Try going to the BIOS (or UEFI) by booting up with F12. Look for a "Performance" setting and turn off the options to enable Speedstep Technology, C-State Control, and Turbo Boost. My Inspiron used to lock up about six times a day until I did that. and now it's fine. I think that allowing the UEFI to dynamically change the processor parameters causes a hardware glitch.

I just bought myself a Dell Inspiron i3 5301 last month and I paid quite a decent amount of money for it. It is by FAR THE WORST computer I have ever come across in my life. DELL should be ashamed of stealing money from us, customers who work very hard for their money and have the hope of buying a computer we think is going to help in our lives. I personally WILL spread the word to EVERYONE I know and will tell them that when it comes to buying a computer, DELL is the worst brand EVER. I strongly encourage you guys who read this not to buy DELL systems. The do not have what it takes to be competitive anymore. They used to but, somewhere down the road they went cheap with the parts and the manufacture of their systems.

I have got a new dell inspiron, and faced freezing and stuttering straight out of the box. So i contacted dell technical support, and did everything the technical support asked me to do. The problem still persists. I went through online forums and found out dell laptops freezing is a common problem and it cannot be solved. I tried to contact a live agent and did all the instructions he asked me to do. Still dell inspiron stutters and freezes. So i went online and found out that dell inspiron laptops hanging is a common problem that existed for more than 6 years. Dell hasn't find out a solution for this problem. So i will ask everyone not to buy dell laptops like me. As any of the above steps or the live agent can help hang up or freezes as the dell inspiron is a broken model which cannot be fixed. Stay away from dell. Don't makr the mistake i did

I bought a Dell $1,200 desktop pc a few months ago and have had nothing but trouble with it. I get crackling sound and cant fix that and the daily freezing. I have to hard restart my machine and that is hard on a HD. I will never buy another Dell if they cant get their stuff together.

For some reason the support assist is the one that’s freezing. Everytime I open it, it either freezes my laptop or it just restarts
How are you supposed to open support assist if the system freezes before you can even get there?

Sadly I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 i3 7th gen that since new as been prety much usless .. or several years I have not used it because I have had other older PCs that still worked . Now I am forced to use it or junk it. This video gave me some new things to try...I have always bought Dell but this one out of the box was junk.

I have this issue on my 7840 laptop, ie freezes under battety power. This happens when running Windows 10 or Linux. The machine successfully passes all the inbuilt diagnostic tests and has the latest bios, version 1.30. I would really appreciate advice from Dell on how to solve this.
I have a new Dell XPS 9720 which freezes under Ubuntu randomly for few seconds then again works normal. I also felt a ver short lag under Windows 10 Pro. I have a read only SDCard installed which yields to some error messages during startup under Ubuntu 22.04.2. Should I bring the device back?

I have a 2 year-old Dell Latitude 5500 with 16 GB RAM, hardly use it since I mostly use my work computer. My laptop began to freeze up within a few minutes of start up.
Since then, I have updated Windows and BIOS/Firmware, ran the Dell Support Assistant (full 40 minute scan), downloaded & installed new drivers, and see the green check (okay) on all parameters.
Doing the above seemed to help a bit and Google Chrome uses about 20% of CPU, and nothing else is really using up the CPU that much. However, even now occasionally, my computer will freeze after a while, and when it's working fine and I just let it idle with the screensaver on, it goes to sleep and I have to power it back on. I can't hit any key to wake it up and try and log in again.
Any suggestions?

I paid Dell Tech Support $105.00 to remotely access the laptop twice already and it still freezes. Now I have a third remote check scheduled of which I am skeptical. I hate the idea of someone from India accessing my computer remotely. What do you think? Should I allow remote access?

I have a inspiring 3891desktop with this problem and I can't find one upload that explains what I can do to fix this. The configuration s are different from a laptop. Very frustrating.
The random freezes are caused by the execution of an FMA3 instruction under "certain circumstances".
This is an Intel microcode bug that dates back to the Haswell and Broadwell micro-architectures.
It was supposed to have been fixed in Skylake, Comet Lake and Rocket Lake, but apparently has
not been fixed. Dell and Intel are aware of the problem but refuse to admit it in order to avoid a
large number of recalls and a possible class action lawsuit. Dell's Support Assist test suite
includes a test specifically designed to catch this problem. I have screen shots of my XPS
8940 (which shares processors and the motherboard with the Optiplex 7090) freezing
while running the FMA3 test.
Disabling C states, Hyper-Threading, SpeedStep and Thermal Shift in the BIOS lowers the
probability of the CPU freezing, but does not eliminate it completely -- and forces its owner
to use a crippled computer that does not meet its advertised specs, all the more so as the
XPS 8940 is marketed as a "gaming computer". Gaming my foot!

PSA: if you own an XPS model, it’s probably because the battery has fried the cpu or is causing overheating. These computers have a “fake sleep feature” which they use to turn on at the absolute worst times (in a bag) to do updates, creating a hot environment. They have poor cooling.

You can't restart because it's frozen if I could check diagnostics there wouldn't be a problem

read all these reviews and only 1 or 2 said this helped, but didnt give any details. Alot of complaints here. My dell M4800 is crashing regularly even after fresh install of windows. But it is about 10 years old so maybe hardware problem. until a couple months ago it worked great these years.

3) there is more in "system devices" Tab and also they dont work or have informations that dont work properly
All Drivers don't work via microsoft update or dell update or other applications to update drivers...even downloaded manual and also dont work...looks like driver or motherboard is not compatibile
on intel forum there is a lot post about switching intel and nvidia maybe this is a problem....can be problem also with chipset compatibility from motherboard

My Dell has one screen page stuck on Twitter. I can't do anything around the stuck page, so I can't do my Turbotax. It never changes and I have tried every single thing I can think of to un freeze it. I can still get to other browsers and apps using space outside that one screen. So far it hasn't let me try to disengage it, but I have no hope for that, since it won't accept my (notated) password or change it to a new one. The center of the stuck screen is the middle of my reply to someone's question.
I've lost all twitter now, by trying to to disable it and add a new one. The new one [susan Strini--which I don't want-- works (well the screens till frozen) but of course it doesn't have anything on it. I can't get rid of it because it won't' accept the old one or change it. And it won't let me reopen my my old account WHICH IS WHAT I WANT TO DO! because it won't accept password (It's indexed) or get a new one. It won't accept my phone, user name, or email address. HELP help, At least if it had accepted phone pw or username, I could use it--minus the frozen post.

This is great if you don't update your pc all the time, but I do and it still freezes. It has from the day that I got it. It freezes every day, at least once. My Ipad never freezes, so I find myself wondering why I bought a Dell. I only got it a few months ago. I have been a pc guy for ever, but it seems that they aren't reliable anymore. They are just garbage. I'm fed up.
