-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.c...
Bernie Taupin has to be one of the greatest song writers in the past half century…
yes!!
Lyracist. Elton is the song writer.
@@blanetalklyricist.* And last time I checked, lyrics are part of a song. Taupin and Elton were both songwriters.
But then again no…
rod Stewart the faces?
Hmm? Maybe I have no clue. Broken ribs and flexerall right now so I'm just mellow.
Rock on..
🤘🕊️♥️🎶🍬👂🤤
Highly recommend Elton John's "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" both musically and lyrically excellent.
I think they may have reacted to it a few years ago already.
@@DreamsSketcher If they did, I don't remember it.
Yes, IMO the best "EJ" song ever, a masterpiece. I tried looking it up and from what I gather, they have not reacted to this song
Magnificent song.
@@DreamsSketcher Yes, they already did it.
Can I just say how much I appreciate that you guys don’t interrupt while the song is playing? Not enough reviewers do that . Thanks.
Yes, yes. Yes!
But I understand why they interrupt!
They don’t do the videos. That’s why they can usually not do the interruptions. There is something about just closing your eyes and really listening to the song.
When I was 14 this song kept me alive. Yes I was at that point. I am now 60 and and this song still brings me to tears
I first heard it when I was maybe 12, in the early 90s. I didn't have the emotional maturity to understand what I was feeling, but it hit me squarely in the gut. I listened to it over and over and over. It wasn't until a few years later how much it kept me going during a part of my life that wound up being particularly tough. It's a masterpiece that insists that you can find the light through serious darkness. Exceptionally special.
I'm 54 and this song hits me every time!
I'm 61...this song still pulls me out of the muck...I've been through miles of muck. Thank you Sir Elton John and may God bless.
Honestly, the fact that Elton's appreciation from today's generation being so low is actually kind of depression. I mean, you are talking about one of the world's BEST performers, singing memorable and incredible songs on a consistent basis and influencing so many different artists in so many different genres. This sort of talent isn't just "hard to find"... but one that extremely RARE to begin with. And despite being from different generations, you cannot heap enough praise on Elton as he actually deserves to be heaped upon him.
So, seeing younger people reacting to his songs for the first time is an absolute treat because it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that when you have "greatness" in front of you, it transcends time itself.
I wouldn’t worry whether today’s kids listen to the music we grew up on or not, because we don’t listen to their music either. Every generation for the most part likes the music of their youth, and because Elton John or LED Zeppelin is not on my grandkids Spotify doesn’t bother me in the least, because Drake or Taylor Swift isn’t on mine either
Agree with you 💯. I listened to my mom's music growing up (Motown), and it brings back wonderful memories every time a song comes on from that era. Of course I got into my music at a later age, like Elton John and many more artists from the '70's ❤
@@sandymiller3577 I will listen to everything from Sinatra to Zeppelin to Greta Van Fleet, but my preference would be the music I grew up on of course. Queen is the top rock act downloaded, mostly because the Beatles never put their music on until 2015
In uk this was a number 1 done as a duet with George Michael 🎩
@herrzimm Elton is one of my grandkids' favorites, and they are 11 and 16. Great music will always find a way.
Love this song. His duet with George Michael is also great.
Incredible version
A must view and reaction
The duet version is incredible
OMG YASSSS> WHEN ELTON HITS THE STAGE I GET GOOSEBUMPS!
Yes. That's the version that I suggested, too. Very dynamic!
I saw Elton twice in concert and he was better in concert than on a record! Love those days!
My first concert was Elton John. Honky Chateau was out and getting big airplay. Elton introduced songs off his newest album during the show, Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player. I think Daniel was the A side single from that album. If you missed an Elton concert from that era, you missed a great show.
That line “these cuts I have…oh they need love to help them heal…” punches me in the gut everytime I heard. As a survivor of abuse this song is powerful to me
My favorite line, too!
Everybody needs a little love in their lives, and when you don't get it, those cuts take forever to heal if they ever heal at all!!! Getting that hug or those kind words from someone makes ALL the difference in the world!!!
Yes, very powerful line.
There is a live version of this with George Michael that is awesome. Multiple goose bumps and when Elton himself comes out to sing with George it's just too good.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Elton John!” …crowd goes wild!
And the Roger Daltry version from The Lost Boys soundtrack really hits home too. It's a credit to really great songwriting.
