The first 3 months are tough as the tretinoin purge is a real bitch but it is so worth it. I recommend checking the tretinoin subreddit on reddit, they put together an in-depth document that has all the info you need.
Have you tried differin yet? Tretinoin I was using didn’t help me bc it has pore clogging ingredients to make up for being drying. But I switched to differin & saw results within the first week. Even tho that’s not supposed to be possible...
@Anya Louise It works differently for different people. You might not be able to handle it but some others could. Don’t tell people to never try it because tretinoin has helped a lot for many people
Would love a video about Laser, such as Fraxel. Dealing with Hyperpigmentation and Melasma and nothing really helps although being very strict on treatments and SPF :-(
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a scar specific video. I have struggled with severe adult cystic acne for probably about 10 years. The only thing I have found that works is laser treatments. i finally finished a year long “treatment” (if you will) that was a mix of IPL to help tame everything and then micro needling with PRP. But I don’t know if what I’m doing is right. It just seems to be right… now..? I have done laser resurfacing to help with scars but basically… my face is a mess. ANY help is appreciated. I’m so glad I found your channel. I look forward to your videos. Thank you.
This is so helpful cassandra, I am currently having a hard time with a flore up of cystic acne, my face was fine 2 days ago and now is terrible i have like 5 big red acne spots and they hurt so bad :( Thank u so much for what you do ❤️
I'm on Tazorac and it's been an absolute miracle for my skin. Thankfully it's been tolerable for me as well and I've had minimal irritation, but I did build up from adapalene to tretinoin to now tazorac. it's been the only acne medication that has completely reduced my cystic breakouts. I'm in love with it!

My favorite soap was SAL3, it was salicylic acid & sulfur. Ive had skin issues since I was a preteen, not so much white heads, but black heads. sal3 was the only thing that ever helped me fully eradicate them from my skin. Then idk what happened but the brand disappeared... thankfully, by that time I also found niacinamide ❤️
i love this! i currently have really bad hormonal acne that i can’t figure out how to get rid of. i’ve been researching & from all the videos i’ve watched so far this is the one with the best explanation.
I have rosacea and hormonal Acne. I can't look in the mirror without crying. I no longer leave my house unless I have to. I'm so scared of people looking at me that I don't even have the courage to go to the dermatologist anymore. Which definitely isn't helping, I know. This channel gives me so much hope and strength to keep pushing and not lose hope. That my live doesn't have to be over just because I don't have "perfect" skin. That I'm still beautiful and worthy of love. Thank you for making these videos. You seriously have probably saved a life.
Some derms aren't great. I encourage you to seek another. Rosacea is a medical skin condition and i know it can get to intolerable extremes. It is covered by insurance and they can get it under control. Please dont give up, theres hope and help❤❤❤
I suffer from dermatillomania, so I touch my face frequently which just leads me to more acne and more scarring. I really appreciate this video and would love to learn more about treating scarring.

Recently (3 years ago) I found out that I have an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism) that's called Graves' disease. Since theroid hormones affect many body systems and I usually have cysts (not many) on my face, I think this is another reason that causes acne. But I cannot be sure if I don't visit a dermatologist. I'm just supposing that this is the cause and I wonder why not people (that know) are not mention this as an important factor of hormonal acne. p.s. I really admire you girl!
Some things that helped my hormonal breakouts.... Knours one perfect youth cream... Some by mi aha bha pha killz spot treatment... Sunday Riley Saturn sulfer spot treatment (for the tiny bumps left behind)... Cosrx bha liquid used used 1-2x wk... First aid beauty aha radiance pads used 1x wk ... Retinol from Cosrx, nuetrogena, beauty by joseon ... Last is shisheido ultamune serum it's expensive but works for me used a.m every other day
Hi Cassandra! Can you cover Spironolactone alone? The possible side effects? Positives and negatives. Nothing really works for me and I'm about to give up with my acne battle and use Accutane :(( I'd like to try this one first before I go to the Accutane path.
Not her but, spironolactone has saved me. It took about 4 months to start working but now I rarely ever break out!! It is my holy grail for my hormonal acne

