I'm a camera operator and work with many clients who livestream, and I absolutely love seeing these behind the scenes stream gear videos. Awesome idea for a video!
Neat! I enjoyed seeing you do a tech review. My only critique is that it would be helpful if you added a summary at the end detailing what you felt each piece did best at (with visuals if possible, even if it's just some bare-bones notes on each). But, maybe I just think this because it seemed this was comparing the different devices and I got a little lost. Nice job!
Good idea!
@@impulseSV2 Linus from LTT actually said summary talking points are bad because it gives your viewers an option to end the video early, hurting whatever metric might be important, just a thought id pass along. I'm sure there is a cool way to do it.
@@ryanfisher582 that is true if your a review channel such as LTT and GN. But as someone just posting one here and there it can actually boost your matrix since you’ll pick up a bunch of one off viewers looking for the comparison between them. But seriously depends on which matrix your looking for. Basic click views, time watched, or even subscribers. All have different ways to approach things.
I literally have no idea about anything you said but truly is a fascinating insight to what tools of the trade is required. Love your videos Impulse, keep up the good work 👍🏻💜
Have never and will never stream but I'm still here wanting to listen to you talk about stuff you care about and are hype about
More complicated but let’s be honest… you love it!! 😬😬😬
Really like this kind of content, would love to see more behind the scenes/techy reviews!
You do realize there are a sleuth of free add-ons for elgato that may do what you need. additionally the elgato + automatically links all mics, All MICS, to the wave software which also give you the option to use vsts. There is talk of future add-ons for the plus that wasn’t available at launch.
Love the hardware videos!
Appreciate the content my friend. Have to call foul. The task was to replace your goxlr not add yet another box to your desk :P. Again, appreciate the content :).
5:52 why am I not surprised lmao. While I love the Etho shoutout, I was kinda hoping you’d play Tango’s cheater soundclip haha
i'd love to take that goxlr off your hands lol...great video
I like the wave xlr but I absolutely hate how I have to press the knob in to change what volume im changing, just doesnt seem optimal when needing to change audio quickly
your outro should be 'tech it easy'
you could repalce the GoXLR with the WaveXLR and save some space 😅
Sounds a bit like Desk clutter, but cool if you unlocked new abilities. :)
just get a bigger desk and run all of them elgato isn't a audio company by trade tc helicon is. Plus just by changing the mic settings slightly in the settings of the GoXLR you could easily sound better than the "end of the video" voice. I have a mv7 and mine sounds better than yours through the goxlr. Maybe change some settings. In my opinion buying 2 devices to come close to one is not even feasible. GoXLR is superior until TC Helicon make an upgraded version. Also GoXLR has inter-graded Stream Deck support so whats the problem?
Honestly, the passion you have for this stuff shows when you talk about it. I would love to see this style video from you more often!
Set it and forget it until Windows updates and changes everything. 🤣 So the Wave XLR is working well with the Shure SM7B, that's good to know. I'm looking into upgrading from USB mics to an actual XLR one and since the GoXLR isn't Mac compatible I've been unsure what to even consider. Now you just need an Elgato sponsorship so I can buy it through a link.
irl impulse tech review seems fun. im still actually waiting for a room/studio tour and maybe more videos like this with your set up.
The Go XLR has it’s own drive to store samples, and it’s routed though the direct monitoring so there’s no latancy, same with the mic. Almost all audio interfaces outside the go XLR don’t have that. I do see you’re using Reaper to EQ your mic, so you can use a sampler within Reaper, but you need to keep you’re buffer (block) size as low as you PC can handle (62 sample would feel almost instant). It’s Defo getting complicated so you should just consider keeping the Go XLR as it’s does what you need. Mic quality being better on the other hand is your call. Is that gain in quality worth the effort of setting up a virtual cable to reaper etc. hard call.
I understood some of those words.
@@alexbennie in simple words, if the mic quality of the new audio interface is miles better than the Go XLR, then he does have the options to use a sampler plug in within Reaper (the program he issued to filter and EQ his mic) as he’s already got that software installed. There will be loads of you tube video about reapers samplers and you’d route that via a virtual cable into his streaming software. Because the pc processes the audio and not the hardware from the go XLR, the sample rate and buffer size effects the latency so he need to set that low. I don’t think I made that more simple to be fair 😂
@@BlindDigital lol
The GO XLR does NOT store samples on the device, they are store in user\Documents\Go XLR\Samples
I got the Wave XLR, the latency was too high imo for monitoring even though all reviews say it's not a problem.
That's why the wave xlr doesn't do for me what it's supposed to do
You sound a bit more boxy with the new microphone. a little EQ fixes it
Meant as constructive criticism: Your framing of this shot is off. You can either raise your seat so your are better in frame, or lower your camera. If you lower your camera, the background won't be framed as well as it is in the shot, but that's okay because you are the focus, not the stuff in the background
I think the stuff in the background is cool to help inform the viewer (a non-HC viewer) to see what Impulse is all about, especially the 1M play button as they might be more likely to check out the main channel.