WoW! I've heard this song countless times since the 70's, but I forgot how great it was. Thanks!
This song highlights Elton's amazing talent to convey emotions in his vocals. The best example of this in a long catalogue of songs is "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" - perhaps because he is essentially singing his story (thru Bernie Taupin's words). "Bitch is Back" would be a good palate cleanser first, but "Someone" is the S-Tier Elton song still to be discovered.
Couldn’t agree more! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I'm old enough to remember when he ruled the roost in the music world. Post-Beatles, he was the next worldwide superstar.
The dynamic range of this song is incredible.
And don't forget. Bernie Taupin is the lyricist for Elton. Amazing stuff from them both.
Im 63 and grew up when Elton was in his heyday and you couldnt turn a streecorner without hear Eltons song coming from record stores, car stereos, etc. the combination of bernie taupins lyrics and eltons musical arrangements is a timeless combo
Can we take a moment to appreciate Sir Elton John's amazing musical journey over half a century? A powerhouse live performer, a prolific songwriter with Bernie Taupin (and Tim Rice). I know I'm biased because I grew up listening to EJ, but what a legacy!
May be Elton's most profound song for me. I absolutely love this song and Elton John was a force in the 70's,
I just saw Elton live in Stockholm on his last ever concert on his last ever tour and he did this song beautifully. Truly a spectacular artist with a massive catalog.
Wow! You were there? That may be one to tell your grandkids.
@@valelavidavivir5842 Yeah definitely. I almost cried during “Tiny Dancer”. Not because the song is sad or anything but just the feeling that it’s truly the end of a fantastic era and an artist that will live on in so many people’s hearts.
Lucky you! I only saw him once, Madison Square Garden in NYC, late '70s, so he was at the top of his game, and popularity. Somehow I missed that he was on his final tour, only found out when I got RUclips suggestions from that final show you attended last week. Thank goodness for people posting -- you can relive your experience, and we can feel just a little that we were there for the end of an amazing era.
The king of all power ballads. My favorite air drums song of all time. I know every dramatic strike. Nigel Olssen is legendary on this.
Please understand that Elton John did not write the lyrics of his songs. They were almost exclusively written by Bernie Taupin (up to about 1976) which encompass his best songs. That said, Elton took the lyrics and ran with some great music.
He certainly did, and ghat was no different than Elvis or Sinatra, who didn’t write their songs but were great singers and entertainers
@@HamiltonRb EJ wrote the music, BT the lyrics, so it WAS different from Elvis and Sinatra, who wrote neither.
It's all about the team! They are magical together. Neither would be anything without the other. Together they are magical🎉
@@sammybeck7794 there was a period of time where they weren't working together. they eventually started up again years later.
@@histubenesshat’s true but Elvis did arrange his own stuff . He had a big hand it how it was played and performed by all involved . But he was not a song writer probably wasn’t allowed to be
Elton is an endless well of top tier songs.
Omg, yes. It's mind-blowing.
Yep
The Bitch Is Back is the antithesis of this song. It’s a banger & a 1/2! Definitely a must hear.
And Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting!
The live version with George Michael is goosebumps inducing...
This is defo the best ver, Elton and Georges voices are just magical together
One of my favorite Elton John songs
Oh, don't not give Elton an A+ because he has so many A+ songs, give him an A+ BECAUSE he has so many A+ songs!
This is Elton at his peak. 11 albums released from 1969 - 1976 and two of them were double albums. It is almost hard to believe this is from a half century ago.
One of my favourite songs. I went to see Elton John in concert last year and when he played this song my eyes welled up, I could see lots of other people were moved by it as well.
Agree 100 percent
Beautiful song…
Harmony is another one . ❤️
ohhh, Harmony ...yes
@Flowerchick1967 🌷I always Loved "Harmony & Me" ... we're pretty good company 💜 floating in our boat upon the sea. Harmony - gee I really love ya and I wanna love you forever! 🎵 Never leavin' Harmony. 🎵 Never leavin' Harmony. 🎵
they listened to Harmony on Patreon when they did Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Davey Johnstone said he suggested Harmony to add on to Farewell tour, but sadly no...
@@geeselikeganders OK thanks. I'm not on Patreon.
He has a live performance with George Michael that is fantastic. The two together are perfect.
Got to check out the George Michael/Elton John duet live. Phenomenal.
