-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.com/album/4Dao8y... Кино
Another great example of taking a song that we’ve heard 1,000 times, but watching it with you guys it felt brand new! The world needs more of this!
Imagine seeing Elton playing this song at the Troubadour club in L.A. in his first visit to America!!!!
Agreed. Same reason I want Andy & Alex to hear Bang Your Head (Metal Health) by Quiet Riot! We’ve heard it a billion times back in the 80’s ( ::gulp::) but it still holds up and A&A will love it! 🤘🏻
This. This right here is why "That was so overplayed" is a *terrible* argument against A&A reacting to something, even when a band does have other, better songs in their back catalogue. A song may be old hat to us, but there's a reason it was popular in the first place, and it's new to *them*, which is what makes it special. And the popular stuff is the gateway drug that gets you hooked to come back for the rest...
Absolutely, I've heard this so many times, I'll switch it off if I run into it, but this is like the first time hearing it.
That's what got me onto reaction vids! All these songs I know by heart, pun intended, and hearing them for the first time again through new ears .....I love it. Started with Weeboo reacting to early VH, then I got hooked on PinkmetalHead....then A & A,....and on from there. ✌
Fun fact: Bernie Taupin wrote this at 18 years old
It’s obvious. But then again no…
Hat-tip, Mr Taupin.
Ridiculous when you hear facts like that; 18 and writing something so perfect. The same goes for the later Beatles stuff, 4 lads in their mid 20s writing and playing stuff like that.
Incredible
I was 17 the first time I heard this. Blew me away when I heard how they composed their songs. Haven’t heard of anyone else doing it that way.
“Someone Saved My Life Tonight” is an absolute must hit from Elton John. Written at possibly rock bottom during his career
Rock bottom in his personal life, but still in the peak of popularity and fame.
Just do the entire album. The first side in particular is the most brilliant Elton music ever.
@@MichaelPhillipsatGreyOwlStudio 100%. Captain Fantastic is in my Top 5 albums of all time.
A great song with a special meaning. You gotta reacct to this 💎 gem
@@BathtubBass Captain Fantastic is a perfect album, IMHO. Some of my favorite albums of all time are Elton's 70's albums like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Captain Fantastic and others.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Agreed...And then later on the other side of the coin from a sad perspective ,it was"Candle in the Wind".
Yes. Makes me think of my son's and my friends.
This song moved me as an 8 year old. I'm turning 60 this year and it is still such a beautiful song at every level by Sir Elton John
I always think of this song when I see a new baby, to me that's what this song is welcoming a new life to the world.
I remember hearing it as a little kid too. My older sis had the album and I wore it out. “Daniel” is another fave! And ofc all the well known hits…not a huge fan of his later stuff but he owned the 70’s!
Ditto!
If it moved you as an 8 year old, you might want to take a look at the piano commercial. I don’t even play a music instrument and it gets me every time. ruclips.net/video/DShEAPKV0EU/видео.html
Dude I'm 59 ... feel"in your vibe!!!!
His younger voice, his piano playing, that double bass & Bernie Taupin's lyrics make this a gift to us all.
Fun fact: my wife and I danced to this as our wedding song over 30 years ago. Must have worked as we are still married.
@ Mark Clippinger I never married . Anyway congrats to you and your wife .
Great choice. I sang it to my wife at ours. It's just a perfect song.
I got married seven months ago and this is the one my wife and i danced to, the magic of the song is still intact.
Ours too. :)
Right on...!
One thing neither of you understand. I was 18 in 69, imagine being introduced to Elton for the first time, along with Jim Croce, King Crimson, Yes, and tons of others within a few months. There was no place to research an artist, to find out more. If you liked something, and didn't want to wait for a chance listen on the radio, there was no choice but to buy the 45, buy the LP. And the legendary artists you look back on now were introducing themselves literally week after week. Led Zepp you heard last week? Try some Jethro Tull this week. James Taylor? New Who? Crosby Stills Nash have a new song?. It was flowing like you can never understand. Got Your Song as a 45. Got the album months later, because there were so many albums coming out and I couldn't afford them all.
