    Just looked up the WADA requirements, and it's not that they have to report each hour of the day, they have to report one 60min interval where they'll be available for testing. I was like, how can you have any freedom if you have to report every hour of your day?? But knowing where you'll be for a single hour a day is much more reasonable lol

    Initially, I was gonna say "decent vid", but I really do appreciate your compassion for Kenyan athletes at the end; hella respect from me for that. It's actually a very similar point I made on a Trackstaa Instagram post when people were harping on the road 10k women's times that occurred recently. It seems to stem from a mix of parasocial connections to other athletes (primarily from western countries) and intentional/unintentional xenophobia that convinces the general public that it's only certain countries who take gear, when in reality, everyone's on the sauce and that East Africans are well... just the better athletes in the end on average. Just about every major track media company has connections to pro athletes too, so when they try to give nuanced opinions about a topic they clearly know very little about while simultaneously defending pros who are on the same levels as the "cheaters", it's such a jarring conflict of interest that I wish didn't exist so prevalently, and prevents these important discussions from being less biased in the end.
    Fwiw, it's only cheating morally if you're trying to take *more* drugs than your competition. Microdosing interestingly enough kinda levels the playing field since everyone has to stay within their biological markers in the end. Not to mention the dosages athletes are taking compared to what athletes were pre-WADA are much safer nowadays (ofc I would want no drugs in pro sports, but *shrug*) Obviously, it'll never be perfect, but I do think in the end that the better and more talented athlete wins in the end 99.9% of the time (excluding the Salazar era maybe lmfao).
    I'll stop here while I can, but neat little vid essay overall.

      Yh I saw I real interesting documentary about the reasons many Kenyan athletes dope and wanted to include it. Feel it’s often seen as simply “if you dope then you are selfish and immoral” when it’s not that black and white. Glad you enjoyed this video - I watched you Salazar and kiprop documentaries recently so it’s pretty cool you enjoyed these!

    • @RANDOMZBOSSMAN1
      @RANDOMZBOSSMAN1 8 месяцев назад +3

      Yup that’s the main difference now and pre 1989 you have to fill out your whereabouts everyday and have biological markers/passport attached to your name and random testing which *could* happen
      All 3 things are enough to limit how much PEDs someone might wanna play with compared to the free for all era where women were given so much PEDs their voice got deeper than some men
      Is it system perfect of course not but does it make PEDs more regulated and use less than they can be for sure

    • @RunnerBoi
      @RunnerBoi 8 месяцев назад +4

      I think there's a bit of self-awareness regarding microdosing from organizations like USADA/WADA too, because it's not like there's been any drastic overhauls in testing methods since then. Although, I will concede that the current system allows athletes to be "target-tested" much easier, e.g. testing athletes multiple times within a short time frame for really no reason at all other than to likely bust them with something lol. Asbel Kiprop's case really opened my eyes to that concept in particular.
      I've seen arguments against having PED's legal at all, as while it theoretically levels the playing field more, I do think it would unfortunately revert to far less healthy practices (and arguably some deaths), even if more research can be done on PED's to make them "safer" to use. No PED's are safe in elite sports conceptually speaking, and reverting back to a culture of blasting gear instead of microdosing it would see some pretty ugly, but I guess also fascinating effects on performances on the current generation of athletics.@@RANDOMZBOSSMAN1

    • @Afroman183
      @Afroman183 8 месяцев назад +1

      Thought I would chime in a counter point that though people say it peds legal probably would lead to more deaths I don't belive so as athletes aren't encouraged to take drugs like the clear from the balco scandal and designer drugs which god knows the effects and dangers. People will always do thing for sport and to think you are going to able to have any international and a livelihood with sports without drugs is close to impossible. Only issue is pursuing sport to a high level in youths becomes less attractive as its not healthy or good to have kids know this but tbh sports at a high level is rarely the healthy thing but is the challenge and pushing yourself that counts its just different for pros like in any thing especially in demanding physically based sports.