As a POC who gets hyperpigmentation the ordinary alpha arbutin did nothing for me! I reccomend their azelaic acid though it's so good for treating acne, inflammation, and hyperpigmentation
I've been getting these really painful cysts that are deep underneath the skin and leaves awful scars every time my period comes, and I don't know what to do about it :( I'm going to try the ordinary products and the Paulas Choice BHA, but should I use the BHA every day or just around the time when my skin flares up?
i think first try it every 2 days or so, don't skip spf and see how well your skin tolerates it. for people who consistently need to keep things under control on their whole face or a large part of it, it could be more beneficial to use it every night or every other night, whereas for someone who has only flares-up at certain areas or few spots here and there, or for someone who does not tolerate bha's well, using it as a spot treatment only when there is a problem without irritating the clear areas of the face could be wiser. and please don't buy several actives at once, try one for a few weeks and then if it doesn't work change it, or add another one for another problem, etc. just adding this because you said i'll try the ordinary and the paula's bha. I think only buying one of them at a time will save you money and you'll be sure what works and what doesn't for you. finally, if you think it really is related to your period coming, common actives may not work (or not in the long term) and the best bet is seeing a derm before irritating your skin with random stuff, bc hormonal acne is usually treated with prescription actives, like Spironolactone, which works wonders for hormonal acne sufferers. sorry if I over-explained myself and if you already know these, I just wanna make sure I'm clear because I burned my skin several times when I followed "use this!" kind of brief advice from people.
I get those too! The scars take months to go away :( I use to get a lot on my jawline, but now I get maybe two. I started using jojoba oil and tea tree oil at night. For my entire face i cleanse it with micellar water, and use Ordinary niacinamide, after that dries I put jojoba oil on my entire face, and use tea tree oil on the big cysts by the morning its not as big .. doesnt go away completely over night but it makes a difference. I dont even have to pop them anymore because i know within two days it'll go away.
I had clear skin most of my life but after having my 2nd child (daughter) I started breaking out around my mouth and it started to spread to my cheeks. I tried a lot of products and the dermatologist gave me different treatments but nothing worked until I used MURAD. This saved me and all my skin cleared after using it and it never came back. I love Murad and recommend this to all my friends including my children.
I'm ultra oily and I have blackheads everywhere, my entire face, my neck, chest, shoulders (used to have terrible body acne in my teens too, so covered in scars as well). The only time my skin was smooth and blackheads free was when I went to vacations and I spent a week in a super chlorinated pool and salty ocean, it dried me out so bad but I was mirror smooth. Most product over the counter is just not strong enough to clear my pores. Like Paula's choice? it's just water for me, it did absolutely nothing. But you know what? Now that I'm 33, I meet a lot of my friends with drier skin and I can tell my oily mess of a face keeps the wrinkles at bay so I'm ok with that.
I love that you do this! Thank you so much for everything! It's so awesome to have someone out here, talking about the not so beautiful part of skin care. I use curology now, I've been using it for about 6 months or so and my skin has never looked better! As long as i follow my routine and not get lazy and skip a wash, my face stays so clear and I've seen a difference in my blackheads and hyperpigmentation!
Paulas Choice has a 4% SA toner w/antioxidants and a 9% SA serum(mostly use as a spot tx for the really rude ones because its a lil pricey) and I LOVE them both. Recommend!! ❤
I’m gonna be extra and just type out my current skin routine in the hope that you’ll see my comment and you can tell me if you approve or not (or other people can help me if you want to hehe) 😂 I’m a teen with normal-dry blemish prone skin (not really bad enough to call it acne but I break out A LOT and they’re so stubborn) Morning: CeraVe salicylic acid cleanser, the ordinary hyaluronic acid + niacinamide and zinc, CeraVe moisturiser, sun cream. Evening: CeraVe cream to foam cleanser, the ordinary glycolic acid toner, hyaluronic acid, CeraVe moisturiser, the ordinary squalane. Every 2-ish weeks I use the ordinary’s chemical peel (but I don’t use the glycolic acid toner the day before/of/after the peel so avoid over exfoliating) I’m debating adding the inkey list’s succinic acid spot treatment to my routine but idk where I would put it in my routine if I did/if I should get it or not 😂
Is inflamed white heads the same as white small bumps underneath the skin? I have both. Some just stay under my skin, making my skin appear a bit uneven and sometimes they break out. It’s not a massive problem for me, but it is really annoying that they keep coming back. Would something like beta hydroxy acid work for those?
I was reading the white bumps under the skin are trapped keratin(so like trapped protein and its called Milia) and washing, exfoliator, not using heavy creams will help. I have the same issue and always wondered!
Could be closed comedones aka clogged or congested pores… I had like ten of those, & they turn into these huge inflamed angry under the skin pimples when I try to squeeze them out, so I stopped trying to remove them. I believe certain acids can get them out, but I’m still trying the aha/bha peel to see if it can get them out. I read online that it might be necessary to see a professional to remove/extract them manually. You might also want to try to identify any products that you’re using that could be contributing to clogging your pores as well.

