario and bringing him to the future allowing Bowser in the present to launch a full scale invasion. In this future Bowser Jr is in full control of the Bowser Empire (Bowser is old and senile) and locks Mario up where he finds a rebel in the same prison and escapes, and he must find the shards of the Chronostar to stop this evil future
"Now the fool seeks to return to the past and undo the future that is King Bowser II" When this random goddamn youtube comment I just read has a more interesting story than your latest "masterpiece", that's when you should know you fucked up.
The writing is pretty much the only good thing about color splash. The only problem is that every scenario was condemned to be set on the tepid world of vanilla Mario. You can only do so much with a silent protagonist and bunch of fucking toads.
it's a good game! It got the bum rep. I think it was because the franchise ended with TTYD and was replaced with Super Star Saga as a mario rpg game but Paper mario was in high demand again and they needed to make a new game with Super Paper Mario but it was forced to change the formula to not rival Superstar saga... So that abrupt change in gameplay and the slight focus on the wiis motion controls, and the 2d aspects the franchise has being turned into ingame gimmicks didn't resonate well with fans at all. Super PM did nothing wrong and is a good game in its own merits but the shift was too much to handle for the majority.... at least that's my theory.
criticalhard actually it's because people *didn't* like Super Paper Mario, that Sticker Star and Colorsplash were made. Super paper Mario is a good game in its own right. It doesn't deserve the shade you're tossing its way at all. It is literally the compromise that the series needs again if we ever hope to see a decent Paper Mario title again. We need More story elements but by necessity we need the gameplay to be different from TTYD. We can get partners again but because of a theory I have I believe that the overall gameplay in combat has to be different from Super Star Saga.
different enough but now I've been educated because my theory falls flat since TTYD comes out a year after Super Star saga... so it's just the gimmick phase of nintendo in the Wii days and onwards that caused the shift that then turned sour because of the not stellar reviews of Super paper mario...which in turn created the storyless Sticker star and mediocre colorsplash... sad...I liked my convoluted nonsense theory since it wouldve been more dramatic than just admitting that Nintendo shoots themselves in the foot everytime they try being special despite them already being just that from the start...
Thank you so much Arlo for being our Paper Mario Champion. I do think, with your help, we will eventually see a return to form. I think there’s a better chance than we all are feeling, especially after watching your video. They know we want a story and interesting characters. They’re catering to longtime fans and embracing creativity and depth with the Switch. The biggest roadblock at this point I think is Mario and Luigi. Their recent rereleases of SS and Inside Story suggest they want to go back in that direction for M&L. Probably to try to funnel old Paper Mario fans into that series. I think we’ll see a TYD remaster in the next 5 years, and if that happens, market will talk. And with the Switch user base as active and growing as it is, I think it’ll sell several millions, enough to convince them to go back.
But mario and Luigi has very little in common with paper mario. I wouldn't say it is milked, every game in the series has been extremely consisted in quality. I just think that it just a little bit weird that they are remaking two games in a row, is all.
I was meaning that they are realizing new games in such a short gap (which aren't even new games) that it feels like they're rushing the games to the point where they drop in quality *coughcoughsupestarsagadxdcoughcough*
Ideas for a ttyd successor Badges: Some new ones that can apply special side effects to your attacks. Fire flower, Hammer suit, Cape Feather Upgrade badges: Some badges oughta be upgradeable and have better attack power and new properties too Challenges: more in depth and difficult than put of 100 trials. And every set of challenges done rewards you something great and different Upgradeable badges: Some badges like said can be upgraded to newer better badges Examples: Quake Hammer to power quake then mega quake Fire Drive Upgraded to blaze drive then inferno drive Power bounce jump and smash to mega bounce jump and smash. And the badges would still cost the same fp and bp. But getting said upgrades would be specific and difficult to gain requirements. Speaking of... Three badges in particular to add more to your fight style Fire flower: Adds fire properties to all of Mario's attacks. Also causing burn to enemies. Some moves that were already fire based can also damage and burn armored and fire enemies. Hammer suit: Adds hammer properties to attacks. Some moves that were already hammer based can ignore targets' defense Cape feather: Adds air priority to all attacks, also ups attack of jump moves by 2. Moves that are jump attacks hit multiple enemies at once Paper aesthetic level: Keep it at the same level as Thousand Year Door. That amount is just right. Not too much or too little. Animations of characters: smooth and fluid like Thousand Year door and no white borders around the characters.