Philadelphia Freedom, Island Girl and Empty Garden are all great EJ songs. Backup vocals were done by a couple of the Beach Boys and Toni Tennille. Good stuff.
That's cool, I never knew that.
I've never liked Island Girl. I always felt that album, Rock of the Westies, was his first of many mediocre ones after his streak of amazing ones.
Someone Saved My Life Tonight is my favorite Elton song, forever.
This was the first song to which I ever danced with a boy, at a dance in 1977. I was 12 and had a massive crush on him. Every time I hear it Imw right back in the middle -school gym. Thanks for the blast from the past!
He does a great cover of The Beatle's "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" that's well worth a listen.
Yes. Big hit. EJ loved the original.
Yes. I would even go so far to say that his cover version is better than the original by The Beatles.
Fun facts:
Members of The Beach Boys contributed to this song, and in fact, two sing backup, Brian Johnston and Carl Wilson.
Bruce Johnston not Brian
As well as Toni Tennille from the Captain and Tennille
I never knew that and I'm a huge Beach Boys fan.
Interesting… the original “The chorus of the song is supported with a horn arrangement by Del Newman, and features backing vocals by Carl Wilson and Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys and Toni Tennille. The original backing vocalists were Cat Stevens, Danny Hutton, Gerry Beckley, Dusty Springfield and Brian Wilson but according to Bruce "everyone was afraid of one another and I couldn't get a performance out of anyone".[2] Also on the song are percussion accents provided by Ray Cooper and a mellotron played by Dave Hentschel.”
I never knew this and now that I know, boy can I ever hear it!
The live duet of this song wirh George Michael is S Tier+ 👌
Levon and Someone Saved My Life Tonight are 2 BANGERS!!!
This song could make you instantly tear up. Brilliant!
Great song! Elton John is the Bomb!
In your Elton queue, please add "Philadelphia Freedom" and "Someone Saved My Life Tonight".
You're going to love "The Bitch is Back"!
Imagine a twelve year old kid and this was a standard hit of that time. Compared to the music popular today…no comparison. If Elvis owned the 50’s, Beatles 60’s..70’s ?? Safe to say it was Elton. This tune is probably top 15 of Elton’s songs. Just too many in that golden era to choose from. Also, the vocals and arrangement make this an epic.
S-tier. Period. Elton at his best. With Carl Wilson on backing vocals and Bruce Johnston and Toni Tenille, I believe. Just excellent in every way.
I thought it sounded like the Beach Boys. Thanks for confirming!
It's 1975 and I'm at an 8th grade dance dancing with a girl to this song......fast forward 26 years and I'm holding her in my arms softly singing this song in her ear as she takes her last breath.
Strangely enough I almost never get the urge to put on an Elton John record, yet every time I hear him I'm amazed by how good he is. One of the Top 10 solo artists of all time, easily.
From the Caribou album, I like all the songs on it, you won't go wrong with "The Bitch is Back", and although never released as a single, "Ticking" is a song I know will resonate very strongly even now, almost 50 years later. Excellent song, extremely haunting lyrics.
‘Ticking’ is a phenomenal song… I get goosebumps just thinking about it… sadly more relevant today than even when it was written .
Oh yes I'd almost forgotten about how good ticking is.
This song hits harder now that I'm old. I hear regret, not just towards a lover, but any relationship.
I'm a little stunned we still have to tell you Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics for the vast majority of Elton's hits. And he did in this case. They are both absolutely 100% geniuses. Elton's musical genius and Taupin's lyrical genius. When discussing the lyrics you HAVE to mention him and possibly try to work out what he was trying to say. Obviously Elton's performance is critical as well.
What an ARTIST. Phenomenal comes to my mind. Love his music.
This was one of his most memorable songs for me. I’m super anxious to see this reaction. Keep doing what you do. Haven’t missed one reaction. I predict you’ll love this song. 🎶🎤🎧
I would've thought so too but it seemed to fall flat.
@@MoMoMyPup10 Maybe you had to live it. I really thought they’d love it.
I grew up listening to Elton John. Don’t let the sun go down on me didn’t hit me until George Michael performed it with Elton John live. Then it became one of my favorites! But then again. I feel nostalgic and I have a longing when I hear it. That was then. This is now
I’ll always chime in on every Elton reaction and recommend Levon:) Great song with some of my favorite lyrics from him
Great song. MATW album, incredible.
