    At 6:20 it's also a fantastic canopner but that one works by using it back and not forwards like the Swiss champ got to say those black scales look fantastic for a change over the normal red I've got the farmer x in my poickit right now but I'm a fan of the Swiss champ thanks for sharing your thoughts with us 👍

    Thanks for the video, well done. We have laws similar to your country. I actually EDC the Swiss Champ. I use a lanyard with a clip attached to the keyring on the Champ, then looped around my belt loop and into my front pocket. This way I don't feel the weight, and most of the time I don't notice it in my pocket. The Compact is nice, but I would go for a Climber and change to plus scales at one extra layer. I best small (compared to my Swiss Champ) Victorinox EDC would be an Explorer with plus scales. The inline Philips is very good!

    Sometimes I'll carry a manager on my keychain and also carry a Sportsman (added the mini screwdriver and pin) in the pocket. I put a safety pin between the corkscrew on both to carry one more useful item.
    The compact is the best!

    I Have the Champion, and like you say, a bit heavier and bulky but mine is always in my small backpack along with several other survival items. My only gripes with it are the tweezers that seem more gimic than practical, the fish de scaler, the pliers work with limited use and the magnifying glass is not much cop. However the saw is super sharp and the file works well, the sissors are sharp and the screwdrivers are are solid. Haven't got round to buying the leather case to go on my belt yet. Would be nice to be able to buy a multi tool where you can choose what you want it to have on it, or buy attachments you can swap over yourself.

    Personally, out of your knives I would also choose the Compact. However I find the Compact's combo tool to be too compromised, especially on phillips and with light prying. I have many SAKs, but usually edc a Climber or Ranger. I think of the Climber as a more capable Compact, and the Ranger is like my smaller edc version of a Swisschamp. I wear all my SAKs on a pocket dangle clip.

    Compact is a winner. You can use the bottle opener as a can opener known as a combi tool. Use it as a flat head and Philips although not particularly good for s Phillips. If only they would get rid of the bottle opener and replace it a Phillips that end opens it would be perfect.

    And with all our pathetic knife laws, knife crime remains the same because people use kitchen knives in knife crimes NOT pocket/collectors knives. If they really want to know the answer to knife crime- give big sentences to those who commit it. Instead of blanket banning every knife they can think of.

      @gavinmiller690 2 года назад

      Be polite, show them the ledgislation. Under 3 inches, non locking is fine under Section 139a Criminal Justice Act. However it is still an offence if the intention is self defense or to attack someone and would count as an offensive weapon. Just let them open it, close it and allow them to measure the blade with the pocket book.
      The best UK legal pocket knife is the Hennie Hynes Spyderco UKPK in S30V steel, G10 scales and brass washers. The other more expensive alternative is the Hinderer XM Slippy.

    I wouldn't regard any of these except for the Swisschamp - which let's be honest you'd need a belt pouch to comfortably carry - as a standalone EDC. Rather from this selection I'd go for the Dime plus either the Pioneer or one of the Spydies as the blade on the Dime is really small and insufficient on it's own. As it happens I have a Squirt PS4 and a Nextool Mini Flagship, both of which have pliers and scissors, and carry these either with a blade-only folder such as the Manly Wasp or Bokerplus Atlas, or with a SAK with a saw and reamer (which both those little multitools lack) such as Farmer or Hiker. If I'm carrying a bag I'll put in a larger UK friendly multitool - either SOG Microtoolclip which is just pliers, medium blade, opener and screwdrivers plus a mediocre file and carry my Climber which has scissors, or a Classic SD for scissors and a folder - or my Gerber MP600 plus a folder or SAK with saw but without scissors.
    However I may well splash out on a new combination, the Leatherman Bond in conjunction with a Farmer X (as Vic surpass LM on scissors and saws imo) which will set me back £100 but better than a similarly priced LM or Swisstool which I couldn't legally carry, that will set me up for just about anything and be more robust as a whole.

    The Compact is Overrated, Overpriced & Under Tooled. Its cheaper to buy a Camper or if can buy Huntsman at a discount & buy Plus scales for them . The 91mm Camper is the best 3 tool layered plastic scaled Urban users EDC knife & the 91mm Huntsman the best 4 tool layered Urban & Countryside combined EDC knife . If you want to spend a little more buy their Alox equivalents - the 3 layer Pioneer X or the 4 layer Farmer X . The Swiss Champ is is an impractical pocket carry unless you want a hernia & even at home it is too large to hold in the hand & its far better & less costly to use a combination of 4 & 5 layered SAKS to cover practical home repair needs - try the Cyber Tool M in combination with the Ranger , or the Deluxe Tinker & the Ranger and a 84 mm Watch opener.

    • @peterculkin811
      @peterculkin811 8 месяцев назад +1

      Some interesting observations. I too, don't get the hype over the compact. As you say, the climber is cheaper and offers a little more.
      The only thing I like about the compact, is the narrow diamond file included on the back edge of the parcel hook. I think Victorinox should make this the standard for all knives with the hook.
      Regarding your thoughts on the Cyber M and the Ranger, I have owned and EDCed a Cyber M for over 20 years.
      I wished that it had the saw and file from the Ranger/Swiss champ etc, so I bought a Ranger, with the intention of dismantling it, removing saw, file and associated back tools, chisel and flat blade and adding them to my Cyber M, not realising that such a knife already exists, as the Cyber L.
      So I went ahead with my modifications and my version of the Cyber L has the bit driver as centered as possible, which I feel is much better than the standard Cyber L.
      The Ranger, now denuded of it's saw and file, has become a Climber, which I appreciate on it's own merits, hence my belief that it's a better EDC than the overhyped Compact.
      What I don't get, is why so many people have a problem EDCing the larger knives, such as the Swiss champ or my Cyber L for example.
      I carry the Cyber L everywhere, usually in my 5th pocket and don't even notice it. I do have quite big hands though.
      I also keep a Leatherman bond in my car and a Victorinox Mini Champ on my keyring.
      I don't usually carry the climber and I also have a Leatherman Squirt PS4 that I don't usually carry.
      Nice that there are so many choices and modding SAKs is not as scary as you think once you set your mind to it.