I honestly could see it happening. Think about it. Nintendo has been giving us game after game for the Switch, for what it seems they announce 2 things that hype people up. First Breath of the wild and Mario odyssey Then Metroid and Smash Bros. We could see Paper Mario + another wanted IP in the future. They want to keep us hyped and excited for the switch.
I waited 23 years for a sequel to classic sonic and after so long it came.
Never give up hope Arlo...
so true
Oh how true
this is true.
WorKSimi made by fans but the point still stands
M o t i v a t i o n
My flame is out, but the remains are doused in gasoline and ready to burn. All it needs is a spark in the form of an announcement
What a bad mindset.
Nathan Thames how?
It's a decent mindset. He is not holding out vain hopes of a true to form paper mario game, but he is ready to go for it if one is announced.
Edit: It's honestly the mindset I have now.
idk why eveerones acting like paper mario is completely dead, nintendo still has interest in it clearly.
I'm still waiting for Paper Luigi to play through the background story of ttyd...
They can easily do that if they remastered TTYD in the way that AlphaDream is remaking the Mario and Luigi games.
If anything, they could make a ttyd remake with a Luigi side story that has color splash gameplay with an actual experience system, or spm gameplay.
Princess Éclaire for Smash Bros 2025. 😤
Koizumi Yoshiaki is the future of Nintendo.
Professor Who agreed!! I love the guy
Professor Who YES PLEASS
Thanks to him, we got the masterpiece Odyssey is.
Zenon Zamora ikr
Yes, praise that man! He will bring Nintendo back from oblivion.
They Fixed Mario Tennis and
They Fixed Mario Party
I trust Nintendo a little bit more, but i don't want to have too much hope
How did they fix Tennis and Party? I haven't kept up recently. Does Mario Party still make you follow around others in that stupid car? If it does, its far from fixed. I'm independent >.>
They also fixed Zelda and the main Mario IP by LISTENING TO THEIR FANS at least a little bit
The upcoming Super Mario Party returns to the roots of Mario Party aka no car, everyone moves on their own in the board.
Yeah they fucked up Paper Mario but at least a good series like Mario and Luigi is still around. I hope Paper Mario can get fixed...
@@Nik-zb7kr mario tennis aces got new abilities that makes the game fun and can be turned off, a story mode and lots of cool characters with different abilities
The car is now DEAD, so the game is enjoyable again
I think it's likely that the results of that Club Nintendo survey are due to most people just rushing through the survey to earn their points rather than filling it out honestly
You actually make a great point!
CremeCheeseBagel I was gonna bring that up too. I found out that less than 1% gave a shit about the story and was like, THAT'S STRAIGHT UP BULL. Sadly it was true. I really hold Club Nintendo Japan responsible, I wish they wouldve asked Club Nintendo America because I wouldve gave a "HELL YA, ALWAYS INCLUDE STORY IN PAPER MARIO!"
they literally forced you to do it immediately after purchase or you didn't get a say.
Kairu Hakubi In japan? Because in America I got as long as I wanted as long as I didnt type in the code that was in the box marked "Club Nintendo", those things have a really long expiration date. So much so I was able to use all my friend's codes that she didnt give two shits about (which got me big rewards)
Even then, when filling out those surveys I took SOME time (even though there were like 50).
I agree man. Also, you and I are in a lot of comment sections.
There's a starman waiting in the sky colour splash was good
There's a starman waiting in the sky I didn’t like Super Paper Mario when it came out because it was incredibly short and easy, and got rid of the RPG mechanics, but now I’d be glad if Nintendo went back to that style
A true sequel to TTYD may just be a pipe dream... but if there's one man good at getting through pipes...
This comment restores my hope in humanity...and Mario.
Jman3862 Yep, count me in because Arlo helped me hold on to that hope!
Tuper Tario Yothers Deluxe
But there is a true sequal! Super Paper Mario is GREAT!
@@ancientshiv9837 super paper mario completely cut out turn based battling so it's not a "true" sequel
Minus Bros. I would DIE to play any of the first three on Switch
Minus Bros. How about both in a collection?