How about Black Cloud by Medusa. Remember that one. Still a favorite
What's the phrase ... an embarrassment of riches. That was being a teenager in the 70s.
16 in 69 and couldn't agree more. We we musically spoiled weekly and I loved it! Oh the good old days. :-)
Well said, very well said
It was useful to have a friend at the radio station. The most popular friend at the party. You get to hear the most incredible music for a few joints and beer.
In the movie Amadeus Salieri described his first hearing of Mozart:
"Then suddenly; high above it, an oboe, a single note, hanging there unwavering, till a clarinet took over and sweetened it into a phrase of such delight! This was no composition by a performing monkey! This was a music I’d never heard. Filled with such longing, such unfulfillable longing. It seemed to me that I was hearing the very voice of God."
The part of this song that I enjoy as a subtle display of composition is when Elton John drags out his note a couple of times a wind instrument, I think that it is a flute, in the background subtly picks up the end of his note and extends it. The voice and instrument supporting each other. That reminded me of that scene from Amadeus.
That's beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
This is hands down the best comment I will read today; probably all week, and possibly this year! ‘That single note of the oboe’. Bravo my friend!
I had the same admiration for the woodwinds carrying the note, and was going to comment on it but your comment is much more elegant than any I could write. Incorporating woodwinds in that fashion is a brilliant piece of composition.
The movie "Shawshank Redemption" brought this home during the scene where the opera music was played all over the public address system. Men who had never heard beauty before were stopped in their tracks, never to be the same again!
That movie won best picture the year I was born. It's one of my favorites!
This song launched one of the biggest performers in pop music. The power of the right people in your circle. Elton teamed up with Bernie and the best producers in the industry, David Bowies team.
I think we get a little complacent about just how amazing our music is and how lucky we were to have grow up with it. I've heard this song probably 1000 times, but today, listening with you, it brought a tear to my eye. Much love 💚💚
I’m not complacent at all. There simply is little in music today I’d ever listen to whereas it supported 5 Rock Stations in L.A. when I was young and all were different enough to survive The 50-early 70s will go down as one of the finest periods in all musical history.
"Tiny Dancer" --an AMAZING production: listen for orchestral strings AND peddle steel guitar, --and it sounds like a natural combination
They did that one about a year ago, if you go to the front page of the channel, and do a search for Elton John, you'll see the links for that, and a couple of other Elton John songs they've reacted to.
They did cover it.
@@LadyIarConnacht Oh! --Thank you. --And it IS a remarkable production, worth revisiting!
@@thomasbohannon2066 Thank you!
This classic is an S Tier for me. Bernie Taupin eloquently hits you with his words, and Elton's vocal execution is spot on. The whole production is perfection. "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" and "Philadelphia Freedom" are my suggestions. Thanks, great reaction.
Absolutely right on with your suggestions. I would also say "Tiny Dancer."
Exactly
@@jeffcobb2734 Hi Jeff. I believe they reacted to Tiny Dancer already. Check it out. I luv that one too👍🏼
Agree with your suggestions
Madman Across The Water. It's just awesome.
Simply classic Elton. Give madman Across the Water and Tiny Dancer a listen.
They already did tiny dancer :)
Madman is a must....
"Madman" portrays the emotional isolation of mental illness like no other song I know. Haunting.
@@sjw5797 how the music ebbs and flows in "Madman..." is nothing short of genius.
Or Mona Lisas & Mad Hatters from the album
One of the most beautiful, perfect, heartfelt, timeless songs ever written. I'm 60 now, and I still get chills and misty eyed when I hear the great Elton John express himself!
Bernie Taupin's lyrics and Elton John's melodies and voice, stellar. Such a historic song.
Can't go wrong with Elton John... Give "Madman across the water" a listen... Also looking forward to more Steely Dan (or Donald Fagen solo release, like "I.G.Y.")
"Madman across the Water" is great, but they need to make sure they listen to the original version from Tumbleweed Connection. It's rocks harder and has Mick Ronson on guitar.
@@Stormheart911 yes!
Agree on more Steely Dan and Donald Fagan. I wish they’d listen to Steely Dan’s Boston Rag (banger!), Pretzel Logic (jazzy), Midnite Cruiser (early banger), etc. For Donald, IGY, the Nightfly, New Frontier, and Maxine. This music is the best!
