My dark skin ladies not all treatments work for our skin. We are not one size fits all not even between the same color skin because we are bio individuals. Hydroquinone once stop the spots will come back with a vengeance. Yes i used both products (listed in description haven't watched vid yet) and neither worked for me. Chinese skin. Am finding salicylic acid w aloe for healing seems to be fading a melasma patch. Plus an AHA toner at night. I discovered not washing face for one night (yes had makeup on !) Made it peel off much quicker.. ie dried it I think.

Interesting that I’ve been using Tretinoin 0.05 for six months on a regular basis, but this last week a retinal rash has developed and I’ve had some flaking. I just rewatched this video and your other on retinal rashes…thank you for providing succinct and informative videos that we can trust.

ive been using faded topicals for more than a year now. When i was running low and ready to purchase it again, I just realized that I don't need it anymore. It works!!! of course use your spf
While I agree with everything In this video. I was actually shocked to discover that lavender oil faded my hyperpigmentation QUICKLY. Within a few weeks it was gone!
That's crazy and interesting. Was it an 'essential' oil, or just a 'regular' (not essential)? I have hyperpigmentation too, and have been using a vitamin c serum off and on. Also, alpha Burtin? Or butrin? Its from the ordinary. Has been ok I guess. I can't really notice it too much, as I live in a very sunny place, so aside from me using sunscreen, I do get a lot of sun I feel, which might change the results of just using regular products that target that without any other factors
Olive green skin over here. I get hyperpigmentation BAD. I have tried a lot of products. I have not gone to a dermatologist, insurance would not pay for it. The number one product that WORKS for me is differin gel with adapolene!!! I am in my mid 40's and never had acne until I started the premenopause. Then 2 years of cystic acne, my face literally hurt. I cleared it up and tried and tried different products until differin gel with adapolene ❤. Pimple patches help me because ... Sometime I pick .
Thank you for this! I also really love how youre teaching us exactly how they work and whats best specifically for my skin as well as recommending some products on the way! Im so glad i found you!! Ive been struggling with hyperpigmentation lately
Ladies dint forget first n foremost you have to fix it internally .watch out if you stressed out or suffering from adrenal fatigue...nothing will help if uts not addressed or fixed internally .
I’ve tried everything. That Topicals Faded cream didn’t do anything for me….Didn’t even fade my hyperpigmentation a little bit. The combo that completely cleared my large hyperpigmentation on my cheeks is The Ordinary Lactic Acid, The Ordinary Salicylic acid, an AHA/BHA toner of any brand, and Tretinoin. I did this every night and morning, and my hyperpigmentation cleared in 4 months. Oh….and using sunscreen every single day
That's bc you had melasma. 🤦🏾♀️ Ppl aren't listening. She said certain ingredients that work for acne scarring /sun spots WON'T WORK on melasma. Glad you found what works for you but others here under your comment need to know that all hyperpigmentation isn't created equal and what worked for you may not work for them. However, if any of you DO have melasma, use the thinnest product first. Then let it dry completely before applying the tretinoin. Tretinoin drying you out? Sandwich it... I.e. Apply lotion first, let dry completely, then apply tretinoin, let dry. Then lastly apply another layer of lotion.
Thank you so much for talking about hypopigmentation. It seems like no one talks about it on any other channel. I have mild hypopigmentation from my eczema but because I'm so obsessed with taking very good care of my skin that most people cannot see it.
Great information, but you definitely spoke really fast and it was hard to keep up with the information. I can understand the need to want to get it all in under a certain time marker, but we need to be able to hear and process what you’re saying. Thanks, but I’ll have to continue to watch Dr Dray.
To be honest, I didn’t expect much from the subliminal affirmations on borlest, but my skin has improved so much. I’ve had fewer breakouts and it’s looking clearer every day. So happy I found this!"
No 1 thing I stay away is hydroquinone. According to dr. Karam a cosmetic surgeon on RUclips, he said using it too long , it can cause rebound. That just confirms why I don’t use that!
That's just misinformation. If you use something and stop using it without further preventative measures, obviously the same thing will happen again. Otherwise, there is no actual evidence of hydroquinone CAUSING a rebound.
I've struggled with breakouts forever and nothing seemed to work. I’ve been listening to the subliminal affirmations on borlest for a few weeks now, and I swear my skin has never looked this clear. I didn’t expect it to work, but it really did.
