Glad you enjoyed this. Koi Geba is the song that sold me on the group. 1st heard Otona Blue back at the start of Covid. Thought wow this women are unique, choreography is actually interesting and the song catchy. Then I saw this with the jazz, rock and pop mix, about a serious topic and it just made since. They have other mostly older songs in a similar vein like Dokubana (1st single), Saisyu Jinrui and Seishun Wo Kirisaku Hado.

‘Koi Geba’ is a song about a forbidden love between a male teacher and a girl student, sung from the perspective of the girl student. The girl student is in love with the teacher in the lyrics. As for the song title, ‘Geba’ is an old left-wing Japanese term of German origin, used in Japan to mean ‘rebellion’, 'alarm’, and so on. So you can presume that the song title means something like ‘love rebellion’. The song tone is never bright, and quite dark. And why such an old left-wing term was used for the song title? Their second album with this song is ‘Wakage ga itaru’ (若気ガイタル), which is a pun on ‘youthful indiscretion’ (若気の至り). In the 1970s, the student left-wing movement in Japan rebelled against the society and politics of the time, burning with ideals, but the reality was poor and it eventually failed. In the same way, I guess that love also tried to rebel against society, but I am sure it did not bear fruit. And I guess in that song, the girl student might have looked back on the love. I guess it was unfortunate but might be good to her. Because the album title is ‘youthful indiscretion’..
A.J. Hartley-sensei has given an excellent commentary abot that song on his own YT channel. According to it, the lyrics are about a schoolgirl's aspirations, and the music video is about what will actually happen if that love comes true. The two must be kept separate, he said. I love that song. Thak you from Japan!