Clever.
RETNUH GAMING No, it was a trick so Nintendo does the opposite of what he said!
@Shadders2010 You idiot! You gave away the plan!
They wanted to gear Paper Mario toward kids. Here’s the thing - it already was perfect for kids! My story with Paper Mario:
I was 5 and my sister was 7.
Wow... You got married young...
The kids stuff is not a excuse for being mediocre
Arty Castro yeah but what I think Miyamoto is trying to say is that little kids need a simple story or not even one. But the thing is, we love stories even when I was 6, and Super Paper Mario is the thing that got me into storytelling, with a few other helpful things such as movies and whatnot.
Woah, Koizumi was behind some of my favorite games' stories of all time? Thanks for explaining why I should really respect this guy's impact on the company and their games!
Christian Hendrickson you didn’t know that?
Christian Hendrickson except for Odyssey that game sucks ass...
Kiz Epic Journey looks like we got a cocky ass here folks
But like, how would they do super paper Luigi when he’s with you for almost the whole game?
*+badreality2* I'm curious about that too, His "partners" mention how they go through hell traveling with him, and I want to see it my self.
Tbh I'm actually lowkey hoping for a Thousand Year Door HD remake, with a bonus adventure that goes through Luigi's respective adventure. Basically what they're doing with the Mario and Luigi 3ds remakes.
Hell yes
badreality2 Same!
it's such a tragedy that Super Paper Mario gets such a bad rap since it's viewed as the beginning of the end for the series. That game is excellent, and stays true to the spirit of the previous two games in all things but the Gameplay, which was so radically changed.
Apollo9898LPs personally the gameplay is an interesting concept but the execution is mostly just serviceable.
@aj schott iT dOeSn'T sTaY tRuE tO uNiQuE cHaRaCtErS oR uNiQuE hUb EiThEr
What's a tragedy is that the series has gotten butchered so badly that "stays true to the previous games in all but the GAMEPLAY" is a reasonable comment lol
Super Paper Mario is my favorite video game. The first two are fantastic, but I just liked SPM better. The story is GREAT, and I LOVE games with great story! People mostly don't like it because it's different than the originals, but that doesn't make it a bad game. Yeah, it's different, but it's still very good. The gameplay is different, but it's not BAD. I think people should stop judging SPM by comparison to the originals, and start judging it as it's own game.
they improved battle in super. i dont like turn based because when you need to get somewhere in a hurry, and there are a lot of enemies around you, you are gonna slow down a lot if you have to fight them turn based. with normal time combat however is good because you can just stomp on them or hit them with a hammer right then and there, and they'll just die. plus, the oringinal 2d games, and even the 3d ones use normal time combat, and i really like it. so there
I love The Lonely Goomba’s edits

I follow him on Twitter which is why I knew the amiibo vid exists. I added the Paper Mario part to comedically imply his obsession with paper mario
"But that chart says..."
Christmas morning playing TTYD for the first time was such a vivid high point
I was 4 years old the first time I played paper mario 64 and it still is one if the best games ive ever played
Man, these videos about Paper Mario make me so sad.
But Odyssey surprised me so much! Who would have guessed that a game like that would come after 3D Land and 3D World?
I'm still rooting for a new Paper Mario like the first two, even if it's unlikely.
Never give up hope, NintendoFan. I strongly believe that we will get a new paper mario game.
The problem is that even if a new PM-game will be announced, it is very likely that it is made by the same team who developed SS and CS which consists of people where most of them never even played the original games.
I hope we get Super Paper Mario 2
I hope the next Paper Mario will be so good, it'll make a lot of people forget Odyssey's ending because............................ admit it... to you who is reading my comment, I know there's a 70% chance that you're a f*ckface who overreacted to Peach rejecting Mario's flowers and falsely accuse her of "ditching" him.
Planet Phaze. Eh. That seems a little weak compared to a whole new game.
Well here we are 5 years later and its finally happening, Thousand Year Door is back
2018: Nintendo's Changed...So Is There Hope for Paper Mario?
2019: No
2020: No
2021: No
2022: No
2023: YES!!!!