I have malasma on my upper lip (so I have a permant moustache), I have brown spots around my eye area. All came when I was pregnant with my son (but I also have pcos). I've been having chemical peels help speed up fading. When I get acne its purple and turns brown. After the peel my skin look tan. Before the peel I couldn't hide the discolouration under makeup, now makeup can cover it.
I love Agency! I have been using it for just over a year. Both the Future Formula and Dark Spot Formula. I get melasma on my cheeks and forehead and it has helped so much. I also use Timeless Skin Care’s 20% vitamin C + E Ferulic acid. Sunscreen is EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46.
Agency's dark spot formula worked great on a large sun spot on my cheek. It did nothing for melasma on my jawline. I was abandoned by one personal dermatologist assigned to my care and given another. Between the both of them they did not listen to my concerns and I felt they couldn't care less. I have since canceled my subscription with Agency because of this.
I have dark skin and what I learned today is that we prevent, treat and stop hyperpigmentation. I never thought of stopping the process and didn't realize some products or ingredients could do that. I know each of us is unique and products and ingredients bear different results but going forward I now know how to research and buy the items I need to resolve my skin problems. Besides Cassandra's product reviews, Dr Vanita Rattan's (UK-based) unsponsored RUclips page is my other go-to for the basics of dark skin care and her unsponsored INKY-list based review of products suitable for dark sin. There are a few other US-based dermatologists, but most are sponsored, as are many bloggers/influencers.
Amazes me that in the UK you can't seem to see a dermatologist without going through a doctor referral. I have skin issues and I have no idea what they are yet I can't see a dermatologist without paying £150 just for a consultation and having to go over 100 miles to London
Cassandra you are the GURU!!!! Why don't you create your OWN products to help us who love and agree with EVERYTHING you believe in!!!! I would LOVE an all in one product that has ALL these ingredients in one bottle!!!!! PLEASE create at least this one product and/or all in one acne/hyperpigmentation solution!!!! PLEASE!!!!
You did not mention Cyspera (cystamine) which many dermatologists are saying is the only thing that addresses hyperpigmentation. Have you tried this and did it not work for you?
Tried Cyspera and into my 2nd tube. Amazing result! The hyperpigmentation just turn skin tone but slightly different from your original colour… so if someone goes really near to u, like almost wanna kiss yr face they will see it.
In my experience really the only thing that permanently breaks up stubborn hyperpigmentation (and not just fading or brightening) are more invasive treatments like lasers, deep peels, microneedling, mesotherapy etc. You need to kill off the melanocytes that are producing the excess pigment (without eliciting a rebound response) and it's hard to do with just topicals, at least for me - I have dark skin. Excessive use of topicals sensitized my skin and made the pigmentation worse because of a rebound inflammatory response. What I've learned is that I must use products that have anti-inflammatory, anti-redness, soothing, etc. properties for any of these other ingredients to work.
I’ve heard microneedling can cause an inflammatory response but I read one of the benefits of microneedling is getting rid of hyperpigmentation. So I don’t know what to think .
@@user-es4ri5zu4k you’re saying microneedling with the miracle BR is ok even though it’s got Vitamin C? I read that you should not be using retinols and vitamin C right after microneedling but you’re saying it’s OK to do that ? Can you give me instructions on the proper way to microneedle with it ? I have the Dr Pen M8. Can I use a numbing cream beforehand ? Can I use HA afterwards? Please share protocol. And the Dos and Donts.
I'd love to know more about the skin structures and cells involved in dark spots.❤ My dermacologist said we need to treat deeper layers of the skin to treat my dark spots, so harsh peels would only work in the short term. She mentioned those cells that make melanine, but hadn't time to tell me much, just that sometimes they get so dammaged the creat something around them. 😮
It's true, I'm using tretinoin (Retin A) right now and it's amazing how my hyperpigmentation is going away. I've only been using it for 2 weeks now. I love this stuff!
I love Faded, but the smell… oh good grief it’s foul. I threw out half a tube after having waited three months to get it because it was sold out. I just can’t. Switched over to Peach Slices azelaic acid serum and Sephora C+E Ultra Glow Serum to replace it. So far so good.
thank you sm for this video. my mom struggles with hyperpigmentation and doesnt have as much knowledge and resources to really know what to get so this video was very educational
I use Agency tretinoin and hydroquinone. It really is effective. Both the Future Formula and Dark Spot formula are excellent. I cannot use any vitamin C with these because my skin becomes sensitive, and that is counterproductive to my skincare goals. I use EltaMD UV Physical Tinted sunscreen and found it has been very helpful in reducing my melasma.