Levon.
Dude...every song off "The Nightfly" is a must!!
Every time this song comes on the radio my dad retells the story of the first time he heard this song on KHJ Radio in LA back in 1970. He said the DJ Sam Riddle said “Pay attention to Elton John, cause this guy’s gonna be the next big thing”
Seeing Elton John (at a white grand piano) & Billy Joel (at a black grand piano) play their songs was one of the most memorable moments of my life. Elton is just part of the fabric of us all.
I saw that tour at Clemson, SC. Unforgettable!
yep, saw that tour when I was 15, and its still the best concert I've ever been too.
Had forgotten how sonically satisfying this song is. So well produced.
watching these reaction channels thru headphones is reminding me how seemingly all the music back then was so well produced with so many little flourishes...beauty!
Absolutely flawless! I can’t hear this song without my eyes welling up, it moves me so much. The Jim Croce song “I’ll Have to Say I Love You in a Song” is very much akin to “Your Song.” Please consider making “Madman Across the Water” (from the album of the same name) your next EJ pick!
🥰
This was my wedding song 1981 , I have been listening to him since 1972, Reginald Dwight has always been in my top ten favorite musicians . Bernie Taupin fantastic lyricist.
I wonder how many 10's of thousands of weddings this song has been played at?
This was the song that set Elton John on his road to stardom. The beginning of something wonderful with a string of hits written by Elton and Bernie Taupin, his output in the 70's was phenomenal!
I was 20 when this great song of Elton's came out in October of 1970. I loved it immediately and love it still to this day. The lyrics are so poignant and so beautiful. When Elton met Bernie they created magic together. You'll never find another music reltaionship more symbiotic than these two guys. That's why they are both worth over $500+million each. Like peanut butter and jelly, they went together so well.
You’ll like Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters if you like this one. So much great Elton for you all to still discover and I’m excited to watch it.
BEST. ELTON. SONG. EVER. :)
When we first heard Your Song we knew someone special had entered the scene! Good job!
This and “Mona Lisa’s and Madhatters” are two of the most beautiful songs every written
I concur ML&M is a true love song to New York City and friendship. So wonderfully sung and written.
Elton’s earliest music is wonderful. Try “Madman Across The Water”.
I remember listening to Your Song the first time when it first came out. I was mesmerized. So beautiful.
Levon is my favorite Elton song.
I grew up with the music of Elton John. He was really big in the 70's-80's. He collaborated with Bernie Taupin since 1967 on more than 30 albums. They were one of the best song writing teams. Bernie wrote the lyrics & Elton supplied the melody. They had so many great hits together such as "Your Song", "Levon", "Tiny Dancer", "Rocket Man", "Honky Cat, "Crocodile Rock", "Daniel", "Bennie & The Jets", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Candle In The Wind", "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding", "The Bitch Is Back", "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" etc.
I had almost the entire catalogue up till 1975, the year I graduated from high school. Thank you Columbia House records and many albums cheap, cheap, cheap.
Elton has been my favorite for many years. "Levon" and "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" will blow you away! Great job, A&A!
Absolutely S tier. This is one of the most impactful songs of the 20th century.
This is the era when I liked Elton John. Happy Wednesday!
GOOOOOOOD MORNING A&A FAMILY!
☮️❤️♾️
Hey @John H! Hope your week is going well! ☺️
Another beautiful intimate Elton song is “Harmony” from “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”.
There's something about the last tracks on his earlier albums. They ars often forgotten hidden gems. I've always loved "High Flying Bird" off the "Don't Shoot Me" album. These tracks are vintage EJ when he was at the peak of his powers.
Davey Johnstone has been trying to get this one added to the farewell tour. Love this song. Amazing, it was never a single.
@@heidigrezel2596 I saw him on the ‘18 version of the farewell tour. His voice was GREAT. Hope he still has it.
@@barryshapiro3349 saw him 9/2019. He was great. 8 times, 1979-2019, he never disappoints! Almost always 3 hrs as well. Seen some recent clips, still going strong!
