    Hello Alicia :)
    I've been super busy at work so I it wasn't until just now that I finally got I to watch your Q&A. First off, I just want to mention how refreshing it is that you take the time to engage your viewers the way you do, it really shows the authentic nature of your character and the diligence & care that you give to your craft. I enjoyed your Peter-Rabbit story outlining the origins of your career path lol. The police officer you mentioned seems like he certainly had a long-standing affect on your outlook on hypnosis.( there are a lot of people that should thank him for that! Myself included) and as far as your test of faith in regard to the hard science, I'm glad you came around. I found a few case studies where the evidence is definitely there, but, it's like you said, it really ranges from person-to-person. I'll be completely honest with you, had someone suggested for me to listen to some form of hypnosis to get better sleep a year or two ago i might have just

      Shrugged it off. But now I really believe that if you're willing to let yourself go to that place of instructed or guided visualization it's just a matter of time before you arrive at your destination, whatever that subconscious road map area entails will ultimately very from person-to-person just like theirs willingness to ask for directions. Oh, and no worries, you pronounced my name just fine. And yes, you play with your hair a lot, but it's adorable :) kudos to unscripted Q&A videos to bring out oral fixations brought on by modest levels of anxiety. I have a tendency to crack my knuckles whenever i'm talking to more than 20-30 people, I always found that kind of behavior happening during public speaking interesting. Nevertheless, awesome video! Your Amazing, I mention your videos daily so you'll be receiving more subscribers from the New England area here in the good old US of A. You have a subra er for life, I don't know what you did?It's like you hypnotized me or something ;)

    your hypnosis works on me because you give me clear commands (close your eyes, breath now...)

    I have a concern maybe you can address. I've been hypnotized twice, by the same hypnotherapist, for weight loss. Ultimately, it worked and I lost over 30 pounds. I remember most of what happened, but it all really felt like a dream. What kind of worried me about the whole experience was that I very clearly remember just having an overwhelming urge to do what the hypnotist said. Like, I could have resisted, but it would have been difficult, like trying to not scratch an itch or something. When she spoke, I WANTED to listen to her voice, I WANTED to do what she said. It was a strange sensation. My point is, I always think "What if she had told me to rob a bank, or something?" I feel like I would have WANTED to do what she said, in that strange way.

    Hi, Alicia. Interesting Q&A, especially for someone like myself who is pretty much ignorant about the whole subject.
    To touch on one point you made, that doesn't seem to have been mentioned much in other comments: - scientific testing of hypnosis and the efficacy of hypnotherapy. I agree that at the individual level, it is impossible to prove whether a particular treatment worked, but when aggregated (e.g. with a Cochrane meta-study), it ought to be possible to identify statistical correlations that would suggest under which circumstances and for what problems hypnotherapy might be the most effective treatment.
    Similarly, whilst it is difficult to study what is really going on in someone's head during hypnosis when consciousness itself is still not well understood and not objectively measurable, it would be quite interesting to know what changes are occurring in the brain during hypnosis and whether everyone's brain state changes in the same way or whether everyone is different. Given the huge improvements in brain scanning technology recently, it ought to be possible and indeed practical to perform such experiments - indeed I can't believe that such studies haven't been done. I don't expect to find a "hypnosis " area in the brain, but it would be interesting to find out what areas in the brain appear to be affected and whether such changes can be seen to correlate with particular hypnotic states.
    Anyway, better stop now - didn't mean to write an essay! Be interested to hear your thoughts or if you're aware of any existing studies out there.

    Questions. TV and spy movies. Someone is hypnotized or "brainwashed" to have a trigger word or phrase. When the villain uses the trigger the subject goes into a trance and obeys anything the villain tells them. Like assassinate someone. Is their any ounce of truth to this or is it just a writer plot ploy? You can't do anything you don't want to do, right?
    Question 2. Highway or road hypnosis. Drivers getting hypnotized or mesmerized by long straight stretches of road. Is this similar to the staring at a fixed point induction? Any suggestions on how to not let it effect the driver?

    Hi Alicia,
    I might argue that Psychology (and even Psychiatry) are far from "hard sciences" in general. I would tend to view hypnotherapy as a branch of psychology - a soft science - and results are no more and no less demonstrable.
    In addition to your suggestion that [some things work for some people and not others], I might also suggest that concomitant therapy and reinforcement is more likely to achieve desired results. "Don't put all your egg [trees] in one basket" :-)
    ...and entirely unrelated: those frames are adorable on you!
    Thank you for the effort you put into your videos. I've enjoyed discovering your channel!