Proactiv got rid of my acne but also around the same time when i was 26 i found out those round plaques i had in my hands were roundworm (caught from stray cats probably as a kid. Yeah, i probably had that for 15 years. Neglectful parents never did anything.) I was prescribed Lamasil (Terbinafine) for 3 months, a powerful antifungal. My skin cleared up perfectly and i never got bad acne again after that.
Could you consider covering loose skin after weight loss? I want to use products that will help support healthy elasticity to minimize it and help it bounce back from the trauma that stretching caused.
Yes please share some more about micro needling and laser!😊 I’m curious if any of these are helpful for scars and skin thinning after being prescribed prednisone!
*Just sharing some of my knowledge* BHA options include Salicylic Acid (SA), Betaine Salicylate (BS), Lipohydroxy Acid (LHA). The reason “regular” salicylic acid is commonly referred to as the _”only BHA used in skincare”_ is because BS is pretty exclusive to EastAsian skincare and not typically used in western countries. LHA was developed by L'Oreal which owns the patent on the ingredient so a very limited number of products contain this BHA.
I have scars on my face from OCD self harming. I don't know if there is a lot of info out there on how to get rid of these scars or if it is the same process as for acne scars. Would love a video on that kind of thing. I have trouble finding resources because I know there are different scar types
I have had hormonal acne for over 3 decades. After patiently trying just about everything available, I tried wild yam. After 2 months all cystic acne cleared and stayed that way. May I also add that I use Superdrug's salicylic acid cleanser in the mornings too. I feel it keeps the blackheads at bay. I bought 500mg tablets from Amazon. Nothing too expensive. Just checked out reviews and followed my nose. I take one a day on regular days but two tablets a few days before my period. Once period starts I go back to taking one in the mornings. Give it around 2 cycles for it to work. I sincerely hope this helps at least one person...
I struggle with whiteheads only basically but only by cheeks and it has scarred a bit and pigmented and gotten red but it only started like September of last year and I don't get it I was perfectly fine maybe a pimple or 2 ever like 3 weeks I wouldn't even have a routine or anything but I see pictures from on my snap from a year ago and it just gets to me sometimes because I don't know what I could be doing wrong but I will start using a benzoyl wash instead so thank you for the recommendations :)
Just a question as I can’t find the answer anywhere: “I have Rosacea, and contemplating on getting laser treatment for it, BUT I have face tattoos that I don’t won’t to ruin. Will the laser also go deep enough to push the ink further down?” I have had micro needling back in 2017, but that was before I got my tattoos (2019-2020). I’m also thinking of getting a facial hair remover, but that’s also a laser, so same question…? Since it kills the hair sack/follicle, will it go deep enough to ruin the ink/tattoo?!
i’m pretty sure any kind of laser would mess up your tattoos even if it doesn’t remove them completely :( even at home hair removal devices like IPL guns can do it and my derm also told me not to get laser hair removal over tattoos
Thank you! I have been wanting to try out Paula's Choice for such a long time but didn't want to chance it because of the price. But I'm so glad that you've approved it! 😁 hoping it works for me!

