Wow, this coaster is a lot longer than I was expecting
I was thinking the same thing. It's a pretty long ride.
Been on it!
Me and my wife road this never again
Fairly advanced for a 1929 ride! Better than some modern woodies!
Just wait till you hear about the defunct Airplane coaster that opened at the same park the year prior and was sadly demolished in the 60's
Nah. The restraints ruin it.
My first big coaster! I remember fearing the dragons mouth as a kid. Thank you for this pov 🙏🏼
Me too!!
This holds its speed well for a 94 years old, 1000+m long woodie!
Underrated classic. I'd give it a solid 7.5/10. It does have a few decent airtime spots, and its very rerideable. It always surprised me that Rye Playland was not more popular, given that it's roughly an hour north of NYC. If you're in the area it's worth a trip up there, the Dragon Coaster is the standout ride but Ye Olde Mill is also a classic (even if kind of cheesy lol), and the park has nice architecture/landscaping. I don't live in the NYC metro area anymore but when I did, I'd prefer to go there over local parks like Coney Island or Adventureland.
That layout is LEGIT. Wow!
This brought back so many childhood memories from riding this as a kid!!! My family used to go all the time in the summer, haven't been here in years since we started going to SF for more thrills as we got older... I'll have to go back and experience this again now as an adult enthusiast. Such a classic.
Park is almost as old as cony island and had originally two wooden coasters - the dragon and the aeroplane coaster, of which the aeroplane coaster was demolished back in the 70s after a period of neglect
Airplane coaster looked totally insane. Would love to see a modern take on that layout
@@RochD2 definitely, especially a RMCd variant would be awesome
This was my first big coaster when I was a child and will always be in my rankings because of that.
That is a crazy fast lift hill.
Probably faster than LRod now I guess 🤣
The only thing I think about when people mention this coaster is when Mariah Carey ridden it in her Fantasy Music Video 😂
Johnny Depp nearly lost his head on it. They shot an episode of 21 Jump Street on the Dragon were Johnny Depp's character was strapped to the track. I didn't see the "Do Not Stand" sign on the crossbeam. Did they paint over it after the guy lost his head in the mid-80's?
Back in 1998, when I was at an age to truly be impressed by this park, it was my first coaster ride. Sadly it's probably the best ride at this uniquely government-owned park. Do you think Six Flags should buy and expand it?
That was my first wooden coaster as a kid. Rode it again circa 2016-17 or so and it was still very smooth for an old woodie!
Underrated coaster.
Damn thats the quietest chain lift ever😂 Especially for a woodie
Funny fact, at rye playland, i stood up on the moving horse carousel and said "I FEEL ALIVE!" then the girl infront of me was chuckling and said i got caught, i started looking around and the staff members said "do that again and you wont be welcome to rye playland" i still remember it😂
Edit: also as a person who went to rye playland, the catch a wave ride drops your stomach sooooo much
I’ve always been impressed with the length of that ride.
This looks fantastic! Deceptively long and the layout is great. The dragon head tunnel is a bonus. :) (Adds coaster to Bucket List)
That rhythmic sound is awesome
OMG MY HOME PARK
Did you see him?
Mine too 914 residents unite! 😂 💪
@@maxhagenauer24 Nah I havent been to playland in like 2 years
That's actually a really interesting layout.
My very first Coaster Coaster!!! ..outside the kiddie 😂
I never knew this thing looked so fun I don’t even live that far away now I’m gonna go check it out. Thanks. I wonder how that back row. POV would be, actual airtime or not?
This looks fun.
The Dragon Coaster is definitely a classic. It is one of only 3 Prior & Church designed roller coasters still operating. The other 2 are in California. 1 in the Los Angeles area and the other in the San Diego area. None of these coasters operate their original trains. They all have Morgan fiberglass trains. There has perhaps been some thought of replicating the original wooden trains for the Dragon Coaster. At this time, nothing has come of it.
One of the very few County owned parks remaining and was up till two years ago County operated as well until they brought in a scam of an operator - standard amusements - and lost a number of popular and well loved rides
I can say firmly that standard amusements take care of the park very nicely, they’ve added new rides in place of old ones and they are trying to restore the park to its glory days by refurbishing buildings and entrances.
Impressive runtime after the lift hill. It's longer than many modern coasters today.
Great coaster ... dire park ...
Hi Taylor 😊 Thanks for doing a POV of my first credit
Been on this!
I’m going there tomorrow
Airtime looks crazy
I always wonderws what a coaster would look like if they sanded stained and varnished it. Probably would be georgous.
This needs a modern clone ..love the double put and back layout
The Alex Forrest coaster
Random question for you guys. What is the strongest airtime you have experienced on an inverted coaster.
I think this was the rollercoaster Mariah rode in her 1995 Fantasy music video
Anybody have any footage of the old old ye mill before they renovated it?
This coaster is forceless but it’s smooth and a lot of fun
My first park… 2003.
This is the roller coaster Mariah Carey rode on in the music video for her #1 hit "Fantasy".
Yep, I immediately think of that video when I see this coaster… which is probably an indication that I’m officially middle-aged, lol. 😄
@@Mechum22 Well, Mariah is middle-aged herself now.
This coaster looks scarier than iron gwazi, and ka. I might be skipping this one.
Kept on expecting to hear rollercoaster tycoon screams on the drops for some reason.
Does it offer airtime or is it just forceless hills?
On a hot summer day I’ve gotten decent airtime on the drops - nothing crazy but enough for it to be a genuinely fun ride.
Why have they been hiding this ridiculously old, fun-looking and rather speedy wooden coaster that seems to go off in all kinds of unexpected directions? Oh...and a dragon eats you half way through.
World’s roughest coaster, Super Flight, now gone from this park. 😢
good riddance I say. Went on it years ago with my cousin and we both got headaches
@@BigNate5404 Somehow I came off uninjured but I couldn’t stop laughing at how ludicrously rough it was. The other two North American Volares are not even close - in fact, the Coney Island one is fine.
I rode it in 2017. I was expecting a trainwreck, but it IMO was relatively smooth
@@overbanked Wow. My current coaster count is 839, and for me Super Flight was the roughest of them all.
Playland is not as it use to be !insane the Price to enter the Park. I recall You walked in the Park an Paid for the rides tickets separtely ! Suppose u do not want to go on rides an just walk around an Play the games You can not! And If Your not From rhe Area is 80.00 to enter insane prices !