Should absolutely do Madman as a whole album reaction
I love when y’all discuss the lyrics!
This song and "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" (1975) are his two most dramatic ballads, I think. But my favorite EJ song is "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" (1972). All highly recommended.
Love that song. He played it for 9/11 concert fundraiser. About New York.
What we didn't appreciate as much back in the day was the extremely careful crafting of every element in this amazing recording. See, we were spoiled because there was SO MUCH GREAT MUSIC happening. We just loved the song and absorbed it along with the rest. Listening to it now, I hear the orchestration, the phenomenal choral accents, the horns, the organ, the drums are incredible...Elton's vocal is tremendous. Put me in the backseat emersing myself in the music as we cruised around town. Thanks for discovering this and letting us watch.
Yes, Next: The B**** is Back.
At 13-14 yrs. old I was a major, major Elton John fan. 💜 💜It has lasted over the decades. This song was incredible and a giant tear-jerker. It sure does resonate even today. I had a dozen or more of his albums that I literally wore out. Bernie Taupin & Elton John - an incredible duo of songwriter and musician.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As I listen to this, I'm reminded of the production quality at the time. You add this to music that's already amazing and it the extra sparkle. Elton has a great feel for developing his phrasing to emphasis, punctuate, and add dynamics. This song has to be one the list of his greatest, and the full cast deserves respect and gratitude.
As many have said the George Michael duet is mint
I've seen Elton 5 times. I love him. With each passing year he gets better. He ages like a fine wine. Fan for over 50 years. I suggest All the Girls love Alice. Also Madman Across the Water & Empty Garden a tribute to JohnLennon. I was lucky enough to hear him play that for the first time at Madison Square Garden. I loved John as well. Cried my eyes out. . Long live Elton.❤❤
A&A, you'll love his "Philadelphia Freedom" and "Honky Cat"!!
You should post your reaction to "Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting" from the album review in June.
Classic Elton…. Soundtrack of my childhood ❤️ “S” their for me personally 🔥
'always someone else I see' - I'm living the life someone else wants me to live, not being my true self -
This is definitely one of my favorites of his songs - so many meanings you can take out of it and mostly because of the passion on the song!
Went to his Farewell Concert...
It was AMAZING! ❤❤❤❤
Great song. Paid special attention to Nigel Olsson's drumming this time, he really controls the dynamics of the piece. For some reason I've always grouped this one with "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" and "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues".
Nigel and Davey in 2011 (Elton John "Hits 1" Tour, songs back to '69) .. probably the two most flawless concert performers I've seen. Frankly scared, in case Nigel wasn't the maestro he sounded like in the studio. He was better.
You guys are not only the best reaction team out there but you make it look easy (I hope it is for you). I like how you respect the music and the talent that makes it. Keep it up!
Coincidently, Elton just played his last concert a few nights ago. Someone Saves My Life Tonight is one of my favourite EJ songs. It's a great one!
Sound track of my life! Elton was there for a large part of growing up!
Sir Elton has a good handful of S-tier songs from the 70s, and this is definitely one of them. A&A, please revisit this one at some point.
The piano in this song is incredible. Great pick!!!!!
Dudes, the next Elton song must be "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" His most Bangy Banger, can't believe you have yet to hear it!!!
Yes!
I sang this in my vocal class long ago. Piano only. The teacher didn't know this song, but she sounded great. I knocked it out of the park
Best Elton John song ever! George Michael did an incredible cover of it too.
It was actually a duet with George and Elton. Still a great version either way.
This is a great live version worthy of its own reaction. I won't give away the surprise for those who haven't heard it or seen the video.
The song “Ticking” is heartfelt and phenomenal. A must listen. ❤
Again, I'm sighing over Alex's lovely eyes. Welcome back Alex!
You know how to woo a girl
😩
@@andyandalex Oh no! Andy's sad. Don't worry Andy, there are loads of babes out there waiting for you.
Alex I missed your facial hair. Welcome back bro.
Also next "Honky Cat" because rocking Elton.
Nice day for sir Elton.... try The Bitch is Back.... banger all day
Banger all day every day
This was released in late spring of 74, I had just met the new girl in 9th grade and she was quickly grafted into my circle of freinds. We had the best summer ever, and then she moved away. We are freinds again thanks to facebook. Time passes, but these great songs of our youth keep the feelings and memories close in our hearts. The gang is still hangin', if only in our minds. Love ya, Ginger!