I do agree that the framing is off. Perhaps if Impulse were to do standing reviews?
I don’t like the black curtain cutting off the length of the back wall though. I wonder if it’s possible to create a false door with the wall tiles?
Awesome video! Extremely insightful! Question - When implementing the Wave XLR, do you still need to use a Cloudlifter (or similar)? To echo on many others' comments, this type of 'behind the scenes' technical video with some product reviews are absolutely priceless, so keep 'em up!
You don't need the Cloudlifter since the Wave XLR can deliver 75db of gain which is enough to power the Shure SM7B which is a power hungry mic. I do however have a preamp I use (ART Tube MP/C) that I use mainly for the warm tone it gives my voice with this mic. I am using gain from that now but I also tested with no gain on the preamp and only from the Wave XLR and it did pretty well. Still might not hurt to include a Cloudlifter in your chain if you have one just so you aren't pushing your Wave XLR to it's upper limits.
Honestly I'd love to have a really in depth explanation on how you do things. How you route your audio cables, what software and hardware you use, and how it all gets executed. I look to your streams and videos and strive to have the same quality, because I know how passionate you are. Nothing but the best for impy dimple dop
I've been wondering what deciding factors go into the choice between these devices, and it's so interesting to see them used in tandem. Very cool!
A report on what happens when Windows updates would probably be helpful … is it better or worse than the GoXLR?
To me, your voice sounded full and resonant at the start of the video. At the end your voice lost some bass register and overall sounded “fuzzy” … kinda like low key static fuzz … interference from somewhere? 🤷♀️ Idk….that’s how it sounded to me….I can hear dog whistles and light bulb filaments too 😂 weird….but maybe helpful weird?
#question : which is better for your charity stream? Can you play “Bird day you yo?”
You and your equipment is always interesting.
Because you are invested and want to use the features, but also because you have people you regularly talk to that use these things professionally as well. That makes you a source of good information. Anyway, if you make more of these videos, I'll watch them.
I would love more tech content from you, streaming related tech and tech in general! As someone who finds all this a bit overwhelming, I found your video very approachable.
Listen, if you don't want your goxlr, I'll take it :D
I have SD and wavelink... after I set it up and I loan into a game.. the game audio disappears... im looking seriously at goxlr.
Somebody needs to make a good mixer with a voice sampler like the goxlr! There's a gap in the market coming
GoXLR 2 😊
1) Wave XLR + StreamDeck+ = NO MONITOR DELAY.
2) Sound FX + StreamDeck+ = Discord Sound alerts
I was so glad to finally sell my GOXLR, and just use the MUCH CHEAPER combo of WAVE XLR & SD+
Love the setup - god forbid you ever get a Windows update again though that messes the configuration up!
Really glad that can see this tech side of you, Impulse. Awesome video, really entertaining. 👍
Love it when you do product reviews. I follow you a lot and your tech journey has been fun. You're technically not a tech reviewer but your opinions are valid and tremendously valuable to some of us.
Another very enjoyable video. I can't say that I understood half of it.....but your enthusiasm and knowledge made for great content. I might have picked up a thing or two....🙂.
Really great to see these honest reviews that can maybe help out others to make a tough decision a bit easier. Nice work. Would definitely want to see more of these.
Hey @ImpulseSV2! Do you still use the streamdeck+ instead of the goxlr? What are your thoughts after these
View months?
Goxlr vs StreamDeck+ with wave xlr.
A lot of your complaints would be solved with the wave XLR. You need an XLR interface regardless, so... Yeah.
My goxlr mini died on me this past weekend. Not sure what happened but none of the audio routes work anymore except for optical in. So I went with the wave XLR and man do I miss my goxlr. Granted I have sub mixes now which is really nice, but I really miss the ease of use of the goxlr especially the live monitoring WITH EQ included.
Did I just miss the part where it says that the Stream Deck + alone can't replace the GoXLR? 🤔 (Not English, so it really could be)
I have both but will and still prefer the GoXLR
I'm not an audiophile, and I'm not listening with headphones, but your voice pretty much sounds equally good before and after. There's a bit of hissing that's gone later in the video but not really meaningful.
Sadly I don't have my good speakers anymore (the power board of my Z906 blew up and the Z607 I got as a temporary replacement are rather crappy in comparison).
did you try the Beacn Mix Create... replaced my GoXLR with it. The other option is using virtual cables.
But.. the new streamdeck doesn't have phisical inputs.. so how could it replace the GoXLR
Yes please to the streaming/recording set up videos, I really like the idea of being able to stream/record myself painting and drawing both traditionally and digitally but I don't know where to start in terms of a beginners, basic setup in terms of programmes to use. I try searching for videos and get confused with all the jargon people use as understandably they are techie people catering to other techie people. Of course if anyone here knows of any videos that are already out there that already cater to the 'idiots guide' market then please hit me up but I would still love an Impy version.