The first 3 months are tough as the tretinoin purge is a real bitch but it is so worth it. I recommend checking the tretinoin subreddit on reddit, they put together an in-depth document that has all the info you need.
@@slailklc632 thankyou so much for sharing :)
Have you tried differin yet? Tretinoin I was using didn’t help me bc it has pore clogging ingredients to make up for being drying. But I switched to differin & saw results within the first week. Even tho that’s not supposed to be possible...
Birth control helped me a lot
@Anya Louise It works differently for different people. You might not be able to handle it but some others could. Don’t tell people to never try it because tretinoin has helped a lot for many people
Cassandra's looking so BE-YOU-TIFUL 😍🦋
Would love a video about Laser, such as Fraxel. Dealing with Hyperpigmentation and Melasma and nothing really helps although being very strict on treatments and SPF :-(
Check Dr. Anil Rajani. He has videos on fraxel. Dr Davin Lim has some though they're probably older than a year.
Watch Dr Yusra IG stories
skincare youtube helped me get rid of my acne more than a dermatologist did when i was a teennager so shout out to all of yall for that
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a scar specific video. Thank you.
This is so helpful cassandra, I am currently having a hard time with a flore up of cystic acne, my face was fine 2 days ago and now is terrible i have like 5 big red acne spots and they hurt so bad :(
Thank u so much for what you do ❤️
I'm on Tazorac and it's been an absolute miracle for my skin. Thankfully it's been tolerable for me as well and I've had minimal irritation, but I did build up from adapalene to tretinoin to now tazorac. it's been the only acne medication that has completely reduced my cystic breakouts. I'm in love with it!
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. I used to have hormonal acne and blackheads during all of my high-school years. Now I’m still battling with those nasty blackheads and I recently bought many of the products you name here from inkeylist. I’m hoping in a month or two my skin will look better 🙏 but it feels good knowing that you approve of these products ❤️ Sending you lots of love!
Hii sister , had you get rid of blackheads now ?? Plz suggest I have too many nasty blackheads on my nose .
Spiro changed my life, I wish I had found it a decade ago. It also saved me from my oily skin.
But you have to take it forever then, if you stop the oiliness returns. Problem is we cant have that forever, it´s not good for your body.
Girl. You are the reason my two year acne fiasco has stopped .
Diet
Sleep along with skincare helps a lot
Just discovered your channel but already learnt so much *.* benzoyl peroxide was god sent for me, cleared my skin 99% but after 4 months of use i developed an allergic reaction to it so i had to drop it :'( also i must have lived under a rock but never heard from retinoids in acne treatment, thanks for the enlightening informations :)
How many times a week did you use Benzoyl peroxide ?
@@1VanesaHernandez for 2 months everyday at night (as the instructions advised it) and after my skin got better i used it 2-3 times a week for prevention. But everyone's skin tolarance is different, my friend never had an issue with it. It is good to be careful and alert to your skin's reactions, and change things if needed.
MAby because u kept using it every night unnecessarily remember to add hydrating products cause that’s what my problem was but I’m fine now and still use bp
Thank hu Cassandra! You’ve become my go-to skin care sista for a long time and I just really appreciate you 🙏🏻 you think about low income and high income people. And you make everything about skincare make sense!! I’ve struggled with fungal “acne” hormonal acne and hyperpigmentation since I was 12 and now I’m 21 :( I’m going to try these out soon. Thank you!!
This was great, thank you! I would also LOVE to hear your take on microneedling , I am looking to try it in the future to reduce the appearance of my acne scars. Thanks so much!
I was just diagnosed with PCOS and I have acne on my neck and I didn’t understand why I couldn’t get rid of it! Thank you so much 🥺
Edit: I just read an article that there are new studies that Spironolacton works well for teenagers but not adults. Do you know how valide that is and if yes if there is an alternative ? Thank you!
I have a friend who’s 35 and has cleared her acne completely on spiro. Obviously that’s just one anecdote, but maybe useful info ✏️
read up on DIM (and Calcium-DG). curbs high estrogen. some gyns recommend it luckily, others just throw bcp at your for PCOS. (ALA in extremely low doses could be good, depending on what causes high estrogen.)
@@bomsnose estrogen is a big one to pay attention to when trying to heal hormonal acne. thanks for mentioning it.
@@eleiaaa it's quite hard to find an endocrinologist (or dermatologist or gyn) to takes this seriously, and not just throw irrelevant drugs at you, so... good luck!!