This is such an incredible song and definitely one of my favorites. George Michael sang this with Elton John and it was an incredible performance. Two great artists knocking it out of the park. It’s definitely worth a listen.
THIS is an "S" tier song if there ever was one. Elevated to "S+" when in March of '91 George Michael invited John to join him in singing a duet of this great masterpiece. It was epic and became an instant classic after its release as a single later that year.
Additionally, it's almost criminal to disregard the mentioning of Bernie Taupin when reacting to Elton John.
Here at 3:59… in the George Michael video he shouts “Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr Elton John”. I get chills every time I see that uptake!
I'm glad you found the "discard me" line amusing. I love it, too.
If you let this album play to the end you will come across a song called "Ticking", which contains some of the finest piano playing you will ever hear! And it's coupled with some of Taupin's hardest hitting lyrics. I've said this before, but you need to hear it.
I’m 59 years old and had not only the privilege but honor to witness Elton John live 12 times over the last 40 years. A complete musical Genius. One concert was over the top because it was Elton John and Billy Joel as one concert!!! What a night of fantastic music. You need to watch the duet he did with George Michael at live Aid it’s a great version of this song!👍🏻 I truly enjoy watching your musical education journey, just like l did when l was your age!!!👍🏻👍🏻
Would love to see you react to George Michael's live version of this Elton song with a guest appearance by Sir Elton himself! It's a phenomenal live performance!
Elton's "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" is a good upbeat song from him. Glad to have you back, Alex!
My absolute favorite EJ song. Carl Wilson from the Beach Boys and Toni Tenille provide backing vocals.
His performance of this song at his solo concert in Edinburgh is a must watch aswell!
George Michael’s version is wonderful. They were great friends, and Elton put this song in excellent hands.
So good. What a genius pairing between Elton & Bernie.
Love any and all Elton John songs! I've always felt, though, that his earliest work was his deepest and most raw. Just about any song on the album, Tumbleweed Connection, is just so amazing.❤
Great album - just put Madman above it though .
Awesome! Can't wait for you guys to experience a musical Masterpiece from a living legend. Let's go🙌
Just a big old heap of perfection, which is pretty much par for the course with Elton. The words of Bernie Taupin, the voice and piano of Elton, and man, the orchestration! I had forgotten just how good the drums sound in this song.
" Frozen here, on the ladder of my life..." Brilliant lyrics, Bernie!
You should do a John song, that isn't as big next. He did a Country song in the early 70s, called "Country Comfort". Very simplistic music, with good vocals, and great imagery. Bit of a deep cut.
Good one.
George Michael did a cover of this in the 80s that, halfway through, turned into a duet with none other than Sir Elton himself. There is a live version of this performance that is really special. Both versions are great.
I believe Elton performed his final live performance last night. I teared up a bit hearing this. I’ve been a huge fan since the very beginning. ❤
Saw him in the late '90s and he played over a four hour show, every song the audience wanted. Definitely one of my top shows.
Stop it ... getting goosebumps over that.
Wow guys I can see my 13 year old self jammin the hell out of this. This song was so damn good when it was released. Elton was a serious badass in those days. Love your channel guys and thanks and take care.
Same here & same age 👍🏻
Anything less than an A would be scandalous. Some songs are just perfection and this feels like one of those.
I highly recommend watching George Michael and Elton singing this live. They both put on an amazing performance.
You gotta hit The Bitch is Back. It's a banger! This song right here is one of my favs from Elton. He has way too many fabulous songs to choose from but hit Bitch! It's awesome!
This is one of those songs that really shows off not only Elton's talent, but the band's as well. The backing vocals are written and sung by the band...Nigel Olsson on drums/vocals, Dee Murray on bass/vocals, Davey Johnstone on guitars/vocals and the possibly insane Ray Cooper on tambourine/percussion. Nigel Olsson's drumming in particular is amazing.
And in making these songs, each band member was responsible for creating his own sound within the song...with no input from Elton other than his writing the original melody. That's how Elton and the band could create so much music.
The entire album here (Caribou) was written and recorded in 9 days, in between world tours.
This LP includes a song called “Ticking”, which contains chilling and disturbing lyrics, but also showcases some of Elton John’s best piano work.