You mean like with the Mario & Luigi games? That could work if done right.
waffle kingdom!
that would be great but i want a 2 player mode with paper mario and paper luigi
How about us being able to experience Paper Luigi's adventure he tells us about?
Mike Clalverl call it : Paper Mario Story. A reboot of the series, with a retelling of the story of game one.
Let's see how the origami king turns out
It will be bad
Hopefully not
@Low Quality Cartoons I don't I'm a pessimist and think the game will be bad
@Low Quality Cartoons I just think paper mario is doomed.
I'm still have hope that it will be great
I'd love to believe that there will be another Paper Mario game like 64 and TTYD but... I can't. I'm sorry but, if Tanabe is producing the next game, it's a red flag for me. That comment about making the game for the 7 to 10-year old demographic was very pitiful for multiple reasons.
Same. I am sick of it. It's gotten to a point where I want Tanabe fired if he doesn't know when to stop.
Maybe since Nintendo and Square are on good terms again they'll do a Mario RPG 2!
No not a remake, just make a new game that is awesome.
Except Tanabe is directly behind LM3. If another Paper Mario game is in the works, I doubt Tanabe is behind it because there is no way he'd work on two games at once.
Oh Paper Mario, how I miss you so..
Oh C'mon, it's not the end of the world. I'm one of the few old fans that think there's still a chance.
Bro, he just said that he misses PM
We all miss it ;-(

NintenDude Watch the "Why Paper Mario changed" video in the description. It details stuff in a pretty good manner.
Sticker star is an example of not so good change. Color splash was a good game held back by an inferior gameplay system.
Never give up the dream Arlo. Look at us now 5 years later with a full remake of Thousand Year Door on the Switch announced. Never give up the dream.
I loved Super Paper Mario, it was my first Paper Mario game and I was just so swept up in the story and characters. I had no idea a Mario game could be so involving. I don't mind how they do the next Paper Mario as long as they focus on story.

Colour Splash is more like UNO. You play it and you feel like your having but by the end your just angry and disapointed
Actually yu gi oh is fun, color splash was ok but not fun for me
Yugioh is a very fast game and a very oppressive one.
You basically win by having the unfairest tactics possible to shut down or obliterate your opponent.
Paper Mario strategy shouldn't get nearly that complex, but there should be strategies to keep things fun.

Nah I'm from the far future, paper Mario cardboard madness just came out on the nintendo hex cube
Super paper Mario is probably my favorite paper Mario, actually. The story was phenomenally entertaining and it didn't really suffer for dropping the admittedly fantastic take on turn-based combat.
Honestly at this point I'm just replaying the first 3 paper mario games over and over just to fill the void of never getting a true paper mario

If I'd knew how to make games I'd try to make a true paper mario myself

Less than 1% of people said the thing they enjoyed most was the story?! What, did they only survey a single person?
maybe the other 99% voted for the classic battle system lol the next paper mario game will go back to its routes i feel as nintendo finally has the worlds attention again and will most likley not want to release another slap to the face of us die hard pm fans
maybe the way the question was worded caused people to think they were only talking about gameplay
Diego García Barradas that's actually an awesome idea
Diego García Barradas Shouldn't be backwards considering that Paper Mario came first?
Builder Bumpers Gaming Garbage we need real pm
Exactly. But the creator, Miyamoto, prefers simplicity and had ruined the series with the last two games
The GameCube lineup was chalk full of these types of experimental games that changed the formula. Its my favorite era of nintendo ever
I agree.
I don’t like the setting or the partner designs because they’re unique, the feel less like Mario and more like just a general rpg
GENO
I hope you don't actually expect it to happen. Because that is unrealistic as fuck.
@@j-rex229 Why, because Square and Nintendo hate each other?
@@crabking3525 yea
Funny this popped up in my feed after I watched you die and resurrect when they announced the thousand year door remake. Sometimes, not always but occasionally, hope is rewarded.
Arlo, hearing you talk about Paper Mario makes my plastic melt...
We can only hope for a return to form for the series!
I am indeed a Paper Mario loving Lego,
and one with a Nintendo channel too!
Arlo is one of the few people that's made Paper Mario videos that didn't make me roll my eyes in annoyance.
HOLY CRAP that animated story sequence with Miyamoto came out of nowhere. AND WAS AMAZINg! :D
I bet that's what your childish mind actually thought of when Sticker Star was released.