For my acne problems, I always use Monsia products, which dry and clear them up without leaving blemishes on the skin 😚
I'm all in on treating acne scars, so I can't wait for your next video!
Your so worthy and beautiful, hoping all the best for u xx
Thank you for sharing with us this information you didn't have when you needed. This speaks volumes
I suffer from dermatillomania, so I touch my face frequently which just leads me to more acne and more scarring. I really appreciate this video and would love to learn more about treating scarring.
YES to lasers and procedures for acne scars, hyperpigmentation and such. Thanks for another great vid Cassandra! Love from London, UK xx
I like that you're talking fast
omg you are the best educatorrrrrrr everrrrrrrrrrrr about skincare and acne, i frickinn love you cass 🦋 i always wanted to try PTR sulfur mask and dermalogica fizz mask since they got your approval i HAVE TO try them nowwwwww
Last is shisheido ultamune serum it's expensive but works for me used a.m every other day
Im a dermatologist, and i have miracle acne cream on my profile. 🙂
thank you. you really don't know how much you help us.
Hi Cassandra! Can you cover Spironolactone alone? The possible side effects? Positives and negatives. Nothing really works for me and I'm about to give up with my acne battle and use Accutane :(( I'd like to try this one first before I go to the Accutane path.
Susan Yara had Dr. Sam Ellis on her channel a few weeks ago - they did an entire video solely on Spironolactone! Dr. Dray also has a video on it.
Not her but, spironolactone has saved me. It took about 4 months to start working but now I rarely ever break out!! It is my holy grail for my hormonal acne
she already did that
@@KaiiiYuh how long have you been taking it now, I'm six weeks in
@@mykahwilliyumz about 6 months now :)
Id love a video about minimizing pores
This was a great video! I liked how you explained the science behind it. I would love a video about the acne scar treatments, I currently have active acne and acne scars, and I'm considering to have microneedling done once my acne has calmed down.
I just wanted to say, ive literally been binge watching your videos learning about my skin the right way and aeeing your journey. I balled my eyes out watching you react to your own video from 10 years ago and the way your insecurities reflected on your physical behavior and speach. I couldnt relate more. Thank you so much for everything your doing. Found out every product i was using was just making it worse. I pitched everything toxic and am omw to find a product that will help without damaging my natural barriers. 🕉🙏 thank you❤
As a POC who gets hyperpigmentation the ordinary alpha arbutin did nothing for me! I reccomend their azelaic acid though it's so good for treating acne, inflammation, and hyperpigmentation
thank you so much !! this video helped me a lot!! i came to know what the real problem was!!
To me tea tree has helped a lot for my breakouts
Please do a video on acne scar treatment!! I would love that. Thank you for the great video !!!
The scars take months to go away :(
I use to get a lot on my jawline, but now I get maybe two.
Thank you so much I keep discovering thanks to you. Fighting against acne can be over welming but your teachings have helped me understand skin care.
Ketoconosole for fungal acne... it works a lot better. Completely clear skin now.
This is so helpful for me and my teens. Your timing is perfect
Recommend!! ❤
Always magnificently in-depth as always, Cassandra. 💕
I’m gonna be extra and just type out my current skin routine in the hope that you’ll see my comment and you can tell me if you approve or not (or other people can help me if you want to hehe) 😂 I’m a teen with normal-dry blemish prone skin (not really bad enough to call it acne but I break out A LOT and they’re so stubborn)
Morning: CeraVe salicylic acid cleanser, the ordinary hyaluronic acid + niacinamide and zinc, CeraVe moisturiser, sun cream.
Evening: CeraVe cream to foam cleanser, the ordinary glycolic acid toner, hyaluronic acid, CeraVe moisturiser, the ordinary squalane.
Every 2-ish weeks I use the ordinary’s chemical peel (but I don’t use the glycolic acid toner the day before/of/after the peel so avoid over exfoliating)
I’m debating adding the inkey list’s succinic acid spot treatment to my routine but idk where I would put it in my routine if I did/if I should get it or not 😂
Is inflamed white heads the same as white small bumps underneath the skin? I have both. Some just stay under my skin, making my skin appear a bit uneven and sometimes they break out. It’s not a massive problem for me, but it is really annoying that they keep coming back. Would something like beta hydroxy acid work for those?
Yesss I get these too! For me, glycolic acid and niacinamide have been really helpful
Same here ! With hyper pigmentation these are my two concerns
I would really like to know your thoughts on Eucerin, especially for acne
Finally a science class thats interesting!! Where was this back in High School?

