    Text: Joseph Mohr, translated by John Freeman Young
    Music: Franz Gruber, arranged by Dan Forrest
    Silent night! Holy night!
    All is calm, all is bright
    Round yon virgin mother and child;
    Holy infant so tender and mild,
    Sleep in heav’nly peace
    Sleep in heavenly peace.
    Silent night, Holy night,
    Son of God, love’s pure light,
    Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
    With the dawn of redeeming grace,
    Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
    Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
    Silent night, holy night,
    Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
    Silent night, holy night,
    Wondrous star, lend thy light;
    With the angels let us sing,
    “Alleluia” to our King,
    “Christ the Savior is born!”
    “Christ the Savior is born!”

    Our small ward choir is singing this beautiful arrangement this Christmas with piano and one violin. Every time I listen to this performance the splendor of the event combined with the mastery of Dan Forrest makes me weep with reverence and joy and my heart swells, I think, to twice it's normal size. I'm so grateful this much beauty is here on the earth.

      agreed. you did mean the soprano line, didn't you? couldn't pick our the altos specifically,

      @@maxc3470there’s nothing wrong with appreciating one voice part from the others. As a soprano, we almost always get the melody. The altos have very soothing and earthly harmonies in a lot of the songs which are interesting to pick apart and listen to
      Edit: same with tenors and basses, all voice parts are important in order to create something beautiful like this

      Song was written by Austrian Franz Gruber, primary school teacher, church musician and organist. The organ in a nearby church was out of order. Gruber was asked to set the poem to music for
      2 voices and guitar. He wrote it the afternoon of Christmas Eve. A beautiful masterpiece in my humble opinion.

    We did this yesterday at Northminster Pres. in the Cincinnati Northern Hills suburbs, with full orchestra incl. harp and organ, for our annual Lessons & Carols service. So simple, yet so powerful, moving and emotional, especially on the forte section toward the end. Suggests an other-worldly power behind the silence. Ethereal at the very beginning and again at the very end. I was a mess after we were seated at the end of this, as were several others I noticed.