Happened across this video through recommendeds due to watching some other hermits and I couldn't help but notice- Is that a GMMK Pro with EPBT Black Gold? I like seeing some bleedover of custom keebs into other interests of mine so I can't help but point it out when I saw the quick glance of it!
I love my GoXLR… although I don’t like how it cuts out audio sometimes in some games. I’m not to sure how to fix it even after uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and replacing cables and headset. 😖
Always love your videos! BUT, it feels like the video and the sound doesn't really link correctly in this video if you are in view... might be something to be fixed?
Thanks for this, this was a setup I was considering throwing together. I’ll have to see if you’ve posted an update on what you think after using it for a while.
Do I need to install the wave link software with this stream deck. I had to trash my wave 3 as the software was causing tons of pc crash issues . I would like this stream deck to control my obs audio tho using a dial
so 5 days since you posted this, how are you enjoying it so far with the wave xlr?
My goxlr broke and im tempted to get a wave xlr with a stream deck + to replace it.
Ehhh think ill stick to using my PA-Desk much more simpler and easier to use everything has its own channel!
absolutely LOVED this video!! I think you did sound better in the second half of the video
This video is exactly what I needed. I have been struggling to manage my sounds for my content. This video answers some of my questions.
i use my stream deck original 15 button to route sounds through my wave 3 with wavelink in discord. its pretty easy. i watched a youtube video about it.
i liked the video, but i wish the video title was more like 'reviewing the [device] and [device] vs the goxlr.i almost didn't click this because the click baity title sounded like a giant sponsored ad.
Can the stream deck+ split audio? I am allergic to virtual cable and i'm checking either this one out or a go xlr. :D
you should look at the roland bridge cast as a goxlr alternative think you'd be happily surprised by it
It’s not almost impossible to talk with monitor delay. IT IS impossible.
I saw this device on Senpai Gaming and it looked phenomenal for podcasting.
There’s no shot that this thing will replace the GOxLR. Great video tho! 🙌
He said he's using a Sm7b, but I thought that mic was so quiet you have to talk right into it, how is that is not shown in the take ?
you should check out soundpad for playing sound clips ... buy it from them and not steam if you do i guess you can only us it with steam games if you buy it there
So bottom line is, that you still need the GoXLR go with the stream deck to have what the GoXLR can do alone?
While I don't know anything about this stuff, it was still interesting to see how it worked for you.
I enjoyed the view into the background of what it means to stream.
great video cant wait to get a stream deck + also if you set your mic in discord to the stream mix output on wave link then you can play sounds through discord that's how i do it
Hey impulse, did you stick with the solution at the end of your video?
100%, Warmth in your voice on the new audio processor is very nice! It's a great upgrade! Definitely going to miss the video and audio samples if you can't figure that out though!
Your affiliate links are pointing the the wrong things.
Would love to see a full studio tour next of all your gear/equipment and how you use it all. Maybe something to consider for a upcoming video, I know you’ve said you will eventually on stream once you are happy with your setup so hopefully soon.
have you tried this to route SFX to mic?
ruclips.net/video/4TXvVqpMHqc/видео.html
loveing the tech stuff, great video. just got the Stream Deck +, love it to bits so glad i got it :)
You should check out Beacn Mix Create & Mic.
That is so cool!where did you learn all that stuff impulse?
Ironically, your audio is slightly off in this video.
Wondering if you see the beginning of this video out of lip sync...
I would love to see a video about your PC build and other things like that!
As a long time viewer I've heard you talk about wanting to do this tech-stuff a lot and I'm really happy to see you went for it! Great video, thanks!
Great video! I love tech review stuff and you do a great job at explaining the whys and whats. Peace :)
They just need to add some extra output options so you can route audio in and out without it needing to be added directly to the mix before it goes to obs.
i hope Ludwig sends you his Swipe+ Bidet to review as well :D
Love it Impulse ❤❤❤. At the end of the video sounds really good in my earbuds.
Great video brother! I dig the informative content!
So if you have an xlr mic. Then dont get it. Lol
More of thesee kinda vids pleasee, i love it :D
I love seeing behind the scenes tech stuff.
Would love to see more vids like this! You have such a passion for this stuff and it shows. Having an honest opinion from someone who actually uses the product is invaluable. Keep it up!!
I love how sassy impulse looks in the thumbnail lol
Excellent information thanks
Are you able to do a 2 pc setup without the goxlr?
So basically it’s a speech jammer
I liked this video. more tech videos would be welcomed!
Would love more series like this, and tutorials on your streaming and tech usage for inspiration for personal use
Love the video. Would watch more of those
Do all the settings hold through a reboot? 😜
the golxr is GIANT
you can use voicemod soundboard
