I laughed when you called putting the trousers together "a fairly basic process," and then proceeded to seam them together incorrectly, because I have done that more than once myself! I now make sure to label each fabric piece and follow the directions as carefully as I would if I had never sewn anything before. I find that pants are not the most intuitive things to put together. Yours came out beautifully!
I'm also *always* cold!! I would love to see a lookbook video where you style full layers and layers and layers and thermals top and bottom for all us women who get cold easily!
I make these all the time as my daughter is a painter and decorator, I put the buttons on the front instead of the back for easy access, I am currently on pair 20, I bulk sew it makes life easier, keep going x
Moving the strap buttons was the first alteration I made for mine, and then removing that chest pocket. On a bustier figure that little pocket draws attention- good if you want it, but definitely a choice.
I've made two pairs from denim as well as a skirted version using the top of this pattern and the skirt from another. That one is my favorite. I switched the buttons around to be on the front so it's easier to put on myself.
These turned out beautifully! I’m inspired to make something similar now. For the neckline I’d recommend using fusible interfacing on the facings. That can help prevent it from stretching out. I’ve also fixed gaping necklines after the fact by going in an hand-stitching a thin bit of twill tape to the inside, easing the neckline into the slighter shorter twill tape. That being said, your neckline looks totally wearable to me. Love your sewing content!❤
Really cute! I am now imagining the style in the deep purple velvet I saw a different style of overalls done in, within a catalogue that recently came in the mail. Or, a deep teal; because ,if I had my druthers, my life would be in a deep teal.
A pinafore has a skirt, this is dungarees or overalls with a bib (at least to me in British English). If you could find real wool fabric, they'd be even warmer ;).
I've had this pattern lying around for about a year now and this gave me the final push to use it for the first time with a pretty mustard yellow medium weight cotton ♥️
Aka Dungarees and Overalls. Pinafores here in Australia tend to refer to girls school dresses basically like an apron dress thats put over long sleeve shirt.
I totally understand your complaints and have had some of those same ones before with different garments. It’s a bit frustrating to get to the end of a project and not be completely satisfied, but I guess it’s one way to learn! Your project did turn out great! I’m scared of buttons and buttonholes, but you take them on like a pro! 👍🏻
Next time you sew the pattern, put the straps a smidge closer together on the front, as well as shortening the waistline. Write yourself a note and stuff it in the pattern envelope. :)
Aw I think this is now one of my favorite items that you have made so far! It's really cute and I hope it protects you from the cold haha I have been living glued to a hot water bottle everyday when working at home 🙃
I made these from denim for a trip to an area that is usually cold in the winter, and then proceeded to over heat on the plane and in any indoor space. Somehow they are so much warmer than trousers!
I looove this!! And in general the fit is very good on you, it is a little long in the body (as you mentioned) , but not so much to be a huge issue (I mean, if it really bothers you, you could recut the button placket and bring the bodice into the waistband, but you can definitely get away with it as it is) The gaping on the front neckline is probably because there is a little bit of stretch and it's been stretched out just a bit as you've sewn (this can happen, even with stay stiching, super annoying). My only recommendation is to go slower, and use a walking foot if you have one. If not have the facing face down on the machine teeth so the front out side gets less stretched by the machine. Also, have you considered doing a burn test to find out fibre contents?
The gaping at the front could possibly be because the shoulders on the garment are too wide? If you move the straps further in towards the centre it should fix it ❤️
I live in a very large house, and it can in the winter, get expensive to heat, I keep the house at about 67- 68F or about 23c. Warm layers are a must for me too. I started to make that outfit. It fit great in the hips and thighs but did not fit at all around my bust and rib cage. it is sitting until I figure out how to fix it.
I love this pattern. I made a video of it on my channel as well! The only difficulty I have is when I need to use the bathroom quickly as a teacher. They don’t come off quickly for that lol. 😂
This may be a bit of a controversial question, let's just make it "future speak". I would love to see you do some baby and kids' clothes, Lucy. Those vintage girls and boys clothes were so pretty. And this is a very nice project as well! Love it!
I love this pattern. My only concern is the buttons. It will take a lot of time to get out of them. I don't mind taking the time to button when dressing but can't imagine needing to undo all those just to go to the bathroom. I wonder how hard it would be to fake the buttons over a zipper.
It’s always when you think it’ll be a quick go, it’ll end up almost twice if not three times the time. I say with my current one week dress most of it’s way to being 2 weeks. Lol
Love them, love them, love them! The shaping is what makes these overalls so pretty. How on earth do you get the pattern to match? Have a great weekend, xoxo's Sandie🤗
Love overalls 🤗 But eh I would have done it differently 🤔 The pocket on the bodice on the center middle. It looks strange on the boob area. Tha pants waist have the pocket inside rather then have just one out there. Maybe even make them cargo like to use both in winter and summer. The button placement was good. But it's all preference 🤷♀️
In that case you need to live in one of the Asian or African Arabic countries where we have mild winters comparing to those that you have in Europe. By the way I don't like warm weather and I'm truly happy that I live in one of the countries that has very cold winters like Europe
Very adorable but that pocket over the dart ruins the seamless look. It’s awful. Just remove that pocket and it will perfect. It also looks crooked. I would not have done that at all. The pants pocket is perfect and looks like it should be there. 👍
I will be the blob of sweater on your behalf Lucy. I feel the cold very much also. Can’t afford heating again this year so layers it is. It didn’t kill me last year so let’s just plough on. People talk about choosing between heat or eat. I’m pretty sure I would have died if I hadn’t eaten last winter. But I did survive with (almost) no heating. Not enjoyable but if you are careful and relatively healthy it can be done. Think warm thoughts every one.🫤
...how cold/warm is your winter😮? Here no heating in a house would also mean no water as the water pipes would freeze😅 I lived one winter with 17'C (63'F) temperature in my room bc I felt guilty about the bills my mom was paying. Even then the heating was still on.... Would not do it again. Otherwise wearing layers kept me warm, but the tip of my nose felt frozen for the whole winter😂 I find 25'C (77'F) too hot for general indoors, though it's nice for the bathroom. 20-23'C is a comfortable inside temp for me😊
@@TT-_- winter isn't too bad fortunately or I wouldn't be able to do it. We rarely stay below freezing for many days and sometimes it's not even below at night . My house is normally between 8 and 14C, which is why I don't die. But I can't say that showers and the like are much fun. I'm always so sad when the summer ends. I like it to be in the 20's to be comfortable. But there is no way to afford that. Should have bought a small modern flat, then I'd be warm. But I have a supersensitivity to noise so bought a detached house. Will just have to freeze. 17C sounds lovely. Cool, but perfectly fine with a few blankets. I'm lucky that my colleagues (we all work from home) are all in the same leaky boat so in zoom calls no one laughs if you are wearing a hat and coat.