Nintendo Beyond Yeah. It was very funny. But at the same time, it felt kinda weird since we all believed that was true story in the past(except for the lizard part, wizard part and etc) and now we know he wasn't the main and only issue with the series going down the drain.
Haha go fuck yourself Josh
oh boi dint know joshy watch arrrrrrrlo
Dimentio was one of the greatest villains ever created in the Mario universe. His methods range to that of a Dr Strange villain then to that of a Mario villain
He wants to merge dimensions together because his holy cult book The Dark Prognosticus demands that they be merged and in the inevitable chaos it will bring forth a brand new world where only the strongest will be able to survive the massive culture shift during the dimension distortion. And as a being of pure chaos he relishes at the idea of it because his entire body is just concentrated dark energy. In a lot of ways he like Klarion the Witch Boy a powerful sorcerer with no concept of order or upbringing only mindless chaos
I came from the future to tell you that not theres is no hope
And I'm depressed :(
16:50 Uhm... *WHAT?!?!* I *loved* the Story in Super Paper Mario!
The Gameplay was surely not as good and tight as in Paper Mario 1+2, but the Story made it still to a great Paper Mario (that, and the combat and gameplay wasn't all too bad)
Also, I once borrowed Sticker Star from my best friends sister, gave it back to her after a few days, couldn't play it for longer than 3 hours, and couldn't play further than the first boss, it was just too bad.
Then, about a year later, I bought the game in store, thinking to myself: "It probably wasn't so bad, and I just overreacted"
I refunded it the day after, it was as horrible as I remembered...
I had to force myself to play it. Then I just set it down after the third boss and have not touch it to this day.
We’ll have to wait and see with this one, guys...
The end joke is even funnier as of September 14, 2023, but now for completely new reasons.
They should put Kensuke Tanabe on a team to make an original IP or game for children so somebody else can make a good Paper Mario.
There is nothing wrong with having some games targeting young children, they just should not be IPs with an existing audience that is not composed of young children.
AdamTheGameBoy That’s a great idea. Better than just firing someone who has some ideas that can be good but just aren’t in the right place to be used
Watching this after the tryd remake got announced is sure interesting
Nintendo needs to stop emphasizing on the whole paper theme and go back to RPG/story > Paper and Stickers. Thousand year door had the perfect balance of this where we had Mario turn to a paper plane etc but the main core was turn base combat with fun RPG elements. Paper Mario was more than just paper. The good ol days.
jonftl If there isn't a paper theme, then it isn't Paper Mario at all!
Cutie & Friends Adventures he means not to focus too much on it like they do nowdays, not to get rid of it :p
Overblowing the paper element won't automatically make the game not good. But I still prefer for them to just keep the paper idea as an aesthetic choice. Like ttyd.
Cutie & Friends Adventures Paper Mario's japanese name is Mario Story/Paper Mario RPG so where is the story and RPG, Nintendo? lol
They have paper Mario without the emphasis on paper. Mario and Luigi.
It's possible that BotW had so many fresh, new ideas because Nintendo had been suppressing them for so many years, and people were finally allowed the freedom they needed to let them come to light.
They were fresh and new for Legend of Zelda.
KingofUSA85 not really. It mixed the open world and action adventure genre together.

I miss the old Paper Mario
Five years later... Nintendo has *TRULY* changed now. And hopefully they'll *STAY* that way.
Sega might as well get rid of most of the characters as at this point they practically mean nothing
Partly because they never bothered to MAKE them mean anything.
Perry Martin exactly then what’s the point of them existing if they just barely bother to use them
Sonic at least has a few good games under his belt from 2008 onwards, which shows hope. Paper Mario has been going the wrong path since 2007.
Butternut Squash has changed...
So is there hope for Yes Please?
Miyamoto is literally the George Lucas of video games
Jack Rooney
He proved this with Bowser’s Minions. At least he isn’t like John Kricfalusi.
Austin Reed what do you mean by this?
Taylord the prequel movies where his perfect vision whereas the OG trilogy was his vision plus everyone in the studios 2cents on what should actually happen
Liberty Prime i know that. I just kind of always assumed miyamoto was in creative control nowadays he's just lost with the times
Miyamoto didn't help with Color Splash.