@@heidigrezel2596 They had originally planned to release "Harmony" as a single, but the Caribou album was ready to ship, so they went ahead with the release of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" instead.
This is the song sung at LA's Troubadour club that got his career going in the US! I remember around Christmas, 1970, hearing this amazing tune for the first time. God, but Bernie's lyrics get me every time!
For Elton John - Levon, or Madman Across the Water. still Early in his career. Ballad of a Well Known gun - from his third album - a great deep cut. His early career is fantastic - Also recommend Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters. Also - Cat Stevens's"peace Train"
I agree with you wholeheartedly on Madman and his earlier stuff.. I would say don't rush to listen to anything past Captain Fantastic, in my opinion. His vocal range changed so much after his surgery.. not his fault, but he can no longer hit the higher notes (kudos to him, I can't hit a high note to save MY life)... and good on the Cat Stevens as well.
my daughter who is 28 yrs old. this Your Song, was her wedding song . just last year. a Classic and she wouldnt tell us and it was a surprise.
Love this song! But probably my favorite EJ ballad is "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" and I'd love to get your reactions on it! Thanks, guys!!❤
Every song from Elton's "Tumbleweed Connection" is worth a reaction from you guys. My personal favorite from that album is "Where To Now St. Peter".
Tumbleweed Connection does Not get enough attention for the complete album it is. Full play on Patreon? It'd be nice...
Great album! All his 70's albums are great!
Burn Down The Mission is my favorite from Tumbleweed, especially the Live in Australia version.
You guys should check out "Bad Side Of The Moon" or "Take Me To The Pilot" from the album "11-17-70". Recorded live in studio in front of a small audience. The rockingest piano, bass, drums trio you've ever heard.
The ultimate live feel of the true Elto sound!
They reacted to take me to the pilot in one of the deep cut streams. :)
@@teib757 Yes they did. I forgot about that. They haven't heard this live version though. Totally different vibe.
@@teib757 Thank you because I don’t always get to listen to those live reactions.
👍😎 11/17/70 is a fantastic album. When I want to listen to Elton, that’s the one I go to, first. Banger all the way through 🖖
Andy, you might change to an S over time. The more you hear this song, the more it becomes part of your life.
Absolutely what I was thinking.
Elton John was HUGE in the 1970s - from Crocodile Rock, to Saturday night’s alright for fighting, goodbye yellow brick road, rocket man - so many hits. He molded an entire generation of music.
One of the greatest lines in music history: "I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind, that I put down in words. How wonderful life is, while you're in the world!"
Taupin is a genius.
This is Elton during his best years when his voice and playing were true! Add Take !e Yo The Pilot Madman Across The Water, Levon , And Crockadile Rock And you will only begin to understand the depth of Reginald’s magic!
Saturday Nights All Right for Fighting - Elton doing early rock style. Real good
My favorite Elton song. ❤️ The scene in Rocketman for this song gave me chills.
And I feel lucky that I heard these songs first on a radio. Mama bought me a transistor when I was 11ish. Thank her every day she had music in the house. Miss her so.
This brings memories flooding back. My last year of high school, sitting in my room listening to this album. So beautiful!
I keep telling you guys, Madman Across the Water is brilliant!
almost teared up watching your reaction to this song. Your facial expressions said it all. Thank you!
Definite S. Any collaboration with Bernie Taupin is absolute genius, this song being the pinnacle, but there are so many more. Elton’s newer songs without Bernie are okay, but they lack Bernie’s sublime lyrical touch. Great pick. Great reaction.🔥🤙
Always nice to return to Sir Elton. So much more to discover. "Levon" and "Where to Now St. Peter?" are 2 of my favorites.
Levon is the next EJ song to check out, my favorite without hesitation
Two Elton songs with similar vibes are "Mona Lisa & Mad Hatters" and "Levon". You guys will love them
We've all heard it a million times... we appreciate you guys and seeing your reactions really do bring us all back to our first times. For instance every time I hear "Money" from Pink Floyd it takes me right back to a moment in 1973 watching my older brother puting a quarter in the jukebox at Mancini's pizza boy! For us this was considered a treat, access to music wasn't as it is today, and when it played on the radio we were getting the AM edited version. Keep up the good work ! remember there's a lot of stuff you guys got to get to 🤘💯😎
Yep these songs bring back so many great memes from the 70s
For an early Elton rocker give Burn Down the Mission a listen.