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of me using benzoyl peroxide and it was all thanks to this video that I learned all about them. I took photos of when I started and oh my Lord, the difference is just unreal. I am forever grateful to cassandra for introducing me this wonderful product. 💖💖💖💖💖
Hello...What do you use please?
@@DorcasBONGHE Terminator10 from AcneFree. Once a day, at night time after washing my face. I let it sit on the active zits and acne prone areas for 15mins before I apply my usual night time moisturizer. For day time, I use a salicylic acid face wash but for night time I use a gentle, for sensitive skin cleanser so it doesn't irritate my skin as Terminator10 can feel quite harsh and drying especially when you are using it for the first time.
Hi Cassandra, thank you for another great video!

Thank you for this video, I've been diagnosed with pcos 😭 so I definitely have hormonal acne
*Just sharing some of my knowledge*
BHA options include Salicylic Acid (SA), Betaine Salicylate (BS), Lipohydroxy Acid (LHA).
All I wanted to know in one video. THANK YOU🦋
I have scars on my face from OCD self harming. I don't know if there is a lot of info out there on how to get rid of these scars or if it is the same process as for acne scars. Would love a video on that kind of thing. I have trouble finding resources because I know there are different scar types
I would love to see some treatment options! And are the at home versions of these medical treatments worth it?
Thank you! I’d love a video on high frequency! Labor of love your channel is, I appreciate ya!

Thank you! I have learned so much from this video.
What is wild yam?
I struggle with whiteheads only basically but only by cheeks and it has scarred a bit and pigmented and gotten red but it only started like September of last year and I don't get it I was perfectly fine maybe a pimple or 2 ever like 3 weeks I wouldn't even have a routine or anything but I see pictures from on my snap from a year ago and it just gets to me sometimes because I don't know what I could be doing wrong but I will start using a benzoyl wash instead so thank you for the recommendations :)

Yes Cassandra well done 👍🏼
We would love you to make a video about actual skin treatments 🙏🏼
Please do a video on scar treatments like laser or micro needling. I had acne for over 10 years which left me with a lot of boxed and rolling scars.

Hi Cassandra, can I mix 5% Urea repair cream with peptides or niacinamide serum?
It should be fine. Urea at 5% is mainly a moisturizer.