    Question. Movie and Magician rapid (10-20 second)/instant induction. Can induction really work this fast? I also saw a street magician on a TV show once putting people out like lights with a flyer. He would hand them the flyer they would look at it and some would pass out on the spot. Some would stagger like they were really drunk and then pass out. What visuals or phrases could do this if any? (trying not to sound doubting and suspicious. I'm just curious and would like to learn more.) I just realized how silly this question is in a way seeing that I watched your butterfly rapid induction and it worked on me. I'm just very interested and would like to learn more. :D

    • @AliciaFairclough
      @AliciaFairclough  8 лет назад +5

      Not a silly question at all. Those street videos with people passing out in a few seconds or 'unsuspecting' people being hypnotised instantly are all 100% fake nonsense.

    Have you ever dealt with someone experiencing or diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)? Though I most commonly think of military members and veterans when I hear or read about it; unless I am mistaken, it can happen to anyone who has experienced something traumatic. Does revisiting a crisis/traumatic event in a person's life tend to aid them in recovery, or hinder the healing, or would that fall under the "everyone is different" category? Does PTSD have another name in Australia or does it go by the same one?

    • @AliciaFairclough
      @AliciaFairclough  8 лет назад

      +nerdygentleman02 I have. PTSD is still PTSD in Australia. Although all PTSD clients I had were in Vancouver when I lived there. I'm a big fan of regression therapy and revisiting the event to resolve it but I would take my time. I wouldn't do it in the first session. I would work up to it, build trust and ease in.

      no probs haha!...I'm also an Aussie...! I became interested in hypnosis recently because I have gotten back on the spiritual path and I am reading a book called 'Self Hypnosis for cosmic consciousness'. (Ronald A Havens). Seems like a comprehensive overview of the subject ...it's getting onto the scripts now so thought I 'd have a go with some professionals like yourself first as it says this is beneficial. I think it will help to unlock my creativity as a muso as we know that it comes from the subconscious. I wonder if you could do a script on this topic for us (unlocking creativity). Keep up the good work!

      +Dan McKnight It's such an awesome Australian event and so difficult to explain to anyone who isn't from Australia. I highly recommend it for anyone who can go.
      The Royal Easter Show is massive. My day at the show basically consists of eating a lot of carnival food (I wait all year for my deep fried cheese on a stick and old fashioned lemonade). I watch the wood chopping competitions, I love watching the precision race car drivers, I go to the food pavilion and try all kinds of things and watch cooking demonstrations, I always buy a Berty Beetle Chocolate showbag. I then go and wander through the produce displays and visit the farm animals (though not for too long cos I hate the smell lol). Love the Alpacas! Then I go to the evening show (music, motocross, rodeo and all kinds of strange Australian things).

    any opinion on astral projection. Do you think people really leave their bodies, or is it some sort of hypnotic or dream state. can hypnosis create an astral projection
    whether real or not?

    • @AliciaFairclough
      @AliciaFairclough  8 лет назад +2

      +Mike Hesik I don't have a strong opinion to be honest. I've had a handful of people book me to try and have that experience. They all had very different descriptions and it wasn't what any of them had expected. Personally I don't believe anyone can leave their body but I do think it's possible that people have the experience of leaving their body in their mind.

    I should've asked my question sooner! I was curious, is it possible to 'force' someone into trance, or do they need to be 100% willing to be hypnotized? Perhaps another way to ask this is if the subject's resistance can be broken down through induction or the like.
    Also, personally I'd be really interested in seeing a pendulum induction on your channel at some point (maybe followed by explaining why that's a technique that works), but I end up really enjoying all your videos so this is just a thought :)

    hey I'm new into this, I have a friend that offered me hypnosis is there any risk of me being manipulated?

      There is always a risk of "being manipulated" but it isn't through hypnosis. A manipulative person doesn't need hypnosis to help them. You're not going to do anything you have a moral issue with just because of hypnosis.

      Ok so there is no manipulation with hypnosis meaning i wont do something without my free will?

    I don't know if you're a really good of hypnotist or you're just so hot, but I'm mesmerized

      I like to think I'm good at what I do or I wouldn't be here doing it.

      I'm not even slightly physically attracted (just not my thing) - so my vote is that you're really good at what you do.
      I appreciate why men find you pulchritudinous, you're classically attractive, but your selling point works every bit as well for me in a pure audio environment. It's in your tone, pacing, pitch, and yes: what I'd recognize as accent and regional dialect.
      I immediately relate more to a calm woman's voice and, dare I say, feel less "threatened"; or "safer" if you will. I resist induction by male hypnotists, even involuntarily, to the point where I don't receive any value in the session.
      It's one of those "what works for you" things.
      I sometimes relate RUclips to a really bad pub, and I really respect that you have the confidence to put yourself out there like this!

    One thing, I think there must be science behind hypnosis but we haven't discovered it yet.
