Great videos Paul, loved ever minute. Can't wait to see the rest! Very brave removing the engine on your own, legendary stuff!! I have an 88 Carrera but also love these early cars, would love to have a project like this but they have become really expensive and hard to find here in Australia. I look forward to the engine rebuild and the rest of the videos!!
Nice work! That's a beautiful 911 with those Fuchs. I did pretty much the same thing with my 914. No mechanical experience only a Pelican Parts tech article. For a one person removal they suggested using all thread on all 4 corners and lowering it down slowly with a nut and washers so as not to catch the fuel rail on the body when dropping it. I felt your pain when that motor tipped.
That worked, but its the wrong way and takes to long. Jack up car real high, unhook everything, lower car back down, put jack under motor, take out motor mount bolts, and then "raise" the car off the engine, much safer and faster.
i have done this job without a lift a hew times and i would not do this alone you made it look good but i do not think that you will not do this job alone agean fun to watch thank you for your time
Hi, Great video and very informative. Question, what engine oil and viscosity did you use for those 190K miles, plus change intervals? Engine looked well lubricated and clean internally, the oil surely performed OK it seems. I enjoyed following this, thanks very much.
Hey Paul,,,,,I’m removing my engine today.....or going to try anyway....I have removed an tucked away all wiring.....I see you removed the fan...is this necessary and do you have to remove all tin ware around engine?
I use 2 skate boards, under the heat exchangers , once off lowered floor jack , very easy to move engine and gearbox around work shop .
Great videods, subscribed! Your face was a picture when you got the engine out safe. relief and joy combined.
You're awesome man! Great video, really do appreciate it, keep on doing what your doing!
...I was sweating for you when you started to let the engine down on the Jack.. Well done..👍
Hahaha! me three!

Did my first 964 engine drop too... HF 1000lb lift table 🙂. You are a brave soul ... 👍 congrats!
Did you drop it w the tyranny attached? Is it possible to drop the motor w/o trans?
I had a 69 E Targa, that same color, loved that car.

I'll look at that!
Tense moments!

Thank you! all the oil is 20W 50.
The German car industry being so ingenious, I will never understand why they did not design an easy way to get the car engine out.

No you can remove the wiring from the firewall. I was a bit intimidated by that rats nest!
Nice piece of 3/4 inch plywood wood two floor jacks would have made it a lot easier even Bolting the wood to a good size floor jack
I'm sure it would! learning as I go!
What's a rough cost estimate of a rebuild by doing the rebuild yourself(machining cost, rebuild kit(?) cost, etc.)
A lot, I'm scared to add it up!
How broken is engine? Shuffle through Pelican .
