I saw them live in Chicago a few weeks ago. They played the MtH -AG "Shimi" MV before the actual show started, was super loud. The venue was packed, the fans were hyped, and they put on a great show. As a middle-aged metal/ska head, it was strange seeing a show with no instruments being played. The first MV for me was their song "Pineapple Kryptonite", AG had worked with ex Beastie Boys producer Money Mark.
You posted this 10 days ago and it just appeared, fucking RUclips algorithm. OK as a metalhead myself this band has many other metal fans. Their infectious attitude, fun, lyrical content, choreography (they do it all the, selves), varied musical styles and they SLAY live all lead to them being the only “pop” group I like in any way. I highly suggest the Koi Geba mv. Two years ago on their 1st US tour in an interview Suzuka (glasses) said it was the best starting point for new fans.
This song is about the difficulties and alienation of modern life. Part of AG!'s ethos is to stand out and express yourself which goes against Japanese tradition. Here they cast themselves as superheros to break people out of their boring lives and use imagery from Japanese monster movies. For their first 5 years AG! were not that popular in Japan, probably because they did not conform to the usual J-pop girl group image, and they were dropped by their record label in 2019. They only really found an audience after being picked up by 88Rising and expanding their sights internationally. Now they are one of only a few Japanese acts with a legitimate worldwide fan base and they can fill 10,000 seat capacity venues in Japan.
Actually, it is a real skyline, they built a model city on top of a mid-sized building, so the buildings in the background and birds and sky are real. Also, the drums are traditional taiko drums, no electronica other than effects. The "Scary as F*ck" video has a bit of a click bait title, but is a good watch, though it will spoil many of their songs. For one of their darker (as in subject matter) songs I would recommend "Koi Geba", or for a fun jazz rock song about freindship "Mayoeba Toutoshi". Though my favorite song is "Miyao" live at Thumva. It has a beat that goes way too hard for a pop song.

Building the set on the building roof is a very old Hollywood trick perfected by Harold Lloyd 1920s movies.
Is Fire!!
SUZUKAはAdoと仲良しです。声も似ている😅
: Yes, Ado is a big AG fan and bragged that she was into AG before the rest of Japan.