Brands that cost a fortune...often work better than affordable ones. Unfortunately...most of us cannot afford to spend 100 dollars on a one month supply of pigmentation serum. I appreciate Cassandra showing less expensive options. I have mature damaged skin and need serious formulas that I can afford. I use a lot of products. I have also incorporated a couple of home remedies containing Tumeric which is long known to help with pigmentation. I also use the Ordinary Vit C cream and Azelaic Acid, which is affordable and helpful...but does not offer awe-inspiring results. If I was rich, I would have procedures and spend hundreds of dollars on beauty products that truly work. I am grateful for The Ordinary and DECIEM which both offer affordable options for those who are NOT wealthy. There are products that I also splurge on...but by "splurge" I'm referring to 50 bucks MAX for one product.
Regimen Lab’s Vitamin X and Level serum. I’m surprised those weren’t included considering they don’t have any problematic ingredients unlike faded serum
Not one thing ive tried has worked. Im not able to use retin A because im highly sensitive to vitamin A and my hair falls out with it. So idk what to do. Someone gave me a red light therapy panel but im reading that it can make hyperpigmentation worse and green light is better. So frustrating. I almost give up.
At 2:25, you say hypopigmentation when you meant to say hyperpigmentation. (I listened several times to be sure.) A text banner should correct it, but maybe you’re not allowed to edit vids once they’re posted, which would really suck. Anyway, thought you’d want to know.
Cassandra, I truly appreciate how much effort you put into your content, how you break information down and how caring and considered you are with your words 🫶🤍✨️ you're like a dose of the red pill for the fallacies of social media and the media industries in general 💥
Interesting. I've been treating my dark spots for a few years. My dermatologist first did an in office spray of the one dark spot in the middle of my cheek (missing a small part of it) and then prescribed Triluma which caused what I call "skin staining", where it darkened the additional spots I applied it to. So not only did it make my spots worse, it created more. When I returned to ask if I could get the part of the spot she missed with the nitro spray, she said no- she would rather I do "lasering". I didn't understand what that was, all she had told me was it could take several treatments to have affect. Without knowing how many treatments, and knowing each treatment was expensive, plus I traveled very frequently for work, so anything that requires me to return is challenging, I decided to just leave my face alone. It took over a year for some of the Triluma spots to fade. While working in California, some of my friends went to a nurse starting her own business and gave us a deal on an IPL session. I didn't notice any changes. My face was pink just after, but fine a few hours later. No change at all. Waste of money. I went back to Hawaii (which is where I got most of my sun damage) and visited a local that did a "freeze cream" on my spots. It immediately created dark scabs. She advised slathering them with honey for a few hours before bed which did help the scabs heal in a week and my face looked AMAZING... for a few weeks. Then the dark spots came back with vengeance. I did it again. Again they went away and then came back, this time it seemed to create more dark spots which stayed. I came back to the mainland and called my original dermatologists office who booked me for the "laser treatments" which I found out was IPL. After my first IPL at the derms office, I had the "cookie crumble" response, where tons of tiny dark scabs work their way to the surface and flake off. These helped remove some of the smaller new spots, but I didn't notice a big difference to the dark spots under my eyes and the upper sides of my cheeks. I did a second round of IPL with less cookie crumble response and not really any change. It's been a few months. I thought I'd try one more IPL round to see what it does and then just live with these inevitable liver spots in my 30s.
Licorice root extract is proven to help uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. Unfortunately there's no affordable product available so make I just mix SPF30 sunscreen with the liquid licorice extract. I also recommend gentle exfoliation with Boots own brand scrub
I had laser hair removal and it caused hyperpigmentation all over my bikini line. It’s been ongoing for months. Can anyone recommend anything? The clinic are being so hard to deal with

Topicals are a big no no for my hyperpigmentation that's almost all over my body
Thank you for sharing these amazing products. All the best in the New Year.
Good Mocules did not work for me but I did like the product. May try it again later as maintenance.
I'd love to know more about the skin structures and cells involved in dark spots.❤
My dermacologist said we need to treat deeper layers of the skin to treat my dark spots, so harsh peels would only work in the short term. She mentioned those cells that make melanine, but hadn't time to tell me much, just that sometimes they get so dammaged the creat something around them. 😮
My dermatologist said only tretinoin helps scars and hyperpigmentation....
