Thanks for the video......I was there that day with my Dad. We are both a good bit older now but we'll never forget seeing ole D.W. win in the Tide Ride. He won back to back 600's. We were at both. R.I.P. to the drivers, crew members and announcers we've lost since these days. Earnhardt, Kulwicki, Allison, Steve Byrne's, Barney Hall, Chris Economacki and many more.
I remember this race like yesterday. I was still so pissed about the week before when Rusty wrecked Waltrip in the Winston. I was in high school the year this race took place. I guess I got some revenge when DW won. I was a huge DW fan back than. This was a great day. I still love this sport so much today.
Stuff like the John Boy and Billy song are what made NASCAR excel! I remember that on our one local radio station and NASCAR was a normal part of life in small town Tennessee.
If the Winston Cup was pro wrestling, The Winston saw a double turn. Wallace went from being the face to the heel while Waltrip went from being the heel to the face.
I love these raw satellite feeds . Seems kinda wrong that Rusty was paid more for the All-Star race than DW got for winning what's arguably the 2nd most important race of the season. 161,000 tickets were sold for this race. 2nd only to Daytona (in '89). If this was an average race I'd understand but not the 600.
Also yes it's true,. Many fans didn't like Waltrip. The week before in the Winston when Rusty took him out, changed all that. They started to root for the older man instead of hating him. Ha. He became a fan favorite starting this race. Who would have ever thought that? Ha. I remember watching this at home and running around my house when he won. Good times. I love this sport.
Yup! He drove for Hendrick after his Sabates Pontiac was destroyed the week before in a wrecking during the Winston. Petty basically had to buy his was into the Daytona 500 that year.

My buddy Dave flew one of the Hang Gliders that launched from the back of the trucks on the track that day, and landed on the infield.
I was attending aswell this day!!
Look at those grandstands..never be like it was
170,000+...jeez. you got that right. Unless they change Nascar back to what it once was, they'll never see crowds like this.

Darrell Waltrip wins his 5th & final Coca-Cola 600. This win makes him eligible for the Winston Million at Darlington later in the year
Beautiful champ !!! Float like a butterfly sting like a bee. The Ali of Nascar. 🔧🔩⛽⏳💰🏁
D.W. was my man
"New Voice" Mike Joy
Not 100% sure, but I don't think Mike Joy did a lot of races in any capacity for any of the Turner networks
Wish they would have made a 1:64 diecast of the Tide Lumina.

I wonder Rusty Wallace got boo before the start of 600 miles after what happened at The Winston.

Wow! 16:57 and no caution!? Times have changed for sure...

2:01:00 - nice and colorful take on a Charlie Daniels' song.
Ha. imagine a race today where there is less than 5 five cars on the lead lap at the checkered flag. Lol. Twitter would shut down. Ha.
The fact that we even mention a social media platform about something like that says alot as to why Nepotismcar sucks donkey nards today...lol.
2:00:26
44:33 the most legendary name in sports history...and the thing us men try at all costs to avoid😂
Awesome man
anyone know where I can find races without the announcers? I feel it'd be great to sleep to, just hearing the engines around a superspeedway
13:25 race start
Holy crap John Boy and Billy before they were syndicated at 2:00:00

1:59:32 Kyle Petty is in a #42 Chevy Monte Carlo?

Chevy Luminas 1st victory... DWs Tide Machine Chevy
Always thought Darrell got out of his cars funny compared to other drivers.
Seems like a few drivers had that style of climbing out. Have also seen Dale Earnhardt get out that way on occasion.
Many racing reporters got better as they got older. Chris Economaki just got more cartoonish.
