There is something so addicting about the generative randomness paired with excellent sounds. I feel like I could easily just listen to the Crum Drum forever. Thank u!
I am absolutely fascinated by this thing 🙂 terrified about my abilities to build it, but I need this in my life 😀 the sounds in the demo are wonderful and would fit in my newest musical project in such a magical way, thanks! (Looking into the build instructions and hoping I could do it). Thanks for this!
Thank you! It is a pretty simple build for anyone who as a bit of soldering experience. Perheps you know someone who owns a soldering iron that could help you! ;)
I’m in the same boat. I have zero soldering experience and a 1 month old, so not much time to build anything. Is there anyway we could buy one pre soldered? Like the Korg nts-1 build?
Would be great to get a video on syncing the crum drum to different devices (Kastle Dum, sq 1, etc). I'm having trouble getting it to sync to the Kastle Drum.
Hey Albert, I built it and it's really cool! Really great with a bit of swing and short randomised sounds. One more request, would it be possible to edit the MIDI out note numbers and channels, I guess this would mean editing the teensy sketch
Wonderful! Definitely picking up a few for me and my mates here in the US. Btw is that noise floor high on the box or from the signal chain you ran during recording?
Happy to hear that! :) A lot of the noise comes from recording artifacts and the fact that I powered the Crum Drum via my laptop. If you use a better power supply, some of the noise would dissapear!
Thank you! I can't say exactly when it will restock, but if you go to Thonk you can sign up on the waiting list and be notified when it's back in stock! :)
I can’t get it synced with Retrokits R006. Anyone here who knows what signal I have to configure?

i built this right now for my friend (he isnt friend of solder) and its fucking COOL !!! its like dfam on steroids ... Good job Albert!!! i wanted to ask , is there any chance this will go opensource sometimes? or it is possible to buy only teensy? iam not that rich guy as my friend is so i need basically only teensy with code, perfboard and my soldering skills :)
Oh wow so exciting to see your machine is available! Sorry to repeat what others have asked, but do you think you would ever consider a built version, or nominate suitable builders? My soldering is not up to this, even though I know you already said to others that it is really simple! Thanks
If it sells well enough it might be available as a built version, but that could be a while. If you know/can contact anyone with soldering experience, it shouldn't take more than an hour to build!
You can change between octaves, minor pentatonic & major scale by changing the 'type' switch. Then you can change the melody using the 'rand' knob; more randomness means more varied melody/pitch!
@@kieranharvey348 Yes, you set the root note with the 'Freq' knob and then you introduce higher notes by turning the 'rand' knob. If you go to Thonk you can find the user manual, wich goes into more detail!
Are you planning a snapshots/recall feature for the future ? or maybe it's impossible to store datas on the Crum Drum... Also, can the effects be routed on individual instruments ?
Unfortunately, I won't be able to add those features due to the physical limitations of the button and knob layout. The effects are global and can't be applied individually!
@@AlbertNystrom ok i understand, but let says it might be possible to do some sort of combos like: pressing play or beat button a certain amount of time (or both together), then you enter the 'store mode' and could use the 4 leds to choose saving/loading 4 presets. @@zutflux9648 Yeah, that could work! I'll think about it, and maybe implement it in the future! Hope you'll enjoy it if you buy it :) (it's nearly out of stock though, and it might be a little while before there are more in stock)

Ouch I've been waiting for it since your demo of the first version but this came while I was on holiday and it's already sold out, please please please restock it 😅
@@AlbertNystrom I ordered it as soon as the second batch was available, it's a great instrument, I really love the randomized beats which don't follow the usual patterns, and the layout of the controls is very clever, congrats and thanks for all the fun it's going to provide, you can easily spend some good time just playing with it!
OK - sounds/looks really fun/amazing (actually)... However... Gotta ask: What's up with that 'hum'/tone in the background?? Grounding loop issue? Otherwise, lovin' the demo. Cheers.
I am loving my crumdrum, but I'm having an issue. If I have sync-in connected, it won't sync-out (drumbrute is the source, freaq-fm is the next device in the chain). Is this expected behavior? Is there a workaround?
You will be able to buy them assembled on Thonk and escape from noise in a little while! But for now Theres a small supply of assembled units on The Lobster music store on Reverb!
This is very cool. I really love how you preserved simultaneous access to all drums from the prototype while still adding more parameters per drum. Are you planning on releasing/distributing future firmwares for this? If so, is there any chance future firmwares would include MIDI control over the individual drum parameters?