I can see a remake of the original Paper Mario with the graphics of Color Splash
One day, the Paper Mario series would eventually resurrect into its former glory.

Nice to see lonely goomba's editing in there! Its recognisable at this point! I love the whole video and agree with everything! Good job!
The background music was so distracting, It felt like the music was off rhythm to Arlo I couldn't concentrate on what Arlo was saying I had to stop the video half way through. That was an awful decision who ever chose that.
uncle hank i
Watching this now is painful, all of Tanabe's interviews were the opposite of all these hopes. Tragic
idk if my ember is burnt out I kinda have hope since it seems like the current team (or certain producer) is so keen on just not making a RPG I'd say things could change with some staff changes. I can't see them doing 2 more of these OK feels like the best they could do with the SS formula
Me personally i feel like Super Paper Mario is kinda underatted. I know there are a handful of people that loves that game, but i still feel like there are more people that hates the game still. I think the Paper Mario series got bad when sticker star came out
Actually SPM is barely hated nowadays, specially with Sticker Star and Color Splash are just shit in comparation.
It got mediocre, gameplay-wise, with Super Paper Mario.
SPM is my favourite Paper Mario game. The gameplay was fun, the story was great, and the bosses were amazing. I love almost everything about it.
It's okay to like the game. It's not okay to act as if it is a real Paper Mario game.
(Favorite part was fighting the steak lol)
It was a puzzle game, wish they left out the battles all together, and made it a spin off and not a main series paper mario game.
@@kurikuraconkuritas While yes, the designs were repetitive, it was still a true sequel to TTYD. It had the story, and a unique style.
No it really doesn't deserve the hate, though I will say it's a bit too easy and tedious in parts of chapters/entire chapters.
That's the coldest take ever.
Contact Nintendo and Tweet people like Yoshiaki Koisumi and get them to do this. I just did it. I sent them this video.
I hope they saw video. We should also send fan art! But I hope you got Ryota Kawade!
I wouldn't mind, if they change Paper Mario from an RPG to an action adventure, but they really should at least keep the heart of this series alive: A good story, charming characters, great world, funny dialogues etc.
Erich Scheidle like Super Paper Mario
Just like Super
I agree. That being said, I'd much prefer if they stuck to the RPG gameplay like PM64 and TTYD, but I do feel that other gameplay styles could be pulled off well if they focus on making said gameplay fun and engaging (like SPM) rather than throwing in random gimmicks for the sake of differentiation (SS and CS)
yes, there is
the good ending
3D Mario and Paper Mario have a lot in common.
Started on N64, improved on GC, tried something new on Wii,
reinvented it for portable play on 3DS, with a sequel on Wii U.
And finally, reinvented on Switch... We hope.... Someday...
(The difference is that Super Mario 3D Land is good)
>improved on GC
You're implying Sunshine is an improvement over 64
While Sunshine has some flaws like the less amount of levels and dificulty spike, it still improved some stuff from 64 like the gameplay and story.
Super Mario 3D Land was good but very forgettable and way too short. I think it was seriously hurt by how it tried to mimic the design philosophy of the 2D platformers.
Yep.
Sunshine was so much fun and I liked it even better than 64.

Gotta say, its nice to come back to this video now after the September 2023 direct
2023 has officially rekindled my hope given the Mario RPG and TTYD news. I'll allow myself some naïve optimism, and get excited!
3:01 And now we know from recent interviews that this was right all along.
No, Miyamoto is trying to change. This is all Kensuke Tanabe's fault
Welp, we got sticker star 3
SMP story + TTYD game play = best game ever
Super Mario Paper
Super Mario Party's story was my favorite too
Actually it would be SPM's story + TTYD's battles + 64's levels
I feel they should just remake the first 3 games. I love the first game, have never played TYYD and consider Super one of my favorite games ever.
I would love it if Nintendo could officially acknowledge Arlo
Joe Abrego I sometimes like to think that some really important employee in Nintendo is a huge Arlo fan, and that's why so many of the things that Arlo says he wants have actually happened recently, like smash bros. and more story for splatoon in the recent direct. I wouldn't even be that surprised...
Schmendrik Lamar No offense to Arlo, but there’s such a vast sea of Nintendo RUclipsrs that them paying attention to him specifically is unlikely.
