Why do you have to use a distributor? That’s so frustrating. I just want to upload my music, I shouldn’t have to go through all the distribution stuff. Why can’t I just upload a song and boom it’s there. Also, you should be able to make an artist account without letting some company do it. This seems so wrong. Great video I’m not complaining about that, I’m just saying there’s no reason for Spotify to make it so difficult
The distributor doesn’t have has much control as a record label and tbh, I’d rather choose that over being signed. Trust me, DistroKid isn’t bad and they usually do a good job at responding to any questions and also creating the profile for you. It’s also not Spotify doing this, it’s the industry in general.

I used about 2 distributors so I don't know how the other 5 profiles where created some with songs I collaborated on and others my singles. Hey man, yeah it would be more beneficial to sign up and upload the song to the distributor first and they will create the Spotify artist profile for you and then you can just claim it.

No. Once the distributor creates the account for you, then you will have to claim your account. I have more videos on my channel explaining how to do so.

The name you want on your profile.
Keep in mind though that if you have NEVER released any music through Spotify before, you need to first sign up for a distributor like DistroKid and then they will create the artist profile for you and then you need to claim it after you release your FIRST song through your distributor.

What are the pros and cons to connecting your existing personal account vs creating a new spotify account for your artist account?
Honestly, it’s just preference and whether or not you want to use your personal account or create another. It really doesn’t affect your artist account, just your login.

Can you upload a song through distributor for someone else too? For ex. i wrote a song for an artist and i want to upload it because of all the rights as a songwriter. And will the artist be able to manage Spotify for artists alone? Great info on the channel!
Yes you can, but it will have to be under your profile and I would just make sure that you give the proper name for the other artist when uploading it as well. That artist will need to have their own artist profile though so you can reference their name properly. Just make sure on the “credits” section that you say that you own 100% of the profits. Do you know how long it takes to show up? I used dk and created my account a day ago. I can't find it when I search for my artist name. My artist name has a letter with a special character, maybe that's why?

Say if your first release is being uploaded by a record label and not a distributor is it best for the label to upload your track first and then claim your profile? Or should you create your profile first and then claim?
That depends on your contract and what you and label have worked out. If they are taking part of your publishing or distribution, then they would naturally take care of that but if you didn’t work that part out with your label then you would do both.

Because I been wanting to upload music on there and I hate the stupid websites that make you to earn money I don’t want any money or have to make a pay pal account to do anything can you tell me some of them that are completely free and are simple?
If you want your music on the mainstreaming platforms like Apple Music, Spotify & Amazon music then UnitedMasters & RouteNote are the best free ones, but if you only want your music on just 1 platform then you can always just upload your music to SoundCloud or RUclips but do keep in mind that those are not distributors.

It doesn’t have to be, you can create a new one but just keep in mind that you have to claim your artist profile on either one.

Record your own song through Spotify?? As an artist, yes you can upload a recorded song of your own and then people will be able to see it and hear it. But you have to create a song first with equipment, and then go through a distributor.

Correct. IF this is the first song you have ever uploaded to your distributor (CDBaby) then they will create the profile for you and then after that you can see your profile and claim it.

Yes, that is correct IF this is the first song you’ve ever released through a distributor.

Because that’s how these platforms work. Back in the day, a distributor was only with a label or many artists didn’t have access to a distributor. Now, these distributors make it possible for artists to distribute their music on these mainstreaming platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, tidal, etc.

Yes. That is correct. Why don’t you want to use any of those services? They are distributors and you need to use those to release any kind of music on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, etc.

@@MakeUpEgypt1 it’s not a distributor, that’s the only bad thing. Neither is RUclips but you are free to upload your music on those platforms so people can listen on there. Unfortunately, with the mainstreaming platforms we have to go through distributors to release them since we are not major labels.

@@brokenpaws Send a message to their support team so they can merge your music into one profile. Also, I would suggest switching to DistroKid for your music distribution because it’s a lot more efficient and easier for artists man.

No, because releasing a podcast episode would require a different type of profile that music distribution platforms don’t provide when creating a profile for an artist.

what makes an artist come up first on spotify ? for example - what do you do if you have the same name as another aritst? 🙏💕
If you have the same name as someone else on Spotify, it may cause your music to show up under that other person’s profile after you release a song, so plz be careful and like i always recommend to artists; make sure your name is unique enough to stand out so that it is easy for fans to find you AND so that your music doesn’t get jumbled up into someone else’s profile.

@@taltul88 With certain platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc. that’s not really how it works. It’ll just blend the 2 profile’s together in most cases so that is why I recommend you adding something to your name or spelling it differently so that this problem doesn’t occur.

Theirs is a very famous artist with the name Nunu but there are sooooo many others.

Yes, you can add a link to your website to your Spotify artist profile by adding it to your artist bio. Did you try the following?
1. Open Spotify for Artists
2. Go to Profile
3. Scroll down to the text field under Artist Bio

1. Do you try claiming your artist profile on Spotify yet for your new user account?
2. You would need to change your username on the user account to something else and your artist account to just your artist name. Did you try this yet as well?
@@JaceyFlames I've tried the first one, but since my artist account was linked with my previous id, so now I can't get the access from my new id. I tried to list my new id as a team member too, but for that also I need to have my previous account to grant the access.. :(

@@mansibhardwaj25 I would contact Spotify support so that they can revive your old account. They should be able to do that since your artist account is linked to that account. No, you can use a different one as well. You don’t have to use your personal account for your artist account.

Thanks for the video, but I still don't understand. I have a few tracks out on Labels and a spotify account seems to have been automatically created. However I have no access to this account? Please help some its so stressful and confusing...
Well, you would have to access from to connect your personal profile to that Spotify for artists account with your songs that are already released, but if you want to release those songs on your own without the label (you would Need permission from them of course) then you would need to sign up to a distributor to upload your songs and the distributor would release them onto Spotify. After that, then you would just claim your new profile.

I’ve uploaded a song on DistroKid and you’ve said it would create my Spotify artist account since it does that, how do I find my account?
The day of or sometime so the day after it will create the account for you & as soon as you look for it, it should come up & then you claim it. Watch the video I have on how to claim it after your song comes out.
