Our pleasure! :)
good info
Thanks for watching!
This method for measuring only works for cabinets that have a face frame. Would be nice to also demonstrate how you calculate sizing for frameless cabinets with full overlay doors.
Yep! That's correct that this is for framed cabinets with a 1 1/4" hinge overlay. Our Frameless measuring video is here ruclips.net/video/DnvKGDfxOn0v/видео.html :)
THANK YOU for this! I found this super easy to understand.. this might be a stupid question bu does the same apply for the cabinet door fronts? or do you have a separate video explaining that?
Good question! We assume you mean drawer fronts?
With drawer fronts, you have a bit more flexibility since you are not confined by the hinge overlay. We suggest matching the width and height of the drawer front to the door or drawer stack that is beside it, and ensuring a consistent "gap" (reveal) between your doors/drawer fronts for a cohesive look!
This blog breaks down all the steps really clearly for you! www.nieucabinetdoors.com/face-framed-cabinets-increase-overlay/
@@NieuCabinetDoors yes, it was the drawer fronts i meant, thank you for taking the time to respond :) truly appreciate it
Our pleasure! Here to help :)
Thanks for the video. Is there a reason your not measuring 1.5 inches all the way around since the face frames stiles are 1.5” not 1.25”?
Hi there! That's correct, this project has a 1/4" "reveal" (aka the gap around the doors), so the doors are measured at 1.25" overlay on the 1.5" face frame. If you have a different sized face frame, you can checkout this blog here that walks through the process for all sizes!
www.nieucabinetdoors.com/face-framed-cabinets-increase-overlay/
Do you have 1” overlay hinges or 7/8” hinges? Are the calculations the same?
We offer 1/2", 3/4" or 1 1/4" hinges on our website, but can help you order any other hinge overlay you might need! Just reach out at contact@nieucabinetdoors.com :)
They may not sell 1 inch over hinges but companies make them. You would just add 2 inches to your opening instead of 2 and a half.
Hi, I've got older (1980's) stick frame cabinets. Will this process differ at all?
Hi Mark! Your process will be very similar to this video, it will just depend if your double door cabinets have a vertical stile in between the doors, or if it it's one large opening like this video shows. We would suggest taking a read through of this blog as well for some helpful tips if your face frames or overlay differ than what you see in this video! www.nieucabinetdoors.com/face-framed-cabinets-increase-overlay/
@@NieuCabinetDoors This is very helpful! Thanks!
What if my frame is 2 inches wide on all sides?
Overlays come in a variety all the way up to the largest of 1 9/16" overlay. If you'd like help from one of our experts via video call, you can book a Zoom call with us at this link and we'll walk you through all the steps: calendly.com/nieu-technical-support/book
was there a reason you used 1/4" reveal as opposed to 1/8" reveal? Thanks!
Hi there! Good question, we showed a 1/4" reveal with the 1 1/4" overlay on 1 1/2" face frames as this is what most standard cabinets have/want to measure for. But you are correct that hinge overlays come in a wide variety of options so you can even go up to the largest 1 9/16" :)
How do you get a full overlay if the face frame is 2"? Hinges only seem to go to 1.5" overlay max.
Hi there! The biggest overlay you can get is 1 9/16", it's more of a specialty overlay but totally doable! Our team can help you with that. We always want to be careful if the frame is 2" but split between two doors on the hinge side - in which case each door is only working with 1" of frame for it's overlay. Feel free to book a Zoom with our team for measuring help! calendly.com/nieu-technical-support/book
maybe i'm missing something but why would i want a 29.5 high door on a 28.5 cabinet?
This cabinet isn't 28.5" - the opening is 27" tall when measuring between the face frames. Adding 2.5" to that for the 1 1/4" overlay on top and bottom yields a door height of 29.5" :)
