Excellent job at 3:21 by Dr. Punch in showing his belief in Richard Petty. Never even flinched nor did his voice ever waver for over a minute. Just too bad he got so caught up in the moment that he couldn’t get it out.
This Bristol I grew up with as a kid! When the surroundings of "Thunder Valley" were very much part of the atmosphere! The 160k seat coliseum is obviously impressive but I'll still take 75k seats and some Eastern Tennessee personality....
I didn't start watching NASCAR until 1995, so it's cool to be able to see these older races that people post. I miss the suspension travel and the boxier cars of the "good 'ol days"
Man, old Bristol was a strange looking place. They must have spent a shit ton of money to dig all that open space out so they could build the full bowl around it. Crazy.
I thought something broke on my tv. Or you tube was under attack. YIPES. In reality i suspect it was the work of a Petty fan throwing something at tv 😭

Apparently the person recording race was a Petty fan throwing his beer at VCR

20 cautions for this race which broke the all-time record at the time
3:20-4:22 Jerry Punch.exe has stopped working
kept waiting for the beat of Mobys Praise You to hit
13:05 race start
1:56:06 *bonk*
Maybe that's what broke something in the steering that had the 3 back to the pits the next lap, and then again after that
lol Bristol has changed a lot since this race...
This is right before Bristol started to blow up. The attendance for this race is listed at 43k. 3 years later , 1992, it was around 75k.
Nowadaze, including the teenagers parents, its 5 k fannies in seats. Alot of excavating for nothing. Its PERFECT in 89’. Just jaw dropping
2:23:39 nice
SPOILER ALERT: Brett Bodine wrecks
Does he start his post crash interview with "it's a shame......"

another race where Rusty Wallace was down a lap and still ended up winning the race
Wtf was that opening
What a cool track. They should cover it in dirt
Bristol dirt makes me cringe.