I know "we/I" are getting old but he dominated the airwaves for so long, he is a huge part of "the soundtrack of our lives" 🤘😎🤙
Amen.
Elton John wrote a tribute song for John Lennon. It's called "Empty Garden." Beautiful song.
Would love to see you guys react to it.
If so, thanks in advance.
Absolutely my favorite Elton song!
Hit the Elton John ballad, "Ticking." All keyboard and all riveting story. The man's keyboard prowess is unequalled in this one.
I've always thought of Elton John as a balladeer with the ability to venture all over the soundscape. Other songs that I favor (your smilage may vary) are Take Me To The Pilot, Tiny Dancer, Madman Across The Water, Honky Cat, Mona Lisa's And Mad Hatters, and Rocket Man. The man is gifted, offering something for almost everyone.
Throw in Empty Garden, Sacrifice and Someone saved my life tonight to that list.
That’s a very good list. I’d throw in Border Song & pretty much everything off Tumbleweed Connection.
Elton John and Bernie Taupin, one of the great songwriting duos of the 20th Century. For some more upbeat EJ: Honky Cat and Bitch is Back. Great reaction Gents! ✌💜🎶
S tier song all day long. I was half expecting a standing ovation from the guys - that’s how good it is.
If you guys love the way he brings in the drums midway thru a song...it doesn't get better than "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me."
Wow, your ear for hearing all the instruments, what's going on production wise is amazing Alex. Excellent review!! You guys must be the best reaction channel on you tube. I love when you shut down to look at the lyrics too.
I was surprised they didn’t pick out the harp sound. It plays with and wraps around acoustic guitar throughout the song. Mesmerizing and beautiful.
@@danapaul3216 that's right the harp great point
Bernie Taupin’s lyrics go so great with Elton John’s music. Definitely in the top 5 song writing duos of all time.
This is the song I’ve dedicated to my son because when he was a baby I was of course raising him alone and very poor so I had this cassette tape Best of Elton John and I used to dance my son to sleep by this song. I even got the main line tattooed “how wonderful life is while you’re in the world”
I saw Elton John one warm summer night under the stars. It was amazing! It was so cool because everywhere we looked around us everyone was singing along. I mean EVERYBODY! We were in our 30s at the time. There were people older than us and a lot younger than us. This wonderful music brought us all together. It was a magical moment in time. Music truly is the universal language. ❤️
NEXT? Come on friends in the A&A community! Raise your voices for LEVON!
I'd recommend "Border Song", "Mona Lisa and Madhatters" or "Levon". Can't go wrong with any of them or all the other suggestions given in the comments.
I'd like to add Philadelphia Freedom to that list! It's just such a joyous song.. about a tennis team?! Lol
It does not matter how many times I hear an Elton John song. I get goosebumps like I did the first time. Every single time.
Elton John used to say that when he's writing a song, if he's ever in doubt to always write a hymn. Candle in the Wind, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Sacrifice, The Last Song, Nikita are all fantastic songs.
One of the most iconic songs ever written. Doesn’t get much better than this.
Quintessential love song for a generation. Has brought many a tear to young ladie's eyes over the years.. and maybe even a few guys. 😉
S tier all day long.
If you haven't reacted yet to "Philadelphia freedom" that's an iconic recording from 1975 that pays homage to the Philly/soul sound of the 70s. It has disco/rb leanings and Elton can really belt it out of the park!
This is one of his early hits, and he's definitely a rock n' roller! We were so spoiled in the 70's with great music! My very best memories! Philadelphia Freedom is another one of his early hits that usually gets overlooked but just as awesome!
It's a flat out S Tier song on so many levels. It's just a matter of what level you're personally on that dictates how it hits you in that moment.
Great song, from a great songwriting team- Elton John(music) and Bernie Taupin(words). So many hit songs
Such varied music. “Crocodile Rock”, “Madman Across the Water”, Honky Cat”, “Levon”….