It looks so super cute! Must be a pain going to the toilet - I'd need a zip I think rather than those buttons!
It came out so cute! Extra room for sweaters underneath 😆

I’ve seen this pattern many times and would love to try and make it. So glad you did so now I can actually see it. Too cute!!!
That pinafore looks amazing!!
I would love to see the bodice part on a pinafore dress in future!
Oh they are beautiful! Now I want to get the pattern and try it out myself!
I love that you made a wrist pin cushion out of that poly plaid you liked so much. 😁
Love your sewing videos. I've learned so much just from watching you! Hope you make it through winter as cozy as possible!
The Simplicity circa 1940s pattern looks really cute on you!

They're really suit you! Very cute ☺️
Very cute! Very flattering! I especially love the back. You did a great job!
As you were laying out the pattern pieces I was saying: Lucy, don't forget to pattern match! Thanks for addressing my concern ☺️
Thank you 💕 for your patience to love of people danki Dimpho Johanna Molefe

So cute! You did a great job. Excellent fabric choice. I've been looking at this pattern for a while- just might be time to make it.
Go for it! I've gotten so much use out of this pattern already 😄
Love you Lucy I can't wait for Vlogmas 2022 in your new house❤️🎄

I have this pattern in my stash! I gotta make it now in plaid 😍

They are so cute!!
Very smart concept and look.
They're so cute!
They turned out perfectly!
They are so cute! Now I want to make a pair!
Adorable!! Oh my goodness I need to make a pair for myself! Great job!!
Pinafores have skirts on the bottom. Overalls have pants on the bottom.
What a great fit!
Ohhh, this looks amazing on you. Loved this

Try to make the Oodie copy? A big oversized sherpa like snuggly warm hoodie thing.
Love this! Could you possibly share where you got the fabric from? ☺️

Yeah, I thought the same thing, the idea of breast pockets on pinafores is very cute, but the placement for that one is just strange imo