Not a chance. Nintendo is a Japanese company. Most of them probably don't even speak English. They probably don't even know he exists.
* sadface *
People might hate on super paper mario but we can all agree that it has one of the best stories in marik history
Mario but yes
I'd love to see the fans reactions if in the next direct, Nintendo was like "Yes! It's finally here! We've heard your pleas, and it's here! A brand new paper mario game based on the cult classic Super Paper Mario!"
FABULOG some would be angry, some would be happy because they could improve the PRPG gameplay and have another great story.
I would hate life so much.
That would still enrage a lot of people to be honest....
LegendOfPokemon
They skipped PiT due to its dark elements.

Just an estimate.
Arlo! I need more videos from you on paper Mario! I need it just as much as I need a new paper Mario game!
My fan idea for the next Paper Mario is very different
This game focuses on Bowser Jr.
"Now the fool seeks to return to the past and undo the future that is King Bowser II"
When this random goddamn youtube comment I just read has a more interesting story than your latest "masterpiece", that's when you should know you fucked up.
Nintendo learned the Marvel Cinematic Universe lesson; Trust The Artists.
The Ponderer so true
The MCU's lesson is: Add more jokes.
In paper mario's case, it would actually fit.
They added more jokes in Sticker and Color Trash, and they are all cringy as fuck
So no, it wouldn't work.
The writing is pretty much the only good thing about color splash.
The only problem is that every scenario was condemned to be set on the tepid world of vanilla Mario.
You can only do so much with a silent protagonist and bunch of fucking toads.

>The Joke.
>Your head.
It’s weird looking back at this video now in light of what just got announced.
I don't care what anyone says, Super Paper Mario is really great and fun game! Screw the haters.
it's a good game!
NIneDJcali thanks to people liking that garbage we got ss and cs 3 garbage games
criticalhard actually it's because people *didn't* like Super Paper Mario, that Sticker Star and Colorsplash were made.
The game was always different from Superstar Saga.
different enough but now I've been educated because my theory falls flat since TTYD comes out a year after Super Star saga... so it's just the gimmick phase of nintendo in the Wii days and onwards that caused the shift that then turned sour because of the not stellar reviews of Super paper mario...which in turn created the storyless Sticker star and mediocre colorsplash... sad...I liked my convoluted nonsense theory since it wouldve been more dramatic than just admitting that Nintendo shoots themselves in the foot everytime they try being special despite them already being just that from the start...
I kind of feel they are milking the Mario and Luigi nowadays to be honest....
Ideas for a ttyd successor
Badges: Some new ones that can apply special side effects to your attacks. Fire flower, Hammer suit, Cape Feather
Upgrade badges: Some badges oughta be upgradeable and have better attack power and new properties too
Challenges: more in depth and difficult than put of 100 trials. And every set of challenges done rewards you something great and different
Upgradeable badges: Some badges like said can be upgraded to newer better badges
Examples:
Quake Hammer to power quake then mega quake
Fire Drive Upgraded to blaze drive then inferno drive
Power bounce jump and smash to mega bounce jump and smash.
And the badges would still cost the same fp and bp. But getting said upgrades would be specific and difficult to gain requirements.
Speaking of...
Three badges in particular to add more to your fight style
Fire flower: Adds fire properties to all of Mario's attacks. Also causing burn to enemies. Some moves that were already fire based can also damage and burn armored and fire enemies.
Hammer suit: Adds hammer properties to attacks. Some moves that were already hammer based can ignore targets' defense
Cape feather: Adds air priority to all attacks, also ups attack of jump moves by 2. Moves that are jump attacks hit multiple enemies at once
Paper aesthetic level: Keep it at the same level as Thousand Year Door. That amount is just right. Not too much or too little.
Animations of characters: smooth and fluid like Thousand Year door and no white borders around the characters.
finally a Paper Mario video again! YES!
I honestly could see it happening.
Think about it.
Nintendo has been giving us game after game for the Switch, for what it seems they announce 2 things that hype people up.
First Breath of the wild and Mario odyssey
Then Metroid and Smash Bros.
We could see Paper Mario + another wanted IP in the future. They want to keep us hyped and excited for the switch.