First saw Elton in Hollywood, FL at the "Sportatorium" ( the middle of nowhere with the Everglades not far west of the venue) in 1973. He was touring the "Yellow Brick Road " album. This was before flashy costumes or glasses.
Alex, the whole concert was goosebumps! Elton and his band were so good that words can't describe it.
Saw him in Miami in the late '80s full costumes and wild glasses. Still amazing...but the coolest thing was that at the beginning of the concert, he turned around and said "Hello" to all the people with seats behind him (looking at his back, view) and proceeded to tell them to come down and sit in the empty seats he had set up right in front of him!!! The place went insane with cheers. Unbelievably classy thing to do 🤩👍
I became infatuated with EJ after hearing this song as a young girl. The early Elton was the best. Madman Across the Water and Someone Saved My Life Tonight were always my faves as well. Bernie and Elton were the Dynamic Duo of songwriting!
This is the first Elton John/Bernie Taupin song I ever heard, which was the week the album was released. I was about 11 years old. My brother is 10 years older than me and I listened to everything he listened to. I'm so glad you guys liked this song so much.
Great job, guys. So appreciate hearing these songs that I've heard my whole life (I was 7 when this came out) with brand new ears! Early Elton had fantastic vocals, such a versatile voice. Suggest changing it up next with an early Elton banger: *Honky Cat* though *Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting* rocks even harder than Funeral/Love Lies Bleeding if Alex wants more of Elton's rock cred.
These would be some if my picks, as well!
This is his song for everyone. Everyone that listens to it can say it's their song.
How has someone never heard Your Song? You'd have to be living under a rock. That's crazy.
If you've listened to the whole Yellow Brick Road album, then there's no excuse for not doing All the Girls Love Alice.
I've always loved that song. My dog was named Alice because of it.
A definite banger!
I just posted the same message elsewhere in this thread. One of the unsung heroes of this album.
Really good to notice the Upright Bass... I thought I was the only one who noticed.
I have said it a thousand times, but this is Elton's greatest single song and the one that launched his career in the US of A. AT the Troubador, in LA. For me, the line about how wonderful the life and the world is, as long as you are alive and in it. That is the most meaningful song lyric for me personally. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The way the strings come in at the second verse always gets me. Masterpiece.
Don't know if I missed y'all doing these, but my favorite Elton John songs are: 1) Someone Saved My Life Tonight; and 2) Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me. The first is more about the piano and the second is about John's voice (though the George Michael/Elton John duet of 2 is also great).
As an expecting teenage mom in 1985 I listened to this song daily. That baby is now nearly 37 and it still gives me goosebumps.
He is the soundtrack to my childhood. The world is gonna be a sadder place when he leaves it.
Voted by people in Britain as Elton John's best song. Bernie wrote it when he was 17. Haven't Elton and Bernie been such a fantastic duo who have given us such gems. I can't choose between Your Song and Tiny Dancer as my fav
This song put them on the map. Incredible vocals, beautiful songwriting from Bernie. He has so many great songs. The ultimate rocker, saturdays alright for fighting. Other great ones, Levon, Harmony, Philadelphia Freedom, Friends.
I forgot about Philadelphia Freedom. Hottest song at one of our school dances.
@@dwinkleman I remember riding home from high school with it blaring on the bus, ha.
This is the first Elton John song I ever heard and fell in love
“…anyway, the thing is…” S tier for sure ✨
If I’m not mistaken, this was Elton’s first hit in the States. Still one of his best IMO. Thanks for the memories, guys!
First one I remember in California. 👍
There's a song by Elton called "Ticking", it will have a profound effect on you, and, it has some of the finest piano playing you will ever hear. Trust me..........
Very different. Very dark.
Yep. That is a masterpiece without a doubt!
Immaculate indeed! Berine and Elton's collaboration do it again. Love it, love it, love it! 😽
Elton John is his own special genre of awesomeness.
Can't go wrong with Elton John's work in the 70s. Some suggestions (songs that weren't big hits) - "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters", "All the Girls Love Alice", "High Flying Bird", "Take Me to the Pilot".