It's true, I'm using tretinoin (Retin A) right now and it's amazing how my hyperpigmentation is going away.
I've only been using it for 2 weeks now. I love this stuff!
Where can I order it
@@vickie5394will retin A work for melasma?
Your hair looks so gorgeous curly!
You mentioned hypo pigmentation at the beginning, but I didn’t see any recommendations, what should I do as it’s under my lower lip, thank you.
pretty sure there's nothing over the counter u can do regarding hypo pigmentation.
I love Faded, but the smell… oh good grief it’s foul. I threw out half a tube after having waited three months to get it because it was sold out. I just can’t. Switched over to Peach Slices azelaic acid serum and Sephora C+E Ultra Glow Serum to replace it. So far so good.
This is an amazing video, Cassandra, thank you. All the info I need to know!!!
What about thiamidol? Would love to hear your thoughts
Hydroquinone is banned in Australia. Tretinoin is available by script as Retrieve.
Hello, great video! You didnt mention Vitamine E, does that mean you dont think its helpful?
thank you sm for this video. my mom struggles with hyperpigmentation and doesnt have as much knowledge and resources to really know what to get so this video was very educational
So Castor oil doesn’t have any usefulness?
For my acne problems, I always use Monsia products, which dry and clear them up without leaving blemishes on the skin 😎
I use Agency tretinoin and hydroquinone. It really is effective. Both the Future Formula and Dark Spot formula are excellent. I cannot use any vitamin C with these because my skin becomes sensitive, and that is counterproductive to my skincare goals. I use EltaMD UV Physical Tinted sunscreen and found it has been very helpful in reducing my melasma.
how to use it?
Now I know I have a mix of hyper and hypo pigmentation. What do I do knowing I have both issues on my face?
Regimen Lab’s Vitamin X and Level serum. I’m surprised those weren’t included considering they don’t have any problematic ingredients unlike faded serum
I’m 73, and my neck skin is really getting wrinkled and lax. Does anything work on this area?
Not one thing ive tried has worked. Im not able to use retin A because im highly sensitive to vitamin A and my hair falls out with it. So idk what to do. Someone gave me a red light therapy panel but im reading that it can make hyperpigmentation worse and green light is better. So frustrating. I almost give up.
At 2:25, you say hypopigmentation when you meant to say hyperpigmentation. (I listened several times to be sure.) A text banner should correct it, but maybe you’re not allowed to edit vids once they’re posted, which would really suck. Anyway, thought you’d want to know.
Hello beautiful! Tell me if using snail face cream is good to use daily? And its benefits? Please help
What about the vitamin c powder from the ordinary?
Wow this video is amazing Cassandra. I have super sensitive sling and didn’t know till know about the shadow that look like a mustache due to wax 😮
Please any product recommendations for after micro-needling recovery for dark undertones???

Loved agency! The dark spot treatment was awesome! 🙌🏽 Such great info in this vid!
What about berries radiance pigmentation solution?
The silver lining is that the car burglar is now going to have amazing complexion!
Licorice root extract is proven to help uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation.
Unfortunately there's no affordable product available so make I just mix SPF30 sunscreen with the liquid licorice extract.
I also recommend gentle exfoliation with Boots own brand scrub
How u used liquirice pls reply ,is it effective
I'm usually not a fan of hyperspeech (yes, I just made that up, lol), but you're good at what you do. (And I love the cheat sheet! Thank you!)
Is there a difference between Stieva-A and Retin-A? Not sure what's best to help with acne, anti-aging, and hyperpigmentation.
I think they are just different companies
I LOVE azelaic acid. I need to re up on my hg serum that you got me hooked on bb 🥔🖤
good for pigmentation?
@ absolutely does for me!
Thank you Cassandra but… o have questions, how can we use this products? How to mix them? Etc
Cassandra, JLo has a Vogue Video!! Haven't watched it yet, but I thought, in case you didn't know yet you'd probably want to know. Happy holidays!
I need something to control oil production on my face other than Niacinamide. I don’t have acne only hyperpigmentation but my skin is too oily.
Hi Cassandra, thanks so very for the info. Can you please provide contact information so that we can order products from the Agency. Thanks
I loved all the info. But as a beginner I don’t know where to start. Hyper pigmentation is my main problem.
I had laser hair removal and it caused hyperpigmentation all over my bikini line. It’s been ongoing for months. Can anyone recommend anything? The clinic are being so hard to deal with
