great reaction! these are there usual/original uniforms. the ones w kanji are relatively new; they wore them for the first time in their Coachella performance from last year. i think the sound of AG is one that can take some time to get accustomed to, as they're v experimental w their genres. a great introduction video is their performance of their song Otonablue at the program "The Frist Take". AG also have a comedic element to them, so some things may seem over the top or exaggerated, and, given the cultural differences in humor (Japanese humor can be wacky over here), it doesn't always resonate w everyone. they always have such a good energy, tho, and exude a contagious joy when performing, which is what rly got me to like them ;) they also combine serious topics w comedy, and often analyze japanese culture, whether by celebrating the good or by criticizing the bad. i recommend the choreography video (there's no mv) for their song GiriGiri, or the mv for "the night before the exam"
This is possibly one of my most favorite AG songs for it has the perfect balance of swag and grace which AG is known for, which is apparent from their overall performance from the singing to the choreography. I also love how the song references the Beastie Boys when it comes to the megaphone vocals, as the girls are BBoys fans. In fact, they covered Beastie Boys track Intergalactic which you might want to check out. For mire AG goodness, do check out Tokyo Calling and Otonablue (First Take version). Make sure to also check out their older jazzier tracks like Rakuen Nite Watashi Jigoku, especially the video where they perform it live complete with stage props. I recommend checking out the music videos first because they usually have English subtitles and AG! lyrics are actually worth checking out. They dropped the "no Leaders" part of their name when they went international because they were afraid people would think the Japanese "no" is the English word "no", which would completely change the meaning of their name. They only use their full name in Japan.
AG! have dropped the "leaders" for their international releases and tours. I agree that the vocal effects on the recorded version of this song are way over done. It's far better live and so I suggest you listen/react to this live performance for comparison "新しい学校のリーダーズ - 青春を切り裂く波動(SUMMER SONIC 2024 TOKYO)"
I'd recommended Suki Lie next, official video. Far more polished, and about catching a partner cheating. A far cry from the usual kawai love songs that dominate J-pop.
You really should have gone with the official video 😂 they worked with Money Mark of Beastie Boys fame and this track has that 80s distorted funk/punk vibe and is purposely lo-fi Most of their tracks are highly polished in production but this track focuses on Sazukas punk spirit and Rins love of rap
Agreed. Compressed audio/bullhorn is a bit grating. The song is kinda fun. If you want a shredding bass and guitar battle then I absolutely recommend BAND-MAID Hate? (Official Live video). I know you love deep bass Shira so please react. They will make your day...sorry...your week! Also, if you want a terrific instrumental try their live MV "Onset". It's a banger! Band-Maid is truly eternal happiness!💜🎀
I am not at all a know-it-all superfan, but I believe that for their English name they just ommit the のリーダーズ part. Western version Atarashii Gakko!, Japanese version 新しい学校のリーダーズ. It's probably a good decission, it's something actually something a J-Pop act like Zutomayo does as well (Zutomayo for the west while the original Japanese name is: ずっと真夜中でいいのに。). As far as the production goes, it is done intentional for this track, I am not the biggest fan either to be fair but it doesn't bother me too much. I don't think they have anything similar in other tracks. I probably would really dislike it if I have to listen to a full album with these type of overdriven vocals though.

I totally love AG's comedic vibe. I've always seen them as a Japanese musical Monty Python. 🤣

Just to clarify for the uninitiated, this isn't a Money Mark song, it's a Japanese producer. But certainly the vibe from 90s MM might be there.

The standard one to react to is the "First Take" version of "Otonablue". I like it, it is very cute.

I cannot point to any right now, but I know they have had lo-fi sound in other tracks. But, its not common.