      Interesting thing about biomarkers as did you know that genetics from different areas even regions respond differently Asians can take 4 x the amount of testosterone than you but the epi test ratio and key biomarker for further testing can give no indication and show negative while on peds which is interesting. So then it makes it unfair now you can get athletes abusing body's hormonal and genetic responses to look clean while being on alot more drugs than everyone else. I love sports but honestly I wish testing was better it isn't hopefully th3 technology advances soon but otherwise I think free limits

    There are 3 reasons athletes takes PED's MONEY, FAME AND BEING THE BEST AT WHAT YOU HAVE SACRIFICED YOUR LIFE FOR, I have 2 friends that were in the Olympics and both were on something because so was everyone else, the real reason they test all these people, it's big business and the testing agencies test cause its all about MONEY! as my daddy used to say always follow the money

    • @AdamJansen786
      @AdamJansen786  8 месяцев назад +1

      I agree and disagree. Definitely agree many (even most) athletes dope for more success and to be the best at the sport they have dedicated their life to and the idea that "everyone does it" helps keep athletes conscious in check. I think the way you have described it oversimplifies the fact that many athletes dope to save themselves from poverty. its not that they love money and attention, its that doping could retire their family and give their kids an education which are much more noble motivations than "I love money".

      Indeed! The testing agencies are corrupt as well. Many athletes have ‘donated’ to such agencies over the years to maintain a good relationship with the agencies. Words from a professional sprinter himself. They dont hesitate to approach guys and make a deal 🤝
      If PED’s really got cleaned out entirely, no current world record would ever be touched ever again; not even close. The currently top times would also never be touched.

    Good video but I have to say when it comes to “who’s the better runner” you can’t really just look at the best time of each person and know for a fact who’s the better runner. It’s a safer bet than going by a statistic in a ball sport but times alone doesn’t show the full story. Technology has improved so much that saying that a runner like say Galen Rupp today is better than a guy like Steve Prefontaine from the 70s we can never know for sure because they had much different technology. Even today things like weather conditions, the inclusion of pacers or how good the pacers are, how competitive the race is, etc. that all affect a runners time. I mean Josh Kerr and Jakob ingebritzen are in a fight right now to prove whos the better runner, so we can’t know for sure who is truly better by just looking at the times.

    • @AdamJansen786
      @AdamJansen786  8 месяцев назад +1

      I think you make a good point here. I suppose my counter would be that whilst someone more knowledgable in running knows about the effects and evolution of different track surfaces, shoes and training science, the casual fan does not know about that. They will view it as more black and white that x time is faster than y time so Rupp is faster than Steve which puts that same pressure I was talking about to be faster. Although Inge righten and Kerr are in a “rivalry”, the faster runner is probably Jakob, josh just had a good race and a better kick on the day. So basically I’d say you are right that it’s not as simple as I made it out to be, but the casual fan would likely see it as being that simple if that makes sense?

    • @magnusrylander
      @magnusrylander 8 месяцев назад +1

    I am compassionate for kenyans being dirt poor, but in the same time I'm compassionate for the runner who does it clean and gets beaten by a cheater. As a poor runner on drugs you don't discriminate by beating only 1st world country runners who can afford losing because they can live well without winning podiums, you beat whoever is in the race with you, rich or poor. So no, it's not ok to cheat. You cheat also poor runners like yourself, you don't deprive only the rich runners from their winnings. And even the rich runner sacrificed his whole life probably to be in this spot, so you're gonna disrespect his efforts being on gear. Find a way to make a living in this life that is not done on the expense of others.

      Very few. Most sprinters compete in countries that test too often and honestly to be able to get away with it. Between the out of competition tests and in competition tests there just isn’t enough room to get away with it. The only country with a very obvious problem is Jamaica and to a lesser extent Italy. Jamaica has had seven runners make leaps in performance that can only come with PED use but not one of them has been busted. They all were based in Jamaica. No Jamaican athletes training outside of Jamaica have been able to replicate what the islanders have done. And they all have run for just two coaches. There is obviously severe corruption in Jamaica that is preventing some athletes from ever be busted. They are able to dope with impunity on the island. If they go down the event will be cleaned up tremendously.

It just isnt, it isnt fair by its very nature, its about genetic freaks and geography of where you are from and how that impact the modifications found in your body by adaptations. Did michael phelps dope? Maybe but not anymore than other swimmers But was it fair? No that man was a genetic freak basically designed for swimming and even if everyone trained to same amount, doped the same amount, he would still smoek them because his proportions and genetic gifts are freaky. East africans live in conditions that are MADE for middle to long distance runners to excel. Why is this not mentioned?
